They have great surgeons attached to them, but the general support / re-hab staff are TERRIBLE. Preparing for post-op PT to be told last minute your program is delayed TWO WEEKS cos they have staff shortages - what?! My body ain't waiting on hold for two weeks, but they just didn't care. Run out of pain pills when in bad pain, then expect this lot to even do you the courtesy of returning your call? Forget it - they DO NOT CARE about patients. They have zero respect. This PT facility cannot keep its elevator working. This has happened several times. I saw Dr. Huber for my pre-op appointment almost 2 months ago. I've been trying to schedule my meniscus surgery ever since but his secretary never answers her phone and doesn't return my phone calls. Dr Stephenson is good and the staff are kind, but the waits here are terrible. You end up sitting in the waiting area for 30 minutes past your original appointment and then 30 more minutes in the smaller waiting room. It's ridiculously inefficient and frustrating. The folks in the front desk are also extremely unhappy and unhelpful. They seem totally unhappy working there and it shows. The Torrance office seems much more relaxed and happy. read more

I had poured heart and soul and hours into a previous 5-star review, which I've deleted. That review was premature. I agree with the other reviews that say Coastal Ortho is run more like a corporate HQ than a doctor's office. Two and a half months of physical therapy at Coastal Ortho, El Segundo and Torrance, had brought great hope and promise, which have been dashed, capped by an unfortunate text sent by mistake from the office. The lack of a standard and continuity of care has been jarring. I'm deeply disappointed in my former doctor, John Fleming, and physical therapist. I've also rarely met a doctor so unwilling or unable to answer basic questions outside of office visits, or billable time. I would have appreciated learning that my MRI results were normal sooner rather than later, in fact, two weeks later, at an office visit. My phone inquiries went ignored. Could the office visit be an option, rather than a requirement, for access to test results if normal? I previously overlooked the shortcomings of a therapy aide who nearly fell on top of me while focused on her own workout routine on a yoga ball as I lay on my back. Sometimes distracted, sometimes forgetful of the exercises that I needed to learn, she was the PT aide who assisted me most often. I tried to schedule appointments on Fridays to avoid her. Fridays were also calmer and more relaxing than the other hectic, boisterous three-ring circus days in the therapy gym, with little privacy to discuss medical details with the therapists. There were aides who had even greater difficulty establishing trust and clear communication. Exceptions were Bea, Adrienne, and Kacie. Patients are scheduled just 10 minutes apart or less, which results in extremely long wait times to see a doctor. I've seen patients arrive whose appointment times were 10 min before or after mine for the same doctor. I've waited 45 min to an hour for a 5-10 min visit. Staffing churn also led to a disruption in my treatment plan. I had to advocate for myself with the general manager more than once. I didn't want to write this...sigh...GM Carrie Killen did her best despite the limitations. Also, be prepared to pay for everything -- $15 for a copy of medical records, $20 for a CD of an MRI, etc. -- that other healthcare providers offer free of charge. The doctor treating me suggested that I take a picture of my MRI on his screen to avoid the fee. I declined since smartphones leak data like a sieve and are as private as Google's corporate intranet. Dr. Fleming likely missed a critical update that I flagged for his medical assistant at my final office visit. She typed her notes into my record and said that she would call the doctor's attention to it. He seemed to have been unaware of the update until contacted by the GM about it several weeks later following my email exchange with my physical therapist. He then abruptly reversed course, which upended my treatment plan, causing hardship and uncertainty. read more

The staff at Coastal Ortho was helpful and kind during my visit. The receptionist helped with delivery of paperwork to me and she picked it up. That was very helpful because I was on crutches. There was a bit of a wait to see Dr. Stephenson but I was a new patient so I expected that. The office is clean as calm. The doctor and his assistant were nice and knowledgeable. They listened to me. After five day, I finally received a cast for my fractured fibula. I was very happy that they had black for a color choice. I was in pain of course but the doctor and his assistants were very gentle while applying my cast. This visit was out of network for me but it was worth it. I was treated like a human being, I was treated for my injury. When I left, I was assisted by a very nice gentleman that worked there. It appeared that he was on his lunch break but he still took the time to help me. If you need orthopedic office, don't hesitate to call Coastal Ortho. read more

