Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and sat on the deck overlooking the lake.. beautiful views and laid back atmosphere. The service was a bit slow and inattentive but we still enjoyed our experience. They had many drink options and we ordered from the deck menu which is similar to a bar menu. We had steamers and shrimp with sweet Thai chili sauce. We enjoyed a fine dining experience at Jonathan's in Harvey's Lake. We never knew this jewel existed. The food was amazing! The flavors were spot on. The skin on the duck was perfectly crisped. The red skinned roasted mashed potatoes were so decadent, buttery and fluffy! I had the crab cakes. There was NO shortage of meat. I knew it was fresh because there were still some shells in it. I wish there weren't as many as there were. The double baked potato skins were yummy! The peas. They had a creamy sauce on them that actually made the peas taste good!! It was pricey, but for the quality of the meal, it's expected. The service and ambiance left a little to be desired. The servers tried to be nice but came off as short. They weren't (or maybe were but it didn't stick) trained on when to come to the table for clearing or checking in. There were very few actual smiles. Just many short exchanges. Went for an early afternoon dinner and to listen to a duo. Atmosphere was clean and open, food was below average. Server brought out two burgers and order was incorrect. So we did wait a bit for actual items that we ordered to come out. My burger was fine, standard but bun was burnt. Server didn't give us any napkins or utensils. We had to go to bar and ask for napkins. My husbands choice, chicken sandwich was small and the avocado was brown and old. I told waitress next time just don't bring the avocado if it looks like that. Needless to say I won't be going back for food here anytime soon. Started with Lobster Bisque and it was amazing. I ordered the Pork Chop and my wife got the crab cake. Pork chop was cooked perfectly and was moist and very flavorful. Ordered the twice baked sweet potato as well and was not disappointed. My wife enjoyed the crab cake as well. Prices were great and servers were excellent. Perfectly prepared as usual and served by an appropriately attentive staff, AND as has been their practice imodified incredibly well to my food allergy needs. This establishment is a MUST VISIT. Was headed up to Wilkes Barre for a night out, was gonna visit the casino then stop off and visit friends that I haven't seen in forever. It had been awhile since I've been to that city, so I wasn't sure where to eat. After a quick Google search (while driving....I know...BAD) I found directions to a BBQ place. After arriving at the BBQ place....ummmmmm no! I wasn't getting out of the car let alone going in!!! So - I'm starting to feel hunger pains - I Google again (this time while parked) and I see Jonathan's. Figured, "why not? Can't be worse than THIS place". Seriously....I half expected to see a rotting corpse in the immediate vicinity of the BBQ place. I noticed Jonathan's was right on the river and could only imagine the beautiful serene views from inside the restaurant on a nice day. We walk in and are greeted warmly. We came - WITHOUT A RESERVATION - and they were able to immediately accommodate us with zero issue even though the place was full. Jonathan himself came up to us, introduced himself and started chatting. He asked where we were from, how did we find his establishment.....very warm and gregarious. The menu was.....PERFECT. We started with Hors d'oeuvres - fried ravioli that came with a home made tomato jelly drizzled on top with mint? Not sure what it was but the combination of flavors was PHENOMENAL! We had to compliment the chef(s). Our entrees were served within a more than reasonable time frame. My companion had the creamy chicken Alfredo - perfectly creamy by her standards (she only eats Chicken - which is annoying, but Jonathan's version made her happy which is more than I can say about my efforts to do so). I had the blackened Ahi Tuna. Well done! It was so delicious that my companion stole a bit from my plate (remember, she only eats Chicken!!!). The servers were kind, knowledgeable and efficient. All in all it was a pleasant experience, well worth the visit, and on my "YOU'VE GOTTA GO TO JONATHAN'S WHEN YOU ARE IN WILKES-BARRE" list. Job WELL done! Jonathan's has become our favorite place to go for special occasions. We dined there last on Christmas Eve. I had the crab cakes which were fantastic. My family had the Haddock Oscar and I was lucky enough to receive some leftovers. Everyone else was very pleased with their dinner's. My mother and father in law enjoy the traditional fine dining touches like white linens and the owner making his rounds and greeting the customers. It's something they appreciate and respect. Our previous dinner we had a cake ordered and it was awesome. I'd highly recommend calling ahead and ordering one for any special occasion. The five of us decided to try this place on a nice evening knowing that they had a deck. Ordered a burger with no lettuce or tomato and was told by the server that's what it comes with and if I didn't want them, I'd have to take them off myself! really? If you're in Wilkes-Barre, you have to go. I really wasn't expecting much. I'm not from the area and my special lady found the place on a whim. The outside doesn't seem like a restaurant and when you walk in, it's kind of confusing so my expectations sunk even lower. I ordered the Meatball Parm appetizer and she ordered the Potstickers. Both were really REALLY good. For dinner, my son got the Filet Mignon with Mashed Potatoes and broccoli, she got the Short Ribs with Twice Baked Potato and broccoli, and I got the Pork Chop with Twice Baked Potato and broccoli. All of it was amazing. And I don't say that often or lightly. Both the filet and pork chop were surprisingly juicy and tender with great seasoning. The short rib was just a little (only a little) dry (nothing that would make you turn it away) and the seasoning was spot on. It was also so tender, it fell apart on our fork. I wish I could tell you what the dessert was like but we ate so much with the appetizers and entrees that we couldn't fit anything more. At the end of dinner, the owner, Jonathan stopped by the table to ask how dinner was. He really wanted to hear feedback on the meal. An excellent touch. If I'm ever in Wilkes-Barre again, I will be going back to Jonathan's. read more

