Typical misogynistic bike shop TLDR: Performed adjustments without my permission, didn't even perform the service I asked for, then spoke to me condescendingly as if I don't know what a bike is. I went in to get my derailleur adjusted for some ghost shifting issues and to bleed my breaks since it had been a few years and I noticed that my rear breaks were feeling spongy and were taking a while to engage. I have a hardtail mountain bike that I like taking out on trails, so I did not want to be dependent upon my front breaks. I was told that they would take a look at my bike and then text me a quote for how much the service would cost before they did any adjustments. They did not text me a quote for service, but instead went ahead and made the adjustments without my permission. When I went to pick up my bike, I was ignored while they helped the men who walked in well after me. When I was finally able to get my bike, I was told that my breads did not need to bleed since they felt "solid" and just needed a little extra pull on the lever. I was then condescendingly told about my front breaks, and to "use this one when you're going downhill too fast and feel scared". Rode my bike around a bit, and the issue with my derailleur is not fixed. This shop is a waste of time and money. read more

Bottom line: great small business bike shop that has everything you need; from new road/trail bikes to accessories (chains, helmets, air pumps, attire, etc.). The customer service was also top notch and very welcoming and fast. If you need anything with regards to bikes- make sure you patron this establishment. I definitely will. Venue: it's clean, well appointed, and ergonomic. The only part that may be frustrating is the parking lot where you'll have to compete with the local coffee stand. To me, a minor distraction. The venue was relatively easy to find with Apple/Google Maps. Customer service: fast, knowledgeable, and courteous. It's everything you would want in a business. They want your business and they know how to delivers Service: it was relatively quick for a bike fix (tire). They have all the parts and a back area to work on it. Guy at the counter was abrasive, took my bike in for new inner tubes, wouldn't let me see the repair work he was doing.. when he was done things were wrong that had never been before. Told me the work was done but when bike was submitted to me they had disconnected brake cables (to do tire work presumably) and left them disconnected!! A guy named Will took over and reconnected front cables. The brakes had always worked great until I took the bike to this shop. Now the front ones are ok again but the rear wheel slips when I brake. If you do go to this shop ask for Will, he seems more ethical and competent than the other guy whose name I don't know. read more

Been going here for ages. Service department was some cats from way back. Bike Tech days. Always did good work. Took my bike in and said "do what you have to, to make it safe and rideable." They call and say "its ready." When guy brings it up to me, he says "this isnt safe. dangerous to ride." I take it back to the service department (employees ive never seen there before). I've been a pretty regular customer over the last 10 years or so. my first visit into this business was in regards to a very poor quality "big box store" cheap bike that needed help. they didn't judge, made repairs and recommendations that were all very appropriate for the bike. I even went back a few times for that same bike and they continued to exactly the same level of service every time. just over a year ago (early 2021) I decided it was time to get an upgrade. during this time they assisted getting me into a new bike and all the while accommodating my issues. fast forward to today. that bike has nearly 1500 miles on it. I'm sure I bent/damaged the rear derailleur by dropping my bike once. when I went back to ask about some other issues I also inquired to chain condition. it was a bit stretched and a good time to change it. this led to that damaged derailleur being replaced based on the amount of time it took the tech to get it realigned. he didn't give up on adjusting the old one though. he got it to a point he was happy and I have to say it did shift better than it had. also, the bottom bracket bearing had loosened up and that was found about a week later when I returned to get the new derailleur installed. also, they were down staff at that point and when I arrived with the intent to drop by bike off he asked if I was willing to wait. he had time to get it all set up while I was there. this was a bonus to me. this is just a local bicycle shop but great customer service and they really know their products. read more

Just there this morning for something small -- new handlebar grips, but I had a couple other tiny issues that I asked about, and Kyle, in the service department, helped me out -- no charge, and he was so friendly about it! In this day and age, with it becoming more rare every day to find good service (and, frankly, friendly people), he really stood out. During my 30 min phone call, Brian talked me through all of the info I needed to gather and then provided me with the options that would work and the pricing associated. Worked with Andy and the Service department. I received excellent service and the work was completed better than expected and did not exceed the estimate. My bike is an E-Bike and they did not have any problem doing the requested work. The shop is currently following some Covid-19 safety protocols and it might be a little slower than usual, however, they are still providing very good service in a safe environment. They have good friendly bike techs .. they are knowledgeable and have good customer service skills .. Yet, the sales person , Will(?) is always pushy and has definitely has strong opinions of where your bike seat should be . My child is afraid of heights , and has special needs . So when she states clearly not to high she is advocating for herself . He is consistently very direct and inpatient with her and myself . When he asked to try she said " No, She didn't like it that high" and it was scaring her . I advocated for her and he still wouldn't listen to the me , the person who knows her child the best . Who is advocating for her .One note of further education, he should try actively listening with a open mind to the customers . That's Highly rated good customer service to me . In return , It would earn him more repeat business . We only go there because they have really good bike techs who really know their bikes and that is where it counts in a bike repair shop . read more

