Took my VM buggy to Johnny Lightning based on his review and past service several times. Had them to do an electrical upgrade on ignition system (Did well but pricey) and also a carb replacement and tuneup. Had a carb replacements due to diesel in gas. Got buggy back and it ran like it wasn't jetted or correctly carbureted, as we as both carburetors leaking. Called Johnny back 3 times for help and advice. Each time they blew me off. (What an asshole after taking it there 3 times) Come to find out after I was forced to find another VW specialist, I found out carbs were not synced, floats and jets were not adjusted properly to altitude either, Spent a lot of money for a screwing JL. Spent over 9,000$ here for them to blow most the budget I gave them on AC stuff that didn't really effect the function of the truck and didn't fix the main things I asked the truck still doesn't have the basic things I paid them to fix fixed they "said" the eletrical, axle leak, brakes,air conditioning and wipers were fixed I get a few miles down the freeway brakes lock up and start smoking while approaching heavy traffic I have put hundreds of miles on my truck with no issues until this shop touched it so it gets towed back fixed on my dime for something they said they went through and "fixed" so I get the truck back few days later notices axle is still leaking am going through it and then I see never touched any of the eletrical they "said" they fixed I mentioned the fuse block before I picked up the truck to steve and was told "It's fixed" the radiator hoses start leaking they were just flushing when they did the AC money dump before fixing the main issues that make the truck function and then wipers stop working minutes after driving in the rain so it goes back again on a flatbed all on my dime again keep in mind i was told all this was fixed and i "paid" for it to be "fixed". they don't call or touch my truck for months I get the run around from Steve I ask to talk to Jonny multiple times 4months after 0 progress was made the 2rd time the truck was towed in for months never heard from jonny until its done suddenly a few days after I got pissed on the phone with Steve I pick it up and things are still messed up I paid to have fixed now the wiring on the fuse block are getting hot and smoking now after they "fixed" the fuse block issue I was told I will not bring any of my 7 truck back here to have bad quality work and to be lied to my face about things I specifically asked was fixed wasnt even touched to pay multiple times for one repair they absolutely don't stand by any of their work and lack basic communication skills. times i asked for quotes i was given no infomation until truck was finished very very bad communication. all the reviews are not very accurate to the experience I had, I recommend other shops who have better communication and respect for their customers time especially a 2x comeback on a flatbed. I am thinking of taking this to civil court after I get all the work checked by another shop as I paid so much for things that clearly werent fixed and they have had the truck 3x now almost for a year total it's sat at that shop litteraly nothing they have touched has been a solid fix short term gains to lose a good paying customer and long term work. Oh yeah and now for some reason my truck has two right side tie rods after they redid my entire axle to fix this leak.. was almost undrivable and now a fire hazard I guess that one got passed the "experts" over there. read more

I came here because my husband's car was throwing transmission codes and they were close to his office. They kept his car for three days, checked everything from top to bottom, down to looking for metal shavings in the pan. When it was clear that it was a computer issue that is a recall, instead of charging us a diagnostic fee and nickel and diming us for everything, they just charged us for the service I requested they perform. Then they wanted to make sure that both my husband and I were very clear that we would follow up with the dealership with the recall. You can trust them. They're good. They called and said our car needed to have the motor and transmission pulled to fix the leaks and that would cost $3000.00. I had a funny feeling and wanted a second opinion. We picked the car up for a fee and took it over to Ed Martin's garage in Riverside for a second opinion. They called us within a hour and said they could fix all the leaks, oil change and tune it up for $615.11. One foggy morning the driver side window on my wife's 06 Tribute stopped working. I thought it was just off the track, took off the panel and quickly determined that the window was on the track but the regulator was broke. I called a couple of shops and they all wanted about $100 to diagnose the problem even though I had taken the panel off. I called Jonny and explained what the situation was. When I asked how much to diagnose he said "$45 if I have to take the panel off" I said I already had it off, he said than just bring it by. I drove down then and he looked it and said the regulator was busted and took 5 or so minutes to call on the part and gave me a price. He had about a million things going on and cars all over the place so I figured he would order the part and call me When it was in. Nope, he said he would have the car done by the end of the day and gave me a lift home. This hurts me to say it, Johnny Steve and the guys are great people. Honors his warranties. However we put in a motor transmission driveshaft and rebuilt rear end. He has tore it all down three times STILL not right. 3 starters 2 driveshafts 2 transmissions. I have been back to his shop more times than I can count. Drive shaft seal has gone out twice I burned up two transmissions Hard Shift Points. Less than 12,000 miles on the mother. Despite everything being still under warranty I had to hang them up. I took it to another place today they looked under the hood and said you need a lockdown cable with better geometry all your trouble will be over for a couple hundred bucks!
