Failed nail visit. Poor design and priced way too high for their skill level.

I paid for a cuticle trim, yet, cuticles remain. This was a brand new full set. 10 hours after my visit I took this photo and it looks like a fill is needed. The tips look awful, it's like he referenced some cheap Amazon press on nails in his mind. I will not waste my money on this salon, the owner has salons in multiple states so I hope this review is helpful for Residents and travelers alike. I will be requesting a full refund, I'll share how it's handled. My shoes were brand new, I left looking like 'they' need a deep-clean. The employees stared at me, like they held a special interest in me alone, to that I say, take a picture it's lasts longer. Or watch your recordings of me. ‍

December 4, 2023...its been a year since I've come here. today, I wanted to see Ben for a new set, and i needed a pedicure. Ben was funny and had a good sense of humor. He took my old set of nails off... no soaking. [I would have liked a little wet just to have made it easier... because we all know how it feels when we take off "dry" tips]. I will suggest he do that next time. my almond shaped dark green nails came out great Caroline did my pedicure, which, of course, was awesome

Walked in and were greeted with smiles. Glad they took us for mani/pedis. Super high quality service and very reasonably priced. Great foot/leg massage especially with the hot wax and hot stones. Overall experience lasted 90 minutes. Wonderful to meet the owner who stopped by to chat and asked where we were visiting from. His son was kind enough to point us to a place to dance at on the island. Great service, kind professionals, and very clean salon.

I would definitely recommend this place. I come here every time I travel to the area. It's my go-to spot! It's always clean and so is the bathroom. I love the service: quick, friendly, and personable. The staff are fantastic. They accommodated what I wanted and responsive to my requests. I love the complimentary beverage.

No frills nail salon! Friendly, older employees who don't try to sell you anything except what you ask for. I got a basic mani with regular polish for engagement photos. I had an older gentleman who was so nice, and took his time with shaping & cuticles. The original color was paler than what I wanted, and he was happy to erase literally the entire thing and start over again. Manager took over for the 2nd round and we got the color perfect. 10% off if you're a teacher or UTMB employee. The most amazing part - price. I was stunned when the bill was $14.40. No attitude. No upselling any other service. I don't even think I can eat a meal for that price anymore. Will be coming back!

Went here on a Monday, late in the morning. Walked in the door and was made to feel like you're bothering them. They just stare at you. Lol. While they have a lot of Christian phrases plastered on the walls, there is no joy in the facility. All the staff acted like they were forced to work. Everyone had puss face. The pedicures we received were average at best. My polish chipped after two days. We won't be back.

I have been patronizing the owners of this place for well over a decade (followed them here when they opened their own place). Best nail spa on the island in my opinion. Everyone is so nice and welcoming to all, the salon is comfortable and relaxing and they do their best to accommodate the needs of all clients, even when there are a ton of walk-ins! They expanded to a second location a few years ago which also stays busy. The level of traffic through both places speaks for itself. I really only ever get pedicures and the occasional shellac, but they do full sets, dips, powders, gels and probably many things I don't know about. Also waxing, volcano spa pedicures, and I think massage. If you're visiting or live here and are looking for a new place, try them out for your self care needs! read more

I had been researching a pedicure place to go while I am at Galveston. I look for clean, friendly, and good customer service! I have found the place, took my granddaughters to get their nails done too! They were nice the place was clean and sanitize the tools that were used on our feet! ( a most for me). The ladies were very attentive to my girls and me! I will recommend and will come back next time we are in Galveston!! read more

