Adam and Kevin are highly knowledgeable and skilled. They work with you to get a bicycle that fits your body and style of riding, and ensure a safe bike as well. Adam suggested handlebar improvements to make a safer and more comfortable riding position on my 2019 All City Gorilla Monsoon. He also replaced my rear wheel after he showed my the stress cracks that could have caused a dangerous situation on road. I've used DRC for years and will continue to take my bikes there in the future. read more

Adam was amazing. He easily fixed the brakes on my mom's rollator walker after we stripped the brake cord. He was friendly and the fix was quick. When we're in the market for bike repair or a new bike, this will be our first stop. read more

As part of Intercity Transit's National Bike to Work Day on May 15, my daughter and I visited DRC. We met a lot of enthusiastic riders who shared they just came down to DRC to say "hi" to Adam; tremendous respect for him. (The Little Truck Espresso @espressoutside made the best espresso!) Adam took time (busy shop) to fix me up with some new grips! I am thrilled we made this connection with DRC. We have since gone back for needed repairs. Adam is super knowledgeable, uber friendly, a great listener, and offers a great selection of products (even latex free grips for my daughter's bike). If you stop at DRC and their hours didn't work, make the time to come back. We have to keep supporting small businesses in downtown Olympia, plus DRC is worth the wait! Don't forget to say "hi" to Bea, DRC's mascot! read more

Jason and Deschutes were fantabulous. I had done a ton of research on the best commuter for my needs (Surly Bridge Club) but could not find it anywhere near Seattle due to the current bike shortage. Deschutes was my last hope, and they came through big time. They promptly responded to my email inquiry and held the bike until I could get to the shop. I was able to test ride it before purchase, and Jason answered my many questions. I absolutely LOVE the bike, and could not be happier with the service I received. read more

A biking godsend Knowledgeable & friendly . Right brands (Surly, of course ) . Great owner & super location . If you bike , you'll like

10 mins into a 500 mile bike adventure - I had a derailleur meltdown. Despite their busy schedule / they assisted me promptly and I was back on the road within 30-45 mins. I unfortunately don't remember the guy's name who assisted but I'm grateful to his sensitivity to my plight and getting me on my way. read more

These guys think they are on a different echelon then most of us. "Save your money and a get nicer bike" Direct quote from these guys. As a small business owner myself I like supporting other small businesses as much as possible but this was a mistake. I took my bike in to have some repairs done. They told me because of how "cheap" my bike was that they didn't want to repair it. My cheap bike rides over 100 miles a week, it works for me and I didn't think I would be judged on the quality of my bike for wanting some repairs done. Good thing REI is in town. I've already contacted them, they would happily do any repairs no matter the original cost or quality of the bike. Good thing too, because some of us can't afford to buy new bikes every time we need some repair work done. read more

I am a full-time bike messnger in seattle, and i commute daily from olympia to work there. When i am in seattle there are numerous bike shops to choose from, but after a recent visit to Deschutes River Cyclery i would think nothing of travelling the same distance to employ their outstanding service. Less than a week prior to my writing this review, my frame broke in half in the middle of an intersection. Although i myself was miraculously unscathed, I was bike-less afterwards, and as my sole form of income and not being financially fortunate enough to own multiple bikes, I was in a dire situation.  The very next day i headed to downtown Olympia, where Adam at Deschutes managed to get me in and out with same-day service. I needed more work done to complete a frame swap than expected, and with that tall of an order most walk-in customers would have to pick up on a next-day basis (or more at times I'm sure, depending on the weekly workload of any which bike shop) and i have never felt more assured in the quality of service or when leaving my trusted steed in the careful caring hands of Adam.  Varying weather and the changing seasons can cause bike shops to vary in how busy they can be, and I certainly wouldn't ever expect such speedy work at the drop of a hat from any shop, ever, based on those factors alone. But sometimes all it takes is that one time; that one day where the odds are against you, and it seems like you're just one more inconvenient occurrence away from disaster, and then someone or something turns it all around with nothing more than being a genuine, reliable, and kind-hearted individual! I can't wait until the next time i can pass a bike into the hands of the Deschutes River Cyclery staff. I will always make it a point to return there and patronize this PNW gem of a shop, and I've told every messenger/cyclist i know that if they are ever in Olympia to stop in. Thanks again, Adam. The new setup feels amazing! read more

Went down to get a couple tubes and air canisters today. Sign says their open and to knock. I knock and no one comes to the door. And there is people working. And I was standing right in front of the door, so I know they saw me. So they definitely lost a loyal customer read more

