Amazingly good garage. If it is your first time walking in you are not going to see a fancy waiting area with a staff of intake people like some garages. In fact, it kind of gives off the vibes of a 1970's Route 66 garage. Justin is the guy you are going to deal with and he is super honest and knowledgable, and I swear they can figure out and fix anything. I have had my 2006 Silverado in trhe a couple of times as well as my 1997 Subaru Legacy. They quickly diagnosed the issues I was having and fixed them well and quickly. They use good parts and, my favorite thing about them is that they don't try to upsell you on a bunch of stuff. They will let you know if they find other things that need attention and give you a good honest opinion on the urgency of a repair. They are easy to miss since you can't really tell that its a garage from the front. In fact if it weren't for the guys at Chicago Music Store which is attached to the west end of the shop, I wouldn't have thought to go there. They told me that it is a very good auto repair shop, and they were nt wrong. read more

I've dealing with Justin for many years. He's my go to guy! Reasonable prices and quick turnaround.

I was initially let known about this shop from a friend who had luck with them in the past, so I had them do service on a car I bought used. They inspected it before my purchase and did an estimate before I even sealed the deal, they never said anything about the scope or technicality of the fix being beyond their capacity or even hinted that any part of the repair might be a little too technical for them. Even in the initial phase they gave me estimates for time of repair which where extended meaning the whole repair process took almost a month and a half which I was fine with as I had an operational back up, I paid my bill in full at the time of completion and that should have been the end of my experience a solid 4 out of 5 star slightly delayed repair with a large scope... But no nothing these days is ever that easy. not one week after the repair the transmission was bleeding profusely (changing a seal was in the scope of repair), this nearly left me stranded as is and I was respectful and cordial about it just being a mistake. I brought it to them and it was repaired in an acceptable time frame. At this point I was irritated, but mistakes happen right so I made a point of being firm but respectful (3/5 experience). That subsequent repair then only lasted about a month and I had to return, same issue seal not strong enough transmission failing again. I brought it to them, they decided to repair it with an oem seal this time and this repair would go on to last about 7 months and about 6 thousand miles and then suddenly bam engine light, code reads its the transmission again (I had to get an oil change at the time anyway so mechanics at a little shop inform me that it is leaking and that it is the transmission as confirmation as well). So round 3 (impression is pretty much a solid 2/5 at this point tbh), I call the Art's up again about 5 days in advance to describe the car and tell him that the issue I have had before is back and I just need the car for work so I ask if he could check it out, he says Friday so I agree and think nothing of it. Call again day of let him know I have requested time off for the later 3 hours of my shift and cleared out time for flexibility (I also work week ends so that implies I am clear to have no car for the week end too, so lost income to try to make it work with his schedule), he confirms and I give him an eta for when I expect to be around sounds like its no issue. I leave early drive directly to the shop only to find that he has closed over an hour and a half early after our conversation stating when I would be there. Everything is buttoned up and the shop is closed. Confused I walked over to the shops neighbor Chicago Music Store, and ask if he had left early, to which they reply that he had an emergency and left early that day, I asked if he was intending to come back and they shrugged, I contemplated leaving the key with them, but at this point I was pretty rightfully mad, its one thing to blow off someone verbally and be firm even if you want to hold yourself to a standard of customer service, but he took time from work cutting precious hours I need to make ends meet to make a repair to my vehicle to keep my life running, He didn't even have the decency to call and make sure I could keep my hours at work... This review is generously worded expletives and other offensive language are entirely warranted for the level of experience I received and the complete lack of respect for peoples time... I AM LIVID... I will never attempt to try to have service done by this shop again, I believe people deserve second chances, but this I round 3 of repairs try 4 total and I am just done. Do not come here for quick service, do not come here for critical service, this business serves no niche that another shop can't fill outside of disrespecting the time and livelihood of its customers... -2/5 stars read more

