Gary did a wonderful job refinishing my three bedrooms. He was punctual, great with communication, hard-working and very reasonably priced. I found him on one of my local Facebook groups, where they had a lot of high praise. Very happy with the results. Pictures are the floor are still wet, so they're not too shiny once dried. read more

Gary really cares about doing the job well. Even for a small patch-up job like ours, it was clear he put a lot of thought into his approach...and a lot of care into the work. A year later the new finish blends seamlessly with the old and I still sometimes think to myself when I walk past the spot, "Thanks Gary!" read more

Gary did an amazing job on our hardwood floors! We recently bought a older home in WC with 1970's linoleum in the kitchen. We wanted to match the old oak wood floors that buddied up to the kitchen. The challenge being that the floors are older oak and variegated in size. Spoke to many people who wanted to put in engineered hardwood or could partially match, but Gary gave me confidence that he could get same wood, size, then sand and stain to match. He tore them out and perfectly matched the old oak hardwood floors. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference. See attached pictures!!! Very impressed with his level of quality and professionalism. Super responsive, honest and upfront costing. Highly recommend!!! read more

Gary did an outstanding job on 1. Refinishing hardwood floor with multiple layers of staining and sealing worked out perfectly. The floor looked brand new. 2. Pay attention to details in repairing damaged wood and adding painted trim to the wallboard to fill in gaps. 3. Smooth the border between the hardwood and vinyle very well 4. Completed the job exactly when we needed the job completed. Outstanding work. :) read more

They are the BEST!! Gary and Scott (brothers) always arrived on time. They were careful with the work area, fixed some issues with our old hardwood flooring that we had lived with for years and found a perfect stain to match other areas of the house (one coat of stain and three coats of sealer). They replaced the baseboards and door that they had to remove to do a perfect job, moved and replaced the refrigerator like we asked, and so on. Our 400 sq. ft. of hardwood flooring was refinished in less than a week and looks like new. We had a gap in part of the hardwood flooring and you cannot tell where it was!! And the raised boards in the kitchen are GONE! The guys were friendly and always in good spirits, easy to work with. I only wish we had more flooring that needed refinishing. Six stars out of five. read more

Gary is by far the best tradesman I have used! When he sets a time to be there, he's always early. He's hard-working, diligent, and his attention to detail is magnificent! I would recommend him many times over to anyone who needs anything to do with floors!! top notch all the way read more

Gary did an amazing job restoring the original red oak hardwood that is in our 1960's home. The hardwood had been covered for years by carpet, and had major damage (pet urine, water damage from leaking roof lines and water damage from underneath) in many of the rooms from the previous owners/tenants. Gary had the best reputation and best price out of all the bids for the work. Highly recommend Jones Floor Designs. read more

Gary was quick to respond to my request for help, reached out to me for information about the job and was very flexible about scheduling a time to come by. Based on that and the fact that reviews showed he had done fine work similar to what I needed I'd have hired him. In spite of that we had to go with another company my husband had found earlier. That was our problem, not his. read more

I requested quotes on a job and received one from these guys SEVERAL days later that was FOUR TIMES HIGHER than any others. If you really weren't interested in the job, just say so. Or don't even bother to respond! I would stay away from them. read more

One word says it all: FANTASTIC For a remodeling project, some twenty years ago, we had a kitchen floor installed with a product called "engineered wood". However, it turned out that this product, mainly a thin varnished wood layer over particle board wore badly and eventually left many bare spots, especially in our breakfast nook area. We first contacted the store which sold and installed this product. They told us that not much could be done, especially since this floor product was no longer available. We called other floor restoration businesses; none had a good solution, one even suggested just covering the area with a nice rug. Finally, we called Jones Floor. Gary came by and after examining the floor, he was the only one to come up with an effective and workable solution: a relatively thin but study actual hardwood overlay with a gentle transition to the adjoining floors. Took him five days to install, color match, and varnish (three coats) the overlay. The result: yes, fantastic, a beautiful new, smooth, kitchen floor, very professionally done - even eliminating a squeak from the old floor. Furthermore, Gary was careful to always clean up, he tried to minimize the disruption to daily living, he did whatever he could to keep the cost down, and he always showed up at the pre-arranged time. We highly recommend Jones Floor Designs for any floor restoration work as well as new floor installation and would hire this business again for any future floor work. read more

I highly recommend Gary with Jones Floor Designs. My house is 63 years old and I bought it 10 years ago not knowing there was hardwood under the carpet. When it was time for the carpet to go I found original hardwood underneath (at least I think it is original) and it was in bad shape. I contacted Gary to evaluate the floor and give me an estimate. From the start Gary was responsive and on time. He started the job sooner than we originally agreed on and he was on time every day. My floors turned out beautiful. Gary replaced some board and brought original boards back to life. You can't tell the new from the old. I LOVE my floors! Call Gary if you have any hardwood needs! read more

