Long time customer, first time complainer…read more Tried to go to dinner with my husband on Monday night 1-19-26. We walk in, were seated and I thought it seemed cold. I looked around and noticed that everyone in the restaurant was wearing a coat. We waited for 5 minutes, our waiter came by and brought menus and water, and I asked him if the heat was broken. And he told me yes the heat is broken. I don't know what the temperature was inside, but the carryout business was very busy and there were about 8 or 10 tables with people seated. Again, every single person was wearing a coat. I asked if the heat was going to be fixed right away, and he said no no maybe tomorrow. We left. When I go to Jess Cafe, I'm not looking for fine dining, or white tablecloths. I want dinner. Relatively quickly, inexpensively, and consistent. What I don't want is to freeze my ass off while I'm dining. We figured we'd come back the next night. Tuesday 1-20-26, I called to ask if the heat had been fixed. I was told no not really. So we stayed home for dinner. That's okay. Wednesday 1-21-26, had a meeting to go to, so my husband went out for pizza with a couple of friends. Today, Thursday 1-22-26. Long, long day at work, and it wasn't even time for lunch! My coworkers wanted to order Chinese food for lunch but before I committed I thought I would check with Jess Cafe to see if they had heat, because if they did my husband and I would go there for dinner. So I called. A nice guy answered the phone and I asked if they had heat. And he told me that it wasn't too bad, about 50° to 55°, but most customers were wearing coats and hats inside. So I ordered Chinese lunch with my friends at work and decided to write this review. The food at Jess Cafe is okay. It's not great, it's a little inconsistent, and some things are just not great at all. They also don't offer a lot of the standards that many Cantonese restaurants offer. Their potstickers are weird, they don't have shrimp toast, and they don't have the stuffed crab claws. We really like those. And they're Thai, and Korean food some of its passable but some of it is just gross. And what they charge for a small dish of kimchi you could buy a giant jar for the same price at Costco. It's nonetheless it's pretty good. As I said usually consistent, but here's my big complaint. And this is a message to the owner. A tall, good looking, skinny guy who lately has been running around in an orange down coat. Mr Jess Cafe - I don't care how you spend your money. It's your money. You earn it, you get to spend it however you want. But - if you're going to drive around in a big honking BMW SUV and perk it right in front of your restaurant fix the fucking heat so that your employees and patrons aren't freezing their asses off. You're in the hospitality business offer some hospitality. And park the fucking BMW in back because it's really kind of shitty to perk it right in front for your employees and customers to see whenever you want is freezing their gonads off. That's all I got thanks

Greetings Foodzies, today we travelled to 5349 w Belmont Ave home of Wok Dong a Colombian Chinese…read morefusion restaurant. This restaurant opened June 7 of this year, everything inside is fresh and clean, including the white tables and the black chairs. They offer booth seating, table seating and they even have window seating. The walls are adorned tastefully in Chinese decor. The music is Hispanic, and the food is delicious. Our server Annie was fantastic, she was knowledgeable, friendly and very nice. She helped explain the cuisine which is the brainchild of the owner who is half Chinese half Colombian and his wife who is Colombian. We began our culinary adventure with beef Lumpia which is a philippine eggroll, it was crunchy well filled, and was accompanied by two sauces; one was a garlic aïoli and the other a pineapple sauce. The garlic aïoli added a creamy texture to the beef filling, and the pineapple obviously added a sweet flavor, both together made for a different experience. We then went on to try the barbecue pork. We had a little bit of a hiccup with that, the pork was overdone and chewy; when we brought this to Annie's attention, she promptly had it remade and the pork this time was very delicious. For out third appetizer we tried was their wings. These wings were basically double fried, it had a light well seasoned breading on it, they were deep-fried, the wings then went into a wok and were tossed with different oils and peppers which added to the texture and the sweet-and-spicy flavors married perfectly together. For our entrées we had the chow mein combination; the chow mein noodles were cooked to a perfect al dente and the combination of the green peppers with the beef, shrimp, chicken and barbecue pork in a tasty beef broth made for a well balanced dish. We then chose the combination fried rice which also included beef, shrimp, chicken, and barbecue pork in a very tasty, well seasoned rice. Lastly, we had the Fish Filet Szechuam; this a tilapia cut into lightly battered strips cooked in a wok with onions and Thai peppers which made for very tasty mildly spicy bites. We had a very enjoyable dinner; at the time that we went there we were the only patrons inside the restaurant, which made it better because we were able to talk to Annie and obtain a lot of information. Another tidbit is that all of their sauces, including the red spice sauce is all homemade. I highly recommend this restaurant, I give it 5 stars. I suggest that you try it for yourself and let me know what you think. Ciao ciao for now. Do I recommend this business???? YES!!!…read more Living in Portage Park, we have come here a few times and they have never disappointed. I've had the ceviche, the Lomo saltado, seco de carne, papa relleno, and the Papas a la Diabla with the steak. There is not one item that I have gotten from here that I have not enjoyed. Do yourself a favor and try their drinks too. Chicha Morada is a Peruvian maize drink, and really different, good, and refreshing. My favorite though is the Maracuya. You know it's real passion fruit juice when you see the seeds. I'm almost always able to find street parking on Cicero when we have come here. The servers are also very nice each time that I've been here. The restaurant itself says they are open until 9p, but be warned that their kitchen closes at 8p, so don't come in later than that. The dining room is nice for a dinner with friends or a more intimate date night, and the paintings on the wall are beautiful renditions of Peruvian culture. One of my favorite restaurants in Portage Park.