When I first moved to Tucson I was terrified of taking my car to a mechanic shop because you know how it can be for women....you go in for a oil change and they have a list of problems that are huge seal and they can replace it right then and there. I asked my grandfather where he recommended and he sent me this place. It is the place I consistently go to and recommend to everyone. They have never once over charged me or had crazy recommendations that are mind blowing. I was in Phoenix for work and had no choice but to get my brakes changed else where and that place in Phoenix was telling me my control arms needed to be replaced. I did not do it and took it here and told them what I was told and they were honest with me and said it was definitely not something I needed to do immediately if at all for a few years. I brought in my 2001 BMW 330i because I was hearing rattles and clunks from the undercarriage/suspension that I hadn't heard before. Justin took it for a spin and soon afterward discovered that an aftermarket part was loose from a stripped thread. He continued to check underneath and told me the rear shock mounts were worn and should be replaced eventually. We got into a discussion about other aftermarket accessories of which he was familiar with, and BMWs as well. He knows cars! I spoke with him later about shocks for my BMW, and he was extremely helpful, suggesting alternate sources and brands. I will be bringing in both of my vehicles to Art's as long as I'm in Tucson. read more

What in the hills have eyes did I just walk in to? I made an appointment for an oil change and diagnostic for 9 am. When I arrive, it's just a parking lot that leaves you questioning where the actual mechanics office is. Once you find it, it's filthy, outdated and run by guys that have no idea what's going on. This is literally a junk yard with old abandoned/torn apart junk and cars all over the property. I dropped my car off and I was told it would take about an hour. So I called after two hours, and was told a few minutes longer. I called back after three hours, was told a little longer. Called again after four hours and was told a little longer again. At this point I didn't want anything from them and told them to cancel everything. And now I'm actually glad they never worked on my car, because based on what I saw and experienced there, I would definitely question the diagnostic or if they actually even changed any oil. These guys are really nice and helpful. They weren't able to install my Prius battery because of a warranty issue on my behalf, but were more than happy to run the diagnostic for free and tell me where to go from there. After that, I knew I'd be back in the future. I only had to wait a couple days for an appointment and today they fixed my water pump for an amazing price. It has been quite a while since I ran into such a nice place to repair my truck. I accidently ripped off the left side of the bumper valance pulling away from a parking stop. A rebar was sticking up and tore my valance from the bolts which hold it, when I backed up. After checking nearby wrecking yards, Blue sent me to CYC in Tucson where I spent $39 for the valance and tomorrow I will have it installed at the Pit Stop. Blue easily saved me $200 and will probably save me more money when he installs the valance. I strongly appreciate and recommend this business to anyone who desires to meet really nice people and a great people oriented business. read more