Ann (sp?) performed my gel manicure on November 1 - beautiful. I walked in without an appointment. It was toward the end of their day, so it worked out for me. Ann was very gentle, thorough, and meticulous. I use my hands a lot, without gloves. My nail color did not chip. This is my first time using DND shellac - it wears beautifully, makes my nails feel strong, and it is super shiny. I went in again today, November 9, for another gel manicure because my nails grow rather quickly, and I like my nail polish completely covering my nail bed. I did make an appointment today, since I was going in earlier and thought that would be a good thing to do. I'm glad I did. The place was buzzing. Ann did a beautiful job again today. She also performed my classic gel pedicure - careful, precise. The short but thorough foot scrub was very nice; the sugar scrub leg massage was also very enjoyable. My daughter and I got our nails done at noon... my daughters nails (regular polish) are more than half way off after an hour in the pool... I don't expect it to last forever but this is for a 6 year old so I didn't want to pay for no chip. I thought it would have lasted a little longer.. prior to get getting into the water, it was still a messy pedi with paint all around her big toenail on one foot.. my pedicure (no chip) is less than impressive, on top of my cuticle. I feel like I might have been able to do it better myself. We were just trying to get pampered on vacation. I was a walk in and was able to be see. Immediately. It was two hours before closing so plenty of time to do a mani/pedi since I planned on a basic pedicure. My first impression wasn't good as the second I sat down in the pedicure chair, the tech assigned to me said something and they all looked at me and laughed. Doesn't matter what she said whether it was about me being the last person of the night or something rude...the impression it gave me was that I was being made fun of before I even spoke a single word to anyone. The pedicure was rushed and the left leg didn't get more than a minutes massage. When she got to the right leg I asked her how her Christmas was and began a conversation with her and she then spent more than a minute in the right leg. Loved the color I picked and it looked nice but wasn't a relaxing experience. The nail tech who did my nails (Caroline) was the reason I'd come back if I lived here. She was very kind, made sure she understood what I wanted and we had a very pleasant conversation the entire time. She nailed the design! I appreciated her checking in with me throughout the service on whether it was still want I wanted and she was doing such a fab job. The other techs came over to watch her awesome work and agreed she did a great job. I'd definitely come back and make an appointment with her next time I visit. It's unfortunate the visit started the way it did and the pedicure wasn't relaxing like we always hope it will be. Not only do my nails and toes always look awesome, but the owners Caroline and Linh have been wonderful contributors to the small business community, their church and feeding the homeless in Galveston. We walked in without an appt at 1pm on a Sat. We were greeted immediately and they had 2 chairs for us. We both got pedicures and buff manicures. They were awesome! I had gel nails on pedi so an extra $15 but well worth it. Total bill was $70 plus tip. Wish they were in Austin. Will def go again next cruise through Galveston. read more

I made an appointment for a mani/pedi this morning. They started on my manicure first which was nice, however they only soaked my nails for a total of maybe a minute, in cold water by the way, which that was a red flag. The gentleman proceeded to apply lotion instead of cuticle oil onto my nails. He wasn't thorough to say the least. The nail polish was bumpy and uneven. Proceeded to get my pedicure and was rushed and the polish was uneven and not smooth. I will not be coming back here. I felt like I was in an assembly line. It felt like, get as many clients as you can, rush and perform a unsatisfactory job. If had not been dropped off, I would have left immediately during the manicure. Spend your time and money elsewhere. read more

I got a full set with gel polish and it turned out amazing! The music and atmosphere were very relaxing and peaceful. The set that I got are the best I've ever gotten, they aren't too thick, and are super smooth. They also don't have that weird upward angle that some nails have. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely recommend going here. read more

$35 for a rushed shellac manicure last evening that is already peeling not even 24 hours later. The color is light and 3 coats were painted to increase the color, but it was not evenly distributed across nails nor was it even covering the entire nail on all nails. My cuticles were not addressed because I was told I have "beautiful nail beds" (clearly not). I know I purposely chose a very light pink color which will show some nail imperfections, but there are still specs of my previous color showing through the paint so it was not thorough removed. read more

I had an appointment After the initial language barrier and trying to get through to 3 different ladies , that all. I wanted was a color change on toes and fingersml. I was finally understood. I settled on a. nice pink, once it was on nail, ummm no it was pepto bismol in color, I didn't care for it at all. No problem . shet took it off and I chose a lighter pink, Gal said of you don't like it we can change it. Totally happy with end result. Was there just shy of 2 hrs. Gel on toes and dip on nails and pedicure for husband came to $100. Would recommend this place read more

