I can bake a better cake than this. Why does this bakery use corn syrup instead of sugar? Cheap ingredients equals a poor excuse for an expensive cake. Definitely not worth the money…read more We ordered over the phone and email for our Bachelorette weekend and were promised the airbrushed buttercream photo that we sent in. The fondant version is what we got complete with mis-spelling and child like painted on details. After notifying Kelly that we were not happy with the presentation she proceeded to text a bunch of photos of cakes she's done that turned out great, incessantly defending her sub-par work. She blamed the extreme heat for inability to complete as ordered, they tried putting it in the freezer to keep it cold but just too hot out. She said she would have directed us differently as far as type of cake decor if she had known the weather would be so hot- we ordered this cake far in advance and the the heat wave was anticipated days before we arrived. It really just seems like the type of detail we wanted was not something this bakery is capable of doing. We had the cake delivered to the house before we got there which was super convenient. Only got concerned with this after Kelly told us to make sure to lock our doors at night since we were in a "bad" neighborhood. Since the bakery had the code to our doors and she was texting this late at night, this comment was received as threatening and we became concerned for our safety. The customer service and service recovery is something this bakery really needs to work on, we will NEVER be working with them again. Only positives... She did acknowledge that the order looked very rushed and gave us 10% refund. The cake tasted great, but just not worth the money in my opinion.

I don't have food allergies and I constantly find myself picking them over other options at Atmology or Whole Foods. I love any sort of spice or fruit cake situation and Joanna always has some great choices like carrot cake and 'nana bread with just the right amount of rich creamy icing. Seriously, I know they have their fans but I will fight you tooth and nail on this, those are just not good.) This isn't a matter of a great alternative for those with an unfortunate allergy.
