The quintessential plant shop I've been looking for. Denver has a lot of great botanical shops but it doesn't have a ton of true plant shops. I've been to my share of "plant shops" that are more gift shop or extremely over priced but PLANTED is truly just plants and plenty of them! Luke is a cool guy and very knowledgeable about plants, full of advice! As someone without a green thumb this is the resource I needed!

I only recently discovered this neighborhood gem. Better late than never! Although the virus limited my shopping, Luke was extremely hands on and helpful. I ended up with a very healthy 6" peperomia polybotyra. If they don't have what you're looking for, just ask and your name will be on the list for their lookout! Highly recommend Planted!

Luke was so great at helping me pick out a succulent garden for my friends birthday. I don't live in Denver and so wish I could have stepped into the shop because the online gallery looks amazing. I described my friend and how much I wanted to spend and the resulting garden was perfect! She loved it so much, thank you Luke.

I had an awesome experience with Planted! I wanted to send a succulent planter to a friend who recently moved to Denver. The owner took my order based on my price range and hand delivered it to her apartment on her birthday. It was a healthy set of three succulents in a beautiful black ceramic vase. My friend loved it!! Thank you so much for such an awesome experience!!

Cute and modern plants and planters. A bit on the pricey side as we bought a small 6x6" planter and one air plant for $58. Comparable to planters you can find online at West Elm and CB2.

Love this design!

I stopped in on a whim and loved my visit. There are artistically designed planters and floral arrangements. Luke, the owner, is incredibly knowledgeable and made buying new plants for our house really easy. He mentioned they also deliver so I'll be keeping this in mind next time I need to send flowers. If you're expecting a huge commercial style nursery or flower shop this isn't it.

Love our new mother in law's tongue and pot!

The Cactus Man - Our owner, Kelly Grummons with our hardy cactus introduction 'Snow Leopard'

The Cactus Man

I was looking for some plants for the south side of my house in Golden, CO. My new xeriscape had…read morereplaced all my sod with rock. I wanted to add some interest so that I wouldn't have just rock everywhere, but this south side of the house has no drip line. Perhaps some cacti and other southwestern plants would be appropriate? I made my way down to the local nursery and found this cute potato cactus. Rather than the typical plastic stick with planting instructions, the plastic stick found in the little plant casing said www.coldhardycactus.com. I went to this website to see how to plant and care for this cutie, and lo and behold--an entire cactus website run out of a location right down the road in Lakewood, Colorado! They sell quite a variety of cacti, yucca, agave, all the southwestern plants you might find in a desert environment, carefully studied and developed to be cold hardy for Colorado. I promptly scheduled an in-person tour of the plants, which you can do online. When I arrived, Kelly, a horticulturalist, showed me around the yard and greenhouses and told me about all the plants that he grows. He knows absolutely everything about them, and loves to convey his knowledge about their origination, hybridizations, and ability to withstand our environs in planting zones 4, 5, 6, etc. My house resides in zone 5. Based on Kelly's guidance and my own taste in plants, I walked away with a combination of cacti and succulents; from your traditional spiny cacti to beautiful flowering gentle varieties with smoother paddles. With my brown thumb, and the little 1.5-2" pots, I was wary about their outcome. However, you can see below the pictures that I took in May, 2025. They survived beautifully, and in fact are thriving! I have to admit that the succulents did not make it through the winter. I suspect I did not provide enough water for them after planting, or maybe the site just isn't right, but I couldn't be more happy and proud of the many cacti that are happy in my yard. In one year, some have at least doubled in size! I recently paid Kelly another visit this fall, and purchased some yuccas and agaves this time to fill in some holes in my landscape. I have some pictures below of these babies. I'm excited about the prospect of a southwestern cactus garden in my south yard! If you have want to add a little bit of interest to your yard with an unusual touch, or even just want to create an indoor cactus/succulent arrangement, I highly highly recommend visiting ColdHardyCactus.com. If you live in the Denver metro area you can pick them up from Kelly, but he also ships them anywhere.

The sizes- from compact to huge. The colors- non-blooming to show-stoppers. The knowledge- zones, growth, care. The prices- incredibly affordable for such rarity! I live in Austin, TX which is nearly perfect for all types of cacti, but we do experience the occasional freeze (like this week ), but these cacti are one less worry I have when protecting all my cold-tender plants. I planted my selections around November and they had plenty of time to root since we stay pretty warm until January. Excited to see what the spring holds for new growth and I'll certainly be adding to my in-ground collections!
