    Honey duck
    Sarah S.

We enjoyed a fine dining experience at Jonathan's in Harvey's Lake. We never knew this jewel existed. The food was amazing! The flavors were spot on. The skin on the duck was perfectly crisped. The red skinned roasted mashed potatoes were so decadent, buttery and fluffy! I had the crab cakes. There was NO shortage of meat. I knew it was fresh because there were still some shells in it. I wish there weren't as many as there were. The double baked potato skins were yummy! The peas. They had a creamy sauce on them that actually made the peas taste good!! It was pricey, but for the quality of the meal, it's expected. The service and ambiance left a little to be desired. The servers tried to be nice but came off as short. They weren't (or maybe were but it didn't stick) trained on when to come to the table for clearing or checking in. There were very few actual smiles. Just many short exchanges. Our best exchange was with the owner/ chef. 4-4.5/5, we would definitely come back. The food alone is beyond amazing.

Dim lighting, big comfortable leather chairs, bookshelves lining the walls, a fully stocked bar, and historic photos throughout the space create a classic lodge vibe that feels timeless without being stuffy. It is cozy, polished, and incredibly relaxing. The staff is knowledgeable and clearly takes pride in what they serve. The craft cocktails are well made and thoughtful, and if you prefer beer, there are solid options there too. As a bourbon lover, I especially enjoyed their private barrel pick served neat, a real treat and easily a standout pour. This is a perfect pre-dinner or post-evening stop, we have done both, and it works beautifully either way. Dress is slightly casual but leans upscale, and while pricing is a bit higher than average, it feels completely worth it for the setting, quality, and experience. We sank into the chairs, talked story with friends, and lost track of time, which really says it all. If you are anywhere near Skytop Lodge, make sure this is on your list. Plan extra time, you will want to linger.

We arrived at our scheduled time and were immediately seated at a table with the full view of the lake. However the table was circular and its positioning pinned one person in the "corner" which wouldn't be a big deal had we not been at a buffet style dinner. There was nice background music and the dining area was calm and enjoyable. The layout of the buffet was very minimal and cramped. One long table and another perpendicular to that forming a tight L shape. Soups and salad were on another small table and the desserts on yet another, all in the main corridor of the restaurant. Additionally the dishes were not labeled and what I thought was mushrooms turned out to be Brussel sprouts. Prime rib was not on the menu but it is offered at other times. The pies were not cut and their positioning on risers made getting a slice very difficult. The food was very good and no one left hungry but the cost exceeded the value of the experience.
