The staff were nice and the doctor was okay but the one thing that really killed me was this. Coastal Ortho is an orthopedic surgery office. Many of their patients are there for knee or hip surgeries, right? So why are their tables so dang high and why do they not have the right kind of x-ray machine to handle patients who can't stand for a knee x-ray? It seems the person who set up the office was more concerned about interior design than practicality lol. read more

We go for knee and back; we've had pool PT and dry PT. Doctors are great and therapists are fantastic... BUT front desk... not sure what their issues are, maybe they're unhappy or smtg... they don't smile, they're not nice, they're not kind, they don't really want to help you, they just want to check you in or out and be done with you. I'm sure they're good at what they do, but kindness and compassion go a long way. We've dealt with about 7 of them, and none have been nice. Only the staff at the pool building are kind and compassionate. read more

I've consulted doctors at Coastal Ortho for over 10 yrs ( before they were called Coastal Ortho. Now they're part of the Ceda Sinai). First the good:I've seen Doctors Halikis, McGovern, Huber and Park. They're all good doctors but only Dr. Park combines his expertise with empathy and a great bedside manner. I recommend him highly. I also like that they have their own MRI facility on the same property. It makes MRI scheduling very convenient for a quicker diagnosis. Now the not so good: it's difficult to get appointments. Most of the time the wait times to see the doctor are long even if you arrive early or on time for your appointment. Then, once you do see the doctor, you better talk fast and get to the point because you only have about 5 minutes. The last time I was there about 3 mos. ago I had to wait almost 90 minutes. I thought they had forgotten about me and then my time with the doctor was super quick. He seemed tired and I didn't feel like he was listening. Chatting with other patients in the waiting room, I found that others had similar experiences. Years ago, they were better. Over time, it's become more impersonal and you're treated like you're being processed through a factory. Not the way you want to feel when you're in pain and need care. You don't feel "care" here. read more

I had to wait forever. I can't stand this place. The Dr. said he had an emergency, but none of the staff told me that. I also had to go to the El Segundo office instead of Torrance. Just disappointing all around. I'm looking for a new Dr. Knee still hurts. read more

I have seen Dr. Stephenson a couple of times this year (injury prone), and he has made each visit very calming and reassuring. You will feel like he cares about you the whole way through. I had an elbow injury, a tennis elbow on the other side, and a rotator cuff tear. I like how he does not suggest surgery immediately and seems to want to see if the body can heal through his suggestions. I am extremely happy and will tell you that he is one of the best in South Bay. I am very confident that you will have the same experience. read more

While I'm unable to attend many appointments with my mom for her knee and back issues (as I now live in Texas), my mom always shares how genuine Leslie is in her care. She provides extra comfort, attentiveness, and compassion, which means a lot to us. I have enjoyed the services of Coastal Ortho for years. I recently called the practice TWICE - once on Friday July 1st and today 7/5/22 @ 10:35AM. On both occasions, I waited on hold to book an appointment over 10 minutes and no one ever answered my call. I also tried using your text message system to book an appointment and never received any options for an appointment. Imagine being in pain, calling your physician's office for an appointment and being placed on endless hold. That is an awful scenario. I will be communicating my frustration to the practice which referred me. read more

After five years with Coastal Ortho, I am sad to say that I am leaving the practice as a regular patient. The front office and particularly Rosie, Dr Flemming's personal secretary are very rude and anything but accommodating. They have lost their mission of helping people, have zero empathy and are unable to schedule a simple injection outside of a 30-45 day lead time, even when the patient is in tremendous pain. I hope others read this review and find another practice where they are met with kindness, empathy and professionalism. read more

This place is way to busy. It's run more like a business than a doctors office. I had to wait almost a month to get an appointment. Once I showed up for my appointment they said my appointment needed to be rescheduled because the dr was in surgery and that they tried to get ahold of me. I made an appointment for the next week. A few hrs before the next appointment, I got a call that the dr was in surgery and would be late and if I wanted to reschedule and that I could wait but I still had to show up on time or they would cancel my appointment. I kept the appointment and said I would wait. I didn't have to wait long but once I got into the observation room, the nurse(?) said the dr was running late and only had time to discuss one thing and that I needed to schedule another appointment to discuss any thing else. I have joint/tendon issues in several locations. The nurse took X-rays of the one location, she did not use the lead shields to protect the groin area which is something I thought they always do. Anyway, once the dr came in, everything was rushed, of course the X-rays didn't show anything wrong since it only captures bone. Then he prescribed some high does pain killers and physical therapy without knowing what was wrong. So, I declined all of the above since this was just part of their business. Will find another dr that has time to listen to me, and does an MRI for soft tissue ailments. read more

