She was extremely nervous about the appointment and was visibly shaking when Dr. Lough entered the room. Rather than helping put her at ease, the interaction felt cold and dismissive from the start. When I explained her anxiety, his response came across as sarcastic rather than reassuring. Throughout the visit, I felt that both my concerns and my daughter's concerns were minimized. When I shared observations about her symptoms and experiences from speaking with other parents, I was told that I was "saying a lot of right things, but also a lot of wrong things." The comment felt unnecessarily condescending and immediately shut down what should have been a collaborative discussion. The examination itself was very brief. Dr. Lough noted that my daughter has large tonsils and suggested that she may simply need to "grow into them." While I understand that surgery is not always the appropriate solution, I was hoping for a more thorough discussion about possible causes, treatment options, next steps, or what symptoms we should continue monitoring. Instead, I left feeling as though our concerns were dismissed. What disappointed me most was the lack of bedside manner. Medical expertise is important, but so is communication, especially when working with children who are already anxious about a medical appointment. My daughter commented on the way she was treated as soon as we got back to the car, which reinforced my own concerns about the interaction. I want to be clear that my review is specifically regarding my experience with Dr. Lough and not the office staff. Overall I did not care for the establishment. Unfortunately, based on our experience with this provider, I would not recommend him to families seeking a compassionate, patient-centered approach.

Dr. Lough met me in pre-op prior to each procedure to address any concerns I had and contacted my wife immediately after the procedure to confirm that the surgery has gone smoothly. Follow-up was thorough and the results were exactly what I was told to expect. The front office staff was friendly and efficient. Dr. Lough is fast, efficient, diligent and well respected by the surgical staff at Renown. If you need an ENT look no further.

Earlier this week, I had the misfortune of interacting with Dr. Sciascia in one of the Emergency Rooms (ER) associated with Renown Medical Center. I have never come into contact with such a rude, condescending, and offensive health care provider. I should note that I, too, am a doctor and Federal Law Enforcement Officer, so I deal with difficult personalities on a daily basis. I would also like to note that I would never treat any of my patients, no matter who they are or what they've done, the way Dr. Sciascia treated me. This is unacceptable, and I intend on bringing this to the attention of anyone who may come into contact with this physician, someone who should not be allowed to treat patients. When I went to the ER, I was two days post-op, and in a considerable amount of pain. As I previously mentioned, I was unlucky to have Dr. Sciascia pick up my case. From the first moment I met him, there was something odd about his demeanor and he had the worst bedside demeanor I have ever witnessed. My friend that accompanied me to the ER said the exact thing, and she actually picked up on this vibe before I did. As an aside, all of the nurses were flabbergasted by my account of what occurred during my interactions with Dr. Sciascia. Long story short, Dr. Sciascia essentially accused me of drug-seeking, and told me that he didn't believe that I was actually experiencing pain, despite being 2 days postop. Dr. Sciascia was literally trying to instigate an argument with me, which I refused to engage in. He compared to me heroin addicts, which I am not, as well as misusing my pain medication, which I did not. Dr. Sciascia then compared me to other patients he has seen with "broken bones sticking" sticking out of their skin and that they refused to take any medication at all. First of all, I dislike being compared to other people, especially when their injuries are not even close to what my surgery or pain entailed. As a man, Dr. Sciascia does not know how painful certain 'female conditions' can be, so it is extremely rude to dismiss as if it meant nothing. Dr. Sciascia invalidated the pain I was experiencing, and I refuse to let anyone treat or speak to me in such a manner. Prior to being released from the ER, he informed me that I was going to be prescribed Gabapentin, a drug with which I am familiar. Gabapentin, also known as Neurontin, is a medication used for neuropathic pain, not postoperative pain. I asked Dr. Sciascia how that would be helpful in my situation, and he literally said, "I don't know." My friend advocated for me by asking for something that actually helped me, and he switched it to a muscle relaxant, which I refuse to take. I am unfamiliar with that medication, and I have lost trust in doctors in Renown's ER. More than one nurse I came into contact with during my several hour stint in the ER informed me that Dr. Sciascia "has a really weird demeanor...[and] has no bedside manner." They said more, but I hope you get where I am coming from. I will be taking this to the medical board of NV, as well as any site on which a review can be posted. Dr. Sciascia caused more harm than good, as I was extremely upset when leaving the ER, and I was still in pain. Given that I have only had one experience with Dr. Sciascia, I cannot comment on his overall competence as an ER Physician, and it would be unethical of me to do so. I can only speak to my personal experience with Dr. Sciascia, which was so horrific that I will never return to that ER for fear of coming into contact with him again. I am writing this review in hopes that others will read this and steer clear of Dr. Sciascia, if at all possible. If you want to be treated like a human being, find another doctor. Further, as a doctor myself (not an MD), I am a strong advocate for those who may not have the knowledge, access, or resources to go up against a physician. This is NOT over. Thank you for reading.

