Failed nail visit. Poor design and priced way too high for their skill level.

I paid for a cuticle trim, yet, cuticles remain. This was a brand new full set. 10 hours after my visit I took this photo and it looks like a fill is needed. The tips look awful, it's like he referenced some cheap Amazon press on nails in his mind. I will not waste my money on this salon, the owner has salons in multiple states so I hope this review is helpful for Residents and travelers alike. I will be requesting a full refund, I'll share how it's handled. My shoes were brand new, I left looking like 'they' need a deep-clean. The employees stared at me, like they held a special interest in me alone, to that I say, take a picture it's lasts longer. Or watch your recordings of me. ‍

December 4, 2023...its been a year since I've come here. today, I wanted to see Ben for a new set, and i needed a pedicure. Ben was funny and had a good sense of humor. He took my old set of nails off... no soaking. [I would have liked a little wet just to have made it easier... because we all know how it feels when we take off "dry" tips]. I will suggest he do that next time. my almond shaped dark green nails came out great Caroline did my pedicure, which, of course, was awesome

Walked in and were greeted with smiles. Glad they took us for mani/pedis. Super high quality service and very reasonably priced. Great foot/leg massage especially with the hot wax and hot stones. Overall experience lasted 90 minutes. Wonderful to meet the owner who stopped by to chat and asked where we were visiting from. His son was kind enough to point us to a place to dance at on the island. Great service, kind professionals, and very clean salon.

I would definitely recommend this place. I come here every time I travel to the area. It's my go-to spot! It's always clean and so is the bathroom. I love the service: quick, friendly, and personable. The staff are fantastic. They accommodated what I wanted and responsive to my requests. I love the complimentary beverage.

No frills nail salon! Friendly, older employees who don't try to sell you anything except what you ask for. I got a basic mani with regular polish for engagement photos. I had an older gentleman who was so nice, and took his time with shaping & cuticles. The original color was paler than what I wanted, and he was happy to erase literally the entire thing and start over again. Manager took over for the 2nd round and we got the color perfect. 10% off if you're a teacher or UTMB employee. The most amazing part - price. I was stunned when the bill was $14.40. No attitude. No upselling any other service. I don't even think I can eat a meal for that price anymore. Will be coming back!

Went here on a Monday, late in the morning. Walked in the door and was made to feel like you're bothering them. They just stare at you. Lol. While they have a lot of Christian phrases plastered on the walls, there is no joy in the facility. All the staff acted like they were forced to work. Everyone had puss face. The pedicures we received were average at best. My polish chipped after two days. We won't be back.

While visiting the area, we decided to treat ourselves and get a mani and pedi after having been out walking along The Strand earlier in the day. We loved the Christian atmosphere and service quality. Of all of the places that we could have chosen, I'm grateful that we were led to Joy Nails. When back in the area, I would absolutely visit again. My ocean blue pedi and French mani will still look great when I return home. read more

I came in while on vacation and the gentleman (don't remember his name) was the BEST technician I've had for my spa pedicure! I told him I was having terrible leg cramps from traveling and he literally made my legs feel brand new! Hot stones yes but he took so much time on my legs! I only wish you were closer-I'm from Arizona but I wanted to make sure I let all the Galveston people know how awesome you all are read more

Worst mani/pedi I've EVER had. I paid for gel fingernails... they chipped/peeled off in less than a week. I had to file my own nails as soon as I got back to my Airbnb because they weren't smooth at all. My toenails were so rough they were catching the sheets when I got in bed. Again, I had to file them myself. I paid for the "upgraded" spa pedi and got some lotion barely slapped on my legs with no massage, a couple of minutes of attention given while the guy talked to coworkers, and that was it. I couldn't get them to match my (non-gel) toe polish to my (gel) nails so I said just give me a French mani and put color on my toes. The guy was very short with me and argued like he was extremely irritated. He actually "shushed" me and sort of manhandled my hands, grabbing and pulling them! My son also got a "premium" pedi (no buffing, just barely cleaning up) that took maybe 20 minutes, leaving his feet rough, and again, lotion just slapped on. Seriously, I rarely give bad reviews but this was $120 wasted. I had to get my nails re-done when I got back to Austin. Awful experience all the way around and a total waste of money. read more

We went for pedicures and had the most awesome time! A little girl time and taking time to get a bit of pampering. We didn't have an appointment and we were only in town for a weekend get away - they accommodated us with no hesitation, did their magic and we loved the end results! We will def go again when we are back in Galveston! read more

