Michelle saved the day for us! My husband was measured for a tux in CO and we were picking it up in Boston for a wedding in the city that evening. The guy who measured him in Colorado had no idea what he was doing so he when he tried it on in Boston it was totally wrong. Wedding at 5:30 and we picked it up at 1. Michelle at the store found a tux jacket and shirt that actually fit. She literally saved the day. She was so professional, helpful and hustled for us. I had an extremely positive experience with Jos. A Bank in Boston. On our way up from New Jersey for a wedding, we hit a ton of traffic and it caused us to be cutting it tight for timing. I am not one to write reviews, however, I had an extremely positive customer service experience at this Jos A Bank. I went in looking for a suit and settled on purchasing a custom suit after trying on multiple items with the help of the in-store associates. The process was very smooth and felt like I had been sized correctly, however, when the suit arrived it did not fit me well at all. After several iterations of trying to get the right fit (including various alterations and even Jos A Bank ordering a new suit altogether), I determined that the style suit just wasn't going to fit (I was going for a slim fit all-wool suit, which did not offer enough flexibility for my shape). I was disappointed because I wasn't sure what the return policy was around custom orders. Fortunately, the store fully refunded my order and was immediately helpful in finding another suit in store that fit perfectly (different style and material). I don't typically put up such a stink when making a purchase, but given this was a big purchase for me, I wanted to make sure I got it right. Fortunately, the associates were understanding and patient with me during the entire process. I was pleased that the associates at the store (specifically Jay and Ryan) assured me that they would work to find a solution for me, which they did. Both were very understanding of my concerns, not to mention very informative during the sizing process. I will certainly be returning to this location for future purchases! read more

Came in late on a Sunday to pick up a suit for a wedding two weeks out. figured two weeks is cutting it very short but Mike the sales guy was helpful and positive and after a little over an hour of trying stuff on and searching through the racks we found the suit I wanted. All I needed was some alterations, which Mike assured me could be accomplished in the two weeks before the wedding. Since it was late on Sunday I offered to come back Monday to get fitted for the alterations. Mike was gracious and wrote down who I should ask for depending on what time I arrived on Monday. When I showed up Monday I spoke to Aaron at the front desk and explained how I was there to be fitted for the suite I picked out the day before. Aaron returned from the back of the store in a huff explaining that Mike was late and that my suite wasn't there... That's it...That's all he said. Nothing about trying to help me out, he just wanted to let me know what little he thinks about Mike. When I asked him what's next he shrugged and threw up his arms. Nothing, not a word from this guy about what he could do for me now that I was there in the store. He didn't offer to help me find the suit in the rack, even as I was walking out of the store letting him know that after this horrific retail experience I will be canceling my order and won't be coming back. 180 degrees different from my last experience at this store, but it doesn't even seem they want me to return.... James over there is the most u helpful person I've ever experienced within customer service. I called 3 separate times just wanting to find out shipping information on when to expect a shipment from the store and he was extremely unhelpful and rude. Not sure how hard it is to look up the status of the shipment, but the first time he put me on hold for 20 minutes. The second time I called he finally asked for my personal information which seems like it could have been useful during the initial conversation before I was on hold for 20 minutes - then he put me back on hold. The third time I tried him he said "we're working on it" and hungup on me. The fourth he didn't pick up the phone. Still haven't gotten the shipment that I was told would arrive by now. I purchased a suit here almost a year ago now, and was too flustered after the experience to leave an honest review at the time, somewhat concerned that the woman at the desk would experience retaliation from her boss. Here goes. I had multiple issues with the experience: 1. A man (who I presume to be the location manager) was condescending to the woman who rang up the sale. As a customer, it was immediately obvious to me that this would be a hostile place to work. Not a good look. 2. That same man kept insisting that I sign up for some kind of special offer by allowing them to use my phone number and mailing address for advertisements. After repeatedly declining, he was condescending toward me, saying something to the effect of "whatever. Your loss." Here's the kicker: he STILL SIGNED ME UP!!! I'm actually writing this review out of frustration, upon receiving yet another batch of ads in my mailbox. 3. The suit jacket itself didn't fit in the store. I expressed concern about this, and was told that I ought to buy it anyway, because a tailor would be able to make it work. They sent me to a tailor with 37 YEARS of experience, and the jacket still looks like crap. Tl;Dr: the manager is abusive toward their employees, they signed me up for ads that I firmly declined to spite me, and I have a 500+ dollar suit jacket that I will never wear because it can't fit me. read more

