I'm not a local and have no previous experience with Joy Ride but they saved my bacon midway through a Pacific Coast bike tour. Giro shoes were falling apart and they're kind of a weird size width wise. No one at home carries the wide sizes but they happened to have them on the shelf. Nice folks, zero bike snobbery. They were dialing in a women's wheelchair and all of the three guys who helped me were cool. Looked like they had a good BMX selection, some cross bikes on sale at attractive prices. Lots of fenders. They're good. Not as good as Deschutes River Cyclery, but good. Over the years, I often took my battered 10 speed in for service and repair. They always seemed happy to see me and my old touring bicycle. This month, I took my girlfriend's wheelchair in and they fixed it right up. I'm sad to see so many high priced bikes and stunt bikes in there. It made me feel out of my element. It's sad to see bicycling become so complicated and expensive. read more

Went here based on Yelp reviews. Our bikes were dismantled when we moved (so they could fit in the moving truck!). We brought them here to make sure that they were put back together properly. Service tech quickly reviewed all the bikes, gave us his recommendation to make sure that we get the most out of the bikes by putting them back together properly so there would be no future issues. The family has always frequented Joy Rides since moving to Lacey, WA and we have nothing but good experiences there. The prices, compared to others, seem to be about the same or if not better than other bike shops in the area. The move to a larger shop has increased their business, thus I have to keep my rating a four star. Though I was used to prompt and immediate service from their old location, their new store has brought on new and loyal customers that make their service, regardless the increased staff, a little slow...I have to give them credit. So they must be doing something right, right? My only problem, I tried to find a replacement part for my son's bike at 6:30 PM and they were already closed for the day. Knowledgeable and helpful staff only goes as far as hours one is open and we are not all bankers...some of us have jobs that take us past 5 or 6 pm. read more

This place is amazing! I went in looking for a mountain bike that I could do just about any kind of riding on. They were able to find the bike that best suited me and were able to also make the needed adjustments. They have a great layaway program and were able to work with me so I could get the bike I wanted without breaking my wallet. I was referred there to get a bike fitting of my new bike. I wish I would have known of this place before I bought mine. I made an appointment for Derick to fit me and all went great. The shop and showroom are friendly and they can't wait to help you. He took me back, took measurements and answered every question I asked. They have a great.....no huge selection of mountain bikes, gravel , cross and road. I hardly ever give a 5 star...but they did it. I will have to say this though.....they need to charge more for the fitting....you dont get that kind of service normally for that price.) read more

I used to love this place. I even bought a bike here. However recently I took my mountain bike in to get a tune up. They charged me 150 just to tighten a screw and I ended up having to take the bike to another shop to repair. Nice people but wouldn't recommend the bike mechanics read more

They essentially almost ruined an annual planned bike tour we do every year. I had Joy Ride look over my two bikes before going on a week long bike tour with about 100 other riders from around the country. This is the most important week of the year for us where we meet up with cyclists and friends from all over the US and Canada. We had a great time but this was certainly a distraction. When I got the bikes back the right shift lever controlling my rear derailer would not hold any gear as if the rachet was broken. My front derailleurs on both bikes are falling off the large chain wheel on my triple chain rings on both bikes when shifting. I spent the entire week have to "hold" the shift lever in place for gears on all hills and riding. PIA! Additionaly, I asked them to adjust my disk brakes. That was also done very poorly. I tested the brakes on a short ride after picking up the bikes and the left front brake was so noisy I had to adjust it which was not a big deal but very annoying. $150 wasted. Really shoddy work! I know who did the work but I will spare the name here. They have lots of good reviews so hopefully I'm a one-off for their bad work. I waited over week after coming back from vacation before writing this because I was so mad at these guys I wanted to be sure my review was objective. Sad there mechanics did such poor work. Seem like a new crew and there very close to my house. read more

As long as I live in the area this place will be my go-to bike shop. I've been met with friendliness, knowledge, help, and ideas from the employees of this shop. I recently purchased a bike from them and it was such a non-sales conversation about the bikes I tried. I ended up with exactly what I was looking for in a commuter with zero surprises. They've helped with small adjustments on my previous bike, free of charge. All the employees have their own character and they are all chill. In the past going to REI it was a soulless, up-sell experience. Almost every time. The folks at Joy Ride want those that come in to find joy with their experience. Great place! I've been a bike commuter for a long time, and thats involved a lot of trips to a lot of different bike shops in the Olympia area. By far this is the best experience I've had from anywhere else. Originally I was in the market for a decently replaced shop that could fix my very worn commuter. After multiple failed attempts at prior shops of just discerning my current bike for a new bike well over the $1,000 price mark. I was concerned I wouldn't have much luck with saving my ole' girl. I traveled to Joy ride with hopes of some fix, so I came I saw, I conquered. After about 10 minutes of cruising the store I was quickly swept to the repair part of the shop had a estimate written up and it was compared to what I had in town from other shops- they were willing to beat the lowest estimate! Though the clearance sales I saw I could not pass up! I Scott SUB 40 caught my eye as well as many other bikes. Only $350 for this 2010 bike! So after a few test-rides I was sold. The staff was great, made buying a new bike experience awesome and the prices you just can not find anywhere else! I even get free check-ups, as well as free tuining for a month after. I live a few miles away in Olympia and wasn't even aware this shop existed. After hitting up and being disappointed in all the local bike shops I searched for other bike shops nearby.
