POOR COMMUNICATION, WRONG CAR, AND UNFINISHED WORK. Garner Automotive was recommended to me for some work. I made an appointment by phone in advance and dropped off my car in person for a quote on replacing 2 struts and for an oil leak dye test. I spoke with J. in the front office and I noticed he had the wrong car notes for my vehicle. I pointed this out and then we spoke for 10 minutes about the details of my car and what I brought it in for. I went over ongoing work on the car and told him specifically what has been or is already being done with the vehicle including the battery and valve gasket. I was assured that J. would check in my car and note the account for me, no call in required. Unfortunately, after 3 days when I was finally able to reach someone at the garage over the phone they sent me an email quoting me for another car's maintenance including work I did not request and work I specifically mentioned had already been done on my car. When I called them to correct the issue they were very hesitant to send me a fixed quote and were unable to answer simple questions about my car. The new quote included what I wanted but only had the information I had given when checking in the car with no additional information or a report of an oil leak test. I went in person to get to the bottom of what was happening and at this point they had my car for 1 week. The man at the front desk was incredibly defensive and aggressive about the situation, admitting he had written the wrong notes and that a oil check as I requested had not been performed because of the work that is still being done to the car as of when I brought it in. The state of the car and what I needed was made clear when I dropped it off and it had not been communicated that there was an issue. At this point, a number of things were said that I found worrying: "I would have charged you more had I known you wouldn't do more work with us," "it's an old car no point looking past the first issue," "we do not take pictures of our work at any stage," "we do not do written notes," and I was also questioned on why anyone would use more than one mechanic ever as if people do not move or have different types of vehicles at the very least. As the front desk man had caused some of the communication issues, I understand the defensiveness, but there was clear intimidation in the attitude and then after a long time a second man came in just to silently loom behind him the rest of the time, never contributing to the conversation and also unable to answer any of my simple questions about the vehicle. Very unfriendly and I am very unhappy with this experience so far. To be clear the quote for 2 front strut replacements was about $1450.00 on an older Toyota, and I decided to not do this work with them firstly because of the poor communication and note keeping this time. Secondly, they charge more than 2x market price for parts. The oil leak dye check has still not been performed but after much hem-hawing I was assured that I can bring my car in this next two weeks to do it, but was also told that it may take them several weeks to complete an oil leak test, which was not completed the first week they had the car. This is no regular timeframe. Who can wait over three weeks for just an oil leak test? Cost: $140. They said they "price similarly our neighbor, Borst Automotive, perhaps coming out a few dollars cheaper." Due to the unprofessionalism and poor state of vehicle on pick up inspection no longer comfortable doing business with Garner. read more

I had an appointment with Garner this Monday but when I called to confirm the week before my appointment Ryan told me "why don't you just take it somewhere else." So I did, and left a review stating as much. Then Ryan, the front desk manager, messaged me from the owner's email telling me he didn't like my review and wouldn't help me as a result. My review was neither defamatory or exaggerated, just that they told me to go somewhere else after I made an appointment. I had already called him and told him I was disheartened by his poor service and canceled my appointment so the email was unnecessary and completely petty, lending credibility to the notion that his initial refute was just as petulant. What a shame the owner would let his reputation suffer over something so stupid. read more

