I have been a patient of Doctor Joseph Peck for more than twenty years. He is truly one of the very best doctors that I've ever dealt with. He is very strong and definitely does not waste time but he is incredibly knowledgeable, kind compassionate and caring. Unfortunately I have struggled with chronic headaches for many years and Doctor Peck has gone out of his way to research and try many different methods of dealing with the pain. He's definitely not someone who just pushes medication but he also seems to genuinely care about you and your quality of life. His staff is great as well. This specialist is located next to the manhattan village shopping center in a cute hidden medical plaza. This little plaza has its own separate parking from the shopping area, and his office is located on the second floor not too far from the elevator. I went to see him because I suffer from chronic pain due to a fall I sustained. When I told him my symptoms he took it very seriously. He did a thorough exam, and because of where my pain was located he ordered an MRI. No other doctor would do this. They just told me I needed to have my tailbone removed, and to me to take Tylenol and that I was ok for work. I was not ok for work. Because of him, I was able to have a real diagnosis and the appropriate treatment. After doing an injection and it not working, he advised I needed more, and he was right. I was referred to an arthroscopic hip surgeon. I had the surgery I needed just three weeks ago, and I am working towards recovery now. I am very thankful to him, his understanding staff, and his PA Allegra (I think that was her name, I am bad at names) for helping me with my struggles with poor doctors and bad insurance. They pushed for me, and here I am writing this review today. I look forward to hiking, concerts, and working again (when I recover) because they went the extra mile. I think if you sustain a work injury or any injury for that matter come to Dr. Peck. He will examine you and offer advice before doing any unnecessary treatments, and he will do everything he can to minimize your pain just like he did for me. read more

Overall, Dr Peck is a good doctor but their time management with appointments sucks. There should be no reason to wait 35 mins to be seen when you are actually early/on time for that appt. -- it's inconsiderate to think folks have all day and no job or other appts to attend to. I share this review in hopes of helping others avoid the same experience I had. I moved to Hermosa in '18 and had never visited a pain dr before. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2012 by 2 doctors and had been managing my pain day to day without medication with the help of a rheumatologist. I'm unsure if the move caused the change but for close to a month I was mostly in bed with what felt like a flareup combined with extreme pain in my joints. I decided to see a pain doctor and selected Dr. Peck based on Yelp reviews because I still didn't have a GP in CA. I waited over 45 minutes past my appt time to come in for my first appointment. Others in the waiting room shared this was common practice. His intake nurse seemed to not understand what fibro widespread pain is, and insisted I point to each part of my body that hurt. My husband intervened after I explained 3x about widespread pain and pointed to each joint and muscle. When Dr. Peck came in he challenged the fibromyalgia diagnosis immediately. He displayed a horrible bedside manner and in hindsight, I can see I tolerated his behavior only because I was desperate for a doctor to help me get some relief. We had provided all the medical information requested by his office and I had seen multiple neurologists and rheumatologist in 2012, so for him to challenge their diagnoses (along with their tests including biopsies and MRIs) now seems ridiculous. I really believe that he couldn't see past my fat body to think anything was really wrong. He said he wouldn't treat me for fibro unless I saw HIS preferred rheumatologist to confirm the diagnosis. He also ordered xrays of my knees, back, and hips. He walked out and we didn't even know the appointment was over until the nurse came to take us to check out. After we checked out I couldn't hold back the tears because I felt so dismissed, and when we walked out we asked to see him again. He came out after a while and I asked him if he was willing to help me or if I should find another doctor. I explained I wasn't looking for drugs but wanted to feel some sense of normalcy and get some part of my life back and I couldn't do it with this level of pain, so I needed to work with a doctor willing to help me and see past whatever biases they had. He seemed uncomfortable- guessing bc I had tears rolling down my face- an said that IF it was fibro there were lots of things we could do to manage the pain and that I should follow up on his requests. He gave me some sense of hope but I think it was only because he didn't want me to cause a scene or something. I couldn't get an appt with his preferred dr for months but instead got an appt with someone in her offer weeks after- and Dr. Peck's office said this would suffice. The rheumatologist ordered some blood tests which ruled out other rheumatological illnesses (all had been done before btw by my previous dr) and