I am not the person who writes reviews but the quality of the service was so horrible that I am going to spend time doing it this time. I have been doing sns dip manicure for 4 years and I've never had such a poor service before. At least one nail gets chipped or the powder cracks right in the middle every single day. Only nails that still look intact has a thickness of powder like a drywall. There is no reason for it to crack and chip from nothing! I was able to pick and crack crabs when the service is done property. But I am vacation right now and don't even do dishes! I would given it no stars if I could. On the pictures you can see that the application is very sloppy and for some reason no cuticle work was included in sns manicure in this place read more

Chose this store base on Yelp reviews as I am new to the area. Was skeptical at first when I asked my nail tech for the OPI Bubble Bath gel color and she didn't know what that was but someone else quickly got the color for her. She did a wonderful job at naturally shaping my nails and the coats came out very even without lumps or streaks. Kind and courteous interactions and pricing was $35 for mani with gel polish. Wish I took pictures the day of, but these are my nails after a week of wear and tear. Still beautiful! read more

Took my girlfriend here during a spontaneous beach trip, and we couldn't have been more satisfied. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Being by the seawall, I was impressed on how clean the salon was. My gf and I trekked sand into the salon, but they were quick to clean our mess with no hesitation. I highly recommend the Royal Pedicure. My girlfriend also got a gel manicure, and she raved about how she didn't have to wait for her nails to dry. You can not do any better than Joy Nails!! I'm new to Galveston and I've previously tried some other nail salons on the island and, boy, am I glad I kept searching for something better...because, today, I found it! I was immediately welcomed as soon as I walked through the door and I didn't have to wait at all...I picked my colors and was shown right to the pedi chair, where they offered me complimentary water or soda. :) I was feeling the need to be pampered, so I got the Signature Pedi (omg...I love hot stones!) and fill-ins on my gels. My nails were done right at the chair, while my pedi was in progress...I LOVE it when salons do that! Kinda makes you feel important! :) I also decided to get my eyebrows waxed (ALSO done at the chair) and some fun, island-themed nail art. Everything was FANTASTIC! The ladies that worked on me (darn it if I didn't get their names) frequently asked me if I liked what they were doing and if I was comfortable, etc...they really paid attention to every detail! My nails and eyebrows turned out beautiful! I'm so excited that I found Joy Nails, and I can't say enough good things about my experience! I can't wait to go back!!!! read more

This review was long overdue. My daughter and I reserved a day to ourselves to celebrate our birthdays on March 9th. Her wish was to go eat out and to go shopping. Halfway through our day, she decided that she would like to have a mani /pedi. I told her that it is Sunday and no one will be taking us at 4 p.m. Well, she checked and saw Joy Nails in Galveston. We didn't even know about this new nail place. My daughter called and ask if we could be seen in an hour and they squeezed as in! We showed up, with my 13 yr old son, tagging along. The owner was very friendly, got my daughter and I both seated and comfortably, with our preferred drinks (they offer water or soda). The spa atmosphere of the shop is what I loved!!! My son was getting a little bored so the owner was nice enough to have him sit on one of the massage chairs and he enjoyed it so much! This place was quite and nice people . But the actual attention to details finish of the service was sub par . My nails were cut square and callous on wife's big toes were not even addressed . She had to mention to them to work on them and once done the job was not good . Some other lack of service when getting the crown royal package , expected a bit more care and service . read more

Went in and they weren't busy, got set up with a lady to do my pedicure when a regular comes in and suddenly I was switched to a new lady because the regular wanted the one who was doing mine which was annoying. They got busy soon after and suddenly it seemed like it was a race to get me out to accommodate the others. I left with some pointy nails and some round nails--basically, my nails looked like a hot mess that weren't shaped correctly. It's embarrassing to look at. read more

This was my first time at Joy nails. I just moved to Galveston and needed a fill in bad. I saw all the great reviews on here and decided to give this place a try. I just walked in since it was around 4pm. I was greeted right away and was told to get a seat. Lee ended up doing my acrylic fill in and gel polish and she did amazing. She took her time and cleaned under my nails and even re-acryliced a nail after I noticed a flaw. The shop was really clean. The only bad thing was one of the workers was on her phone talking almost the whole time I was there. Lee was super nice and I would definitely go back to her! read more

I've never gotten my nails done before and my nail tech, Mai, was so nice and helpful! I chose to get acrylics since I have a bunch of events coming up and my natural nails are pretty short. She checked on me between each step to make sure I liked how it was turning out and was receptive to any questions and concerns I had. They turned out even better than I pictured so I will definitely be going back for the next time I need nails. read more

