I've been a customer of this refillery since 2020, starting with their original location down the street, and have consistently supported the business and its mission. That's what made this experience especially disappointing. I no longer live nearby, so when I'm in the neighborhood I sometimes bring partially used or half-filled containers to refill--something that has never been an issue in the past and is consistent with how refilleries typically operate. During my most recent visit, however, the service I received was unprofessional and deeply uncomfortable. The staff member who assisted us said her name was Carly (not sure if that was accurate). She is a tall white woman with glasses and a brown, slightly curly bob haircut. From the start, she made repeated presumptions--first questioning whether my partner and I were together (we are a biracial couple), and then repeatedly challenging whether our containers were actually half-full even after we provided the weights. Her tone was accusatory rather than curious, and it felt like we were being treated with suspicion rather than respect. As a longtime customer, this interaction felt biased, presumptuous, and frankly degrading. I left feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, which is the opposite of what I expect from a community-oriented, values-driven business. I hope ownership takes this feedback seriously and provides additional training around customer interactions, bias awareness, and how to handle questions without making customers feel interrogated or judged. I want to continue supporting businesses like this--but experiences like this make that difficult. read more

This place is great but I have to admit it is expensive. A normal 30 oz bottle of dish soap (the cheaper option of dish soap, too) for $6 feels excessive. Haven't gotten to try too much in here due to the prices. I wish they hadn't changed the rewards system bc now it feels almost impossible to earn any sort of discount. The new rewards system is: spend $250 and receive 10% off which is just a very poor ratio for rewards. I appreciate this store and all they do for the community but it is certainly a privilege to be able to regularly shop here that many cannot afford. read more

This place is awesome. Unfortunately, they aren't open right now but you can order many of the things they sell online for pickup and they offer contactless pickup. You can also order items online for delivery. I buy drops dishwasher and laundry pods and dish soap there. Before the pandemic, you could bring your own containers to buy many bulk personal care and cleaning products but now they just provide them without plastic. They also have shampoo bars, cleaning brushes, stasher bags, and many other products that replace conventional products that use single-use plastics. read more

The new location has so much new stuff! Joyfill has a nice selection of soaps and other eco friendly/ reusable products. Bring in your own jar and you can refill it with a variety of body washes, dish soap, laundry soap, etc. Waste not! My favorite are their handmade soaps. Generally I just walk around and shop by smell. Win-win for me as the hubby likes them and they make my bathroom smell great. read more

So glad this place exists. Refill places often have products that are more eco-friendly and/or have more expensive ingredients than the big name, mass-produced stuff, so prices are higher per ounce. But I found Joy Fill's prices to be lower than some other similar stores. And when I compare the price to the expensive high-end salon shampoo I'd previously used, it was pretty reasonable. I like that it's self-serve and that I can bring my own containers to refill. I brought my salon shampoo bottle (after cleaning it) and filled it just partially so that I can try out the shampoo before committing to a big refill of it. They've got some package-free bar soap and shampoo, too. There seemed to be a wide variety of laundry and kitchen supplies--I'll be back when I need those. Bring your own container, buy a new one here, or grab a (cleaned) used container from the bin on the floor. They also have some interesting items like a collapsible travel mug; I left with one of those too. Then there are deodorant creams (husband filled a jar with that), vegan floss, beeswax alternatives to plastic wrap, and more. I really like the variety they offer. I also like their recycling bins. They currently (it changes) take razor products, dental products, and bottle caps for recycling. I checked online before I went, so I was able to bring some hard-to-recycle things from home to divert from the garbage. read more

I have been going to Joy Fill for a little over 2 years I think. This place is so great. One of my big things I wanted when I read the 2018 climate report was to cut my personal plastic intake down by a lot. I had been using canvas grocery bags and became vegetarian a few years before but I needed to do more. This store is such an inspiration to keep that momentum going. The staff are always super friendly and helpful and they have so many options of home products that will help you cut down your daily and weekly plastic usage. I've been wanting to be more zero waste at home and was so happy to find out this business just opened in the Highlands! They have cleaners, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and even dishwasher gel! If you don't have your own container, they also sell bottles/containers. I love that they carry Dr. Bronner's brand and some other familiar eco-friendly brands. They have a small selection of stainless steel straws, bentos, make-up, and produce bags and deodorant. Today I was able to fill up on some glass/surface cleaner and dishwasher gel as well as some additional "unpaper" towels love the customer service and entire store! I really really wanted to like this place, which technically I do, but they need to improve the products. The dishwasher liquid leaves a film over everything, we have tried everything from doing an extra rinse, putting in more, putting in less... no matter what, there is a white film. The more expensive countertop cleaner leaves a chalky feeling on the counter when you swipe your hand over. We also tried the bathroom cleaner and if you use a rag there are visible white streaks. I really want to use less plastic and find products that are convenient to refill, but at this time the only thing that I have found that works as it should there is the dish soap. LOVE this place! Filled shampoo and conditioner bottles maybe 6 months ago, and came back yesterday to refill again. Not only can you refill your individual bottle but many of the suppliers are also working with them to rotate the larger container back to the factory for refill generating zero consumer waste. Items for refill are expensive, costing more per ounce for some refill than buying w/ container at regular store. I want to refill to reduce waste by reusing containers, but I don't think it should cost more. Lots of cute items, but I wish there were more USA products that are sustainable. I am so excited about Joy Fill! They have a good selection of containers for sale. The selection is everything you need to cut down on plastic use and the soaps/cleaners are biodegradable. Genius! Instead of recycling or throwing away your empty bottles and containers from things like laundry soap, shampoo, cleaning supplies etc. I like to come here and REFILL my empties with natural soaps and products. And it's so much more than bulk products - I also found and array of personal care items like toothpaste (my fav thing), face wash and toner, bath bombs and even re-usable straws! So cool I highly recommend checking it out - and If you don't have an empty container they have nice re-usable containers for purchase as well! read more