I am writing this review acknowledging that Jos. A Bank itself is great, and I have bought product from them for a long time... But this location IS THE WORST. One staff member in particular was incredibly rude when we were trying to make a return, and stated that it was akin to "returning underwear". He took his time to condescendingly lecture us, turned everything around on us, and informed us that he "felt we were taking advantage of them"....by returning shoes that caused nerve pain and legitimately could not be worn, no matter how much we liked them. Over $100 down the drain. Buyer beware... Go to another location if you're going to shop here! Cat-fished and wasted my time for a $99+20 rush shipping option for a tuxedo rental -- after I called the night before, came to the store, did the fit--suddenly it wasn't available, and the new price was $169.99. It wasn't really the price but the fact that the store associate changed his price and value. This should be a case for the better business bureau. Those are just the facts. Not long ago, I purchased a few suits from another Jos A Bank store. Although these suits were from the "slim fit" collection, I found them to still be a little too baggy. So, I figured I'd take one of my suits to the State St. store to inquire about tailoring. Unfortunately, the store staff were too busy to really pay any attention to my request. As one woman stood around cluelessly, the obviously busy manager took a cursory look at my suit and then left to take a phone call. Seeing that this was how I was going to be treated, I figured it was time to go, so I left. This store needs some work on its customer service. You'd think they'd pay particular attention to existing (and possibly future) customers. As soon as I can afford it, I'll be looking to replace my Jos A Banks suits with better ones that are slimmer fitting, and hopefully not all made in China. read more

I would not recommend this location. This was my first experience with Joseph A. Banks and it was for my wedding coming up in two weeks. In short, some of the sales persons are better and some are worse. I got stuck with a worse one, unfortunately. The prices seem to be fair, but really only if you are able to take advantage of the "Buy one get three free sales." I entered the store asking about tuxedos. I was shown a tuxedo that my fiancé liked and we purchased 3 of them (one for me and two for my groomsmen). I also picked out a suit of equal value given the buy 1 suit, get 3 free deal that was going on. I gave them the required measurements and I was advised that they would order the suits and we would then have to be fitted. I later called to follow-up and was told that they do not carry that suit in my size, a 46 long, which, as far as I understand, is not a weird size. I then went in for another look at tuxedos and was forced to pick one that was less desirable, and was subsequently cheaper, however, because I picked one of the free suits at equal price to the first tuxedos, I did not qualify for a price reduction. It appeared that they only had two types of tuxedos. Come to find out, while my future father-in-law was getting fitted at a Joseph A. Banks Tuxedo specialty store, that the location I was buying from had not sold me tuxedos, they sold me suits from their High-end line (That kind of look like tuxedos). My future father-in-law had the Tuxedo place look up my order, so that he could get a matching Tuxedo, however, they discovered that I was not buying tuxedos for my wedding. In retrospect, it feels like this location downtown did this simply to get a sale from me, a customer depending on their expertise. Since I purchased the suits, the location has instructed me several times that suits would be available for pick-up on certain days after they were tailored (over $200.00 additional in charges). Each time, I was told that the suits would be ready, they weren't. One of the "tuxedos" still doesn't fit one of my groomsmen, but they sent him home with it today anyway stating "I guess that's just how it fits" Clearly the prices are structured such that you would only purchase this quality of suits if you were able to get 3 more for "free." read more

