I've tried pretty much all the meal subscription plans out there and I still order regularly from a couple. I really like Dinner A'Fare's concept. I often don't want to cook a meal on the day the box arrives. Their meals are efficiently packaged so you can just put them in the freezer when the box gets here. I just need to thaw it overnight in the fridge to cook it the next day. I also like that the meals are mainly just the main entree, or they might sometimes include a rice or potato side. I prefer to cook my own sides because we like some veggies and not others, and we prefer to personalize the sides for our taste. Each box includes wine and side ideas to go with each meal in case you're stumped for ideas. So they plan the most time intensive part of the meal and I get to personalize it with whatever sides I want. You can also order separate sides from their growing menu, and desserts too. I like how easy the meals are to prepare. The instructions are pretty basic and it's mainly a matter of throwing everything together. No measuring, chopping or mixing. I've only ordered 15 meals so far and really liked all of them. My husband, who is a pickier eater, has been really happy with the meals. He likes the portion sizes because he's a lover of leftovers and there's always enough left for his lunch the next day. Dinner A'fare's meal entrees are not designed for vegans or vegetarians. And many of their options are not allergen friendly. I doubt they'll change that as this concept has worked for them for years.

Farmers, bakers, and artisans of all types are hunched over their goods setting them up for the Atlanta Food swap that has already begun. My young daughter darts off into the crowd with the nimble feet of a seasoned running back. Clumsily I attempt to fallow her while scouting out the best spot to set up my chipotle lime hummus. A quick scan reveals our tardiness has cost us a spot on the central table. We set up our offerings for the swap on the service bar, gomashio and hummus, and start walking around to see what looks good for a trade. After one lap sampling vegan kimchi, sour dough bread, and hibiscus kombucha I am ready to see what Wrecking pub has to offer. The bar has a list of aged stouts I settle on a maple coffee that did not disappoint. After a few sips of the rich creamy stout the call to begin trading is made... We walk around to the items that intrigue us the most and ask their creator if they would like to trade. We ended up getting a beautiful large bag of Kale, a liter of kombucha, 3 different sour dough starters, hibiscus bitterer, and some bread. We are extremely satisfied with our swaps. To participate be sure to check out the website https://www.thehomesteadatl.com/swap as dates seem to move around a little. This is a laidback event that welcomes what ever your artistic, culinary, or farming passion has driven you to create. Even without any goods to swap just come down and check it out while you sip on some great cocktails and or beers from wrecking pub.

Everyone brings in individually packaged food items and you can trade one for one with other people. For example, if you bring three jars of jam to trade, you will walk away with three items you've traded with other people. It's really neat to see what people bring. I've seen people bring homemade cheese, home brewed beer, homemade peanut butter, vegetables and herbs they grow in their gardens, breads they've baked, and eggs from their farms. You don't have to be a chef or an expert in the kitchen to attend. There are always people who are novice cooks but are interested in learning more about food. It's a great way to meet people with similar interests, and also a really good reminder that so many of the foods we eat on a day to day basis can be made at home. As of December 2014, the swap is being run by The Homestead. Check their site to find out about future swaps!