We were so frustrated, however I am glad that Dr. Sciascia (pronounced "Sha-sha") was able to treat him. Although the ER was incredibly busy that day, Dr. Sciascia made an effort to find the root of the problem without pushing him to have unnecessary medications, labs, etc. He suggested some over the counter meds we could purchase, gave us a prescription, and referred him to an allergist. Most importantly, he took the time to answer all of our questions and check on him before we left. It was the most efficient and caring ER visit we had. Plus, he's hilarious and super personable. After 5 yrs of not seeing Dr. West we call his office to schedule a appt. for the wife and they schedule, take her in for an initial visit, reschedule her for a second visit to go over the tests from the first visit. My wife takes time off work to go to the Appt. only to be asked back in the billing office and told unless she pays a back payment from 2007 of $347 they will not be seeing her today. They apparently sent us to collections in 07' yet we did not get any bills or collection notices from them, we offer to make payments on it and they refuse saying it was not there acct. anymore contact the collection agency. On top of which in 2008 with heavy economic pressures and lack of work we filed chp 7 and all collection debt was discharged. I know they have the right to see who they want, but they could have told us in advance that this was an issue before scheduling the appt. and or called us to let us know they would not be seeing my wife so she did not have to take time off work only to be told go away. This kind of office management only brings down the great work Dr. West does with his patients.

He explained the procedure and answered all of my questions. As an adult, the tonsillectomy recovery was painful, but Dr. West prepared me for that and prescribed adequate pain medication. I've also had a nasal turbinate reduction procedure (somnoplasty) to address my chronic sinus infections. Again, Dr. West answered all of my questions and provided excellent care. Dr. West continues to provide superb ENT treatment and is at the top of his field. I highly recommend him.

He is a resource and a calm voice of guidance and action with difficult health issues. I can thank him for the ability to hear after suffering from an undiagnosed mastoiditis infection. I had suffered from dozens of ear infections throughout my life, but two years ago, this one felt different. I had been treated by my primary care doctor and had even gone to urgent care when vertigo, hearing loss, and pain increased despite treatment. Dr. Hudson's receptionist got me in for an appointment quickly. After a brief exam, interview, and in-office CT scan, I was diagnosed with a mastoid infection and scheduled for a surgical procedure. Three weeks into the infection, with conventional antibiotics not effective, I had a 50 decibel differential between ears (one infected, one not). My hearing was not restored after the surgery and took months to return and heal. It was a scary time but I knew everything had been done to ensure my best chance of recovery. Without Dr. Hudson's intervention I am certain I would have suffered permanent hearing damage and progression of the infection. Dr. Hudson has managed complex and challenging conditions for my loved ones, each condition requiring a different set of skills and knowledge. Not only does Dr. Hudson have outstanding technical skill and uses innovative yet scientifically grounded approaches to all ENT conditions, he genuinely cares for his patients.