I stopped in today after finding out the meeting I was going to was dressier than I thought. I needed a coat and tie in a hurry, it had to fit me, it had to match what I was wearing, it couldn't break the bank, and it had to look good :-) Heather helped me and was brilliant. Her suggestions were right on, even when I wasn't sure at first. Once I tried them on, she had nailed it. I see a lot of poor reviews going back to 2014-15 here, so I hope to start a new trend. ***I need to warn anyone who might be considering doing business at this location*** I will start by saying that I have been a long time customer of Jos. A Bank. I really do like their cloths. I used to shop at the location on Franklin St before it shut down. They had my trust which is why I didn't read the reviews of this location prior to committing to them to handle the tux rentals for my wedding. Anyways, here is the drama if you care to read.... I went with my best man to the Natick location to set up the rentals which was a very pleasant experience. I paid upfront for my rental as I had no plans of going elsewhere. fast-forward about six months and it is time to get fitted (a little over a month before wedding day). When I arrived at the store, State St, Boston, MA, I spoke with an employee, Merwin. He spent the first approx. 10 minutes telling me that I hadn't paid for my rental yet. After some banter he finally took it upon himself to look into the computer, and much to his surprise he saw that I had already satisfied my balance. He followed up with "that's weird... that's not how we handle things around here". I chalked it up to thinking that he probably was having a bad day and forgot about it. Fast-forward to yesterday I received a call from one of my groomsman who advised that I should call and make sure everything was in order as he had some issues with his tux. I called the location where I got fitted to confirm that my Thursday pickup date was still all set. Lucky me, the same employee, Merwin, picked up the phone. Before I gave him my information he blurts out "NOPE NOT HERE". I calmly explained that I just wanted to confirm that my pickup date was still Thursday. He replied with "If it's not here Thursday it will be here Friday". I then explained that I am leaving out of state for my wedding Thursday and that I would not be able to pick up the tux on Friday. He responded with "well then there is nothing we can do for you". I was taken aback by his abrasiveness and told him that I was going to have to file a formal complaint, which I did. He responded with "Do what you have to do, I have 3 customers in front of me and don't have time to be on the phone". Unfortunately I had to leave it at that. I called corporate and complained and they reassured me that the tux had shipped out and should be at my pickup location no later than Thursday. Today is Wednesday and I am just hoping that everything works out. Not a big deal if not, I have way bigger things to worry about... you know, like getting married. But honestly, this individual created more stress when their job is literally to "satisfy and delight" their customers. I will never shop at this location again, and will advise anyone looking for any type of service to steer clear. BUYER BEWARE read more

my fiance and i went to jos a bank a few weeks ago in hopes of picking him up a few inexpensive suits that he could wear to work. the experience was horrible, and we will never go back! when we arrived, the salesperson ditched us after pointing us to one section. we had a few questions, but never found him again and were left to fend for ourselves. we finally decided to peruse on our own and found a few options to try on. once in the fitting room, we realized that he would be better suited for separates. however, getting a salesperson to help us find the separates section was extremely difficult, but we did eventually get one. we finally picked out 4 options that we liked from the separates section that the salesperson had specifically brought us to, and he had told us that all options would be available for ordering. unfortunately, when we brought up the items to the register, they suddenly told us that they were unable to order any of the patterns or colors in the sizes that we wanted. they offered no apologies, and offered no help with selecting new options. instead of spending any more time in the store and rewarding them with our business, we decided to leave. such a waste of time. read more

If I could give this a zero star, I would. I purchased two suits in mid-June 2011, and as of the beginning of August, one suit is M.I.A. and the other was tailored incorrectly. The suits were on backorder--I was told one would be ready the last week in June and the other the first week in July. There had/has been a clear disconnect between the store and their factory, because the store is saying one thing, but the factory keeps sending me notices telling me the order will be canceled if I don't authorize it. I've explained this to the store to no avail. All along, the store has not called me once with an update. They did not call me two weeks ago when my first suit came in, and they did not call me this week to tell me the tailoring was done. I am also very disappointed in the competence of the tailors. I was convinced at the time of purchase that I should move up one jacket size because the excess could be taken in to my liking, however, after seeing the tailoring on the first jacket, it is clear I should've gone with the smaller size. The pants were supposed to have a full break too, but they look rather short. I am officially pulling the plug on the order all together after receiving a poorly tailored suit and a suit that is M.I.A. nearly two months after purchase. I plan to never shop at Jos. A. Bank again--especially the State Street location. read more

Unfortunately I had one of the worst shopping experience in quite a while here. My friend and I walked in to get suits for a wedding, his took 20 minutes and mine was hour and half. The gentlemen fitting me thought he was using a brush and proceeded to use a shoe shine brush which ruined the suit. I have zero faith I was charged correctly or will receive the correct items. I popped in here for the first time a couple weeks ago to see what they had for sport coats, since I had heard that they have regular sales. Sure enough, they had a 70% off sale, and though it still cost $200 for their "Travelor" sport coat, I thought it seemed to be decent quality and it had a tailored (slimmer) fit that I had been looking for. The salesman was very patient with me as I tried on several coats and gave me a couple recommendations, after which I settled upon one I liked. So why 2 stars? Well, I told them I wanted to get the sleeves tailored since they were a little long on me. I was told it would take 2 weeks (!) but I wasn't in too much of a hurry so I said what the hell, ok. The guy who measured the sleeves and marked them for tailoring came over and left before I could ask any follow up questions. I told the salesman that the marks seemed a little uneven, and I asked if they could be redone. The salesman said most people have slightly uneven arms, and the measuring was done the way it was supposed to be done, despite my protests that I've never had that uneven arm issue. He assured me that it could be re-tailored if I wasn't satisfied. Well, 2 weeks later I gave them a phone call and they said the coat was all set and ready for pickup. I stopped by, tried it on but since I was in a rush, I didn't inspect it too closely. Upon closer inspection later, the sleeves were uneven just as I'd feared, and a little bit shorter than ideal, so any amount of re-tailoring would probably make it even worse. The sleeve buttons were not re-sewn in a good line either. I'm pretty much stuck with the coat because I have an event in a week I need it for, but needless to say I'm pissed. I definitely won't use their tailoring again for the inaccuracy and lengthy wait, and I may not go back there at all after that experience. read more