EDITED TO ADD: Just came back from the physical therapy studio they recommended to me. I was diagnosed with a chronic neck issue, NOT a rotator cuff issue like ortho stated. They did a very thorough exam on me for about 30 minutes, unlike his five with just pressure tests. Ridiculousness. To start, unlike at the Torrance office, the front desk staff here are incredibly RUDE. They act like you are inconveniencing them, when, say, you're returning the paperwork they asked you to fill out. They're dismissive on the phone as well. Also, I have checked in for appointments along with three other people at the same time to see the same doctor. So scheduling is a mess too like they're trying to cram as many people into one time slot as possible. This leads to wait times of 30 minutes+, which is ironic because they cancel your appointment if you are more than 15 minutes late. My favorite feature of this office is that "WE DON'T DO EMAIL." Like, period. No explanation until I spoke with my doctor's secretary who said "It's a violation" when I tried to get my PT order sent to me. Hey, there are a perfectly good variety of email encryption services that have allowed me to receive medical and other classified documents . Try that in 2023. Further, even if you're a current patient, it can take two months or more to get another appointment. This is not good when you're in pain. If you want to switch to another doctor with earlier availability you "have to start all over" from scratch. They informed me they have cancellations, but it would be up to me to call EVERY day to see if they could fit me in. I was also referred for physical therapy, which is provided in the office space. It took over two months for them to call me back after multiple messages until I finally left one saying that if I didn't get a call back I was going elsewhere. I was able to schedule the next day. "We're very busy." Then from the PT department, I was texted saying they had a cancellation the next day. Great! An hour before they texted me again to say my prescription had expired, which no one had ever told me PT RXs have an expiration date, and I couldn't come in that day. I asked my doctor's secretary for a new one and was told I had to come in again, though I continued with the chronic pain of the same injury. As mentioned above, this took two months to get in. At that appointment, I was referred to a private practice for my PT. At that same appointment I wasn't even examined, he just gave me a new prescription based on my still significant pain and the prior exam. I do not recommend this office. I have seen two doctors who were good, but the practices and staff of the office are an epic failure. read more

I had extreme shoulder pain, something my PCP diagnosed as an injury to my rotator cuff, but left me to find a specialist t have it further examined. After soliciting opinions in a local South Bay Facebook group and checking with my insurance, I settled on Dr McGovern and this office. I've injured a pinky toe that received more care than the quick 5 minutes of x-rays (??? - who takes x-rays of a muscle/tendon injury - ???), followed by a "visitation" by the doctor, who whirled in, asked how I was, asked where the pain was, didn't seem concerned that I couldn't raise my arm and jotted something down and said therapy all while looking like he was as late for a date. Life-changing. Over the past 3 years, I've had 2 injuries that impacted my daily life and physical activities. The first doctor's office I found told me to just live with it. Luckily, a coworker recommended I visit Dr. Park, who without hesitation said "We can fix this." Dr. Park never rushes my appointments. This is an extremely busy office, but Dr. Park will always clearly answer my barrage of questions, no matter how behind they are on appointment times. Most importantly, he does not jump to surgery - in fact, he makes every effort possible to avoid it. He makes his decisions based on data, so be prepared for some x-rays and MRIs depending on your injury. If there are multiple treatment options, he'll lay them all out for you, and leave it up to you to choose. All of the tests were clear in my case, so he sent me for physical therapy. The Physical Therapy team at Coastal Ortho is an amazing group of friendly, intelligent, and always-helpful individuals that work together like a well-oiled machine. At any given time there are patients in multiple states of treatment and exercise throughout the modern and open-air space, complete with sliding glass doors that open on nice days. Koa, Nick, Gus, Cara, and Anne Marie all became my support group, and I looked forward to seeing them twice a week. But the heart and soul of this whole operation is Andrew Clark. Not a single thing happens in this place without Andrew's observation. If he sees a patient has arrived extra early, he'll ask a team member to get them started until he is available. If someone is struggling with an exercise, he will show them how to do it properly, or find an alternate way to achieve the same end result. Most importantly, he listens to EVERYTHING you say, no matter how minor it may seem, and factors it into his plan personalized for you. He's always fully engaged with you for treatment and conversation about anything from the best cheese steaks to the latest sports news. I was assigned to Andrew after my first injury, and within 3 months, in the best shape of my life, with the tools and knowledge necessary to prevent it from ever happening again. When Dr. Park again recommended PT after my 2nd injury a year later, I specifically requested Andrew, despite his schedule being booked solid for 2 weeks. Trust me, he's worth the wait. With this being a relatively difficult injury to treat, he set realistic expectations with me from the start, and we agreed on a plan. 6 weeks later, I have made progress and am on my way to recovery once again. All of the day-to-day activities that I am able to do today without pain are only possible because of my time at Coastal Ortho. This time I was asked to move up my appointment by an hour but they never mentioned it would be at a different location, now they are shifting the blame on me, while making it sound like I should have known that as it it were obvious or public information, all in a patronizing tone. So far so good. I've only just switched over from Dr. Daniel Zinar. I needed a second opinion on a radial head fracture 4 weeks after injury. I called Coastal Ortho in the morning and they were able to fit me in with Dr. Huber. The front desk staff was friendly and understanding. They made me feel like they would do everything they could to help me feel better. I do appreciated this. It is not great when you are injured or sick and the staff here are saints. I did have to wait for a long time to see the doctor but it was worth it to be about to be seen the same day I called. The nurses and x-ray techs were so personable and offered tissues and water. Dr. Huber had an excellent bedside manner. He was kind and even keeled. He listened intently when I told him how the injury occurred, my treatment so far, current pain level and functional limitations. I was worried because I was still in a fair amount of pain with very little functional use of my arm. I needed guidance on what I should be doing with my arm at this point in the healing process, PT exercises and weight limit restrictions for lifting and such. I am very active and want to get back to 100% functional use ASAP. I am glad that I found Dr. Huber and would recommend him. There is a busy parking lot that is part of the complex on Maple. It can be difficult to find parking so give yourself a few extra minutes. Look for the rainbow colored building that says "Moose". read more

