My girlfriend and I are doing the Columbus pizza trail this year and Josie's Hilltop is on the list. For starter's the place was incredibly warm, like 85 degrees inside. Maybe we caught them on a warm spring day before they turned on their A/C? My first interaction with an employee was not great. She took our order, but was kind of rude and short with us. Maybe it was the heat. Anyway, we placed our order and sat in a booth while we waited for the pizza. The pizza came out faster than expected. However, the pizza was not great. When we were placing our order, I noticed racks and racks of pre-rolled pizza dough behind the counter. Maybe they were busy and preparing for a rush? Maybe that might explain the dry crust? The dough/crust made the pizza taste like it came from a box that was baked in a home oven. If they fix the crust the pizza would be totally fine, but man, that crust was not good. No disrespect to this place, maybe we caught them on an off day, but I wouldn't eat here again for free. read more

THIS is the kind of pizza I have been searching for in Columbus for years. A thin crust, but not the kind that turns into a soda cracker. It's still soft. Perfect sauce, not overwhelmed with garlic, and in just the right amount. Perfect amount of real, gooey cheese. Loaded with crispy pepperoni! You wouldn't think that would be so hard to do right, but oh, it is. They have it down. And they don't have to call it "artismal," because their mastery of the za speaks for load and clear with every bite. I imagine that's been the case since 1959. I stopped ordering out because I never liked what I got, despite trying several places. Now I can do so again because Josie's just hooked up with a delivery service, and I'm very happy. BTW, if you want your pepperoni on top, order "old fashioned" and specify pie cut if you want. read more

I have been wanting to try Josie's Pizza Hilltop for a long time and finally got to have it. Ordered the Garlic Bread with Cheese and Sauce with a Garden Salad with Marzetti's Dijon Honey Mustard dressing. The salad was great with the dressing. The Garlic Bread with Cheese was the cheesiest garlic they have ever seen along with the most pepperoni on the Old Fashion Pepperoni pizza. I had the Combination pizza with Pepperoni, Sausage, Green Peppers, mushrooms, and onions; but did not see the Pepperoni and Sausage. Overall the Pizzas were delicious and worth going back to Josie's again soon. The service was great and talked with 1-2 employees about couples coming to Josie's Pizza Hilltop as a Sunday night tradition. It is a small place but with some seats, but there is a table that can accommodate 12 people to a table that can be used for a birthday party or family gathering. I will go back to Josie's Pizza Hilltop soon for the Old Fashion Pepperoni pizza. read more

Very disappointed in the people that work here, especially the manager was incredibly rude to my elderly mother. She just had called to check on when my pizza would be delivered because it had been almost an hour. The manager calls to scream at her saying the order would be canceled. Josie's pizza does takeout, dine in or even delivery to select locations. The pizza is a thin crust with a mild sweet sauce. You choose the toppings Josie's is not shy about putting them on. Side note, most of the meats and other toppings tend to be under the cheese, which is amazing! Ask for the large/family salad and a soda of choice and your meal is complete. I am such a pizza snob. Everyone talks about their favorite pizza and sometimes I wonder what they like or what they're looking for in pizza. Since I'm a newbie in the neighborhood it was recommended that I try Josie's and I did. Cannot say anything really bad about it. We used order and pick up and I think they do delivery and they have eat in space. I'm just not a fan. I just didn't like the cheese at all and their pepperoni was for me specifically not enjoyable. So I'm sure that I am in a minority on reviews for Josie's but I can't find anything that's really negative or anything that's really positive so I go with three stars. read more

I always love it when I can update reviews for the better! Josie's has become a staple to our pizza needs in the Hilltop/Westgate area. I'm actually quite happy I gave this place another chance, then another, and then found myself as a repeat customer. Not certain if they got some new hands on deck, but the product is much better. I ask for light on the sauce now, which also really helps. Another odd request is that I ask the pizza to be 'Pie cut' and I and the owner will swear that it just helps make the pizza much for enjoyable. Perhaps the square cut just doesn't work well with consistency on this pizza. I don't know.... MAGIC! Anyways, something else I really have to recommend are the wings here. At first you expect pretty mediocre product and yes, they're plain breaded and they're not sauce covered like many expect, but they are strangely addictive. The people who take the orders are also really personable. They're never brash, or rude, which sometimes is a rarity when it comes to over the phone orders for a lot of places. I'm so happy I can up the stars for Josie's. They are definitely my favorite local pizza in the hood. read more

I hate to change my review from last time but my experience yesterday was not that great. The reason why they still get two stars is they were friendly. I give one star because after the Red White and Boom parade, my wife and I left before the fireworks due to rain and stopped by here for a pizza. We ordered a large pepperoni and cheese. We sat and talked and about 12 minutes later the lady said our pizza is done, handed us the pizza box and we grabbed it and left. We got home without checking on it and we had to of got some other persons order. It was double cheese, onion and hamburger. The pizza was very nasty and I was extremely tired to return it. We enjoyed our pizzas! We got a small old fashioned and a large cheese. We asked for both crusts to be well-done, and they were delicious! Next time, I think we're going to try the crust normally just to see the difference. We picked up the pizzas on a Friday night and they were ready very quickly even though they were busy. They also had cans, bottles, and 2-liters of pop if you're looking for a last-minute drink to go with your meal. I'm glad to have a neighborhood pizza shop so close to our home! read more

Josie's Pizza is a west side icon. I've never tried the Franklinton location but the Westgate site has been around for decades. Like a lot of pizza shops, restaurants and diners, a lot depends upon what you order (and how). Order a pepperoni pizza and the uninitiated would open the box and think there has been a mistake. Where's the pepperoni? For some reason I've never figured out, both Josie's and Joseppi's put it under the cheese. This makes for a sloppy pizza with sauce and rendered orange pepperoni grease in a layer like tomato flavored magma. The result is a pie that never feels quite done enough. But if you love a great pepperoni pizza Columbus style (yes, C-bus has its own unique style and is cut in squares just to make people from NY lose their minds), you're in the right place. You just need some guidance. Skip the regular pepperoni and order the"Old fashioned." Then tell them you want it baked well done. The old fashioned means the pepperoni are the nickel-sized discs that are placed in their proper place on top of the cheese, and then baked until the edges cup and darken and the crust underneath crunches when you bite in. Boom! Now you're eating pizza like they made it here in 1959. It's best piping hot so either eat it in or be there to meet your pizza the second it is born from the 500 degree oven. What about having it delivered, you say? Those who have pizza delivered are obviously more interested in convenience than pizza quality. To you Philistines I say save your money and order Papa John's. Enjoy! read more

Extremely disappointed only half the pizza had cheese and the other half and off on the foil they smooshed on top. The cheeseburger for my nephew which ordered plain came with slimy lettuce, tomato a ton of onion and pickles that felt like plastic. We order from here at least 3 times a week and I'm afraid to say this will be the last time since I have forgiven previous snafus but this was drawing the line for me. They don't use gloves as required by the health department, they smoke in the kitchen every chance they get. They also don't Wash, Rinse, and sanitize the dishes per health department code. There is more leaning than cleaning. This business almost shut down June 2014 due to poor management. read more

When I called and ordered an Italian sub and had it delivered I was not given any dressing, when I called to explain that I hadn't got my dressing they explained to me that I would have to pay extra for it. My sister managed the Josie's that was located in new Rome and said that's not the stores policy. I was also told it was meat that made it an Italian sub. Anytime I've ever ordered an Italian sub from any restaurant, the dressing was not extra. I'll never order from these crooks again. read more
