We typically order cakes from a different bakery that is a little further of a drive or I make…read morecakes myself for special occasions. So for the sake of convenience (I also recently had hand surgery), we thought we'd give Sweet Thing Bakery a try for my son's 3rd birthday cake. It's safe to say, this will be our new go-to! The cake was just like the picture I gave as an example and it was absolutely delicious. Everyone at the party raved over it. A baker myself, I'm pretty picky about cakes. This one was incredibly moist and the frosting had much more of a buttery taste than that of other bakeries; especially grocery store bakeries whose frostings taste mostly of shortening. Their prices are very reasonable as well. Just a tip--if you want to order a cake for a special occasion, they require that you do it at least 2 weeks in advance!

I am deeply disheartened and honestly ashamed by a business policy requiring all service animals to…read morewear vests. That is not an ADA requirement, and there is no official vest, registration, or certification required for a legitimate service animal in the United States. Under the ADA, businesses cannot require proof of documentation, demand certification papers, or refuse entry simply because a service animal is not vested. A service animal handler also cannot legally be asked to leave unless the animal is out of control or causing a disturbance that the handler does not correct. The only questions staff are permitted to ask are: 1. Is the animal required because of a disability? 2. What work or task has the animal been trained to perform? Policies rooted in misinformation create unnecessary humiliation and barriers for disabled individuals who already face enough challenges in public spaces. Businesses should take the time to properly educate their staff on ADA laws instead of enforcing requirements that simply do not exist.

I was recommended Shop Springs Creamery from my DMV agent and I'm so thankful she did!…read more Though Shop Springs is quite a drive from us (roughly 25 minutes), it was totally worth the nice Sunday drive out to the countryside to enjoy real, freshly made ice cream. Parking is simple, you just find a spot on the gravel. There is a drive thru if you prefer to stay in your car. There's a bench out front or picnic benches under the awning across from the shop. I had 2 scoops in a bowl (they have waffle cones but no waffle bowls) and chose the birthday cake and Cookie Monster flavors. Both were exceptional. The ice cream is very thick and has a good amount of sweetness. I really loved the scenery here, it's cozy and reminds me of my grandparent's old house in the country. There's open pasture and you can see the cows. This is a great place for anyone, especially families!
