When I read that people say this is the best Mexican food they have ever had.. I have stop and question, where they have been eating Mexican food and is this the only place they have ever eaten and don't have a measurement of good Mexican food, because its more than tacos, burritos and enchiladas. I have eaten here and each time no bueno. Being hispanic, I eat a lot of Mexican food, all over this country, because it is not only my culture, but my comfort food and my go to when in a new town. Rice, dry no flavor. Beans no flavor. I have had the tacos with mole sauce- they do not serve mole here, I have had much mole in my life, this is not it. Tacos are not full, they are limited in the actual protein, as my family calls them, "sad tacos" "Tacos Tristes" Salsa is okay, I could eat a ton of salsa and chips but not here. Guacamole- yes, I have also had it here and it defies me how they use the molcajete from table to table and just scoop it into a flat dish to serve.. what?! and then move on to the next table- like, what if you can't eat onions or hate the taste of cilantro or allergic to chili peppers? My husband refuses to eat here and will drive to Freehold, Jackson even Belmar for Mexican food, but not the 3 blocks to Juanitos. I cannot in good conscious give it more that 2 stars- if you think this is the best, then okay, but you really need to expand your palate and head elsewhere. read more

Four of us just left Juanita's 2 and had a horrible meal. We ordered black soup that was the worst black bean soup that I have ever eaten. It was whole black beans in water with raw onions and a splash of sour cream. On the plate to accompany the fajitas the black beans seemed to have just come out of the can, cold. If I had been with only my husband, and not business friends, I would have sent the soup and the platter back. A very disappointing meal. read more

I haven't been here in a very long time and unfortunately, I see no absolutely no reason to rush back. They still serve a mountain of food but somehow they forgot to serve the entire meal, you know... hot. The Super Nachos were covered in a landslide of ground beef but at room temperature, the cheese and chips were both fused and congealed and had to be excavated from the plate with every utensil at my disposal. I came for lunch not an archeological dig. The Fajitas were sizzling but the tortillas were cadaver stiff having been just plucked from the refrigerator. And let's not even mention the stale chips and watery salsa. I've never loved the place but I've had much better meals here previously. I'll wait awhile and give it another shot for old times sake however, I'll bring cash as there's a new 4% surcharge for credit cards. Two regrettable stars. read more

The second restaurant of theirs. Red Bank is the first and very good. The hiwell location was my favorite. My recent lunch visit, I got my usual steak taco salad..mexican pineapple soda... black beans.. all good but my little soda was 7.00! Had I known...whoa. this is a byob spot bring your own soda. Lol I still like this place. Burritos are good, chimichanga is good, fajitas are good. Black beans are flavorful. Recently, the salsa n free chips is great but it was watered down. It wasnt busy when we got there. Probably only like 4 tables that were filled. The place is very casual. I got shirley temple and mexican tacos with steak. My mom got the #2 which came with taco salad & quesadilla. Mexican tacos costs $17 & the combination platter of taco salad & quesadilla costs $28. Food took too long. I didnt like that they didnt have real authentic tacos like carnitas, al pastor, lengua, and others. They only had choices of ground beef, pork, steak. haven't been here in awhile so stopped in for lunch. I got the chicken burrito which came with rice and beans. The burrito only had chicken inside it which I didn't expect I thought there would be other things as well. Chicken tasted good, rice and beans were okay, the cheese on top of the burrito tasted like american cheese melted. The chips and salsa were good. Juanito's II has some positive attributes and some negative aspects about it. I guess in the end it washes out to a mediocre three star () review (though I was torn between a three star review () and a two star review (). The food is good (so that is a positive attribute), though a bit expensive (well, that makes for a negative aspect). I also did not like that they seem to want to nickel and dime their customers with things like a three dollar plate sharing charge, two dollars for a bowl of chips and salsa after your first bowl. That made me wonder if you came in with say eight people, fo you all have to huddle around one serving or chips and salsa and charged two dollars for an extra one? Honestly, for the prices they are charging, this establishment could easily afford to do away with these blatantly arrogant attempts at getting just a few more dollars out of your pocket. The atmosphere is pretty good (that is a positive), parking is a bit rough (that's not good). Would I return? I don't think so. The food and other positives don't compensate for the negatives like the pricing and the price gouging. read more

