Had the a/c go out in my 10+ year old Jeep. Searched for a reputable independent mechanic on Yelp and this one checked all of the boxes. Next appointment was a week away. I booked it. Loved that they have pre-8am appointments. I arrived on time and was greeted by awesome Jenny. After checking me in they promptly took my vehicle. 10 min later I learned it was just low on refrigerant (actually near zero). That didn't surprise me because it was less cool recently but still coldish. And then one day it was instantly lukewarm. First time in its entire life so it really could have been anything that failed. The a/c check ran $60 and the 1.25 lbs of coolant brought the total, with tax, to just over $120. I was done in 30 minutes. They tossed a dye in with the refrigerant just in case there's an active leak. Fingers crossed, all is good! Tip: if you GPS the location you won't see the street number or their sign because it's "tucked" about 50 long yards off the street, midway deep amongst all of the locker/garage containers that populate this large lot. I love this mechanic shop, they open at 0630 and I'm an early bird so I love it. After searching online for a reputable mechanic because we're all afraid of being ripped off I found excellent reviews of Tucks on all platforms. I've taken two cars to them and they found the problem, gave a reasonable price and usually have it done the same day. Or my other car that was under warranty with the dealer they diagnosed the problem and when I mentioned it's probably covered under the warranty they said it probably was and I picked up my car free of charge. Took my daughter's car to a local Jack Furrier's shop with a check engine light. They charged ~$250 and couldn't fix it, referred us to an "engine specialist." Turned out it was just a spark plug and an ignition coil. Tim knew we were desperate and could have thrown any number at us. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person--actually, scratch that, I'm the least mechanically inclined human being you know. Needless to say, an auto shop isn't anywhere near my comfort zone, so when the dreaded "check engine" light lit up on the dashboard of our Toyota, I felt my stomach sink a little: It was time to find a mechanic. I'm always a bit intimidated and worried I'll get taken for a ride (pun intended) when I take my car in, but after reading some online reviews, I gave Tuck's a call. The owner himself answered the phone and made me feel immediately at ease. He said he couldn't look at our car that day, but we could leave it for later. I took my 2014 Kia soul after my check engine light came on and it was stalling on me.. I'm not to knowledgeable about cars or mechanics, or anything of that nature. After researching online and reading the great reviews I decided to go with Tucks auto service. After working on my car for half of his Friday he was able to determine that the previous fuel pump that I just had put in there last week was no good. He got my fuel pump replaced and my car back on the road. He never charged me a diagnostic fee and his labor charge was very reasonable. Tuck's is one of the very few mechanics in Tucson that does great work for a great price and will never screw you over. I've been a loyal customer for over 3 years now and will continue to bring my car here for as long as I live in Tucson. Not only are they fair with their prices, but if they are unable to do the work they will never bill you for the time that they spent. They only charge you if they are able to give you back a fully repaired car. Not many mechanics would spend the time to look and assess a vehicle for no charge and give you their honest opinion. I don't know much about cars, so I'm normally weary that I'll be screwed over by a mechanic who will tell me that I need this done to my car and this/that replaced. Every repair that Tuck's has done to my car (which at 16 years old is A LOT of work) they always keep the pieces that they replaced to show me and walk me through how they were broken/not working and why they replaced what they did. Please go to this auto repair service shop. I was referred here by Ryan and also Steven who happens to work at the AutoZone currently. Every word is true about what other people have said concerning the honesty of the shop. I will always take my car there as long as they are open. They change my oil, and they replaced my headlight headlamp while repairing the wiring to the light. I realized after I drove away they even filled my tires with air. I cannot say enough nice things about how they explained the issues going on with my car that were stumping me. read more