I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting to love this place as much as I do. I just *knew* it would be one of those places where I would walk in, feel intimidated, and then not even have to sneak out 'cause no one bothered to ask if I needed help anyway. I've been here three times in the last two months, and already someone took the time to learn my name - AND they were able to turn my bike around super quick. They've got a really great crew here. Sad to say I have to post a 1 star review for this shop. No longer will joyride have my service or my respect. Earlier last week I went in to get a few things after the guy told me the part would work I went home and installed the part . Sadly it wouldn't work so today 4/28/20 I go in to return my product reciept and part in hand gave the guy both he then asked To see my ID to check to see if I was the actual buyer he wanted " to make sure I didn't steal somebody's reciept and part to try and get money that wasn't mine " when he brought my money to me he thought it was hysterical and told me he was smiling the whole time he said that and I probably couldn't tell because he had his face mask on .... Very professional joyride ! You also had a bystander that heard exactly what the guy said as well not pleased I had my eyes set on a very nice downhill bike on your floor .. Ive bought two bikes from Joy Ride and Derik, Aaron, and John are the best to work with. They know all kinds of bikes (commuter, recreational, mountain, road, race). I've dealt with another bike shop in town and they were extremely slow in placing special orders. (I had to call three times asking about my tires.) Joy Ride has fast special orders and great service, calling as soon as items come in. Also, the guys are top competitive cyclists and ride year round, so they really know what gear works and is practical. Highest recommendation. read more

What a bunch of great folks! I have been in a few times and brought my not so new bike in for wheel straightening and new tires. I didnt want to spend a ton of money because my bike is on its last season. After being greeted promptly, we took my bike off the rack and the super nice fellow helped me pick out tires and he fixed it up on the spot. I was riding and hour later! This was great, I didn't feel the pressure of not spending money on parts that are out of my price range and nobody was raising their nose at my not so new bike - quite the opposite. Okay, I'm going to update again, a year later. Husband & I just took in our bikes for tune-ups there. Turnaround time was about 5 days right before the Commuter Contest started so that was great. Because we purchased our bikes there they knocked off quite a bit for all of the gear & derailleur adjustments. I needed a lot of work done and new parts from a year of regular riding. They suggested getting breaks that have a tiny screw I can un-do and slip in replacement pads when these wear out; sold! Total was around $135 for both bikes, definitely a steal. The ol' Club is running like melted candy now and I'm out there getting my base miles in again. Love Joy Ride. read more

My partner and I both had issues with our bikes- a creaky bottom bracket and an off-kilter disc brake- and drove an hour to Olympia on a Friday night 30 minutes before closing fully expecting to have to leave our bikes there for a few days and pay some amount for labor and possibly parts to diagnose and fix the problems. Jason met us at the door (held it open for us) and talked us through everything, how much it would cost if he had to do x,y,z, what the potential issues were, did some preliminary diagnostic tests and after about half an hour of talking about mountain bike trails on the west coast and casually and humbly demonstrating an advanced understanding of bottom brackets and brakes, he had fixed both our problems and sent us on our way without charging us anything. They are also extremely dog friendly (as long as your dog is friendly of course). Needless to say we will definitely be back and can't rave about this place enough. Well worth the 2 hour drive round trip on a Friday night! read more

It really didn't need much cleaning or loving , they were just lazy . This shop takes advantage of people who are not in the know and have $$$ . This is my first review ever.... I'm spend $700-$1200 on maintenance annually so I've been around the block. These folks screwed up my repair on my Enve wheels and took great offense when I protested their rush surcharge. They are certainly no better than average and spectacularly entitled for a service business. I'm willing to pay top dollar for good service but that's not what I found here. I found them a bit of a pain in the ass to deal with. There I'm s a Specialized Dealer in town. I think I'll give them a shot next time. read more

Will helped me out and broke everything down for me and found me the perfect bike for my needs... and it was on sale too! They aren't just trying to suck your money from you, they actually want you to enjoy your bike and make sure you have an enjoyable experience. I have a new favorite bike store! The guys at Joy Ride are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Every time I walk in, they greet me quickly and help me find exactly what I'm looking for. Joy Ride has a big selection (especially compared to other bike stores in Thurston County) and their prices are really good! Some of their employees are downhill mountain bike maniacs, some are serious roadies but all of them really, really love bikes - and want you to love your bike too! I live in Tumwater and it would be way easier to shop at one of the many bike stores in Olympia. However, Joy Ride is worth the drive! read more

Good shop, I rode from West Oly to Lacey and got a flat. They were the closets shop open on the weekend I figured would have 29er tube. The guys let me change my tube out right there in the store and had a pump for me to borrow too. I can't say I looked at the bikes, but the staff was great. read more

I'm not a local and have no previous experience with Joy Ride but they saved my bacon midway through a Pacific Coast bike tour. Giro shoes were falling apart and they're kind of a weird size width wise. No one at home carries the wide sizes but they happened to have them on the shelf. Nice folks, zero bike snobbery. They were dialing in a women's wheelchair and all of the three guys who helped me were cool. Looked like they had a good BMX selection, some cross bikes on sale at attractive prices. Lots of fenders.
