Confused by all the good reviews. Would not return. Not the worst in the world... but burger came out wrong. Onions when specifically asked for none due to an allergy. Burger was bland, so asked for hot sauce. Brought the wrong hot sauce. Fries were cold and stuck to the paper underneath... ew! Wanted to send it back and get something else however waited over 30 minutes for it. Had to chase down to ask for anything including the check. Service was lackluster. We stopped here for a casual brunch suggested by a family member. We were given the option of indoor or outdoor seating and chose outdoor. We had a beautiful view of the river. Although seated quickly, our waitress was hit or miss. She only came to take our order and give the check. The rest of the outdoor seating seemed to have great service from their waiters so it seemed we were the unlucky table. The bloody Mary's were delicious. We visit River Grille a few times per year. At our last stop it was spur of the moment and around 8pm on a Friday. We actually didn't know about their happy hour so it was a nice surprise. Our server was Corrine M, who was attentive and checked on us every now and again. The one thing we really miss are the steak cut sweet potato fries. I hope they come back again sometime bc the crinkle cut ones are just not the same. No other restaurant had the steak cut ones so they were something different. We chose this restaurant for our Mother's Day celebration and spent nearly $750 for a party of 13, only to leave extremely disappointed. Our reservation was close to the end of buffet service, but that should not excuse the experience we had. Multiple buffet stations were empty or poorly maintained throughout the meal. There were no plates available when several people in our group went up for food. Condiments were completely gone, food items sat empty for extended periods without being replenished, and much of the food that was available was cold and mediocre at best. While our server initially checked on us frequently, she disappeared toward the end of the meal. We eventually had to flag down another server just to get our check. Then came the billing issue. We were charged for 13 adults when our party consisted of 8 adults and 5 children. I didn't notice until I got home and called immediately, only to be met with accusations and defensiveness instead of professionalism. I was essentially told they thought I was trying to claim there were only 8 people total. I clearly stated that there were 8 adults and 5 kids. To make matters worse, I was told refunding the difference could "get them in huge trouble" because the server claimed everyone "looked like adults." I ultimately had to drive back to the restaurant and speak with the owner in person, where I was initially told she had been "misled" by me. Only after reviewing the surveillance footage did they finally apologize and agree to refund the difference. Yes, the overcharge was eventually corrected, but the way the situation was handled left a very bad impression. Being treated as though I was being dishonest over a simple billing mistake was unnecessary and completely unprofessional. For the amount of money spent, this entire experience was unacceptable. Poor food quality, poorly managed buffet service, inattentive staff, incorrect billing, and the way the issue was handled completely overshadowed what was supposed to be a special Mother's Day celebration. read more

Three of us visited here on a Sunday for brunch around noon. Reservations are recommended and they did get busy. They have a great deck to dine on, but we chose indoors as it was hot outside and we didn't need any more work on our tans :) Mike was our server and he immediately came over to take our drink order. We specifically came here for their delicious mimosas. I had a raspberry, my cousin had a loaded mimosa and my other cousin had a regular. They were all fabulous. So fabulous that we kept ordering them and were feeling pretty good by the time our food came out! So. As for the food and the reason for the 2 stars...the brunch menu has plenty to pick from with some unique items. I went for the NY Strip and eggs (eggs ordered over easy). My meal also came with potatoes but I had to add sour dough toast--I mean, I had dippy eggs!! My meal was just ok and I was actually pretty underwhelmed for the $26 price tag. The NY strip, which was only about 3/4 inch thick, was (for the most part) cooked how I ordered it (medium) but had a burnt taste and a lot of grizzle. The potatoes were terrible...dried out and it seemed like they had been sitting under a warming lamp since 6 am...blechhh. I suppose if you put a shit ton of ketchup on them, they COULD be edible.... The eggs were cooked as requested and were good with the toast. My cousin enjoyed her chicken and waffles, which are spicy chicken tenders over a waffle with cinnamon butter and syrup. I ordered the same to go for my fiancé, as I thought he'd like it. I tried some and the chicken tenders were decent and had a nice spicy tang, but the waffle was soggy and chewy--not sure if this was because I got it to go or not. Another awesome family owned restaurant located near the Jazz café, and Kings College. They have a super cool atmosphere and artsy vibe. Both indoor and outdoor dining on the Susquehanna River. It's a nice place; a bit open and has a lovely view of the Susquehanna. The booths were a bit uncomfortable and the leather was ripped which isn't flattering to sit on with shorts. The bathrooms were a little gross but I enjoy stalls you can shut as a door. The prices were normal. The service was okay, it wasn't fast but it wasn't too interactive either so I cannot comment on that. The food was mixed depending on what you get. I got chicken and waffles and it was delicious! The chicken was so tender, the waffles were so soft and good. But then my family member got the RG sandwich and thought it was okay and another family member got another item in which he thought it was not great. for starters the waitress didn't know the beers on draft. once our friend chose a beer they gave him a coors in a bottle instead of a draft. the waitress fixed her mistake with a free draft coors. same friend ordered a hangover burger without the maple sriracha aioli and the tangy burger sauce from the smash burger instead and sweet potato fries. when his order came out his burger was described as a "smash burger with barbecue sauce". he told the waiter he what he ordered and he took it back to fix it. the order then came out with only bacon added, an egg in the bowl on the side, and regular fries. the waiter then said "here's the egg if you wanted it". when our friend complained that his order was still wrong we got nothing in return. plus if you have to pay for extra chips to go with the buffalo chicken dip appetizer the waitress should probably do the customer a favor and give the warning and ask if the extra charge is okay before adding it! read more

The Thai burger was a bit messy to my liking but that's because it's a Thai burger, they get messy, perfect temperature and perfectly cooked so compliments to the chef! I also had a couple of Heinekens and these are necessary little memorabilia. Not much for brunch in Wilkes-Barre but River Grille has a posted menu and so here we are. I'm very much not a Bloody Mary drinker - I can't stand tomato juice - but the Bloody Mary bar with different spices and mixes and add-ons as well as various flavors and brands of vodka is a pretty cool idea. I chose the corned beef has and eggs. What arrived was a super hot skillet (the same thing that they use for fajitas in the Mexican places) with a good portion of potatoes and hash topped with the two poached eggs I ordered. The rye toast was perfect on the side. Quite filling, pretty good service, a good meal and a nice view of the Susquehanna River (through the window - it was iced over today). I'd return. read more

Who woulda thunk it that the RG did such a great brunch!? Saturday afternoon at the RG, sat on the enclosed patio, and had the best veggie omelette ever. It was huge! Also served with potatoes, which were not hot and the only reason I would not offer 5 stars. The food was rather mediocre sorry to say. We had the Buffalo bites appetizer, which was good on flavor but odd on texture. My chicken fajitas were rather bland sadly. The Buffalo chicken Caesar was reportedly good as well as the burger and fries that my son had. Raspberry ice tea was good, as expected.