Wow this place was incredible! I called for an appointment and they were able to see me same day. Very sweet and professional nail techs. Love my dips they had plenty of colors to choose from and it was a clean place. Refreshing to see Christian bible verses on the wall and the service reflected the values they have. Awesome experience! It always makes me nervous when I go to a new nail place, because you really just never know how the quality will be. Joy Nails really deserves every bit of 5 stars! On first impression alone, the technicians were very friendly and the salon was spotless, and had a fresh feeling. I got the Royal Pedicure and the "dip" on my nails. They have the disposable plastic lining in the pedicure tubs, which always makes me feel better! The pedicure was very relaxing and she really took her time painting my toes, and always made sure I was comfortable with what she was doing. The same care and precision was taken on my manicure. I got a French "dip" manicure and she took extra care to make sure I liked the shape of my nails and the amount of white tip (I don't like them really thick). I walked in without an appointment and only waited about 15 minutes (they let me sit in the massage chair and soak my feet the whole time so the wait was no big deal). The price for all of this was no more expensive than I have ever paid anywhere else. I will 100% be back the next time I'm in Galveston! Thank you ladies!! read more

They try to justify their high price to you the entire time by trying to educate you about your feet and why you shouldn't let other salons do things they do. I don't mind being explained once but I felt like I was being scolded and lectured the entire time. I finally had to tell them I was tired and just wanted to relax.

How many times do I have to go back to a salon to get a nail manicure repaired in the first four days. After that I gave up when the rest of them started to peel or break off I just got out my crazy glue and ultimately took the polish off entirely. Needless to say, I will not be going back. Compared to other prices in the area it was on the expensive side and one of the worst mani/pedis I've ever gotten.

I received a gift certificate for this salon for my birthday. I figured I would put it to use, and I was due for a mani/pedi anyways. It was my first time coming to this place, and I was surprised how clean it was upon entering! The floor was so clean, and the furniture were well kept. There was also not that strong smell of that nail stuff like other places have. I usually end up getting a little headache from the past places Ive tried, but I didnt have that problem here. The smell of this salon was very pleasant! There was also relaxing, piano music playing, and I was offered a complimentary drink. Both made my visit that much better! I had my manicure and pedicure done by the owner, Caroline, and she was very nice and friendly. We had a good conversation during my time there, and she was helpful when it came to making a decision for choosing a polish color from the five different ones that I had. There were just so many pretty colors! She also drew some cute flowers on my big toes, and it amazed me how she made those dots into pretty flowers. I had an ingrown nail that was bothering me, but she took care of that very well. She made me feel very welcomed and she did a great job! Overall, I enjoyed my first visit to Joy Nails, and this certainly wont be my last! Im very thankful to have received that gift certificate from my friend. I highly recommend this place. Went here with 5 friends. did some research ahead of time. It is very clean and pleasant environment. All the ladies were pleased with my choice. They were very professional. They even were able to imitate a design on one of myfriends based on what she got at home so toes and fingers matched perfectly. It was with out a doubt the best pedi-mani experience I have ever had. I wish they were in my home town. I would highly reccomend them to people traveling in Galvaston. My friends were also very impressed with the salons attention to detail and professional staff and we had 6 different people that took care of us for wax, threading, mani and pedis. I am from Dallas and visited Galveston over Labor Day weekend for a family vacation. I chose Joy nails based on the excellent reviews and I am glad I did. It is an outstanding place to get pampered. The reviews are correct, the salon is absolutely emaculate and spotless. The service is also 5 star along with very reasonable pricing. Everyone we encountered was a "Joy". Great place! I've tried other nail salons on the island and this is by far the best. Very clean, attentive, thorough, relaxing. My mom and I got the $45 upgraded pedicure which includes sea salt scrub, paraffin wax, hot stone foot massage, mask, hot towel wrap, and more. It was wonderful. Here's a fun tip: Joy Nails opens at 9am. So this worked out perfectly for a Saturday morning pedicure. Helen gives a great massage. You can park in the Dental office spots on Saturdays. read more