DO NOT buy anything from here, especially not something "custom". We bought 2 custom suits for our wedding. After spending over an hour in the store to measure my husband's entire body and 7 weeks for assembly, the suits not only didn't him fit correctly but were VERY different from each other. We had to spend an additional $300 getting them tailored by a third party the week of the wedding because Jos. A. Banks made them even worse after the included tailoring they do in store. THEN when we explained our frustration to them they were very prompt and helpful in their reply stating that we'd get a check for $300 and we'd get free gift dollars for in-store. That was 2 months ago and we have received NOTHING. We've emailed no less than 3 times since then and no emails have been answered. They are completely full of shit and produce shitty suits. If you want something cheap and ill fitting then hit this place up but if you're looking for something of quality spend your money somewhere else! Try Bonobos! read more

So here is the scoop. Went in for a low coast suit. Had it altered and went i got it back the fit was still off. They said they could do nothing for me because and i quote "you bought a cheap suit". On top of that it did not look it was cleaned or pressed and it had dust and fuzz all over it. Nice right. It seems more than just a trend of one stars for this place. I am a groomsman in a wedding in three weeks. The groom had each of us in the party buy matching suits from Jos A. Bank. The sales clerk at his Jos A Bank store in California said all of our tailoring would be free for our party. So I brought my suit into the State Street location, where I was told 1) tailoring would not be free, despite what anyone else said (which is fine, no biggie); and 2) they couldn't have the suit tailored for me by the wedding. That's in over three weeks! I wont event get into the style of suiting there (pleats, really?). Overall a frustrating experience from a customer service perspective. read more

I had bought a suit from another location and it was time to get it altered so I came to JAB's State Street location and was pleasantly surprised by the quickness of the alterations and by the knowledgeable staff. Alterations were done a day earlier and when I went to pick them up, a kind employee stayed a little past closing time and made sure I left completely satisfied, even saying I should try it on. I'm knocking one star off since I never asked for some alterations to get done (e.g., a $15 shirt gripper alteration) which obviously upped the price (paid for at the time I submitted the suit for alterations). I would appreciate being told the full alterations prior to agreeing to have them done, but then again I'm not knowledgeable enough to know to ask for something additional. read more

I was in my best friends wedding back in June and needed to get my suit from a jos a bank. When I came in a worker put a jacket on me quickly and said, "ok yeah looks good" and I didn't think twice about it even though he never measured me. They had to order my pants and when they came in and I went to pick up my full suit, I tried on everything and thought the jacket was a little big. When I asked the same worker who put the jacket on me the 1st time what he thought he said it was all personal preference. Kind of ridiculous of someone whose job it is to fit people for suits to not give a real answer. When I asked the manager what he thought he laughed and said whoever fitted me doesn't work there anymore. Kind of unprofessional considering he very much was standing right there. The manager took me to the side and made a bunch of marks for alterations to the jacket and then charged me for the alterations that would need to be made and said my suit would be ready the day before I was leaving for the wedding. My experience at this store was terrible clearly but thankfully when I called customer service they were great. They were shocked to hear about my experience and refunded what I paid for the alterations. read more

I am very disappointed with the quality of the pair of dress pants I bought at this store and how the store handled the issue. After a little over a year of normal wear, I noticed that the pants had become thread bare and that a hole the size of a quarter had worn through below the left-rear pocket. I took the pants back to the store and was surprised when the manager immediately dismissed the issue as normal wear and tear. I have owned many suits and pairs of dress pants in my life, and it has been my experience that they normally last six to eight years. Sadly, it appears that when it comes to clothing from Jos. A. Banks, six to eight months is closer to the norm. In the future, I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Worst customer service ever experienced in my life. I ordered suit and gave it for alteration. The manager told me to pick up after a week (Thursday) but i was nice that I told them I will pick up after an extra day on Friday. Friday morning, I spend more than an hour to find parking in downtown Boston, after such hard time finding a parking When I went to pick up they have not even touch the suit for alteration they asked to hang around in downtown Boston to pick up after few hours. What a customer service? Really disappointed. I spend more than twelve hundreds on that store and in return they provide me such disappointing customer service. I hope these people in Jos A Bank will start to think and start to provide good customer service. read more