I have been going to Dr Stephenson (Beach Cities Orthopaedics) for the last year for my shoulder and neck injuries as a result of a bike accident. He is very good, very thorough and patient. Although I have not needed him for surgery, his recommendations and treatment protocol seems to be on point. His staff are also very friendly and patient. The reason why Dr Stephenson only got 4 out of 5 stars (and frankly I would only give them 3.5 stars) is because I always end up waiting 45 minutes or more every time I visit. If they could master their scheduling of patients to keep my visit to less than an hour total, they would get 5 Stars. read more

If you ever find yourself in need of an orthopedic surgeon, look no further. My story, not an exciting one, I broke my collar bone riding a bike. First off, it was a terrible experience for me, I wasn't able to workout, ride a bike, shower appropriately, or tie my shoes. In short the experience made me appreciate the small things like being able to go to the gym or sleep in a bed comfortably. I met Dr. Stephenson who looked at my x-ray and was very optimistic and told me surgery or no surgery I would be ok. However, I decided on surgery because I did not want and restrictions and wanted to be back in the gym and working out ASAP. The surgery went well, I didn't remember a damn thing and I got a nerve block...I was cool for about 10 hours post surgery. The next 2 days were pretty uncomfortable, but i expected that. In short, Dr. Stephenson made super small incisions, installed a pin, and fixed my broken clavicle. It's been approximately 9 weeks since my surgery, I have full range of motion I'm back in the gym;however, not going to crazy but im.looko g forward to being 100% Dr. Stephenson is the type of guy you wouldn't mind having a beer with, bed side manner is outstanding, listens to your concerns, and is knowledgeable. If your in the southbay and find yourself in a bad spot needing and orthopedic doctor you won't regret it. His Manhattan Beach office is much better than the Torrance office. read more

Dr. Daniel Stephenson is nothing short of amazing!!! I must admit, Torrance Orthopedics front office needs help they are frequently over booked, crowded and rude. I had been going there for quite some time and would not have returned. However, since we really like and trust Dr. Stephenson, we followed him from Beach Cities Orthopedics to Torrance Ortho. We were originally referred to him by friends who also had a son in the high school football program who was injured. Dr. Stephenson is professional, attentive and really interacted well with my son during his injuries (yes multiple, broken collar bone, dislocated knees and subsequent knee surgery). Over the past few of years, Dr. Stephenson has performed surgery on my son's knee, my husband's knee (total knee replacement) and a partial knee replacement surgery on my brother in-law. Dr. Stephenson takes the time to not only review your test results with you, he shows you the MRI, x-ray, or other tests that were ordered and walks you through, explaining what you are looking at and making a recommendation. If you have other thoughts about treatment, he is open to your ideas and can speak to more holistic approach or less invasive treatments. He listens to all questions and concerns making you feel comfortable asking questions. He is very smart and does not make you feel like he is in a hurry to get to the next patient. I would recommend Dr. Daniel Stephenson to everyone/anyone who asks. He is the best. As long as you can handle the front office craziness at Torrance Ortho. read more

I have seen Dr Stephenson twice for my left ankle & he was great! He did surgery 2 1/2 years ago to fix 2 breaks & dislocation on an emergency basis, couldn't have been luckier to get a great surgeon on short notice. I just had surgery yesterday to get the hardware out from the last surgery & again he did a great job. His secretary, Adrienne Pea, couldn't be nicer & so efficient! Dr. Stephenson is a very approachable and knowledgeable orthopedic surgeon for sports injuries and total knee replacements. My friend went to him when he chipped the cartilage in his knee cap and Dr. Stephenson gave him transplanted cartilage... I didn't even know that was possible! My aunt has been seeing him for years and will be having her knee replaced by him next month. He uses the latest technology by taking an MRI before surgery and they have a computer make a mold of her knee so that the knee replacement comes out super straight. Sounds good to me! read more

With both rheumatoid and osteo arthritis, Dr. Stephenson has performed knee surgery as well as handled the multitude of problems that come through these illnesses. He is kind, compassionate, professional and always takes the time to listen. His staff is great, friend and helpful. Very disappointing experience. I am 24 years old have very debilitating lower back pain (almost positive it has to do with my discs) and went to see Dr. Stephenson to get a script for an MRI on my back.. I do believe a part of it is coming from a Hip problem but I kept telling him I want to make sure I get a picture of my lower back as well because of the weird pain. He writes a script to have an MRI on just my Hip, I ask him will it also get my back as well and he confirmed it would.. I talked to multiple people at different MRI centers and they said he would need to include the back and his script would not take a picture of the back. His secretary finally called me back after several days of trying to get him to rewrite it stating, "You have to do treatment and show physical therapy/medication in order to get an MRI on ur back".. Even though I had ZERO treatment on my HIP.. Such a waste of time so I will be taking my business elsewhere and finding a new Dr. who knows what they are doing... They refer you to hospitals they have contracts with FYI so they can get a cut.. Standard MRI would have been $1600 but I shopped around and found a close location with a price under $1000.... He seemed nice but his secretary was super rude and would be MIA a lot... I do not recommend going to Torrance Orthopedics unless you have a ton of money to shovel out on unnecessary physical therapy read more
