Nothing special to write home about. The jerk nachos were good, but served with shredded cheese that was melted vs. melty cheese - a little odd to me. I ordered a burrito bowl with no rice and added steak. Steak was good but massive pieces instead of diced meat to get equal bites of everything. The beans were also incredibly soupy, so it made the lettuce soggy immediately. My boyfriend ate their flying burrito and it was good, but he said it looked smaller than what he remembers it being (it has been sometime since the last time he was there, so this could also just be a misunderstanding on his part). Great Mexican spot in Mid City. Small but so quaint. We went around 6 on a Saturday so it wasn't crowded when we arrived but started getting more busy as the time went on. All of the staff were friendly. Our server was extremely kind and helpful. We stared with the chips and queso. We loved the he queso; a bit on the spicier side but not too hot that you didn't want to keep eating. The chips were fresh, light and crunchy. We had the regular Juan's burrito with chicken. Thankfully we split it because it is huge! It was filled with all fresh ingredients- grilled chicken, white rice, cheese and black beans. So delicious. The one thing I would have liked was a small cup of salsa on the side. I also had a Happy Hour special- a double House margarita for the price of a single. The strongest margarita I've ever had!!! I swung by here for Taco Tuesday where their Street Tacos are $2 each! A good price always makes the food that much yummier! But even without the awesome deal the tacos were delicious! I especially love the shrimp taco! The chips is another of my favorite things at Juan's Flying Burrito! Super light and crispy and I could eat them all day long! Super dangerous, but worth it. Awesome spot if you are looking for super casual Mexican Food. There was no wait Saturday morning around noon, it was busy but tables were available. The chips and queso are pretty good, about what is expected for the price point. I really loved my Black Cherry Margarita, it was delightfully different, a little on the sweeter side but not overly. The food is amazing. I had the taco salad and depending on my level of hunger I can share this dish. It comes with chips and salsa and is flavorful with every bite. The drink on Mondays are 2-1 margaritas. So if I order a margaritas I get a double shot for the price of one. The drink was very pretty and not too sweet. Definitely relaxed me after a long hot Monday. The ambience was fairly quiet around 7pm. Parking is always a challenge but walking does not hurt. The bartender was attentive and very nice. We will call this Juan's Flying Burrito the second coming! Had been here years ago and remembered the food being amazing so decided to check if it is still living up to the hype I gave it back then. Being on magazine st there is a lot of tough competition so you have to be on point to survive. Now they have been here since 1997 so there is longevity. I had the skirt steak nachos and my better half had the steak quesadillas. The nachos were piled high with steak ,cheese ,and salsa, the steak quesadillas were stuffed to perfection. I am happy to announce that they are indeed still putting out amazing food and happy to continue to promote their talents. Their artistic atmosphere and delicious food is a winning combo. Came here for weekday late lunch. Happy hour is a large sized margarita for a small size. We got the nachos supreme or equivalent of that which were on point. So much fillings, almost more than actual chips which never happens and was amazing! Also got the Juan's flying burrito which was huge and can definitely serve as 2 meals! Their street tacos are steep for $4 each and weren't that special Only off thing was that the menus we had actual mold on it.... From the quesadillas to the nachos and chips to the fajitas to the burritos to the sopapillas to the tres Leche, to the Margaritassssssssss. I love it here. I ALSO love that there are several other locations in the city, just in case you're not in the area. But this is my favorite one. I love the staff. Not the greatest parking situation but it's Canal Street, what do you expect. Yes, Juans does not disappoint. The vast menu is simply amazing. I love that there is food for the meat lovers, and the vegans alike. I've had taco salads. I've had quesadilla with lettuce and tomato, my most recent favorite is the mango, spinach, jerk shrimp salad, that might not be the order of the words, but you get what I'm saying there's mango, there's jerk shrimp, there's spinach oh, and did I mention that there's a bean quesadilla amazing. I will only ever give this place 5 stars. It is my go to Cali Tex Mex spot. BUT at a recent visit, when I got my Gutter Punk, the burrito roller rolled it the wrong way. As in, I had a couple mouths full of rice, sour cream, jalapeños then beans and meat instead of a blend if it had been rolled in the correct direction. I have visited here twice during the week on my lunch hour within the past few months. There's very limited parking onsite. There are some free parking spots on surrounding streets. I ordered the chicken enchiladas meal on one visit and a beef enchiladas meal on the second visit. Both visits I ordered the churros dessert. The food tasted pretty good. During both visits, the waiter provided good service overall. Unfortunately the first time I visited, the waiter mistakenly forgot to give me my change back and I didn't realize it until I got back to my destination. I didn't bother to go back because it wasn't a large amount of money. During my second visit, I ordered the churros dessert to go and I realized once I got to my destination that I was not given the chocolate that goes with the dessert. I was very disappointed but I didn't have time to go back to the restaurant. I would return to the restaurant, I just know I need to make sure I remember to get my change and that I check any food items that I order to go to make sure everything is good. read more