Had an engine problem that we had to replace the engine for and while it was out had the transmission rebuilt Steve & Ryan were great to work with they kept me up to date the whole time and while it took a long time due to supply chain issue's they always kept us in the loop ! What a pleasant surprise and discovery! I was referred ove rby our neighbor who shared that they take their vehicle here for maintenance and oil changes and never faced a issue when I mentioned I was looking for somewhere close by. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, especially Robert who I spoke with over the phone a few times. Prices are very reasonable and they work fast! Never had such a great and quick oil change in my life! They did ask if I would like to change my AC filter for a charge, but didn't fuss or pressure when I declined. And after paying my bill at the end , I will definitely be going back for more work from now on. 3 Location, a bit hidden ( on Golf Links and Pantano on the South East corner behind Shell gas station ) 5 Service, top notch excellent 5 Cleanliness 5 Price, was very very fair and love that they give you a break down that is easy to understand and read, love knowing what my cost is actually added up to! 5 All around , excellence!! Garner Automotive is the BEST place to take your vehicle for repair on Tucson's Eastside! The shop is conveniently located directly behind the Speedway gas station on Golf Links & Pantano. Garage bays are organized and well kept. Services are always competatively priced, done honest and you can rest assured the work was done correctly the first time. The mechanics are friendly, well spoken and extremely knowledgable. I have taken anything from my 2003 Tahoe down to my 2002 Chevy Cavalier and their work was top notch! I recommend this location highly! This shop welcomes Walk Ins but if you walk in, be prepared to wait as their services are in high demand. Appointments preferred. I took my van in to have them replace the A/C. I immediately had to take it back because Freon leaked out. To make a long story short, I just took it back for the 5th time in less than a year because the Freon was leaking out. After paying over $800 to have them replace the A/C unit they came back and told me it would be another $500. to fix it. They claimed it was another part. Every time prior to this they said the new compressor was bad or bad O-rings in compressor. I told them I would just pick the van up and that I wouldn't give them another dime for something I already paid for. I also took my daughter's car in for repair. They charged her about $270. and said they replaced a crankshaft module that had just been replaced. My daughter had called to ask them to save the part so she could take it back to store for refund, since they said it was bad. When she picked the car up and asked for the part she was told they already threw it away. On another occasion I brought my granddaughter's Mustang in. Her driver's-side window wouldn't roll up. Mike said it was the motor and he could replace it for $300 + dollars. I told him I'd just do it myself. Turns out it was a fluke. When I picked the car up the window worked fine and hasn't malfunctioned, since. I like Jack and the guys but won't be bringing anything there, again. Too many things just aren't passing the "smell-test". I received a telephone call from Jack, the owner a couple of months ago. He had been out for an illness and said he was unaware of my situation and offered to make it right. He asked me to bring the van back in and they would see if they could fix it. He also offered to do an oil change for free. I told him that wasn't necessary. It does indicate to me that Jack is a decent guy and wants to make it right. I haven't taken my van back in, yet, but he did offer. I'll try to get in there in the near future. A/C doesn't seem to be a high priority when it's cold outside. ;-) read more

Best experience ever, informed me my struts were fine after another shop tried to con me. These are honest people you can trust to not lie to you. Open and forthcoming regarding price,parts, and they respect your time. Steven inspected my vehicle and my battery tested poorly, which I've had problems with before, now I have a new batter and he made a wire/cable and didn't nickel and dime me or b.s. me. I like that. Hands down the most honest auto shop I have ever encountered. These guys do a great job for a fair price. We have done business with Garner Automotive for about 15 years. We tend to buy a vehicle and then keep it for 10 years or so. With the help of Garner we are able to put 100K plus miles on all our vehicles and they still run great! I took my truck in to have brakes replaced because they were squealing and it seemed about time to have them replaced. They called me and told me after looking at the brakes that they were good and had 1/3 of the pad left and the noise was from excessive brake dust. They cleaned the brakes and no more squealing. I was surprised they were honest and did not just change the brakes and not say anything. read more

Garner Automotive was my go to mechanic shop . When Jack and Mike were there it was a shop you could depend on to keep your car safe and running well , with out charging to much . They treated everyone like family and got return buisness for over 25 years from me . I went there this week and needed my van looked at because it was jerking when it changed gears . Things , $1086.00 worth of things were fixed but I left with my van still jerking . When my son called they told him they dont fix transmissions , what ? Why not tell me that before they fixed everything else they could find wrong ? I found out that Jack died and no longer part of this buisness and I can tell his way of doing buisness has died as well . Thank you for the work you did do ,but I will no longer be a customer of that shop. read more
