Marty's seems to have been a firm family favorite and suggestion to others for....well, since I can remember. Seems like they've been open since the mid-80's, circa my start date as well. I can't really say it's a 'hidden gem' because it's notoriously mentioned in many circles as the "have you ever been to THIS place??" place, but people usually answer YES, with wide eyes and a few memorable dish notes. We went for a mid-week date night, and there was a constant flow of seemingly satisfied diners. The ambiance was warm and cozy, not too dimly lit but very deliberately paced with the huge portions they offer; the service was top-notch, friendly and knowledgeable, always checking back at the right times and knowing what we would need as guests. We ordered several of their suggestions with no reservations, and they delivered. My fiance still talks about that apple cider margarita and it's firmly on the list of not-too-hard-to-make restaurant favorites we roll out for our guests at home. The stuffed mushrooms had a ton of crab meat and far less breading than most, without being saturated or too heavy to start the meal. The salads are certainly slept on; neatly arranged but never the star when pitted up against their hearty steak or cajun offerings, their house salads are hard to beat, unless you're paying up for a meal-type salad. As good as those two items were, the scallops I had with their cracker-encrusted light breading were the epitome of simple, sauteed, buttery-by-nature seafood; they were the best version of scallops like that I've ever had. And the dessert...just perfect for so many reasons; crispy and gooey caramelized bananas, a good amount of vanilla ice cream and the best cinnamony syrup sauce that I couldn't stop lapping up. Tried calling to make a reservation for days now and no one ever answers. Decided to go tonight at 5pm, right when they opened to see if we were able to get a table for two. The woman was incredibly rude. She basically said if we didn't have a reservation then tough luck. Definitely won't be back. I don't take rudeness lightly. I won't recommend this place to anyone I know. Also, it's not a great looking place. I expected something nicer/more upscale for the prices they charge. It's very basic and boring. First time trying and was amazed by how tender the steaks were. I had a medium well filet and my husband had a medium prime rib with the cajun cream crawfish. Both steaks were extremely tender and delicious. We both weren't crazy about the Cajun sauce. I had mild he had hot, but both agree it just takes the flavor away from the great steaks they offer as it is over powering. Not bad just not our style. I will for sure go back and order without the cajun sauce. The mashed potatoes are good. The Cajun pasta I expected to be creamy but it was just butter mixed with cajun seasoning, no cream so I wouldn't order that again. read more

Visiting some friends and had one night to feast. My buddy is a Marty's regular and has been sending photos for years so of course we had to try it. Felt like a family affair from the moment we stepped inside and it was incredible. Started with the gumbo and also had a taste of the rattlers and crab stuffed mushrooms, both of which were divine. The KC strip was cooked to perfection and this Californian says Marty's has the best coleslaw I've ever tasted. Despite being absolutely stuffed, had to try the bananas foster for dessert, which was also incredible. Kudos to Marty's for helping to make my trip to NEPA a memorable one! read more

I'm a steak and potatoes kinda gal and after hearing rave reviews about Marty's steaks, we FINALLY booked a reservation (highly recommended) and had a date night on a Friday evening. We came in through the bar and walked back to the small dining room. This place was nothing like I expected....the best steaks in a "divey" bar??!! Yes folks, it's true!!!!! They had some very festive Christmas decorations up but décor is minor. We were sat at a booth near the back and our server came over to take our drink order and give us menus. The raspberry mule was so good --sweet but not too sweet. I ordered the prime rib with crab on top and hubby ordered chicken parm. We also had the cheesy garlic bread as an appetizer. My prime rib came out perfectly cooked with giant chunks of crab on top. The baked potato had crispy, salty skin (my fave) while being tender and warm on the inside. Butter and sour cream were my toppings of choice and man, my mouth is watering typing this while thinking of all this food all over again!!! I took half of my steak home since I REALLY wanted to try the Bananas Foster -- it's my favorite and you don't find it much in this area. The server told me I could get a half order so yep--I went for it....bloated, full tummy and all. And I wasn't sorry. It was the best darn thing I've put in my mouth in a long time! I couldn't stop eating it....my only complaint is that there should've been MORE sauce on it!!! That stuff is AMAZING!!!! Oh wait, I almost forgot -- hubby really enjoyed his chicken parm and even commented on how good it was and how it was one of the best he's had. We heard a lot of good things about this place over the years and finally decided to give it a try. All in all, a very pleasant experience. It's very unassuming from the outside, with the inside sporting a 60's era long bar in the front with a 12 table/booth seating area in the back...all very cozy and quaint. As for out entrees, we had the Chicken Piccata and DelMonico Steak. Both were delicious and the portions were huge! The steak was very tender and fresh, as all meats are cut fresh on site. They give you two sides with each entree, mine being the baked Potatoe and oven roasted corn. The waitress was very professional and attentive, with other servers chipping in as needed. They do need to update their online menus as they are very outdated. The menu on Yelp lists the Delmonico at $30 and it was actually $45. The Chicken listed at $18, actually $30. It was a bit of a surprise for us as we based our visit partly on the menu prices. Our total bill came to $82, with no drinks or dessert. A little pricey but well worth it. This spot truly was a surprise. First of all, when you see the place it doesn't exactly make you think of quality food well prepared. It seems more like a local hangout for burgers and some beers. It's located in a residential neighborhood of Nantcoke and in fact there were a few locals hanging out and having a few beers. The dining area has both booths and tables and the decor is reminiscent of the early 1980s. The staff is extremely friendly and efficient. Ok, so my wife ordered the Regular Cut Prime Rib and I ordered the Lamb Shank off the specials menu. I was blown away by the quality