Stopped by Donut King of Leesburg on a recent trip to Leesburg and it was such a fun local find! The shop has a huge variety of donuts -- everything from classic glazed to creative flavors like apple fritters and Boston cream -- and the selection is seriously impressive. Locals clearly love it, and you can see why with all the fresh baked goods on display. The donuts were fresh and flavorful, and you can tell they really take pride in their offerings. A dozen donuts here is also amazingly affordable compared to the big chains, which made it even better. We grabbed a mix of cake donuts, filled donuts, and some fun specialty pieces -- all of them hit the spot! Service was friendly and quick, and even though there was a line out the door when we showed up, it moved fast -- worth the short wait for fresh donuts. We were visiting my boyfriend's parents down in Florida and they know we love sweets. They had picked up a few donuts from this place to have the next morning for breakfast. His mother apologized in advance saying she picked them up a couple days ago....they were amazing! There were still super fresh (I think she kept them in the fridge and took them out to come to room temperature before we got up). They were huge, and fresh, and just amazing. We had a bite of each of them. The one that stood out the most was the cronut like donut. It looked like it was going to be overly sweet and just too much. But it was perfect. Somehow light and fluffy but dense enough to be a donut. Before we left to go back home his mom wanted to take us to get one for the flight home. By this time we were kind of sugared out, but of course wanted to oblige. When we walked in I never saw so much of a selection. Thankfully when we got there initially we were the only ones there. It was so overwhelming with all of the options. The employee was very pleasant and very patient with us...lol. We finally just picked some basics; a chocolate frosted with sprinkles, and vanilla frosted with sprinkles and an old fashion sour cream. Once we were checking out a flood of people were coming in. It was national donut day so we had to try Donut King. Had heard good things but....really not good enough! Holy moley; this place was awesome! Choosing was a challenge. I asked which donut was the most popular. Boston creme was the answer. So I chose that and a "boring" glazed. The glazed was great but the Boston creme was phenomenal. Not stingy with the creme. I occasionally work in the area and vendors always bring doughnuts from this place. So I had extra time and wanted to actually go in their location. YALL I was shocked at all the variety of doughnuts they had to offer. I was like a kid in a candy store. But I only stuck to one. But I choose the one that had looked like it had two doughnuts lol. This in particular doughnut was 2.75. They had cheaper ones and more expensive ones that were classified as the specialty doughnuts The interior of the shop was not what I was expecting as the decor wasn't there but hey it's a doughnut shop. A great find. Tasty donuts as opposed to the ones at that chain that recently took " donuts" out of their name, where the items have shrunk ridiculously and have become unyummy. Still a very good selection at 1pm, not a bunch of empty bins. Easy to drive right by as the door is right out on the road, but the parking is along side. Worth turning around if you wing by it. Sooo, let me begin by saying, that I left a review 8 months ago about my great experience with Donut king. I am a middle school teacher and when my students push themselves and achieve their academic goals I reward them with donuts. Well since the hurricane week I have not had the opportunity to keep my promise to them until today. This morning I went to donut king as I have for 2 yrs now and requested 6 boxes of donuts. 3 boxes glaze and 3 variety. The young lady at the counter assisted me with no problems. After while the place begin to fill up as this is expected on Fridays. I sat and waited patiently for my order. The manager came from the back and asked the young lady who was working on my order who does this belong to as she pointed to the completed donut order on the counter. The girl pointed to me as a was sitting. The manager yelled at me infront of everyone and said ' Next time, you're supposed to call and put in your order bc I only do 4!!' Very mean and rude. I said to her Wow, I've never been informed this and as a matter of fact this policy is not on the website. So when I said to her, wow I've been coming here for 2 yrs no one has ever said this she yelled and cut me off and said ' I'm the manager now' !! I asked her why are you being so feisty with me? She ignored me and began helping other customers. I called and reported my encounter. I don't know how to feel. There were two other people who ordered 5 dozen donuts and 2 dozen donut holes. If you have bought donuts as long as I have in this life, you will sympathize when I say, boy, have they gotten expensive, or what? But then, so have most things. That said, I don't think Donut King is any pricier the other donut shops, and they certainly have large selection. They are loud, also. We bought a dozen and had a few when we enjoyed our morning coffee, but the stragglers left in the box were yelling out to us from then on. It can be hard to ignore a good donut calling you from the kitchen. We also bought an apple fritter the size of a dinner plate and ate it in two stages, warming it up for fifteen seconds in the microwave. We heard some things when we got into town and had to pick up a few dozen for the family. It's been a long time since I stopped in a Donut shop and saw a fully stocked wall of donuts. I was in the area for work and it was my last morning there so I promised my son I would bring him donuts home. We love to shop local and try new spots. Initially I went to another place but they were closed for the holiday weekend/week. So thankful that my map and Yelp lead me here. The parking lot is very small so that is something to keep in mind when planning a visit. I can see at peak donut times that would be cumbersome. Inside was small also but felt homely. The staff were friendly and helpful and even suggested some things to me that were her personal favorites. Only draw back is I think I was over charged but because of me being in a rush and being overwhelmed with the variety of things I didn't worry about it because I had an hour long drive back home I needed to get on the road and get to work. My personal favorite was the cherry and cream cheese twist. It was delicious and I wish I had gotten more of those. My son loved the donuts. The donuts with a ton of different toppings are the ones to get since they're so creative. Samoa Girl Scout Donut: Saw this in the Yelp photos of other Donut King locations and it looked really good. Asked for it at this location and they didn't have it, but could make it to order. So taking a coconut donut then dipping it in chocolate then drizzling with caramel, it turned out to be my favorite donut here! Apple Fritter: This was HUGE! Full of nice cinnamon swirls and flaky sugar glaze. Though it was a tad lacking in actual apple pieces. But still a great value. Triple Chocolate Donut: Chocolate frosting and loads of chocolate toppings on a regular donut. Was pretty tasty, great for chocolate lovers.
