My wife and i usually prefer non-chain establishments and both haven't been to a Jose Peppers for about 10 years, until the past few months. We got the value pack 'Free Espinaca Con Queso' coupon in the mail and decided to stop in for lunch. In our return, we were surprised with the quality of the food and drinks. I'm a sucker for quality chips and salsa/queso and was very pleased. We got the Carnitas Chimichanga and the Creamy Morita Steak Enchiladas (replaced the original Creamy Steak Enchiladas). The Carnitas Chimichanga was great. Comparing the Morita vs original creamy steak enchiladas, I liked the original better but it was still good. As for the drinks, the Jose Rocks margarita and Sangria Swirl were both really good. If you want authentic, full on Mexican food, this might not be what you want. It's advertised as Tex-Mex and it was. The flavors were really good and we will be returning, mostly because that free queso slaps lol. read more

I feel like Jose peppers is very hit or miss. Sometimes it's great sometimes not so much. I do really enjoy their salsa and their hot salsa. They have the best cheese dip as well. We sat on the patio today which was really nice, had good service and the food was fine. It's pretty inexpensive as well. I had the lunch combo plate. The taco was super crunchy and not soggy at all. And the cheese enchilada was okay, it had yellow cheese in it which I would have preferred white. read more

I was a guest in attendance of a larger group (20) for a birthday celebration. A reservation was made but we had to wait over fifteen minutes before we could be seated in an area where 3 booths and 1 table housed our party. Overall the restaurant is pretty large. There were other parties and tables not cleared yet. The response to the inconvenience of the wait and seating was appropriate and appreciated. Our lone server Jordan was phenomenal. Once our group was seated, we got drinks in a reasonable time. Our orders were taken and with fifteen to twenty minutes food was being brought out for all of our group in 5 mins of each table. All the servers who supported Jordon were great. Part of our group was teenage boys who wanted to watch NBA finals on the TV near us and they got it switched to that channel. The experience was made so much better and we were accommodated and served well! I enjoyed the flautas platter, the beans and rice were my favorites of the dish. The chicken itself didn't seem to have much flavor but with the cheese, guacamole, lettuce and con queso.. it was more palatable. Never skip out on getting the Espinaca, it is a must do! They also have an outside dining area, but try not to sit next to the dumpster. Honestly, I was disappointed. Jose peppers used to be a faithful member of my rotation... but this last experience was not it. I ordered a chicken chimichanga with espinaca on top (which I paid for) but did not receive. The Chimi was tiny and the meat inside was dry. The chips and salsa were good and I appreciated the way they packed it for carry out. I'm going to chop this up as a bad day, and not what Jose has become in the years. Wow! What an unexpected surprise. We enjoyed a wonderful meal here not too long before they closed, but everything was hot, fresh and delicious. Our server was a fellow named Isaac and he did a great job! We each had a couple of giant margaritas, which put us in a better mood. The chili con queso was just wonderful! My wife got the enchiladas ricas, which are chicken enchiladas in a jalapeño cream sauce. She let me try a little bit of them and they were magnificent. I had a beef taco, beef, enchilada, and a cheese enchilada. I believe that was combo number three. The cheese enchilada was not good. Largely forgettable. Marginal. But the two beef items were fantastic! So I will just avoid the cheese enchilada next time as the beef enchilada had some cheese inside of it already. I'll start with the fact that the food was much better than the order online attempt and the walk-in pick up. I began with attempting to place and order online. Selected the location, it told ne what the earliest time was available but then after selecting the meal I wanted and error popped up saying that the pick up had changed to an entirely different day and time. So I proceeded to call the restaurant and ask if they were still taking orde. The representative said yes and transferred me to place and order. The phone rings, unanswered for at least 7-8 minutes , and by then, I'm in the car and en route to place a walk-in order. Sad that no one ever picked up. Walk into the restaurant and have to have them call through the headset the person who was assigned to manage the to go orders. Took her about 5 minutes to come out as I'm standing next to a customer who was waiting for his order and noticeably irritated with the time he's been waiting. I finally placed my order, and she advised that it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. To my surprise, that was the only thing that worked out. My order came out timely as promised and correct. I did 3 stars for a combination of the service and food. The service was so bad that it outweighed my satisfaction with my food. Better management needed, maybe?? I put it in third place after Ponaks and Los Tules. I had two fajita chicken soft tacos. I believe that their tacos are a little larger than the average taco let you find out a Mexican restaurant. My companion had their special that night which is a twist on a street taco that you eat and dip into a enchilada type sauce. We're in town for work and tried Jose Peppers across from the hotel we're staying at. The staff greeted us and we where seated fast. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. Food is inconsistent. They seem to be changing items to cut food costs like cutting out alot of the meat and adding big chunks of onions. The cistomer service sucks too. Both the server and manager were rude when I said it was different then ignored us when we asked for our check until I chased them down. I am typing this out as we are sitting here Made it by almost 3pm on a Saturday before Thanksgiving. Server almost immediately brought chips and salsa. She instantly took our drink orders and even waited extra time so that they would be on happy hour prices! Brought us waters to help pass the time lol. How Did I Miss It? While we do try to shy away from chains toward local businesses, we found ourselves across from St. Lukes East Hospital with an hour window before an event in Liberty. We realized that even as we had seen and heard about it before, we had never been to Jose Peppers! Seeing a parking space open up right by the door, out decision was made - early dinner and check it out. Being right across Douglass from the hospital and just off I-470 puts it in a great location. There is ample parking in the shared lot, and we were encouraged by the amazing number of curbside delivery spaces (I counted at least 11), so there must be a serious demand. No surprise, at 4:30 PM on a Wednesday we were seated immediately. Our server followed us to the chosen booth and took our drink orders. Since it was our first time she took us through the menu and all their featured and "special" offerings in detail. We ordered the Epincaca Don Queso dip ($3 at Happy Hour price), a combo meal and carnitas enchiladas to get a feel for what was available. The "dip" was a flavorful cheese with a nice "bite" to it. We were starting out winning! The pork in the enchiladas and beef in the tacos were shredded. To me, ground beef is hamburger and not very authentic (I had spent way too much time in the mountains of Honduras to not know the difference). That said, all the meat was perfectly cooked, very flavorful, and moist. The sauces had a nice welcomed "bite" that was very satisfying, along with cheese blends, that complimented the meal. The "corn balls" on the side are another nice touch to rounding out the meal. Throughout the meal the service very good, with things showing up "at the right time" and perfect temperature. All staff we encountered were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Prices are well within what should be expected, so there was no sticker shock at the end of the meal. As I noted before, our timing was perfect for seeing the restaurant in its best light, not too early and not too late. No real pressure on the staff so we could see what they are really capable of. Tables and floors were clean, and no nagging details were missed. We were impressed, Jose Peppers is now pretty high on our go-to list. COVID-19 Considerations; As the lockdown era is winding down, there is still an effort for safety. Masks are required when not seated, Gloves required where appropriate, Reasonable social distancing is practiced, Tables are sanitized after each customer, and Hand Sanitizer is available. read more

One of the best Mexican restaurants around here. The jalapeño cream cheese is the BEST I'd put it on any and everything. I'm a big fan of the sweet corn balls as well.