of the food. My lamb shank was absolutely fantastic over properly prepared mashed potatoes. It truly was delicious. My wife let me taste her prime rib and it was extremely tender with just the right amount of fat and a prefect medium rare. As for desert, we were debating on the Bananas Foster or the Cupcake. We had heard that their desserts are extremely large and decided on the cupcake because we could take it home. WOW. Just WOW. This chocolate and peanut butter cupcake was massive and actually quite good. I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice meal. read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside, street parking only but it's not hard to find a close space. Good beer selection with some local craft beers. This was an outstanding dining experience in a totally unassuming location - the type of hidden gem you'd stumble upon in a big city, but is in a neighborhood in a random Pennsylvania small town. Fine dining quality food in a no-frills, unpretentious, comfortable dining room with great service. Started with the cajun shrimp. It was different than what I was expecting when it was brought out, but it ended up being delicious - that was my first indication that they really know what they're doing here. Side salad was gigantic and fresh. Also got a side of Jambalaya and it was very flavorful. 26 oz KC Strip absolutely stole the show. I've been to some pretty famous steakhouses like Peter Luger and Keen's in NYC, Piccolo Pete's in Omaha (when it was open), John Howie in Seattle and a few places in Vegas. Even at these places, Ordering "Medium Rare" is usually too red and "Medium" is overcooked. Here, I blurted out "Uhh, medium, medium rare?" when asked, and the steak came out to perfection. I ended up eating the entire thing. I wish I had taken a picture - there are so few restaurants that can temp a steak as well as here, and it's not even a steakhouse! My only knock is I wish their selection of scotch and bourbon was a little more broad. Nothing crazy but a few special bottles would have been appropriate and a nice touch. A little place tucked away in a more residential part of Nanticoke/Sheatown, PA, this is another one of those circumstances where you should NOT judge a book by its cover! Marty's is casual restaurant with a handful of booths and tables with an amazing Cajun-inspired menu. Now, by all means, I wouldn't go here for Cajun food but the steaks and seafood are phenomenal. The atmosphere was relatively quiet and the service was excellent. I had the shrimp bisque as my app. It came to the table piping hot. It was truly some of the best I've ever had. A little pricey for what you get at $7 but well worth a try. I would not only recommend it but I would also gladly hand over another $7 for another crock of it! I ordered the seafood sampler with Cajun mashed and garlic bread as my entree. The seafood was incredibly fresh and broiled perfectly. It came with scallops, shrimp, blackened haddock and a home made crab cake that made me feel I was somewhere closer to the inner harbor of Baltimore! Had Bananas Foster for desert. While it, too, was pretty good it was enough for two or maybe even three. I was told all of the deserts come that way. Be careful when ordering desert! They are shareable sized (and priced) portions. Very disappointed. Heard so many good things about this place. Soup was flavorless, fries were soggy, and did not get what I paid for with my Filet. Especially when others in my party got the 5oz filet and crab cake and it was a lot thicker and bigger. Crab cake was dry. But the salad was good and the bruschetta wasn't bad. Great place to have a nice meal at. Garlic bread with melted cheese is a great way to start off your night. Ask for a side of marinara sauce, it's great to dip the bread in. Wine by the bottle, beats paying for the glass. Filet Mignon was so tender and well prepared. I added a lobster tail, that was decorous. The sides are all generous. Salads are not only beautiful but very tasty. The baby carrots with the glaze on top was just perfection. Dessert, = heaven! The banana foster, is enough to share. The atmosphere is casual but cramped. There is little room to move, and the booths are tall and uncomfortable. Definitely make a reservation, especially on weekends. It is tiny. The only place in Northeast PA that can temp a steak. There's not much to complain about. You'll need reservations on most nights because the food is amazing. Parking isn't great. Finally got to take my son here as he has been hearing great things. Once again, a meal that was superb. Pricey, but very good. We never walk out of here with a bill under $200, and that was for 3 of us!! But, as a treat, the food is excellent. We had fillet and crab cake, chicken cordon blue and rib eye. French onion soup for an appetizer. Now I consider myself to be a French onion soup and I would give theirs a 4 out of 5. It wasn't the best, but it was pretty good. As much as I am a fan of Marty's Blue Room, I was on the fence between a 3 or 4 star rating. But, since I'm in a good mood, it gets a 4. Here are some pros and cons. Portion sizes are gigantic. Almost too big at times, you seriously get your money's worth. Dinner entrees come with 2 sides, and if you get a salad as one of your options, be prepared for a meal in itself. The Delmonico steaks are HUGE but delicious. I recommend it with a side of mushrooms and onions. My god...so good. Service is always friendly and helpful except sometimes lingers on the slow side. You can sometimes wait up to 45 minutes for your entrees which is actually very depressing when your starving, but you aren't ever let down when the food arrives. So it's a toss up. Decor is mehh. Boring, plain, bland - nothing fancy. But in a way I like it's low-key vibe considering how delicious the food is even if it's in a house-converted-restaurant. For the area, Marty's is a decent choice. If you want a satisfying meal with tastes of New Orlean's then this is a great find. They have Cajun style food, blackened catfish and tilapia, jambalaya (get in my mouth), and serve really delicous pasta, meat, and seafood dishes. I guess I'm a bit jaded after living in cities where I expect the entire package: great food paired with stellar service and an environment that has a nice ambiance instead of reminding me of a pizza joint/bar. After reading the reviews I had high hopes for this place, not sure if it was just an off night but the place didn't live up to the hype. Got the 20oz delmonico which was burned, the Cajun au jus had no flavor whatsoever. The best part of the meal was the Cajun fries. I love to support small business but unfortunately Longhorn puts them to shame. Whoever says this place is top notch must not travel or get out much.