then said I could have fibro or not, there was no way to know. He seemed like a lovely person but didn't even perform the pressure point test which is a basic standard diagnosing tool for the disease. My husband and I couldn't believe Peck would insist on this assessment as if this dr was some sort of expert. All it did was prolong the time I was suffering in pain with no real medical care. When I went back for my second apt with Peck, I learned I was actually meeting his Medical Assitant (not sure of her title), Allegra. I asked Olga (front desk) why my appointment had been changed without letting me know and she said it was the way his office was run, but that Allegra was great because HER DAD was a doctor. I don't need to explain why this is not a reassuring thing to say to a patient. I saw Allegra- she was polite, knowledgeable and aloof. She said the xrays confirmed issues with my knee and hip, and that they needed an MRI of my back based on the xray. When I asked for help with the pain I was instructed to purchase some hemp/cbd capsules they sold at the front. At this point, I'm months in and this is the solution I'm given! The appointment was rushed and after waiting for this I felt I got no answer and no relief or empathy to help ease the pain. I then waited for them to get clearance to schedule the MRI for my back. Several weeks passed. I called several times and I was told each time they were waiting for my insurance to approve the MRI. While this was going on I made an appointment with the Mayo clinic (out of state), waited months, went there for 3 weeks, and got my fibro diagnosis confirmed amongst other tests. Months later after several follow-ups, I was finally able to do my back MRI. According to his office, it took MONTHS for my insurance to clear the MRI approval but I know this is not accurate unless they dropped the ball. MRI was 7 months ago and still no call with results. I got them from the hospital and moved on. My tip is to avoid this office at all cost. read more

I was under his care for three years, and he never could remember certain blood clotting issues, that kept me from being able to receive certain procedures that he continues to push on patients. He also couldn't remember what dose of medicine I was taking, or why. I lost my temper with him when after being unable to stand and calling him for four days requesting to get me an MRI set up, .Duriing these days, I was repeatedly being told by his staff that. he was given messages to help me, so we could find out what was going on, until I was able to catch him on his after hours number and he said he never got any message from them. I told him that he couldn't even run a Jack n the Box properly and he told me to find another doctor to help me.and couldn't help me find a surgeon for two more than two years. The man is a complete liar. I called him recently to try and apologize, and was given an appointment with his physician's assistant Dr John on Tuesday 4/12/22 at 9AM. I was half way there in horrible pain, when I received a call saying that Dr.John D, had an emergency situation and that I would have to wait until Thursday 4/14/22,& see Peck instead at 9AM. When I got there, he straight lied again as he usually does, and told me that he wouldn't see me and that I shouldn't have been scheduled even, and tried telling me that he was using a new answering service, that he just got rid of and that was why I was given an appointment with him. This was another lie, because both time's this week, I spoke with staff of his that I knew personally from the few prior years with him, and both of them knew exactly who I was and I even apologized for losing my temper due to pain and both of them accepted my sincere apologies. Both his office manager, and the nice girl that handles you when you leave and sets up your next visit, is who I spoke with, and Peck the little pompus liar that he is , wasn't even MAN ENOUGH TO TELL THE TRUTH TO ME, once again. Beware of this conserved, liar who is such a little bitch, that he will repeatedly lie to your face,like it's second nature too him. It's sad when a grown man is too scared to be honest with people, especially when I was trying to be humble and apologize for the fact that he repeatedly lied to me in 2019 and said he never got a message from any of his staff, while I was stuck in bed due to another herniated disc pressing on my nerves. I'm now have a quadruple fusion surgery in order to get my ability to walk again and he can only lie repeatedly like a cheating bitch or a child that wasn't raised well enough to know not to lie. It's sad when so called professional s like himself, can't even have enough integrity to speak the truth. His staff and manager even apologized for his actions this time and Olga, the office manager hugged me and told me sorry for his lies and wasting my time while I was in so much pain. I give Dr. Peck's office and staff (especially Shannon) 5 stars. My boyfriend and my father are not the easiest patients to have. One is work comp for his back and the other is in pain management for his knees and shoulders. Dr. Peck's office always follows through on my requests. I find it easy to get an appointment for both my dad and my boyfriend, even with all the covid going on they are still able to get in and and see the doctor fairly quick. Dr. Peck has awesome bed side manner and has helped my dad get back his quality of life. He works on cars and needs to bend a lot and use his arms. With out Dr. Peck my dad would still be in pain and depressed sitting on my couch. I recommend the doctor to everyone I know. read more