I hadn't been to Juan's location since high school, and it's exactly how I remember it: great staff, cozy interior, yummy food, and clearly everyone's favorite because it's always packed, lol. I also forgot how much of a doozy the parking lot is to navigate. It's quite compact and also shares space with what I think is an apartment complex and a business, so your spot options are further limited. Probably a better idea to parking on the street and walk. I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for food wise, but our lovely server, Morgan, recommended the flying enchiladas and I was not disappointed. They had a combo of shrimp, chicken, and steak in them and were covered in a delicious red sauce and cheese. It also came with rice and beans. No complaints here. We also got the queso with chorizo and guacamole. The guac was just the right amount of spicy and the chorizo wasn't too greasy or fatty. I also got a side of the pineapple salsa and it was delicious. Slightly spicy, sweet, and kind of refreshing for a hot day. It was super chunky though, so if you're looking for a more blended, smooth salsa this may not be your jam. The drinks were also quite good--got a double Cadillac margarita. Perfectly boozy. We went early on a Friday to beat the crowd and get parking. We got a table a few minutes after arriving and it was so hot inside. I got a cocktail off their tales of the cocktail menu and it was nice and spicy. For an appetizer we got chips and queso which were nice. For my meal I got the steak tacos and a side of black beans. As someone who lives in New Orleans and works in the hospitality industry myself, I have a high level of appreciation for our city's restaurants and the people who keep them running. I also understand that no one is expecting fine dining service at a casual neighborhood spot--but we are expecting basic, respectful, and competent service. Unfortunately, that was not the experience I received at the bar during my last visit. And to be frank, it's part of a pattern I've seen more than once at this location. Let me be clear: this email isn't about nitpicking--it's about calling attention to consistent, avoidable service issues that reflect poorly on your restaurant. I sat at the bar with a friend. It wasn't busy. Yet, the bartender was on their personal phone and didn't acknowledge us when we sat down. No greeting. No menus. No bar napkins. No "I'll be right with you." Nothing. When we were finally addressed, it was rushed and impersonal: "Do y'all want something to drink?"--with not even a menu in sight. When we asked for water and a menu, it felt like pulling teeth. The bartender made no effort to walk us through the menu or even give us a moment to look it over. It's as if we were expected to memorize our order before we walked in the door. Eventually, our food came (which was good--credit to the kitchen), but not once were we checked on after the meal was delivered. The bartender disappeared entirely. A second bartender showed up but ignored us. Then a third appeared and also failed to acknowledge us. I had to flag them down just to ask for the check and boxes. That's when I was informed that the original bartender had left the building. No one communicated that to us. No one followed up. No one took responsibility. Let me be clear: this is not acceptable. I still tipped 20% because I believe in supporting service workers, but the experience was frustrating and frankly disrespectful. This isn't about bad service on a bad day. This is about a clear lack of training and oversight. If you value your guests--and your staff--then it's time to revisit some of the most basic hospitality protocols: Greet guests promptly. Present menus and water without delay. Ask for initial drink/appetizer orders. Then take entrée orders. Check in during the meal. Offer dessert if applicable. Present the check and provide to-go boxes if requested. Say thank you, take payment, and invite the guest back. These are fundamentals. Not luxuries. Juan's Flying Burrito has great food and a strong local following--but the service at this location has become an issue. I genuinely hope you'll take this feedback seriously and retrain your front-of-house staff accordingly. read more

I love the menu options here. I've searched far and wide for something like the flying burrito in other cities and either it doesn't exist or it costs too much. Steak, shrimp and chicken in a burrito is genius! All of the menu items are reasonably priced. That said, the food at my last visit was underwhelming. The queso had the watery consistency of soup, the guac had too much citrus, and the salsa was bland. My burrito was okay, but the flying enchiladas were hard and crunchy. I still think it's a good place and I've always gone to this location, but I'll try a different location next time per recommendation from my friends. read more

Great casual atmosphere, excellent customer service and weight staff and you can't go wrong with the namesake, Juan's Flying Burrito (which is huge, with steak, shrimp and chicken) or Juan's Flying Enchiladas (equally as huge with steak, chicken and shrimp, covered with three different sauces) which is what I got this time...it was a specialty of the house and came highly recommended and is one of their best sellers. Didn't get a pic of the food, but this place is not for me! Idk if it's just this location or what. I got one of the burritos and added chicken to it. The chicken inside was the only thing good which is why I'm giving it two stars. Rice inside the burrito was cold and hard. The tortilla was soggy from the sauce on top. This thing looked a mess once I started digging it open. Chips were cold and stale. Hibiscus soda was good but took a while to actually make it to the table. They were busy so maybe they just weren't prepared for how busy they were going to be that day. I would not recommend visiting this location. We did get a kick out of one of the staff members running around like the building was on fire so at least that was entertaining. read more