Overwhelmed, understaffed or incompetent... places like this are the reason people avoid PT and going to the doctor. front desk staff was very dismissive and condescending. There was a mix up between if I was a cash or insurance payment. They put me as a cash payment even though I have insurance and my primary and I vetted to make sure they accepted my insurance. Anyways, I just deposited a check that day when they called to tell me how much cash it would require. Check hadn't cleared my credit union yet so I offered to pay at my next appointment. They said it was fine until about five minutes later they said they were behind and wouldn't be able to see me without payment. I mentioned I had insurance and woman said she'd have to call and verify benefits and it was already late. I mentioned how it might take a while to get a new appointment. Then a few minutes later she said she can't verify my benefits only the help desk or billing could switch me from cash to insurance. Then someone else said they have to make you cash payment if this is related to an accident. That didn't make sense cause my doctor took the insurance and the doctor had referred me and double checked they took insurance. Point is nobody new what was going on. Nobody asked for insurance info. Nobody had any empathy for me suffering from back pain for three months since I had been referred. Nor did they care all the effort I took to get there. read more

Dr. Park and his staff are amazing. Not only are they friendly, they are caring. They truly care about helping you. They will go the extra route to see all options before surgery if necessary. I have 2 friends that have had surgery with Dr. Park and he did great work. They have nothing but kind things to say about their experience and care. I had a terrible sprain in my ankle almost unable to walk without crutches. Dr. Park and his staff got me into a medical boot. My insurance didn't cover me to get one from the office same day so Dr. Park recommended one on Amazon that was affordable and it did the job. In office I would easily check in and wait not even 5 minutes to be seen. It was great. I will be starting Physical Therapy soon and am well on my way to recovery thanks to Dr. Park and his caring team. I visited both the Torrance and El Segundo offices. Both were great. Clean, COVID safe, and easy parking. Don't believe any negative reviews about Coastal Ortho. They are the real deal and everyone I know sees them and has had great experiences. read more

While I would rate a 4 for the Doctor and PT, the billing department is beyond a mess o. Top.of rude. My bills were incorrect until I met in person with someone else from billing to determine what was truly owed. Paid that amount. Had couple more PT sessions which they have you pay in advance which I was told was $75 per session and had been for.my 6 weeks. 4 months later I get a nasty call saying they are sending me to collections for a balance they cannot justify nor have I received a bill. And no communication despite my calls. It is absolutely absurd. Terrible business practices here and costs not transparent. read more

