Stopped in to Taqueria El Kachaton based on other online reviews. It's a neighborhood restaurant that offers a variety of Mexican food. They told us they only have one menu in English, so be prepared. We ordered a carne asada taco dinner and 3 carne asada tacos with the handmade tortillas. The meat was very tasty and I especially liked the grilled onions on the carne asada taco dinner.

Stopped in for lunch with some colleagues. The place is small and not much decor to speak of. They do have a small area along the sidewalk for seating but we chose to sit inside. I ordered the steak tacos that originally only came with onions and cilantro, but I also added lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. The tacos were good and one unique thing on them was the grilled onions. I cant ever recall having grilled onions on a taco. Nevertheless it added great flavor and I enjoyed it. If you want a simple delicious Mexican meal, this place will do the trick. Don't expect much as far as atmosphere or ambiance during the lunch hour. Thanks for a solid meal.

How long have I search for the perfect mom and pops mexican joint? Ever since I left LA, I've been trying to find you EL KACHETON! Pros Chips - Warm and crispy, with their home made salsa? match made in heaven. Salsa - Choose between green and red, regardless of what you choose, it's got the right amount of heat and taste. I think they sprinkled "crack" on them because it's so addicting. Burritos - probably around 2lbs, I'm pretty big dude, but i can't even finish their burrito, their carne asada is marinated and cook to perfection, with perfect combination of fresh lettuce, tomato and sour cream? It's ORGASMIC. Tacos - carne asada taco for $1.25? come on, where can you get a taco with that price? portions are huge, i get full with just 4 tacos. Again, the red salsa is the key. it brings heat and compliments the meat, cilantro and onions perfectly. Also, every table has a roll of paper towels. Good thing because i was sweating after i downed half ketchup bottle of red salsa. and big thing of pickled jalapenos and carrots on every table? come on! I LOVE YOU! Cons - Not really bad if you ask me but for some people these might be a turn-off It's pretty small restaurant, so big group is not recomended. tiny bathroom (unisex) but it was very clean. decor is non existent. might have few flies flying around but it's mom/pop joint. so "shut up, sit down, enjoy your whooping portions of food and get out"

Come to this restaurant occasionally when in the area. They have very good tacos with hand made tortillas (upon request) . Their chorizo con papa tacos are the best, one of my favs! I have also tried their rajas con queso gorditas, yummy . Small inside and when the weather is nice they have a mini outdoor area. Staff is always welcoming and friendly. Definitely will come back again !

My favorite Mexican restaurant in the NW side of Chicago. It's a small dive and takes cash only. The food is excellent! My family cleans up their plates here. My favorite is the enchiladas de Mole with chicken. Only five tables inside by the service is quick and the food is fresh. And the customers are mostly Mexican so you know it's authentic.

Had the Gordita -chicarron prensado and alambre taco , lots of flavor . Both green and red salsa are good.

Definitely recommend everyone to come to El Kacheton. The food is amazing!

I come every weekend to El Kacheton because I love the tacos de chorizo, they're amazing here. I tried the Cecina for the first time and it's delicious! Definitely recommend everyone to come here.

Never knew about this place until my boyfriend introduced me to it. It's a small family run and owned restaurant with authentic flavors. The owner and his wife the friendliest people ever. It's cash only and serves traditional Mexican dishes. I still have lots of plates to go. This past time I we decided to dine in and eat on their patio to enjoy the weather. They brought us chips and salsa to start, which were complimentary. I got a huarache and agua de horchata. The huarache , has an oblong football shaped masa base, topped with record beans carne asada, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, and sour cream. I love avocado so I added it. It was definitely bigger than what I've had at other places. It was delicious! The bf got sopes which looked delicious as well. The hot sauce was on point, both the red and green were good. The green is just right, the red is a little spicy. This place is definitely legit and quality food! I will be back to try their birria.

We started off with chips and salsa, and the salsa was a bit too spicy for me, but everyone else enjoyed it. Most of the reviews recommended the enchiladas and we ordered a variety of them. The Enchiladas Poblanos stuffed with chicken and cheese. The poblano sauce was rich and smoky. We also had the Enchiladas Morita. They were filled with shrimp and cheese. It was so flavorful and the morita chile added so much flavor. Each dish was served with a side jicama salad. Their special was a shrimp pasta with lobster. It came with full lobster tail. The sauce was creamy and flavorful. It is also BYOB, which is a nice option. Service was excellent, friendly offered recommendations. This is probably one of my favorite Mexican restaurants and highly recommend.

We arrived around 7:30 on a Friday night and the place was packed. We only had to wait 10-15 minutes, which passed quickly with the live Mariachi music. The food came out pretty quickly considering how busy it was. We got: - Margaritas -- piña mezcal, passion fruit and pepino. They were good but a little small for the price. - Pozole Pipian -- It has a verde base that's very light. Something that makes it unique is chicharrones on top. My daughter prefers pork over the chicken. - Carnitas Huarache -- good flavors but probably my least favorite of the meal. - Asada Torta -- this was my favorite dish of the night. The bread was really light and the meat wasn't tough at all. For dessert we got the churritos and Mexican bread pudding. Both were good but nothing special. All in all a great meal.

I arrived at the restaurant on time (4:30) and checked in with the hostess, who said I could only be seated when the entire group of three arrived. This seemed weird given the restaurant was pretty empty at this time, and ordinarily I'd order a drink while waiting at the table. Regardless, I went to Starbucks instead because I knew the other two were a few minutes behind. When I got back to the restaurant, my friend said the hostess told him we absolutely had to leave within 1.5 hours because we were late... which seemed odd because he may have checked in 15 minutes after our reservation, to an empty restaurant, that already refused to seat me on time. Regardless, the food was delicious. I had the Pollo in ChiChilo-- the mole was delicious, and I loved the chicken and sweet potato. I ordered the mole on the side, which seemed like a nice balance. Since the hostess wouldn't previously seat me, I had a lovely iced matcha latte with oat milk and half a pump of vanilla from Starbucks, which was a nice pairing. The waiter did ask if I wanted a shot of something with it, which seemed odd. Ambiance was cute, probably due for a renovation but seemed appropriate for most dining out occasions- dates, families, a day out in town. Note: the restaurant charges an automatic 20% gratuity which may explain the service. Keep this in mind to avoid tipping more than you intend. Overall, I would definitely come back, and the food and wait staff made up for the abrasive welcome.
