Hubby picked up donuts on Saturday morning. By the time we usually get to their location, they are either sold out already or only have a few options left. This time, he got there a little earlier and was able to pick the ones we really wanted. By latest 11am, they are usually gone (it's a food truck). Super yummy fresh donuts. A friend of mine told me about this place a while back, but I never thought it would really be worth a hour and a half drive just for donuts. I thought, "it's a food truck... I'll just wait for them to come to me." Well... I finally caved and got tired of waiting. First off, I'm not a morning person... so the whole "donuts and coffee" at 8am isn't my thing. I was not too thrilled about having to wake up at 6am just to be able to get to try the flavors I wanted before they were all sold out. (FYI: You can order ahead online, but that option can sell out fast too) Also, I'll take a bad yeast donut over a good cake donut any day. Those extravagant Voodoo doughnuts over at Universal are no match for a plain old Krispy Kreme donut straight off the conveyer belt in my humble opinion. This food truck is all cake donuts, so I was a bit skeptical. I'm happy to say, these donuts are insanely good. There were 22 flavors available, and we ordered them all. The most popular, "frosted crack" and "maple bacon", were definitely 2 of my favorites. Simple flavors, yet so delicious. The "French Toast" and the "Cookie Butter" were also high up on my list of must-tries. Even something as conventional as the "chocolate with sprinkles" was friggin amazing. I'm pretty sure it all had to do with the fact that none of these felt like the typical cake donut you would find at Dunkin Donuts. They were way more light and airy than usual. It was almost a mix between a yeast donut and a cake donut, and they were tremendous. It also might have to do with the fact that they were all just freshly made. That also makes a huge difference. What I like about this place is that they don't go overboard with toppings. They just let the flavors do the talking. They don't just throw crushed-up snickers bars, skittles, and whole Oreos on top for the hell of it. They keep it more traditional, and I like that. Makes them way easier to eat as well. The people in the truck themselves are very friendly. The guy that helped us seemed really proud of his product, as he should be. They even have complimentary Starbucks coffee for people as they waited. With a long line at 8 in the morning, it was very much appreciated. Overall, this small and unassuming food truck in the middle of a dirt lot in Mt. Dora ended up having some of the best donuts I've ever tried. Tons of flavors, yet a simplistic theme runs through all of them... flavor. Every bite feels like it's worth the carbs, and I love that. They look great, and taste even better. My only negative about this place is that it's not closer... but that's just me being selfish. read more

Was looking in yelp for the closest non-chain donuts to my place, and man (!) how could I be so lucky!?! They're set up on 441 in MT Dora on weekends, which was super convenient since I try to ride there Saturdays. She opens up around 8 and was almost out when I got there around 10. She says she makes them all that morning and they should be fresh for several days. I'm not sure if they'll ever last "several" days in my house, as I bought a half dozen and there are 2 left. OMG I whipped in this parking lot when I saw it was ONLY 4 ppl in line bc usually it's always a line almost to the highway. My cousin always raves about how they sell out every weekend! Before I could hop out my SUV 4 ppl Had pulled up and ran in Lime lol. The line moves fast! I told them I was a first timer and wasn't sure. The owners were very sweet and helped me decide based on my preferences. I decided to get "Joy's Mix which an assortment of the fan favorites or best sellers! I also got a 1/2 dozen of ones I think my family and I would like. When I tell u these donuts melted in my mouth!! The donut is light, fresh, and moist! I just tried the FROSTED CRACK and it lives up to its name! I also tried a piece of the strawberry dip with sprinkles, Maple Bacon, Glazed, and Cinnabun!! They just keep getting better. Woke up early on a Saturday just to snag a dozen donuts! It's worth it! These are the best donuts I've had in central Florida- dare I say even better than the beloved Donut King. Customer service was great and even with a line we were in and out so efficiently! Our favorite donuts were the pumpkin cream cheese, blueberry dip, and fruity pebbles. Least favorite was the funky monkey (chocolate icing with banana cream), but it's just not a flavor combo I am often a fan of. Make sure you get there early, but no need to stress. By 8:45 they started selling out of some varieties. There is also a pre order option as well. I will definitely be back and can't wait to see what fun seasonal donuts are next!! read more

Decided to pull over today after seeing some pink on the side of the road. So happy i did! As a heavy donut consumer I wasn't sure which one to pick... they had some pumpkin glaze just in time for October! !!! Um yum! It was late in the afternoon, so I asked which ones they had left. (My very first time checking out this business). They said a mixed dozen. So what the heck, i got a random dozen (13$) and am i pleased i did! !! They even gave me a couple extra, probably because it was the end of their day. You tend to just want a massive donut but these are perfectly sized, so you can have two and still feel okay. So reasonably priced and I believe the community should definitely support small business such as these. It seems they have seasonal donuts so I guess I'll need to stop by again! I can't stop thinking about these donuts! I never really liked cake donuts, but after trying these I fell in love. The maple bacon and frosted crack are definitely my favorites, followed by the blueberry glazed and their salted caramel. I love how creative Shane and Jen are with their donuts, always keeping us on our toes for those seasonal flavors. The best cake donuts ever!! We got up at 5:30am so we could meet up with a friend and make it to the food truck by the time they opened at 8am. My boyfriend Tom was so excited about these donuts that he decided to order one of every single flavor they had available, which was a whopping 22 donuts! In the end we didn't even get to try all of them, we were too stuffed! But we did get to try a good number and the maple bacon was amazing! It's one of their most popular donuts and I can really see why. In general their donuts are fantastic, they are cake donuts but they don't have that really dense texture that I've come to expect from cake donuts, they were light and fluffy and perfect! I had heard of these famous donuts in Mt Dora and while on a weekend trip, decided to splurge and see what the hype was about. These were worth the hype! I've tried a lot of the donut places in Central Fl and I do think Joy beats all of them. The flavors were great, the donuts themselves were moist and delicious. They are definitely worth checking out. I pre-ordered so pick up was easy. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that I ordered a variety of their flavors and I wish they would have included a "cheat sheet" or some explanation - some of the flavors I picked did not appear to be in the box and so I wasn't quite sure what everything was. After a few months of seeing the lines at this cart, finally decided to stop and see what the fuss was about. I wish I had better news to report. The doughnuts were ok... above grocery store doughnuts but not anywhere close to the mom & pop style I've come to expect from northeastern doughnut shops. I was also displeased with the service provided, when I was told they will accept credit cards if I buy a dozen, but not if I only buy a half dozen. This was, of course, after I had already waited in line and my 1/2 dozen doughnuts were in the box being handed to me. The cashier pointed to the fine print on one of the many signs on the side of the truck... I didn't know I needed to read the fine print on a food truck. Since I had my nephew and he was excited for doughnuts, I reluctantly said to charge me for a dozen then. He asked, "do you want a dozen?" I said "no, but you appear to have given me no choice." I was forced into buying 12 when we only wanted 6. In this day and age, electronic commerce is a must for your business - or it will die. You can't pick and choose which products work with and without it, either. It's all or nothing, and if you have a problem with the fees, you take it to your merchant bank - not burden your customers. With that, I will not recommend Joy Donuts until they fix this ridiculous problem. read more

They are the traditional cake type that topped, not filled. This makes them easy to serve to the masses in line. A dozen of these beauties were heavy in the box. They are so sweet that about half of one is good for me. We all liked them but they are not my all time favorite (yes, still Donut King in Minneola). Love these donuts almost as much as I love the service. I pick up donuts every now and then for my coworkers and I love how I can order online a day or a few days before.
