Still family-run as of 2025, the restaurant is dripping with history, from its Old World decor and Moorish tiled floors, to the photos and honors hanging on its walls. On our recent visit, we were welcomed by Alberto Cándido, the 92-year-old son of the restaurant's renowned founder, who proudly showed us the medal he was given by King Juan Carlos I, which passed on the title of Mesonero Mayor of Castile after his father's death. We were seated at a window table in the beautiful Álvaro de Luna salon to enjoy delicious entrees of Grilled Sea Bass, Battered Hake in Salsa Verde, Pork Snout with Mushrooms and, of course, the famous Cochinillo Asado. Paired with a delicious house red wine and followed by slices of rich chocolate cake and apple pie, the meal was outstanding, as was the service. It was a privilege to eat in this amazing restaurant and to meet the scion of the family dynasty that maintains the culinary legacy of Mesón de Cándido to this day. A highly recommended experience if you're ever in Segovia -- and well worth the quick train ride if you're visiting Madrid.

We had an amazing three course meal, were given and entire bottle of local white wine, and bottled water for €68, a bargain for the quality of the food and the location on the Plaza Mayor with a view of the entire square. I had the beans-judieos to start. They were hearty and perfect for a cold day. They came with a pigs ear, which I didn't try and some sausage that was flavorful and went well with the beans. My husband had a nice mixed salad that had tuna, the usual veggies, and olives-like a Nicoise-tasty. For my main course I had the suckling piglet. I had wanted to try this local delicacy without having to order an entire portion and this was the perfect compromise. Extremely tender, with a crunchy skin and potatoes on the side. I enjoyed it, and I'm so glad to have tried THE DISH of Segovia. My husband had the hake and was very pleased with it. For dessert I had the best rice pudding in the world. It was creamy, with a delicate orange flavor from orange peel, and a wonderful combination of cinnamon forward spices. It came with a scoop of ice cream which was good. I think they could lose the ice cream and serve more pudding, but I guess the ice cream would be nice on a hot day. My husband had the regional, marzipan heavy dessert and loved it. The wine was refreshing and the bottled water came in a beautiful blue bottle. On the whole 10/10. Great food at a reasonable price (given the quality). Primo location and good service.

The roast suckling pig was excellent, very juicy and succulent. The dessert was outrageous; a marzipan and cream filled cake, typically not found outside Segovia. Although 34 euros might seem expensive for lunch, if you're splitting it, it's a great deal, it comes with bottled water, a glass of wine, and coffee. BTW, the portion of mushroom risotto was huge and rich; a salad may be a better choice given the richness of the dessert. The service was surprisingly good, they are very organized to handle large lunchtime crowds. On the main square in Segovia, what more can you ask for. Highly recommended!

Located next to a great lookout point over the city not too far from the Aquaduct, best to hit it at the beginning or end of your journey through the town. The Tour Guide was raving about the House/Area Specialty -Suckling Pig (Cochinillo Asado). Two levels for seating and 1st level was sold out so we were seated on the lower level. What stood out was all of the options on the menu. So many interesting choices. The Soup (Sopa a La Castellana) was highly recommended and looked good from others who ordered it but given the heavy of the main course we decided against it. We ordered the Suckling Pig and Grilled Turbot. The Suckling Pig wasn't as big of an entree once you get the meat off the bones. It was tasty and would describe it as an elevated Pulled Pork. That said, for me, it was one to try and not sure I would order again. The Turbot was excellent and was enjoyed even if it wasn't a filet. Ponche Segoviano for dessert was also recommended-looked good but no room. Service was okay. Again, they were quite busy so some delays. Overall, looks like the spot in town for Suckling pig/Roast Lamb and a few interesting creations.
