tltr: you're risking an unnecessary headache and faulty work complaints if you choose Joe of JS + S construction. Joe is unprofessional and dishonest to say the least. Please review pictures I posted of his work for reference. He has still not fixed his faulty work.
After a water intrusion issue, Joe was hired by my HOA to install studs, put up a new drywall, and restore my bedroom wall to its original condition. At first, Joe seemed cordial and competent in construction work during friendly small talk. I was equally polite and didn't feel the need to hover around to consistently check on his work. Unfortunately, trusting Joe to do the job well was a big mistake on my part.
Please let the photos of his work speak for themselves, but here's a summary of everything Joe did wrong.
1. He used the wrong paint after I specifically gave him details of the right paint to use.
2. He did horrible job painting with areas not painted at all.
3. He brought and installed the wrong baseboard and argued that "it's close enough"
4. He stained my brand new window with paint
5. He didn't apply texture to the walls so that they would match the rest of the room. First, he lied and told me that the textured walls were just many layers of paint. During a meeting between myself, HOA, and our manager, he lied and said that some owners prefer a smooth texture, which I didn't, and then again said that the texture around the room was built up from many coats of paint
6. He didn't tuck in my carpet, so the right corner of my room's carpet is loose
7. He did a sloppy job at all the corner and the new drywall that he installed has unleveled bumps
8. He left residue all over my window and around the baseboard of my bedroom.
9. He left paint stains on my carpet
On July 6, 2019, when Joe told me that he had "finished his job," I began to address all of my concerns around the room. He refused to listen or speak to me and required that I speak to the HOA president if I had any complaints. I had to arrange a group meeting between myself, Joe, HOA president, and our management company to resolve the issue of Joe's faulty work.
On July 18, during our meeting, Joe admitted to his sloppy and faulty work and said himself that "he's not satisfied" how things look. We agreed that I would draft an email pertaining to our meeting and our agreement. After several attempts to reach him, Joe replied on August 6 (2 weeks later), ignoring our requests to confirm our agreement. His excuse: "I am extremely busy" and then he claimed that no one had reached out to him to schedule him for work. This is another disgusting lie, and I have evidence of text messages and emails to prove him wrong.
Currently, Joe is away for a few weeks, which he failed to communicate to us. Sadly, it is the law that the HOA needs to give Joe a chance to rectify his faulty work. He continues to ignore emails. His selfish and unprofessional attitude is unlike I have ever witnessed from a contractor.
I feel it is my responsibility to share my experience with those considering Joe as their contractor. Save yourselves a headache. read more