I don't mind paying full retail when I need something short notice , like when I'm on a ride and my tire pump takes a dump and I need a new one to get me home . This place totally screwed me on a Lezyne hv drive to the tune of $20 bucks over retail....cause i like to get treated like a CHUMP! I like to buy at local shops and expect some level of reasonable pricing ...but not when I get totally FUCKED! And BTW...Take your Political bullshit posted on your windows and shove it up your ass...NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN. Shitty shop with No ethics. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO TO JOYRIDE!!! read more

Excellent service! Sam, the person I worked with was very nice and very knowledgeable and took a lot of time to help me understand more about my bike in the local trail systems. He did not push any sales on me or anything like that! He was genuinely nice and willing to spend time with me. I can't say how much I appreciate that. read more

Awesome place! It's my new regular local bike shop. Location is perfect for me. Recently had my commuter worked on by Joseph. He replaced my right shifter cable when I stopped by, while I waited, which wasn't long. He looked it over, and I needed a drive train overhaul, which I kinda knew. They got it in, repaired, and back to me in a couple of days. Decided to have them look over my mid 80s steel lugged road bike. I talked to Adam about it, and we worked out some repairs, maintenance, and upgrades. I'm now riding it every day, and I'm LOVING it. Never would have thought that a wider set of bars would make such a huge difference. read more

I had such a great experience at Deschutes! I'm not a bike person, but I do love owning a bike and hadn't for a few years. Neil and Adam helped me find my dream bike and patiently let me ask one million questions about its operation and maintenance. They gave me a killer deal and were total sweethearts. I had a problem with the bike on my first ride, and took it back in. They quickly fixed it and tweaked the seat height for me in a flash. I enjoy the laid back casual vibe at the shop and the friendly, no pressure customer service. I love that they are finding vintage frames and rebuilding them at reasonable prices. Truly a gift to our community! read more

I came in on a Sunday - mid afternoon. There was not a single customer in the store. 2 workers only. I asked for a tire to be looked at and I was told they simply couldn't look at it for 3 days. Not even an assessment. SHE wouldn't even come around the counter after asking to please just take a quick peek to see what I might need to repair it. I was shocked at how I was completely denied even 5 minutes of her time. I ride a bicycle and so do many of my friends and I will NEVER come here again and be sharing my experience. The owners should employ people with a better grip on customer service! read more

Go on a bike ride! This is not a review of bike riding. This is a review of the shop you should use to help you get to your bike riding. These pros know bikes and bike repair. They are sort of like therapists too and bike matchmakers. They helped me have the bike of my dreams. Let them help you! You have to pay them money, but it's worth it. read more

Service was not friendly or helpful at all, while shop smelled terrible and the parking lot is very small and hard to turn around in when driving a large vehicle. Will not be coming back to this bike shop. Got what I needed but very disappointed. read more

Neil made me an awesome custom wheel set!! Man knows his bikes. Thx Neil and DRC!

Definitely avoid!!! I dropped off a wheel with a broken axle on a Sunday and they told me it would be repaired by Wednesday. On Wednesday they called and said it was ready, come pick it up. So I drove the 15 miles into Tumwater and they said repair would require a new wheel, could not tell me the cost or repair time. If their business practices are this sloppy I would have little confidence in their repair work. The best advice I've gotten from Olympia area bicyclists is that if you need repair or a new bike go to Portland, read more

This is the best cycle shop in town! Adam is the greatest mechanic and helps and is extremely knowledgable and remembers the work he performed plus the shop fm has excellent customer service! read more

The shop is friendly and professional, and has a nice selection of bikes to choose from. I purchased one of their new bikes, and requested a few add-ons. The mechanics modified my bike to spec & got me on the road quickly. Excellent service with a smile. read more

I recently bought a bike here and I've also had another bike looked at and I've always had A+ customer service!!!!

Awesome Cyclery. Fix your bike to the best good prices and the owners are super awesome and could answer every question I had about biking.

Found this place after another local shop did not show up for work and open up. They provided excellent advice and did a good build on the bike I bought. Good folks and a good shop. read more

Hands down the best place to get a bike, get your bike serviced, hang out and talk about bikes, or just chat up the sassy mechanics. Deschutes River Cyclery is a family run local business. You can find the owners in there every day, getting their hands dirty, loving what they do, and making sure your bike gives you the most pleasurable ride possible. No B.S. here. Just honest, straightforward, bike support and information. Also the only bike shop where you can buy a used bike in Olympia, as far as I know. Road bikes, BMX, etc. Used parts. Sexy helmets. Just plain awesome. read more
