I came into JTAuto to get my AC repaired because no air was blowing out at all, hot or cold. The diagnosis was that my compressor had burst, and I needed to replace the whole AC system for $1700 due to metal shavings in the condenser and other parts of the engine. I told them I wanted to get a second quote, and they refunded the diagnosis fee because it was such an "easy" diagnosis. A month later, I took my car to my cousin who is a mechanic. He noted that the freon circulation was still ice cold, so it couldn't be a problem with the compressor. He replaced the blower motor in 20 minutes, and the total cost was $170 for the part and service. My AC works perfectly now and blows ice cold. It seems that JTAuto had a completely incorrect diagnosis of my AC issue and wanted to charge me 10x what it actually cost me to repair my AC. read more

Review Title: One Name, Two Very Different Standards of Service I am writing this to express my extreme disappointment with the Fort Lowell location, which stands in stark contrast to the professionalism I experienced at the 22nd St. shop. My experience began at the JT Auto.- East Side (6947 E 22nd St), where the staff (including my son, TL, and B) was welcoming and professional. They checked my VIN and odometer correctly and treated me with respect. Unfortunately, the car was sent to the Fort Lowell location for an alignment, and that is where the service failed entirely. My vehicle was returned with a crooked steering wheel and a severe pull to the right-worse than when I brought it in. Most alarmingly, there were three fresh tears under the car on the right side that were not there before. When I returned to the Fort Lowell shop to address this, the owner, Mr. Wyndell Townsend, was incredibly dismissive. Rather than taking accountability for the damage or the botched alignment, he insulted my intelligence and even tried to blame his own staff at the other location. As a teacher in the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD), I expect a basic level of professional accountability that Mr. Townsend clearly lacks. While the team on 22nd St. understands customer service, the leadership at Fort Lowel! is a liability. I will be advising my fellow educators and the TUSD community to avoid the Fort Lowell location until Mr. Townsend learns to respect his customers and properly train his staff. read more

I have been a customer of JT Auto for about 10 years. I loved them at first but am sorry to say that I won't be going back. I first noticed changes when the business moved from its little location west of Campbell to the larger one it's now in. When it was in the small shop, Wendell was super friendly and would walk me into the bay and show me what was wrong and what needed fixing. I trusted him completely. Now that the shop has moved, Wendell seems rushed whenever I bring my car in, and when I come to pick it up, I get a printout diagnostic of all the things wrong with my vehicle. It seemed like as the shop grew it became more of a money maker for Wendell rather than fulfilling a passion. The last straw for me was a month ago when I got a flat tire driving in a rainstorm at 3 pm on July 3. I called Wendell to let him know I had a flat (I had bought insurance on my tires through him) and was driving straight to the shop to get it fixed. I got the shop's voicemail so left a message. But when I got the shop was all closed up---they left early for the July 4 weekend maybe? Anyhow, I had to drive on the flat over to Discount Tire to buy a new tire. When I spoke to Wendell on Monday July 7 he said there was nothing he could do to reimburse me because he didn't see the tire. I was really upset because it wasn't my fault that the shop closed early on July 3! Anyway, he said he would try to get my request through the underwriter and I sent him the pic of the tire's gash, but basically he just stopped answering my calls. I have visited JT auto 4 times in the last 3 years. Twice for a general tune up and once for a new battery. The 4th was for a stalling issue that I believed that I had but never experienced since the visit. Every visit was fairly priced, convieniently done and 100% resolved without any issue. While auto repair firms often have bad reputations or require that you rent a car for the week they will need to do the tune-up or get the parts required, NONE of this has ever happened at JT Auto. This company may be trying to ruin the bad reputation of dealers and auto repair companies. read more

My car wouldn't start and I called JT Auto and informed them of the issue. They recommended a towing service that got to me in an hour and a half and towed my car to the shop. This was on a Tuesday and I informed them that I would need the car done before Friday. They performed a diagnostic test and found the problem and gave me a quote which all seemed fine. I was quoted $950 and I asked for an itemized breakdown of the cost. When I was given the itemized breakdown it added to about $860 and when I asked about the cost discrepancy they were unable to provide me with an answer. He adjusted the price and said he would only charge $860. I accepted the service and received a call Thursday morning that everything was done and worked. I picked up the car and it has been working well ever since. This job was done in September. All in all, the service was great. Wyndell and his staff were polite and understanding of my situation and told me they would do everything they could to have the car fixed in time, which they did. The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the issue with the price. read more

I made and appointment with my auto dealer who could not service my car for over a week and they would need 2 to 3 days to complete the battery replacement. I feared that the battery would die and I would have to have the car towed to to Buick dealer. I searched online and called JT Auto who said they could look at the car immediately so I drove over. The found that the battery was dying and could replace the $275 (yuk) battery. This was JTs cost which was passed to me. As my oil was in need of a change I asked them to do that also and they said the car would be done in about 4 hours. Well, It was done in less than 2 hours and cost exactly what I expected without any hidden material or labor costs as so often happens in repair shops. Not here! Had CV axles replaced, owner said he would back up his mechanic, Joe's word in regards to test drive and what he heard, all that Joe recommended would have been needed was CV axles replaced. I asked on Yelp messaging, what would he do if there's still all the noise from test drive together? Would he fix the other issues, complimentary, so that I don't have any noises, since that was / is my concern? The interaction of messages on Yelp were deleted in the system (not by me). Test drove afterwards around the block, not over any speed bumps or really bumpy roads, in order to listen for everything. Was told and shown the brake caliper loose (but not told it is not working properly). Called JT Auto, was told over phone they would replace it as a warranty item if it was bought through them, and to go to where it was bought originally. I still hear something below after the second test drive after I returned same day. Same sound(s) as when Joe and I took it for test drive, minus clicking noise when reversing. Not a bad basic auto shop. If you have a newer/nicer car (something with a turbo charger or a boxer engine), don't take it here. They won't service CVTs, but that's the case with a lot of auto shops. Service is really good, includes photos texted to you showing you any issues with your vehicles, then the owner calls and asks if you want to act on any of those, and quickly gives you a quote. My only quip is the owner tries really hard to sell you tires, which is whatever I guess, but he only ever has Coopers and Toyos in stock, don't expect to get Michelin/Goodyear/Continental from him. If your someone with an older vehicle without a CVT, this is probably one of the best shops you can go to for routine maintenance. read more

Great experience with Wyndell and the JT Auto team! My wife and I have been a one vehicle family for five years while living in Pittsburgh. When we moved to Tucson we purchased a second vehicle (2008 Ford Focus) that was just meant to get us around town. It's an older vehicle but with low miles. Unfortunately, it overheated this past weekend and, like anyone would, we began to contemplate whether or not doing the work would be worth it. We had the luxury of using public transportation (in Pgh) and owning a relatively new car (2014 Hyundai Santa Fe with low miles). Something like this hasn't happened to us in quite a long time... Wyndell provided great service! They were able to assess the car quickly and provide a quote for the work. A new water outlet thermostat and thermostat housing unit was going to run us over $800 with tax. We decided to do the work and move forward with this car. The hope is that we'll be able to get a few more years out of it before having to make a change! Finally, I appreciated the fact that Wyndell showed me the bad parts, explained what had likely happened and the work that they did to the car.