Dr. Peck is an experienced pain management physician and surgeon, whom I have often seen at a prior location. I visited his office for a simple injection that turned into a serious waste of my time for strange reasons. First, the requested patient forms with map guide that the office neglected to mail.Therefore, late arriving to the new location (No GPS!). Next, on the phone, staff couldn't direct me to the (very distinctive and dedicated) building for quick recognition. Then, the time-consuming 12 page forms with detailed history, reviewed by 2 different intake specialists, who preferred to ask me for the same information. . A full hour later, Dr. Peck did a quick examination, but declined to give me the simple injection I needed for a tendinitis problem. (Yes, a recurring problem if it gets aggravated, treated simply by others without issue.) His reason: lack of staff and Ultrasound equipment. I noted 7 staff present. No electronic equipment in an updated office in a new building? Hard to believe. Or maybe Dr. Peck wasn't comfortable giving me a simple injection close to the sciatica nerve that others have done without hesitation. Very simple for an experienced pain management physician. Suggest that you visit this office for more serious pain management requiring a surgical facility. That way, Dr. Peck will have the staff and the Ultrasound equipment to treat you properly. Dr. Peck save my life!! Let me start off by saying that not all doctors care and are attentive to their patients concerns or ailments such as Dr. Peck. They're a few out there and hard to find. Dr. Peck is one of a kind. I came to Dr. Peck after having had L4-L5 Lumbar surgery which prior to I had no quality of life and was in constant debilitating pain. I was being treated under a spine specialist who also performed the surgery and after the operation I was still having a substantial amount of pain. Dr. Peck always listens to me and my concerns, he asks questions, he cares about his patients and is always very engaged with every appointment we have. About a month ago my pain was horrendous! Dr. Peck ordered and referred me to have another MRI done and because he did that we were able to find out that my disk re-herniated. Out of all the other doctor's care that am under, he's the only one that sent the referral and took a step further to investigate my situation and find a solution. He goes the extra mile most doctors won't!! I'm still being treated under Dr. Peck and I'm truly thankful to him and Shannon (the office manager) who've made my life a lot easier and bearable given the pain and situation that I find myself in. Honestly, I don't know where I would be without Dr. Peck and Shannon. I know that whether it be an epidural or having another surgery which was recommended, that I'm going to be in the best of hands in this office!! You need not to look no further. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for exceptional medical care and need pain relief. I have had an injury for over three years I have been dealing with. After numerous doctors visits, physical therapy and even acupuncture - Dr Peck is the only one who has been able to help reduce my pain. This is the second time I have come here for treatment. If I could give a negative star I would! The office staff is not friendly at all!!!! They over book and could care less about patients time and needs! Waiting an hour before even getting in a room is a joke. I had printed my papers online ahead of time as they requested, so there's no need for that! And then you wait again inside a room. This doctor has zero beside manners, he spent maybe 5 minutes my first visit in and didn't even bother to introduce himself! Didn't listen to or answer my concerns, talked over me and quickly just said he would prescribe a cream and to go get a new brace and come back later - despite me being in tears due to pain and requesting new x-rays of my injury that clearly was getting worse. The he walked out mid sentence, & the staff said ohhh he's just so busy! I never got the prescription that was supposed to be handled through his office, despite calling several times over the several weeks following to today's follow up, that I should've never come to! So today here we go again, 45 min wait so far and I hear the nurse telling three people they're ahead of me.. I asked for a refund of my copay and walked out! The best! My pain was gone immediately when I woke up from a perfect epidural. Dr. Peck is professional and does not cut corners. I left my last Dr. (Bradley) because I could not ask a one-second question. I wanted to find out from Dr. Bradley why he was now doing epidurals in his office. A few years ago he performed them in a hospital setting. I had other quick questions I wanted to know. He refused to give me any time to discuss my severe medical issues. This was not the same Dr. Bradley that I once knew. I can't have a doctor that I cannot talk to briefly about my health. I decided that perhaps he was getting too busy. He wrote my prescriptions and told me he would see me in 30 days. I told him I would not be back. I found Dr. Peck performed epidurals in a hospital surgery setting. I received immediate pain relief. Dr. Peck and his staff were professional and kind. Dr. Peck answered all my questions. I never asked Dr. Peck for medication and he never offered any. I saw him so I could get an epidural in a hospital like setting by an expert Dr. This Dr. is the best in town. I would recommend him to all suffering from excruciating pain. read more