Driving from California to Texas I made an appointment since I was having an issue with my interior lights on my 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Stopped in waited a few minutes, but then the mechanic acknowledged me but once he helped me found that he was very knowledgeable and gracious enough to let me know it was just a simple override switch that was triggered on my Jeep. I didn't get his name but he nice enough to not charge me and sent me off my way telling me to have a safe trip to Texas! Now that is what you call an honest mechanic! Where's the 6th Star? Everything I read about the Pit Stop was true. I'm traveling for the winter, and needed some minor work done. Had to book the appointment a few days out, a good sign, but they had me out in just over an hour. Checked a minor electrical issue...blown fuse, changed the oil and got my A/C working for just over $50! Super friendly staff....very clean facility. I needed to get some work done on my car, so I looked around for a reputable shop. The reviews for this place were almost too good to be true, so I gave them a shot. They definitely lived up to their reputation. They're kind of busy, so try to plan ahead if it isn't an emergency. They've been able to get me in within a couple days of when I call them. Each time I've taken my car there, they've started work on the day they promised and have contacted me before noon with a diagnosis and estimate. They finished the work the same day and I got my car back before 5 PM. One-day service isn't something they guarantee, but that has been my experience for minor repairs. The best part is the way they treat their customers. They're honest, helpful, respectful, and communicative. They've never tried to sell me on things my car didn't actually need. They'll explain your problem and suggested repair in as much detail as you would like without talking down to you. They save the old parts so you can see yourself what went wrong and why it needed to be replaced. You can even take your old parts home with you if you want. I found out about Art's Pit Stop through a coworker's recommendation and I'm so glad to have found a great mechanic! I have been in on several occasions and I've only had positive experiences. They've looked at my car's check engine light a couple times at no cost when the dealer wanted to charge $110! I also feel like they've been super honest with me. There are a few things that need to be done to my car, but they said I was ok waiting on them (when the dealer made it sound like an emergency to get fixed). We were looking for a honest mechanic and after reading the reviews we brought her car here. They diagnosed the problem and fixed it immediately. They didn't try to upsale on things that don't need to be fixed. After a few days, she had the same prob but was just overlooked. They did not hesitate to fix it and didn't charge us. This place is amazing and wonderful. I had my truck at another shop for 8 days and the dealer for 4 days, but no one could find the trouble. I took it to Art's upon suggestion from a friend, and WOW, what a difference that made. Chip thought he found the problem in a day (he did, actually), but wanted to keep it overnight to check some more things just to be sure that it was the problem. He wanted to avoid unnecessary expenses by maybe replacing the wrong thing (it was a difficult problem, after-all). It turned out to be the problem. We replaced a part and the truck runs fine. This place is not your usual auto shop. These folks know how to work on vehicles -- not just how to read the codes from the computer (which is what I kept hearing from the other shops -- "The computer isn't throwing a code, so we can't find the problem," was a common response). I came in with my car on a Friday afternoon after having driven from Temecula that day. My car had been acting up and eventually died in the road. I managed to get it to the auto shop and the mechanic had a look at it. He explained that there were a number of things wrong with it, but the main issue was with one of the sensors. He said they wouldn't be able to do too much because they closed soon and they weren't open over the weekend. I was a little bummed, but understanding. They agreed to do what they could and fix the main problem. They called me in under an hour and told me it was all fixed. The price was fairly reasonable and my car ran fine after that! I spoke and dealt with Justin. He was really nice and honest. I just moved here from Michigan and my car didn't pass emissions, I brought it here to see what the minimum work would be just to get it to pass and unfortunately due to rust, I'd have to have the catalytic converter and pipe behind it replaced costing about $400 total which isn't actually worth it bc of all the other rust damage and the leaking of oil and trans fluid and my ac also doesn't work. I thank Justin for his honest opinion! He also let me know that for $50 they check out any used car your thinking of buying and give you a thorough breakdown of any issues or possible complications! I had a 120k service interval done back in September of 2012, but I'm writing a review because I've had poor to mediocre experience with auto repair shops before and after. Art's has the look and feel of an auto shop. They make no effort to turn it into a salon or hide what they actually do all day. I got the distinct feeling that the business end of making money was a low priority, compared to every other place I've taken my car. I don't think there is much overhead or hierarchy here, just mechanics who know cars. They were honest and straight forward, almost to a fault. They definitely had no desire to sell me any service or fix anything on my old car, 99 RAV4, that didn't really need to be done. That takes both honesty and the knowledge and experience to distinguish what is really necessary now from what can wait for a while or forever. They must stay busy from return customers and word of mouth, so they don't need to advertise or sell you anything you don't need. I'll definitely be back here next time. read more

I had a great experience with Justin at Art's Pit Stop today. With an upcoming road trip and an unresolved service light, I called and Justin told me to just stop in. He scanned my system with 2 different scanners, answered all my concerns, and made sure he covered all the bases. He felt that it was as simple as the service light hadn't been reset properly. The tech's at the oil change business had sworn up and down that they had reset it and there was a bigger problem. It seems to be fixed now, and the cherry on top was that there was no charge!