Threes stars instead of one! The lady that did my pedi was AMAZING!! She is deserving of 5+ stars! Sadly the lady that did my mani lacked the skill and warmth deserving of 5 stars. Pedi is perfect! Mani- my nails are longer than I wanted, after mentioning twice that I would like the a little shorter, I abandoned that. The color is perfect! Too bad the nails are crooked and flawed in more than one spot. I requested 1.) shorter nails. 2.) to have them straightened 3.) to have them all the same length. Then they tell me it is $40 for my nails that are crooked & different lengths. Needless to say, I will return for a pedi from the same lady but no mani from there again! read more

I was delighted to find this shop so soon after moving to Galveston. Caroline and her staff provide top quality service in a clean and inviting atmosphere. They offer a wide selection of services and have tons of colors in each of the different nail options they offer. With a large, capable staff they seem to always be able to accommodate walk-in customers and do so with a smile. I won't go anywhere else on the island for manicures or pedicures. read more

However, they only offer one pedicure and it is $75, if you want shellac it is $25 more. They try to justify their high price to you the entire time by trying to educate you about your feet and why you shouldn't let other salons do things they do. I don't mind being explained once but I felt like I was being scolded and lectured the entire time. I finally had to tell them I was tired and just wanted to relax.

How many times do I have to go back to a salon to get a nail manicure repaired in the first four days. After that I gave up when the rest of them started to peel or break off I just got out my crazy glue and ultimately took the polish off entirely. Needless to say, I will not be going back. Compared to other prices in the area it was on the expensive side and one of the worst mani/pedis I've ever gotten.

I received a gift certificate for this salon for my birthday. I figured I would put it to use, and I was due for a mani/pedi anyways. It was my first time coming to this place, and I was surprised how clean it was upon entering! The floor was so clean, and the furniture were well kept. There was also not that strong smell of that nail stuff like other places have. I usually end up getting a little headache from the past places Ive tried, but I didnt have that problem here. The smell of this salon was very pleasant! There was also relaxing, piano music playing, and I was offered a complimentary drink. Both made my visit that much better! I had my manicure and pedicure done by the owner, Caroline, and she was very nice and friendly. We had a good conversation during my time there, and she was helpful when it came to making a decision for choosing a polish color from the five different ones that I had. There were just so many pretty colors! She also drew some cute flowers on my big toes, and it amazed me how she made those dots into pretty flowers. I had an ingrown nail that was bothering me, but she took care of that very well. She made me feel very welcomed and she did a great job! Overall, I enjoyed my first visit to Joy Nails, and this certainly wont be my last! Im very thankful to have received that gift certificate from my friend. I highly recommend this place. Went here with 5 friends. did some research ahead of time. It is very clean and pleasant environment. All the ladies were pleased with my choice. They were very professional. They even were able to imitate a design on one of myfriends based on what she got at home so toes and fingers matched perfectly. It was with out a doubt the best pedi-mani experience I have ever had. I wish they were in my home town. I would highly reccomend them to people traveling in Galvaston. My friends were also very impressed with the salons attention to detail and professional staff and we had 6 different people that took care of us for wax, threading, mani and pedis. I am from Dallas and visited Galveston over Labor Day weekend for a family vacation. I chose Joy nails based on the excellent reviews and I am glad I did. It is an outstanding place to get pampered. The reviews are correct, the salon is absolutely emaculate and spotless. The service is also 5 star along with very reasonable pricing. Everyone we encountered was a "Joy". You will not be disapointed with Joy Nails. Thank you Joy Nails for a wonderful time getting manicures and pedicures with my mom and sister. We will back each time we visit Galveston. read more

Went to Joy Nails for the first time yesterday and was very impressed. The salon was very clean and I was greeted right away. Talked to the owner Caroline and explained I had a problem with my nails, she was able to help me and while I waited her husband Lin talked to me and offered me a complimentary drink. Great place! I've tried other nail salons on the island and this is by far the best. Very clean, attentive, thorough, relaxing. My mom and I got the $45 upgraded pedicure which includes sea salt scrub, paraffin wax, hot stone foot massage, mask, hot towel wrap, and more. It was wonderful. Called Joy for an appointment, said I have to call Joy II, they have the appointment book. Called Joy II, she said no Caroline is not here I can't make appointment, call Joy I. No one offered to take name and number to call back for appointment. Guess I'll go somewhere else, was really looking forward to trying. read more

Here's a fun tip: Joy Nails opens at 9am. So this worked out perfectly for a Saturday morning pedicure. Helen gives a great massage. You can park in the Dental office spots on Saturdays. read more