I spoke to Gary about having baseboards installed at my house and he quickly gave me a quote. I asked if he would apply a military discount for being a Vet and he said he couldn't because the price he gave was as low as he could go, which I understood. Unfortunately I could not take off from work the following day to be home for the installation and neither could my wife. I asked if he would be available the following Monday, which he told me he had nothing scheduled for, but he said no. I asked when his next availability was and he responded by saying he would be able to do it on the day I requested, but raised the price $100. I asked why the day would hike the price and he stated to cover material...I didn't know the materials needed would be different between a Thursday and Monday. I decided to go with someone else who represented their company better and didn't use false advertisement to lure people in. read more

We are thrilled with the results, and will highly recommend them to our friends. Thanks once again for such a beautiful job! read more

We have been remodeling our newly purchased home since May of this year. I wanted to remove all the ugly carpeting and replace it with laminate flooring,so I started to look around and made a few phone calls and I wasn't happy with any one till I spoke to Gary from Jones Floor Design. I will start by saying..... THANK YOU to Gary and his professionalism and knowledge of "QUALITY HARDWOOD FLOOR INSTALLATION AND REPAIR/RECONDITIONING". We initially started the process with a "Different company".... But, due to a lack of knowledge of how to match older flooring with newer flooring and the fact that the time constraints weren't being met, we RELUCTANTLY decided to cut our losses and try one more time with one more company, to try to get these floors not only "REFINISHED"...But, finished where there was no flooring, thanks to "THE OTHER COMPANY". Long story shorter..... Gary responded to our "PLEAS" for help , in trying to find an ECONOMICAL solution to finishing our floors, in not only a timely manner..... but, also leaving us with something that we could be happy and quite proud of actually, and for a price that we could work with. (Since we had already paid the last guy, and our budget was pretty WELL SHOT because of it). Gary not only finished the job in its ENTIRETY....And, in LESS time than expected...... But, he ALSO went above and beyond, by spending "extra time" , in UNDOING the damage that the other contractor did..... He not only finished the other guys work....But, PERFECTED it in a way that we didn't even think was possible anymore!!! Thank you Gary and His hardworking personnel team, for making what started out as a DISASTER, into a VERY REWARDING and painless experience..... And, for not only ALL of that, but also for the "Pretty Glass Floors", as our little grandaughter calls them, when shes sliding around in her socks! Sincerely Thank You , Again!!!! Gary with Jones Floor Design did such a great job on our very damaged 1959 original hardwood floors. I called Jones Floor Designs for an estimate to repair our water damaged hardwood floors. If first impressions mean anything, Gary offered to come out to Orinda on a Sunday morning to take a look and give us an estimate. On time and no excuses, I liked Gary from the start. The estimate was fair and we signed with him to start work that week. We were having company over that weekend so we asked for a no work day on Friday and he accommodated our request without objection, finishing up the following week. On time everyday, explained what the goal for each day would be and ably met his target for the most part. Since the floor was wet when he completed the job, I wasn't able to inspect the finished job for a day. Found a few things that concerned me and called Gary, one call, that's all, and he and his workman returned and corrected the problem, again in one day. Diamond Star Certified, great Yelp reviews and positive feedback from my neighbors- I will gladly have Gary and his team back on future projects. read more

Gary is amazing! I just bought a home in Antioch, and the same day I got my keys, Gary came out and gave me a quote. The next week he started on Monday, and finished on Wednesday! We contracted with Jones Floor Designs to refinish our 50 plus year old hardwood floors. The job was completed on time and the workmanship was top notch. Our soft cherry floors were long past due for refinishing with pitting, high heel divots and well worn areas. We are thrilled with the refinishing results of our decades old red oak floors. When I first saw them I thought Gary had replaced them instead of refinishing them! He also replaced the wood in one room and it is gorgeous. He and his assistant were prompt, organized and cleaned up everything perfectly. I highly recommend them. One tip, on the first day of staining particularly, keep all your windows wide open (oil based). The next two water based stains are not nearly as noxious. read more

Gary and his son did a great job on our floors. Our house is from the 40s and needed to be totally refinished and some parts of the flooring needed to be replaced. The process was simple, clean, and the finish was more than we could have hoped for. We also felt that the price was VERY fair. Gary was easy to reach for questions and even came back out one evening during the process to show us some extra stain samples when we were struggling to pick a finish. Could not have asked for a better outcome or easier/nicer guys to work with. read more

Gary and Jones Floor Designs are the best and I could not be happier. I called last Monday am and Gary was out at my house in Concord by 11 am rite on time. One of the keys to evaluating tradespeople is to find out who does the actual work. With Jones Floor Design, Gary is the owner, he does the estimate, conducts all the communication, and does all the work himself, employing one associate who works side-by-side. Gary is a craftsman and addresses all questions, prep issues, colors, quality of sealers, etc. We had Gary refinish our entire downstairs, lighten the color, fix a small water damage, add a matching panel, remove/replace our refrigerator and put in baseboards throughout. Excellent work. We are very pleased with the results and love the new Golden Pecan color. We got four estimates and chose Gary because his price was in the middle, his availability fit our schedule well, he has the type of machine that picks up 95% of the dust (it truly did) and the fact that he does the work himself. He and his associate showed up promptly everyday and finished the job in exactly the time frame he quoted.Yes, I would recommend Jones Floor Design to others. read more
