Caroline gets me straight every time. You have to be clear in what you want, communication is everything. Here's what I mean...if you want your eyebrows threaded and you want a clean up vs shaping, make sure you specifically say that. I learned the hard way. I went in wanting my eyebrows "done". That's all I said and I left with an entire shape up. I wasn't happy but to her defense, I wasn't clear. Now when I go I specifically say cleanup and by the end we're both happy. January 3, 2020 Their original location on 61st is closed on Sunday's but the owner, Caroline is a work beast...thank goodness and fills in here to give most of her staff the day off. Saw her today after a YEAR long absence...yep, I had abandoned ship...I had been going to the nail salon near Target and my usual tech there had gotten sloppy, money hungry and doesn't chit chat with you...after a year you'd like some conversation, no?! The service was personable, plus the view of the ocean was an extra bonus. I love sitting in the massage chair, as I was being pampered. The lady who did my pedicure took her time massaging my feet and legs with sugar scrub, tangerine, lotion, hot stones, as well as put the hot towels there. It felt really relaxing. I came in for a mani/pedi. There was one woman working and 3 customers total. I'm lucky I went first, because the other two customers just sat in the massage chairs without even any water in the bowls for the entirety of my appointment. I got a gel pedicure in 15 minutes. If you know anything about pedicures, you'd know it should not take that little time. My nail tech did not take her time on a single step of the pedicure. I could have done better at home. I even paid for an upgraded sugar scrub. She just smeared it on my legs and immediately wiped it off. Not to mention she made my toe bleed. After the pedicure, I told her I didn't want a manicure anymore, I paid, and left. I went 3 minutes down the road to KT Nails & wow. SO much better- just go there. read more

So yesterday, I just finished a long tattoo session on one of my clients, I wanted to treat myself to a pedicure. Immediately after, I did my research and I ended up picking Joy Nails II on the seawall in Galveston. It was one of the few close ones to me. I arrived and there were no cars, so I was thinking to myself, "alright I will be able to walk in today for sure." It is always a tense moment entering a new nail salon for the first time. I just moved to Galveston almost a year ago so I wanted to find my nail lady or at least a salon. I walked in and there was one lady tending to a client and a couple workers sitting back. I had previously typed on my phone: I want a pedi: white polish no cut, just file. And me having a long day, I was hoping to decompress, get my feet soaked for a bit, maybe get offered a drink, something. So first thing when I walked in, all eyes were on me. Only person smiling at me was the client. I put one of my hand up to greet everyone. The woman in the back who was available was wearing a mask so I obviously could not try to read lips. I could see her brows starting to scrunch up and her mask popping fast like a speaker. I pointed at my feet and showed her my phone. She was so mad I made her read because I realized she couldn't understand English which is TOTALLY fine. It happens. She then aggressively pointed at the direction she wanted me to move and after I did, she grabbed my phone from my hand and gave it to the client so she could sound it out for her. After she sounded it out she swatted at me to go away and move over to another chair and mind you, there are like 10 chairs there and she got frustrated and started waving her hands all wild. I sat down, she didn't do any water, sprayed alcohol on my feet and I wasn't even sitting there 5 mins and she was done. She didn't do a bad job but she finished, put the foam shoes on me and rushed me to get up, I was trying to get up and she was acting like I was taking my time. Hah. I almost wanted to laugh because, what. the hell. is this. I got up finally and I started to waddle to the register. She charged me $14 which is fine but I was prepared to pay 30 or something for a full service but honestly I wanted out of there. I paid and left. I still had wet toes so I just turned my ac for the lower part of my seat and thankfully my car had that so I was able to get it dry before I got home. Got my acrylic done 5 days ago by day 4 nails started popping off and went in multiple times to fix the nails that keep coming off. Today 12/21/22 2 more nails came off and yesterday another 2 came off. I honestly don't think they are doing the application process correctly because you're not supposed to dip the brush in monomer and put that on top of the primer before you put the color powder on the nail but hey, I'm not a nail tech or nothing so how am I supposed to know? Came in to get my eyebrows threaded.. The room was nasty, the blanket on the bed looked like it had never been cleaned... I had dip on my nails from a while ago that was starting to chip. I asked while I was in there if they could please SOAK my nails to get the dip off. The lady, Tammy, took some cuticle pliers and just started to rip the dip right off my nails... everyone that gets dipping powder on their nails knows that you are supposed to soak it in acetone and lightly drill it off. It hurt so bad and when I told her not to do that she said "they're lifting up anyways". My nails are so thin now and look awful. I have never left a nail salon more upset! I could write a really long review but I'll keep it short and say if anyone is wanting " dipping " powder , there is evidently only one person there that can do this. They did not tell me this on the phone when I made an appointment and specifically told the guy I wanted a full set w dipping powder. When I arrived they tried to talk me into Shellac and I said no after that it all went downhill. They had attitudes and talked about me in their language.. It was rude and made me uncomfortable. My nail stylist was coughing the whole time, yeah she had a face mask but it made me very uncomfortable, I got my nails done on 5/18/2020 and today on 5/20/2020 it broke off and half of my nail came off. I called to just simply ask for my money back because I did spend 43$ on them and they refuse because "they don't do refunds" which is ridiculous for only having them for two days, I tried to be nice about the situation and just simply getting my money back but not offering a refund is ridiculous especially since I can't go get them repaired because it took half my nail off.
