    My preciousssss....

So about a year ago, I built myself a bike from a '94 Cannondale frame I found locally. When you build something from the ground up, you get attached to it. And after the initial blush of first love passes, you want to build on the relationship because it's worth it. For me and my bike, this meant slowly, but surely, tweak things here and there to give my baby what she needs. (Yeah, I know, I'm talking about my bike. It's a metaphor. Deal with it. And knock it off with the jokes...this isn't junior high school.) Last spring, out of curiosity, I asked Kelsey and Joey what they could build up that would work well for commuting and joy-riding (on road, sadly...my knees no longer love the chop.) They provided a quote which was quite reasonable, but out of my budget at the time. I told myself that it would happen at some point, but worried that I'd put them to a bunch of research that would come to nothing. But both were extremely cool about it, and told me they'd be there when I decided to go forward. Cut to COVID, and every bike shop on the planet going nuts with massive amounts of work. My bike got more use than ever, and my venerable, but used, wheelset began succumbing to age. And no one and their grandmother had 26" wheels that I would have dared put on my bike and trusted to not kill me. So I went back to Kelsey and Joey, and told them I was ready to pull the trigger. Unfortunately, manufacturers and suppliers were and are having trouble keeping up with increased demand. But rather than proceed with lower end parts, or worse for me, higher end parts, they recommended patience. And then the parts started becoming available, first the hubs, then rims, then spokes. And then, the most beautiful set of wheels I've ever touched. I picked them up a couple of days ago. My only regret? Not having my tires already here so I could mount these up. Everything thing about them screams quality, and looks sexy while doing so. There is a science to wheel-building. Hubs and rims need to be matched. Spokes need to be measured properly. Getting the axle length right. Assembling the parts, then truing and dishing the well. Tensioning the spokes, then putting the wheels through a stress test and tweaking things until they're perfect. Everything needs to be just right. When I picked the wheels up, Kelsey ran me through the checklist of things they did to build these masterpieces. Because they are: they are beyond the science and into the art of the build as well. Look at the pictures, and you'll see that these perfectly trued, smooth spinning wheels are also drop dead gorgeous. Are they too much for this bike? Maybe...I don't think so, because these will last way longer than an off-the-rack set. Are they too much for me? Probably...I'm not Lance Armstrong, in that I'm not an elite athlete who has legs the size of tree trunks and can ride nonstop all day. (Also, I'm not into blood doping.) Am I going to enjoy these for many years to come? Damn straight. When I decide to add to my cycle stable, my first serious upgrade will be a wheelset that will be another Kelsey and Joey masterpiece. Thank you again, a million times over!

Chain stay rub all the way to carbon

I was interested in a bike that Joey of Indigenous wheel had for sale. I asked about the condition of the bicycle and if anything was wrong with the bike or needed to be repaired. He responded that it needed a tune up and the headset tighten everything else was in good working order. I show up to the shop today to purchase the bike, a 2013 Cannondale Supersix Evo, an $800 purchase and the bike was NOT in good working order. Both of the shifters has damage on them, the rear wheel was out of true and the chain stays had massive rear carbon wear. Through the paint and multiple layers of carbon. His response? "Oh yeah that's just par for the course on these bikes" I have built up 5+ supersix evo bikes and this amount of rub is NOT PAR FOR THE COURSE. As a bike shop owner he should 100% have known about this damage and either was trying to get over on someone or just didn't care. Regardless i wouldn't trust this guy at all.

Additionally, I work graveyards and Joey made the effort to make sure he didn't call when I'd be sleeping.

I went in to get my derailleur adjusted for some ghost shifting issues and to bleed my breaks since it had been a few years and I noticed that my rear breaks were feeling spongy and were taking a while to engage. I have a hardtail mountain bike that I like taking out on trails, so I did not want to be dependent upon my front breaks. I was told that they would take a look at my bike and then text me a quote for how much the service would cost before they did any adjustments. They did not text me a quote for service, but instead went ahead and made the adjustments without my permission. When I went to pick up my bike, I was ignored while they helped the men who walked in well after me. When I was finally able to get my bike, I was told that my breads did not need to bleed since they felt "solid" and just needed a little extra pull on the lever. I was then condescendingly told about my front breaks, and to "use this one when you're going downhill too fast and feel scared". Rode my bike around a bit, and the issue with my derailleur is not fixed. This shop is a waste of time and money.

Told me the work was done but when bike was submitted to me they had disconnected brake cables (to do tire work presumably) and left them disconnected!! A guy named Will took over and reconnected front cables. The brakes had always worked great until I took the bike to this shop. Now the front ones are ok again but the rear wheel slips when I brake. If you do go to this shop ask for Will, he seems more ethical and competent than the other guy whose name I don't know.

I told him to not buy me a new bike, I just wanted My Bike tuned up. He went to Cycle Therapy. They sold him a new bike. (It was going to be about the same amount of money to buy a new bike as it would be to overhaul my old bike). Upon seeing my "new" bike I called the store and ended up talking to the owner Ric. I explained that I wanted my old bike back and tuned up. They still had it and Ric offered to allow me to return the new bike and that they would go ahead and overhaul my old bike for me. Chris and Chad did a GREAT job. I am so happy. But here is the best part... the customer service. All of the team members at Cycle Therapy were totally about making us happy. Honestly, I think they were trying to save my hubby money by selling him a new bike (did I say my Trex was old...it's super old). In the end, they overhauled My Bike for the same price as we had paid for the new bike (that might sound like a lot to pay for a tune up - it would be, but this was an Overhaul...as in darn near built me a new bike on my old frame....). All the while, the Team was sooooo accommodating, pleasant, (they could have turned their noses up at My Bike, but they just seemed to understand that I like my old bike) and they wanted to make it right for me in any way possible. I am in a front-facing customer service job myself and when I experience EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE, which is rare these days, I want to let the world know - so here it is! Support this shop and this team, you will enjoy the experience and the end product.