This was our first date in over a year (since pre-pandemic) so I searched on Yelp in an attempt to make sure it was worth our while. This was also our first time at Jonathan's, and boy was it worth it. When you walk in, it's got a very unique, almost speak easy-type atmosphere. The service was incredibly fast, and outstanding. It's a real group effort type of place, if anyone walked by and noticed our water or bread was in need of replenishment they offered, not just our server. I ordered the sausage lasagna and it was amazing. They fry the noodles somehow and it was like a mix between a noodle and a light airy pastry. The sauce was delicious, and the sausage was a perfect blend of sweet and spicy. My husband had the 28 ounce Delmonico and it was done to perfection, despite being almost 4 inches thick. It was seared and crispy on the outside with a perfect tiered doneness to the Medium center, juicy and flavorful. The Jonathan's Old Fashioned and Dirty Martini we got were nicely made and generous. Their beef and vegetable soup, while more stew-ish IMO, was delicious, especially when paired with their warm flaky bread. The potstickers surprisingly rivaled ones I've had from authentic Japanese restaurants, served on a bed of pickled slaw for a nice touch. After all that, we had no room for dessert. But the flourless chocolate cake was so good even as a takeout the next day, I can't wait to try it fresh! We will 100% be returning to Jonathan's, we were so thrilled with everything. read more

My husband and I went to Jonathan's for the first time this past Saturday and it was fantastic. Everything from the bread at the start of the meal to the coffee at the end was great. We started with the Old Bay Crab and Bucket of Chips. The Old Bay Crab was amazing, huge chunks of lump crab served with a side of butter and a side of old bay seasoning. The house sliced chips and french onion dip were too good to stop eating. My husband got the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes for his entree. The crab cakes were perfectly baked, lump crab with very little filler. For my entree, I had the filet mignon, which nearly melted in my mouth. It was cooked exactly the way I ordered it. And the sides of honey glazed carrots and a baked potato were delicious as well. We will definitely be returning! read more

A group of us attended the "By Land and by Sea" food and wine pairing event. It was a sold out evening. We were quickly greeted by one of the owners who was gracious and made us feel welcomed. It turned out to be a great night. The company was fabulous and the food/ wine delicious. It felt like we were with our family as soon as we walked through the door. This went on through the night. The service was top notch. What was so heartwarming was one of the owners had to turn folks away if they didn't have reservations (we were seated near the entrance). My compliments to the Chef! We had an amazing time relaxing at this lakeside restaurant. The upstairs had live music, the downstairs was a bit more quiet. I had a very bad experience here. My steak was not the correct temperature and considering the price of the meal I was inclined to say something. When I did the waitress was rude and scoffed at the thought of it being over cooked. I felt as though she thought I was just trying to get something for free. However I really just wanted my expensive steak to taste good. She offered to take half off the bill or make Half a steak "cooked less". When she brought the steak out she said "here this one is more rare" with no apology or concern for the original mistake. The replacement was also very below average quality. The menu says prime grade but I personally don't believe that it is. In my opinion both the front of the house and back of the house seem to be sub par. This place became a family favorite last year and we tried out their new menu a few days ago. With their new chef, the updated menu has become even more creative. Wow! Everything was cooked to perfection and melted in our mouths. There wasn't one dish we weren't thrilled about. The restaurant is fairly upscale, yet can still cater to more casual guests. The portion size is large enough that we took our leftovers home (but I think i just did it so I could eat the same meal again!). I had the crab stuffed flounder, (I think) and loved it! They have a wine selection both international and local. (Am I the only one who didn't know there were wines from Wilkes-Barre, Pa?) The waitstaff is always friendly and takes good care of their guests. If you don't want a meal at a table, there is also a classy long bar to sit at. If you are looking for something more casual, upstairs there is another bar with tiki torches and you can sit out on the balcony.
