I have been a long-time client while growing up in Denver. I moved to the Carolinas where I continued to order products to be shipped. Once the change of "management" occurred, so did the superior level of customer service. I placed an order on August 25, 2024. I called Sept. 1st to see if I'd be able to find out shipping information. I was told that they couldn't see my order because they didn't have access to a particular platform. This was weird because he (Agunde-spelling may be wrong), could see that I did pay for product and the specific amount. He kept blaming it all on Ron (the previous owner), but assured me that he had what I needed in stock, would get everything shipped out no later than Wednesday, Sept. 4th, and would call me back to confirm that it had been shipped. As of today, 9/6/24, I hadn't received a call so I contacted Akente Express and was informed that I would need to pick it up. I assured him that this wouldn't be a possibility. He said that he'd have to first see if he had what I needed in stock and I'd have to wait about another week to hopefully receive it (days before confirming that he had everything in stock). I requested a "rush shipment" but was told it would cost him $40 and he didn't want to pay it. He said he had to get off the phone because he had customers to help!!! The conversation got worse when I just requested a refund and was met with a click! I'm saddened that this is what Akente Express has become. read more

So happy I have finally come into this store. Beautiful black and everything you need! Oil herbs incense textiles and much more! Black calendars and decorations. Just so many beautiful things. Excellent book selections. If you need things to heal your body and as well as natural leaves from tropical trees here you go! Hundreds of name brand oils to choose from like Tom Ford, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace ect...! You could literally spend two hours finding everything that you like, which is a good thing. The owner is very personable & will help you find scents if needed. There's also plenty of shea butter and other natural products to choose from along with handmade African-esque jewelry. I began trying a few things here & there. Finding out that ALL OF THEY'RE Products are NATURAL. & hand made. I have never been disappointed nor displeased with anything I've invested in from this shop. I Usually go over my budget when I shop here ( It is however WELL WORTH IT ). I'd heard about this business for a number of years, but never sought it out until my mother came to vist in 2009. She was in need of Carol's Daughter products after the TSA made her get rid of products in her carry-on that were over 3 oz. (my mom doesn't travel often and never paid any attention to the security rules). As she was searching out replacement products, it turned out this store carried the line of products. The store is located on Park Avenue West near downtown. There is a strip of rowhomes, maybe 3 or 4 that are occupied by businesses. When you approach the doorway for Akente Express, it is hard to tell if the shop was open or not. The light looked dim when peering into the door, so much so, we thought it was closed, but we tried the door and it was open and there were customers inside. Inside, there is a plethora of African artifacts: from jewelry, fabric, African art, knickknacks, hair and body supplies, perfumes, etc. If you are looking or custom blended perfumes or shea butter products, that can all be found downstairs. Upstairs, there is poster art, as well as paintings and African drawings and fabric. The store is a wonderful resource that I am happy to have finally made it. Since my initial visit in 2009, I've gone back a couple of times. read more

Love this place. The oil selection is huge and the owner is friendly and helpful. Have bought some mudcloth here in the past and wanted to make some clothing - and the owner suggested a tailor in the metro area (who was from an African country, the name of which escapes me). Clothing came out beautifully. Have purchased wood carvings, jewelry and some framed prints here. If you're a lover of African art and decor, this is the place to go. The first time I went there, the shop was bigger, but the downsizing of the space did not alter the selection of product. I am still able get my oils, greeting cards, wood carved masks/sculptures and jewelry there! This makes me happy! :) read more

My boyfriend has very dry skin and has not been taking very good care of his skin, so I did him a favor and drove all the way down to Denver to Akente Express so I could get him the Whip Ash. The gentleman who owns this shop is delightful and very sweet. He is knowledgeable of all the products and I enjoy talking to him a lot. The whip ash works perfect for many skin types. After a few days of putting the whip ash on my dry boyfriend, his skin has become a lot smoother. So thank you Akente Express. read more

I can't say enough about this place. The customer service was amazing. I usually go to natural stores like this one to buy incense, essential oils and just to soak up the general ambiance. This place literally has everything For starters their incense 5$ for roughly 100 sticks in a variety of scents is way cheaper than any other store around. (New customers get a free 5$ package of incense) There is a variety of jewelry that is really unique and reasonably priced. Ankhs on Ankhs on Ankhs... they also carry great body butters that can combat this dry Colorado weather. They have some natural hair oils that smell great too. Also shout out to the man that took the time to painstakingly craft my own oil blend which I get compliments on every time I wear it. I used to frequent this business but I will no longer shop here because my hard earned dollars and loyalty as a customer is no longer accepted at Akente Express. I had a very bad experience with the owner, Ron. I called in an order for several oils---small bottles for myself and a friend to pick up later that day and was told "No way Jose! It will not be ready. No can do." That afternoon, we decided to stop by just to get a small bottle of oil or two and was told by the owner that he couldn't help us today. "He was busy. I will call you when I can pour your oils". There were only a couple of people in there and they were not in line. I asked if he was opened for business and he said yes. We asked if we could get just a couple of oils and he said no. I called the next day and was told it was not ready and he would contact me once it was. His projection was the next day. I called the next day and the order still wasn't fulfilled. The owner stated he tasked someone to prepare my order that day and he would call as soon as it was ready. The call never came. This continued for a couple of days and so we called again and he said the order was not fulfilled and the conversation ended. We decided to call the owner back to simply cancel the order and he hung up on us. read more