My primary referred me to Coastal Ortho on Jan 6th and they were able to schedule me sooner for Jan 20th their first cancellation. My primary did an x-ray and wasn't able to see anything and said I need an MRI so I was under the impression that it was going to be taken care of on that day, but I was informed by the Dr. that he needs to get an authorization and once they have the authorization I would have to go to their Torrance location for MRI, and today's visit is for authorization only! I informed the doctor that I'm in pain and I have to take painkillers to be able to sleep, and he smiled and said we'll let you know when we have the authorization. I called my insurance to find out why it was taking so long to get authorization and I was informed there were no requests for an MRI. I called Coastal Ortho on 02/07/2023 to get an update and I was told that they had not received the authorization as of yet and transferred my call to the individual handling the insurance authorization and I left a message. When I left the message, I clearly informed the individual that I went to their office in El Segundo and their doctor requested an MRI, and I am trying to get a status on that since I have not received any updates and it usually doesn't take 3 weeks to get an MRI authorization. The gentleman called me back and said in order to get authorization I need to schedule a doctor's visit and the doctor has to request the MRI! I asked the gentleman, can you tell me what I was in your El Segundo location on 01/20/2023? He said have you seen the Dr. already? I replied, YES, I have and he was supposed to request for an MRI on 01/20/2023. He put me on hold, came back after a few minutes, and said OK, we have to get an authorization and we'll inform you when is done. I asked him, so NO ONE as of today 02/07/2023 put in a request for an MRI? The answer NO I have no idea what kind of medical office these people are running, but you have an option to go to a different facility than any other location, I would strongly suggest that. Unfortunately, I have to write this review since it has been 9mo. since date of service and there has been zero resolution or follow up to my multiple inquiries. I went to Coastal Ortho back in Feb 2019 for hip pain since they were conveniently located to my place of work. I would give the facility 5 stars if I could. The facility is brand new, clean, and there is easy parking. I would give Dr. Huber 5 stars as well. Great bedside manner, was on time, and spent a lot of time reviewing my injury and treatment options. 0 stars for Front Office - they never answer the phone to book appointments or they practically never return phone calls. It took over 6 weeks to get an MRI appt. and for them to verify my insurance. That is a long time while in excruciating pain. -5 stars to the Billing Department - Be careful, they will double charge you for copays. Since they share a facility with PT and their Xray facility - if you get two treatments in the same day they try to charge you double for copays. I used to work in Orthopedic billing for 8 years and if you had the same Place of Service (POS) location on your billing form you CANNOT charge double co-pays. You either need to add a modifier (-25) to the billing and resubmit the claim. Not to mention I paid the first $30 in office with a receipt (they are still requesting $30 for me since they misplaced the payments) and are trying to collect a second $30 from me (for the xray in office on the same day). Therefore - you I owe you $0 Therefore - I took my business elsewhere since you never called to book surgery Therefore - I have to leave a terrible review since you refuse to reprocess my claim or accept responsibility that you are billing incorrectly read more

I've seen 50+ doctors in my life with excellent experiences overall, but this is the very first place where I felt they only cared about their high patient head count, and nothing about the individual patient's care and experience. First while waiting to see my doctor, I had the unique experience of hearing THREE other patient's names called starting 10 minutes AFTER my appointment time. Second, after scheduling my PT appointments a few months in advance they suddenly cancelled all of my appointments at the last minute because they "expired" and said I had to pay to see Dr. Magovern again! No one explained this policy to me when scheduling yet they wanted me to pay for their lack of training or oversight. Anna in the PT dept. told me her manager would call me back but of course she NEVER did. I then chose another practice for my PT but wanted Dr. Magovern to at least know how unprofessional his PT department is, so I left multiple messages for his assistant Nancy stating that I wished to relay an issue. She tried me only once then after many more calls to her she NEVER even had the professional courtesy to call. read more

They wasted my time and money. I took MRI for my hip pain at Providence and they requested the follow-up appointment with the dr. During the appointment what they did was to tell me the dr does not treat what I have and give me the copy of diagnosis, which I already had electronically. Couldn't this be done over the phone?!?! I was glad the dr sent an arthogram and found what I have. But that was it. Overall I'm not impressed and happy about their service. read more
