Walked in 10 mins after opening and the place was packed with customers! The lady working the counter greeted us and showed us where to sit. I think we got the last table. Our waitress came Over right away and took our orders and brought us our drinks. She was very friendly and helped us with the specials for the day. Catfish and hamburger steak! Portions were huge and so tasty. The corn fritters were out of this world! The menu was large and the prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes! About 3 months ago i went to JR's for a take out order. Not paying attention later my wife asked me why i paid $40+ for an order that added to about $20+ give or take a dollar. She added it up,and called JR's. The person never made an attempt to offer a refund of the difference. I myself let it go,and about 3 weeks later i stopped in and placed a take out order,which h as best described was a cluster...I cancelled and the 2 employees being clueless offered to give a refund,which i accepted since i had had enough of JR's and the staff. The refund was in cash,since i guess they had no idea how to do an online refund,Hence now JR's was into my pocket for what is about$20.49......so for that price i will never give them a chance to drill me again. Family members still go,but not this one...They could have chosen to do the right thing,but they did not. read more

Service was prompt and friendly. Atmosphere is typical of local eateries, open and calm. Lighting is florescent, white ceiling tiles. Don't expect a five star evening dining atmosphere. Food was fantastic. Well cooked and hot. The flavor was fantastic, juicy and sweet. I had the fried pork chops with mac and cheese and sweet potato casserole. My wife had chicken salad with sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were particularly excellent. I noticed there was no online menu listed on Yelp or Facebook, so I have attached menu pictures. There are daily specials that change and are listed on a whiteboard as you enter the restaurant. The health rating was 100, for a restaurant that has been open for a while that is a really good score. The floor was very clean, surfaces shinning, you can tell the owner cares about cleanliness. Hands-down one of my favorite places to eat lunch. I have also eating there for dinner. Kelly that runs the front counter is absolutely the sweetest woman. Goes out of her way to do anything I need. Angie the owner what can I say she's incredible and so is her food. Brittany and nikki her daughters, work there as well. Absolutely love being served by them. These are the sweetest most polite ladies I have ever run across going to a restaurant to eat. I can say nothing negative about this establishment or the people that work there. So if you haven't tried JR's please do you will not be disappointed. Prices are very reasonable. Where else can you go to lunch and get a meat, three vegetables, and a drink for under nine dollars. Excellent food and super-helpful staff. I ordered in advance 19 meals to be picked up at 8:45 pm for our post-match meal for our wrestling after a match at Smiths Station High School. I called at 8 pm to confirm the order and pickup time. The lady answered the phone and said "I'm sorry, we're closed". I didn't know that the High School was central time and the restaurant, 1.1 miles down the road, was Eastern. I explained my mistake, and she was so sweet, and said, "No problem at all, we'll wait". Wow! That's all I can say. I was told to try this place and I was leery at first because we've all heard the story of, "try this place if you're in town, it's a Gem". I was blown away. This is a quintessential "Joint" and the food was phenomenal! My wife got the 10oz steak and I had the chicken fried steak and my daughter got the steak tips and my mom got the hamburger steak. We enjoyed trying each other's meals as much as we enjoyed our own! The food again was superb and the service was fantastic. The place was packed even when we got there at 7:00pm and I know why. I have been to some high end steakhouses and am very particular about the way my steak is done. I was a little concerned about this place when we found it. Not in the best part of town and doesn't look like much from the outside. Dont be fooled by that. I had one of the best steaks of my life here. Perfectly seasoned and perfectly grilled. Most of the people at our table ordered the daily special, which was a 10 oz rib eye with 2 (delicious!) sides and nicely toasted, buttery bread for $16 (!). All of us were perfectly happy with the various levels of doneness and the flavor of the meat. No one even touched a bottle of A-1 or Heinz 57. Perfect dinner out. And perfectly pleasant service. We may never get back to this neck of the woods, but I might look for a reason, just to eat here. read more

We ordered the Wisconsin Cheese curds, which were the best thing about this place and since they came from a bag that's not saying much. My fiancé and I split the 12 oz T-Bone, which was a very cheap quality steak and had almost no seasoning. We asked for it medium rare and it was served rare. The sweet potato fry side was good, but again definitely from a bag. The Mac and cheese side was Kraft boxed Mac and cheese at best, but really seemed more like easy mac. Well I'll be the first to review this restaurant. It's a little country restaurant that serves good country food. It's rural setting makes it a little off the beaten path. Every time I've been there or even driven past there, the parking lot has been full. I went there last night with my husband and another couple. We were greeted warmly by the hostess who directed us to sit anywhere we liked. Again, this is a characteristic of the rural atmosphere. The server came quickly and took drink orders and just as quickly returned with our beverages. Good job! Since I've dined here before I know that portions are large and asked if I could order from the children's menu. She said I could. I ordered the grilled pork chop and baked potato as the side I'm allowed with the child's meal. My husband and the other gentleman ordered hamburger steak with salad and fries as the sides. My female friend ordered grilled chicken. I have to take off points for the salads. I tasted my husband's and it was shredded, bagged iceberg lettuce. It was quite large and would have been fine except for the bagged lettuce. I like the fact that the lettuce was shredded. My pork chop was SO tasty. I think it was seasoned with a lemon pepper and grilled to perfection. As all their pork chops are it was large. The baked potato was good, hot, and freshly prepared. No complaints from any of the others about the food. I noticed that the health grade ported was 99. I had considered changing out of jeans to go to dinner, but didn't and I felt perfectly comfortable. Diners included people on their way home from professional jobs, laborers, and bikers. I actually saw more people I know than I usually do when I go out to eat in Phenix City or Columbus. The people are friendly but that is about all that is good about this place. they do give large portions but out of a bag, just warm & bring it to you. WHAT EVER you do DON'T order chicken wings, the pigeon's in my yard have bigger wings than you get here & WAY over charge for such tiny wings, not to mention way OVER COOKED, no meat just bones for $9.00 & you only get 6, so if your hungry DON'T go here, because they will take your money & you will still be hungry.