We live in Califrnia and were recently married in Maine. One of our groomsmen who lives in Boston picked up all the groomsmen tuxes here. I have never set foot in this store but have spoken to them on the phone a couple times and all interactions were extremely unpleasant. After placing the order in CA I called here just to confirm that they would give all 5 suits to our friend. This doesn't seem that strange to me, but the guy didn't understand what I wanted and instead of trying to understand, he became very rude and abrasive, interrupting me and raising his voice. Finally he hung up on me, even though i wasbeing calm and polite. I haven't been treated so badly by someone in the service industry in a long time. I ended up having to call back and got ahold of someone who was only marginally less rude but who I was able to communicate with. Fortunately the tuxes all came in on time, but I would try other Jos A Bank stores in Boston in the future and avoid this one -- they really seem to have an attitude problem. read more

I bought a suit here recently as part of a wedding party and had nothing but frustration with the staff and experience. The suit was delayed several times with no explanation (almost missing the wedding date), the manager didn't return calls, and the overall experience working with them was one I wouldn't wish on someone preparing for a wedding. I went to this Jos. A Bank to get fitted for a tuxedo at my sister's wedding. A seemingly new employee took my measurements, which were spot-checked by an experienced employee who noticed that the outseam measurement had been written down as the inseam measurement. The tux arrived at another store (as requested, which is good), but when I went to try it on a second time, three days before the wedding, the pants, jacket and shirt were all sized incorrectly by several inches. The new store was able to tailor the pants and jacket to fit and promised to replace the shirt. When I went to pick the tuxedo up, I noticed that they had fixed the pants and jacket but had not replaced the shirt as requested. At this point it was too late to overnight a new shirt for the next day, and the new shirt wouldn't be at the store until the day of the wedding. The shirt arrived three hours before the wedding which was a 45 minute drive from the store. Everything worked out in the end but it took a few extra trips, extra attentiveness on my part, and caused unnecessary last-minute stress on the day of the event, as well as added cost (gas) and time driving back and forth. If the original measurements had been done correctly all of this could have been avoided. When the employee noticed a significant mistake in one of the measurements, all of the measurements should have been double-checked. read more

This place is full of assholes who have no time to care unless you are planning on dropping a wad of cash to fund their commission. I asked one younger man with black spikey hair for assistance and he couldn't be bothered. I showed him something I was looking for online and he couldn't even turn around to face me to answer my question. When he finally did he just pointed and said yeah, over there. The sales people in this place have a SERIOUS attitude problem. Spend your money elsewhere. There was one nice sales lady that helped me out however. The only person worth their paycheck. read more

I'm just now writing this review and feel I have to chime in after all of the 1-star reviews posted. Last October our son was getting married in Florida. The groomsmen all needed a light green tie to go with their grey suits. I went in this store and found the perfect one but there weren't enough so they had to be ordered. Not only did they arrive on time, they gave me all fresh ones (9) rather than those that had been on display and could have possibly faded. The woman who waited on me could not have been more pleasant. When the order came in, she called me. When I went to pick them up, they were nicely wrapped and ready for me to put in my suitcase for the flight down to Florida. Since then, we have stopped in randomly to buy a shirt here or socks there and they are always very nice. They don't hover over you or follow you around, hoping for a sale. They give you space but answer questions. Just a few minutes ago I called to ask about a tuxedo shirt. She put me on hold, went and found several options and got right back on the phone to tell me about them. I'm not fussy and I don't expect someone to hold my hand when clothes shopping. I was a bit worried after reading the other reviews about this location to avoid this JAB like the plague but in fact, the staff was superlative in their customer service. Darren helped me out when other locations (Boyslton street) were downright rude when I called ahead asking for assistance. Not only is this store extremely helpful and the customer service is excellent, each customer is given just the right amount of attention (not fawning but always helpful) and the prices are excellent, even by Jos A Banks standards. Highly recommend this location for anyone downtown. read more
