To my surprise every call I made to flooring stores was answered by poor attitude sales persons along with the earliest install would be 2 or 3 weeks if lucky. Then I called Lamorinda Floors on Mt. Diablo in Lafayette. First phone call was welcoming and encouraging. Drive to the store and 25 minutes later found a top quality carpet at a fair price. "We can do the install in 2 days. The sales person, JR, was friendly, charismatic and easy to talk to. We ended up purchasing Coretec Vinyl, Sonia Marble. This product costs $10 a box which means, my bill of several thousand dollars was paying for the craftsmanship to install. JR told us, they will smooth your flooring out to make it even so there are no dips and valley. To prep, I had to remove my bath sink & toilet and remove my shutters to my sliding door. You pay half at start and other half of payment after installation. Installation guys were nice & professional. They did ask me a wee bit late which direction I wanted the flooring, as they had installed it the opposite direction I wanted. Without batting an eye, they pulled it up and changed it to my liking. After leaving and a few days later, the step layer piece (one step down from one room to other) started to pull off. Also, I notice the flooring had a lot of air pockets under the vinyl; they did not even the flooring prior to installation. We taped many spots where the flooring had air pockets to show JR. The owner ended up coming out and was not great at a resolution saying, it was a floating floor. I would not pay my second payment and eventually, they did come back to pull up flooring and even it out. I am happier about floor but I should not ever had to call back; it should have been done properly the first time. One error I made, I did not have them fix my baseboards. After putting them back on, they left the nails showing so now I have to take time from my life to fix. read more

This included all new baseboards, quarter round below kitchen cabinets, removing linoleum coping in bathrooms, removing and reinstalling closet doors, bifold, and room entry doors, moving stackable washer/dryer and moving 2 toilets. Their work was thorough, meticulous, and precise with great attention to detail. They were friendly, professional, and excellent communicators in quickly resolving minor issues. I recently just had installed in two of my bathrooms and Vanity areas some Lux, vinyl plank flooring (Also known as: LPV) by Lamorinda Floors located in Lafayette, CA. Mr. Jim Marshall is the long time owner of this long time business and is well known for his quality work with carpets, rugs, and also the newer vinyl covering which has been all the rage due to its warmth, length of service, look (either like wood or masonary). We contracted with Lamorinda Floors and his craftmen came on time, well prepared and did in what was supposed to be a two day job, completed it in one day which was an enourmoius task. This required removal of all doors, two toilets, and a multitude of baseboards, etc. They were extremely clean, cordial and had been in this business working for Jim Marshall for over 18 years. They were exacting to a fault, only completing each part of the task when perfectly done. The result of the job was breathtaking and I will attempt to do it justice with a picture or two. They had replaced a cheap rug put in to by the "selling realter" (who puts a light colored rug in a bathroom?) with a product that is so easy to maintain, non-slip and looks amazing. Its such a delight to see the result and all done at an amazing, extremely competitive price. Very affortable when you see the job being done and its magificant result. The real difference with Lamorinda Floors? It's the quality work being done, the "caring" about just the right match and selection of the product, its color, etc. that enhances the room, and the experience of their craftsman in installing the product. All put together -- an amazing breathtaking ending. Do I have any regrets? Yes! I have only one---I should have done this much much earlier rather than live in the squalor of a dingy, drab, carpeted master bathroom and guest bathroom. Warning, if you keep a floor sample for an extra day or two expect a rude phone call from Jim who works at the store. He called me and said, "You were suppose to bring the sample back on Monday!" He then said, "I heard you brought the sample back to our Concord store Pacific Coast Carpet but then took it back again". I said, "Yes, they said I could". 3 years ago we tore out old hardwood flooring in kitchen and with help of Lamorinda Floors chose a high end laminate (mattington mills) as a replacement. Within weeks I noticed a warping at the seam between the sink & the stove. Sent pictures to Lamorinda Floors and someone came out, looked at it & replaced the section. Again, within weeks, happened again in SAME SPOT. Have been told repeatedly by Lamorinda Floors that it's due to sitting water on the floor. Yes, because I like to leave spilled water on my kitchen floors. What? So three years later I finally get the owner out and he starts measuring moisture in the subfloors. We've had the rainiest winter i think in history and this is the time he wants to measure moisture? we were in an historic drought when the floor was installed, but, no matter. Issue was apparently resolved today by Mattington Mills who agrees with John (owner of Lamorinda Floors)- it's a moisture problem, they won't come out & look at it and see you later. The floor i think cost over 15K to put in and now i get to try and find a way to not have to tear the whole damn thing out and replace it with something that won't warp due to droplets of water in a kitchen environment. If you have a big space with a lot of different elements & high traffic stay away from this place. They are happy to take your money but once the job is done it's see ya later. 3 years i've been living with this and for 3 years they've been dodging the issue. Seems it paid off for them. ***UPDATE response to CHRIS whoever he/she is never met them. My dog's water bowl is NOWHERE near the damaged area. NOWHERE. Read above, I said you came out and replaced the damaged area. There was a rug and then a mat. In fact, the advice i got was to put a sealant on the seams. My point is - this damage is not caused by water damage. Unless, as I repeatedly said, water damage means water droplets that may on occasion drop on the floor and violate the 5 second rule. the seam along that section wasn't tight. It's a kitchen. Water is going to fall on the floor. If it happened in various areas of the kitchen (i have two sinks, a refrigerator w/water dispsenser, dishwasher etc) I would tend to agree the kitchen gets a ton of traffic with kids etc. It was always the same spot. So Chris, while you may think you advised me and I didn't follow the advice, all I can do is laugh. It took 3years of repeated emails & phone calls to get someone out here when I asked repeatedly for a 3rd party opinion. Never got one despite my being told on more than one occasion that that would happen. read more

We actually ended up with just purchasing the materials and doing the installation for the hardwood floors ourselves but purchasing and installation of carpets was through Lamorinda Floors. Their installation guys were really good, professional, clean and quick. They rip out the old carpet including stair carpeting and installed the new carpeting within a day. That's roughly about 1600 sqft. If there were any concerns or questions with your invoice, Jim was on top of it. He replied quickly and at the end worked with us to make sure everything added up correctly. First, this is not the "old" Lamorinda Floors that used to provide excellent product and service. This business is now owned by some outfit in Concord Ca. Second, shortly after some indoor/outdoor carpet was installed in a covered entry hall it developed large black spots. It has taken almost a year for us to get a response after many assurances that someone would come and look at it. Finally we received a letter from the manager of the business that said that the spots were normal and that the manufacturer suggested that if we wished to pay for an independent opinion we could and this would be sent to the manufacturer. There is no reason for these black spots which are quite unsightly as nothing has been spilled in the area. Third, I purchased expensive wool carpets from Lamorinda. At the time of installation I was assured that the seam lines would disappear with time. After two years this is not the case. The carpet has a nap and when it was being installed care was not taken to make sure the naps of the joining pieces ran in the same direction. Hence, the carpet in the dining room appears to be a different color from the rug in the living room and the seam is very apparent. As far as I am concerned the service and attitude of personnel at this store are really awful, the work unreliable, and there is little concern about client problems. I would call and leave numerous messages before I would reach someone. I strongly advise staying away from this business. There are many other fine flooring stores in the area. read more

The estimator came all the way out to my rural home with samples, took measurements and offered some excellent suggestions as I had no clue what would look good.