I would NOT recommend Dr. Joseph Peck. I selected him based on his specialty, but as a new patient was very disappointed. I will not go back. He and his staff were unprofessional and unresponsive to my basic needs as a patient. Dr. Joseph Peck had no interest in understanding my pain issues. He was more interested in getting me on an appointment schedule - clearly for his profit. His staff had the nerve to ask me to call in my own authorizations because they were too busy. I witnessed them floundering with paperwork and with other patients. I witnessed his staff treating an elderly women poorly in the waiting area by making her wait well past her appointment time while she was in obvious pain and then spoke to her disrespectfully when she spoke up. Dr Peck has been my pain medication doctor for over two years. His office staff is incredibly friendly & always willing to help should a problem ever arise. Dr Peck has an amazing PA, Allegra, who always listens & never makes me feel rushed during my appointment. Both Dr Peck & Allegra have worked with me over the years to help me find the proper medication that really helps with the severe, constant pain I have been left with due to complications from previous incompetent doctors who had no sympathy for the pain their surgical mistakes left me to deal with on my own. I will keep it straight and simple...the office staff is extremely shady! I brought my mom here since she got referred through her primary doctor to see Dr. Peck. The staff was very unprofessional when we checked in the first time, they keep chit chatting with each other and they took their sweet time to acknowledge incoming patients. On the follow up appointment, they didn't have all the MRI results that they were supposed to have ready by the time of the appointment and they had us wait for a while before they could get them. Last but not least to make it worse, they charged us $15 fee to fill out a handicapped DMV extension that my mom needed due to her illness. Is this place serious? No other provider has charged us any fee to fill out this simple form. On top of charging us a fee, the office person took over 30 mins to hand over the form because he didn't have a clue on how to fill it out. Also no one informed us ahead of time about the fee until right before handing the form over. Extremely shady and unethical if you ask me. Will definitely not recommend anyone coming here. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Peck for 3 years due to extreme chronic back pain that refers down my left leg. He has been very helpful and kind. He is extremely busy but does take the time to answer questions and think about different options. He doesn't give up but continually tries different methods to reduce chronic pain. The experience I had with this office was just bad and long. I went for my knee pain in early Jan. 2017. The copay was paid on the day of the visit. Three months later, they sent me invoice with full amount saying his office does not have a contract with my insurance company. (They confirmed on my first visit they have a contract with my insurance company and took $8 copay. If I had to pay cash out of my pocket, I would not have gone to this office.) After my negotiation with my insurance company, the insurance company agreed to pay the full amount for the visit. Later date, I called Dr. Peck's office saying my insurance company already paid to the office and I e-mailed the office payment reference number. I spoke with the office manager couple times over the phone mentioning to her that insurance company already paid and please check your end. Two months later, I received "FINAL NOTICE" with full amount on it. I called the insurance company and they reconfirmed that the payment was cashed on June 16, 2017. My insurance company says they will call the office and straighten this out. My frustration is that despite talking with the office manager several times about this payment being paid and sending payment confirmation via e-mail. It looks like she did not check with billing department nor my insurance company. Meanwhile, I kept getting invoices with full amount on them. This is my first time commenting on Yelp about my review on any service. I wrote this as experience dealing with this office was so bad. I am very sorry to say that their invoice accuracy and customer service needs improvement. read more

Dr Peck is fantastic. I've got a chronic back issue and he listens well, treats me like a person and provides options, treatments and suggestions with sympathy and pragmatism. So many docs treat patients like they can't understand their conditions and aren't worth the time to educate. Peck is the opposite of that - straight forward, informative and extremely thorough.