My first experience at an "authentic" Mexican restaurant in a long time, and boy does it feel good to have it back in my system. Taquerias and Chipotle, take your backseats please. While the platos típicos feel is nice, there is some things to consider when stopping here. I will list them for you. Pros -The food is pretty good, as are the portion sizes. -Salsa es muy picante (pretty spicy). The chips have a deep corn flavor. -Lots of menu options for all palettes. -Most dishes come with rice and refried beans. -Good mix of where the Tex meets the Mex. Cons -The food can be aggressively salty. You will need lots of water and/or beer to survive your meal. -Entrees can be pricey. But you can get a nice meal at a reasonable price if you want as well. -Crushed ice in the drinks make for unpleasant drinking experience. It forced me to use a straw, and I am not entirely sold on drinking through straws. -Parking is limited, and the parking lot is dangerous. -Slow-ish and lackluster service. So that is a 5-5 tie, even split down the middle. If you can find something to break the tie, awesome. Otherwise, this is where it will have to stay, on the fence, erm, the border. Yeah! We have been coming to here for over 10 years. Previously we went to Red Bank. Our last visit was on Cinco De Mayo with a group 8. The place has a Mexican motif thats pleasing. Very colorful. the assortment of food we orderd was fantastic. On this past Friday I asked Juanto's to cator my Cinco De Mayo party of 56 people. I was very concened since this was new to me using Mexican food. I am always concerned about how food travels. This was also the first time Jaunitos catered for me. I really like Juanito's II. It's definitely much better than El Meson in Freehold! We ordered to go, and they gave us complimentary chips with salsa. The salsa was so good! For appetizer we had the Espinacas con Queso. If you love cheese like me order it! It's Monterey and Jack cheese served on a hot skillet topped with spinach. You fill the tortillas you get with them, and it's cheesy deliciousness! For dinner we ordered off the house specials and had Enchiladas Del Mar and Burrito De Mariscos. Both were really good! They both were generously stuffed with seafood too! We loved the sauces they came in. The burrito came in a lobster cream sauce, and the enchiladas came in a creamy habanero. Both dishes also came with rice and beans. Let's just say we were stuffed in a good way when we finished everything! I recommend Juanito's II in Howell for Mexican food! read more

We love eating at Juanito's in Howell. The Mexican dishes are delicious and the service is super friendly. We always get the ceviche as our appetizer because it is fresh and full of shrimp. The prices are reasonable and the portions are big. read more

Really horrible food. I've been to many Mexican restaurants, including a few in Mexicos This one has to be one of the worst . Ordered the Hot Tamales. Some places decorate it with a corn husk, they didn't. The meat was tasteless boiled shredded chicken. It was topped with a green Tomatillo sauce which tasted more like acidic vomit. We also ordered a Chile Relleno, usually stuffed with a thick white chewy cheese similar to buffalo mozzerella, and deep fried to be crunchy. This one had shredded stringy plasticy sprinkled cheese. The whole this tasted like barf. The yellow egg batter or lack thereof had a sour vomit flavor. But why in the world did they cover it with a bitter Tomato sauce? We all went home with upset stomaches. How does this place stay in business when there are really great restaurants like "El Meson" in Freehold? You leave there happy! read more

Really wanted to like this place but sadly won't be back. Black bean soup was solid and our appetizer was delicious - spinach and melted cheese! It all fell apart when the beef fajitas came not sure what kind of steak they used but it was beyond tough dried out and tasteless. The peppers and onions were totally burnt as well should have sent it back instead just left it behind. Service was excellent sltho had to ask for some cheese for the fajita as well as water refills. The Taco Bell in Howell was voted best Mexican in town and this place is literally right next to it! That should tell you all you need to know about it. Barely Tex Mex they served me enchiladas with what appeared and tasted like American cheese on top with a heap of sour cream on the side. The only thing Mexican is the name. This place is to Mexican food what Dominoes is to pizza...it kind of looks like the food you thought ordered but it's at best some derivative perversion of what you really wanted. I think the place is great looking and spacious inside. My boyfriend loves this place and it was my first time trying it. We got the fresh guacamole, which was ok. It did not have any lime or tomatoes which made it kind of just ok, not memorable. We both got the burrito with steak and rice and refried beans. Each burrito had an option of sauces and I got a cilantro avocado sauce and it was smothered in it. It made my burrito very soggy and hard to eat. The burrito itself had a good flavor, not my favorite but it was still good. My boyfriend enjoyed everything about his burrito and he got chipotle sauce but on the side so his burrito was not soggy at all and stayed well put together. I honestly think the rating system should start at "0". When we ordered takeout from Juanitos the food was cold, tasteless and appeared as if it had just been scooped out of a garbage receptacle. If there was an honorary title presented to restaurants such as Zagats recognition this should be honored with the Raspberry equivalent in culinary, not cinematic terms. This restaurant is hands down the worst establishment I have ever ordered food from. The food was expensive, which only added insult to injury. I tried to contact the owner or manager several times and he made himself quite unavailable. I wouldn't be surprised if he was the rude, gruff voice on the other end of the line. Stay away, far away. Although I don't foresee this business being open long enough for many people to have to heed this warning. read more

went here friday night for dinner and was not disappointed. so upon arrival there is limited parking but the restaurant itself is almost split in two. there is two sides of the restaurant no difference between the sides but there is two sides. they give you free chips and dip when you sit down. the menu itself has many food options. being vegan i only saw the vegetable fajitas and had to tell them to take off the sour cream. they did have a lot of vegetarian options from what i could tell. they were quite pricey though. for vegetable fajitas it was $21 which is kinda a lot but the portion size was pretty big. i even had leftover to bring home. the food came out extremely fast and was amazing. the guacamole was so delicious. definitely recommend trying here if you haven't been. read more

We had dinner with friends the other night and were not disappointed. The place was crowded, as usual, and finding a parking spot was a challenge. there is not enough parking at all and I usually find a spot in the Taco Bell parking lot next door. Even though it was crowded we were seated quickly and our bottles of wine opened (yes, it is BYOB). The menu is quite extensive and even though we did not order it this time, the Guacamole prepared at the table is terrific - highly recommend this item. There really isn't much to say except that this place is awesome. Consistency both in service and quality. The place does so much volume that it would be impossible to not be fresh. I'm not Mexican so I can't speak to authenticity but for what I'm sure most are accustomed to I doubt you will be disappointed. Keep up the good work.
