I've been meaning to enjoy a burger from Jon's Joint ever since they opened within the past year. My friend was craving burgers and a shake and thought the peak DC humidity in mid-July was the perfect weather to enjoy them. We stopped by last Friday evening for dinner. The interior has a classic retro vibe, as if the joint has been around for 50 years, not less than one. There were plenty of folks enjoying a burger, fries, and shakes. #3 JUICY LUCY - 9.95 + 5 for fries and soda combo + 3.50 to upgrade soda to milkshake If you've never had or heard of a Juicy Lucy before, it's a beef patty stuffed with cheddar cheese (instead of the melted cheese slice on top of the patty) that originated from Minneapolis. This patty was thin, but there was a lot of melted cheese oozing out of every bite I took. The grilled onions were a nice touch, and the buttered potato roll was soft. This was pretty good! The fries were on the blander side and didn't feel deep-fried and overly greasy, which we kind of preferred more to balance out the already greasy smashburger. Our milkshakes didn't come out until 10 minutes after we got our burger and fries. I got the strawberry milkshake, which was incredibly creamy and indulgent, with small chunks of strawberries mixed in. Overall, this hit the spot and satisfied my friend's craving for burgers and shakes. I liked that the food was not overly greasy to the point where I felt absolutely disgusting eating it. However, it's pretty pricy for what it is, given we paid close to $45 after tax for two burger meals and milkshake upgrades. read more

The way everyone raves about this spot, I was sure I'd enjoyed it. It wasn't anything to write home about to me however. The burger is pretty small and the prices are pretty large. The fries aren't particularly special either. I had the #2 combo--okc burger with fries and a water. While the guy at the counter was nice, it unfortunately wasn't enough to boost the food. I enjoyed this fast casual burger spot. We arrived during a power outage and we were surprised to hear the frier still going but this place meant business! We ordered a Jalapeno burger, the classic burger and the chicken burger along with some loaded fries with fried chicken. I have to be honest, the burgers were on the smaller side but they were packed with flavor. I'd rather pay for this well seasoned burger than any bland burger spot around the DMV. I'm still thinking about those loaded fries with fried chicken. My only qualm is that the tables needed to be wiped down. It's good but not a value proposition. Taste wise a 4. Value a 1. You have to eat 4 singles to feel full. Eating anything more than that would be a detriment to your mortgage/rent. I heard about this place and finally made my way to stop. A small place but the vibes were great. I got the classic single and you know a burger is great because it does not need that many toppings. I think it was distracting and if I got it again I would get the OKC burger. I tried the jalapeño burger and that was better than the classic. This is probably the best smashburger I have had in the DMV, in the conversation for best burger in the DMV. The fries were solid and the kitkat shake was ok but I would prefer oreo. When I think of my local smash burger spot, I think of Jon's Joint. I've gotten it delivered twice and ordered in person twice. I've tried the classic, the juicy lucy, and the okc. I'm torn between the classic and juicy lucy for my favorites. Overall a solid place, service is quick, and they've got a movie playing in the spot if you're posting up to eat. This generated a lot of hype on social media but I gotta say, it's not worth the hype. The burger is small and even though they warned me against just 1 patty, it's expensive for what it is. Sure the patties are crispy, but aside from that, it's not too different for a normal burger. I paid nearly $12 for this single patty burger and waited over half an hour to get my burger. At first I thought it was because they were just wrapping up a large party ahead of us, but it seems to be a normal occurrence from the other reviews here. Decided to stop here after work for some eats, here are the details! It's located right beside a pharmacy and they shared a parking lot, so parking wasn't an issue for me. The ambiance is pretty no frills, think a classic burger joint. I honestly like it, gave me nostalgic vibes . But let's get into it! First things first, I consider myself a burger connoisseur! I love a great, well made, flavorful burger situation. I had heard good things about this place but of course had to check it out for myself. I was in a hurry to get home so decided to have my meal to-go, so my notes on service are that my meal was ready in a timely manner and the staff was very, very friendly and welcoming. The cashier was very knowledgeable about the menu(sorry, forgot the gentleman's name) and when I told him what I liked in a burger, he gave me the suggestion to try the #3 Lucy's Combo (double patties) w/ straight-cut fries. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! So this burger comes with grilled onions on top (shown in pics) which is something I always love. They were perfectly grilled and a great compliment to this burger. But something else really interesting about this was that with the Lucy, there is cheese actually inside of the patty! I was skeptical at first but kept an open mind and I'm really glad I did. This was absolutely delicious. The only thing to be careful about if you're extra sensitive to sodium is that because the cheese is inside, it's probably a bit more salty than the normal burger. But in my opinion it's not off putting at all. The patties were perfectly cooked and flavorful, just the right amount of mayo, my burger was piping hot and fresh, and it felt like I really got a food experience here! The only thing I'll say that can be improved here is the size of the buns they use for this mammoth of a burger. The buns were on the smaller side so it was a little hard to hold (especially since it was so hot) . So I think if they use slightly larger buns this would be the perfect situation. The fries were perfect as well, fresh and just the right amount of seasoning. I also had a Mango milkshake (sorry, not pictured) and my goodness. Run, don't walk! Overall this is definitely one of the best burgers I've had in the area and I'll be back soon! read more

Jon's Joint is a very good smash burger experience. The setting on the inside is very casual with vibrant and creative pop culture art. You can tell the food is made with fresh ingredients. Especially the beef. The smash burger quality is very consistent. Although the takeout operation is very good, I recommend dining in for a much better experience with a high quality burger. I also recommend the double patty because the single, in my opinion, is just too small. My only disappointment here is the inconsistent cook on the fries. Again, dining in might be the difference. Virtually, every time I order fries to-go, they are overcooked. As a quality control measure, I've always consumed my to-go order in the car, outside of the restaurant, immediately. Note: on Fridays and weekends the inside gets packed, so I eat in the car. However, the fries were perfect when I dined in. Overall a very good experience and I will continue to prioritize this place for my smash burger fix. read more

Excellent smash burger, juicy, fresh, piping hot and melty cheese. Well seasoned and carefully charred onions made this more of a homemade taste. The bun was nice and soft like a potato roll should be, though I recommend eating it in house as it could get soggy. The fries tasted fresh cut, and perfectly crispy. There isn't much parking and the coziness of the place would be crowded, but a good burger joint will have all the right condiments as they did. Readily available mayo, ketchup, mustard and salt n pepper shakers. A nice addition is the old bay, which I seasoned my fries with. The service was exceptionally quick, as I was behind one person in the order line. The decor was spectacular as it had a lot of retro vibes as well as urban art. I usually stick to healthier meals, but it was cheat day so I dropped by this hole in the wall smash burger spot on Glebe Rd. I ordered the #5 Jalapeño Burger with two patties and made it a meal for an extra $5. The food came out relatively fast. The burger was on potato bread and, while not the sexiest looking burger, it hit the spot. The pepper jack cheese was a nice touch, and the spice level was just right - not overpowering. It was a bit oily turning the wrapping paper translucent which was a bit much. But hey, it's cheat day. The fries were hottt. Clearly fresh out the fryer. Honestly, they tasted better after I got home and let them cool a bit. Nice touch with the Old Bay shaker at the self serve counter along with malt vinegar if you're into that. Fries were solid. Next time I'm in the mood for a smash burger, I'll probably try the Juicy Lucy - recommended by the cashier and stuffed with cheddar cheese inside the patty. I've been here twice. The first time I ate there & the second time I got food for takeout. The food overall is good. Eating it there is a better option. When I got it for takeout, it wasn't as good. I'm unsure if it's because the food was not as warm or just that day the food wasn't as tasty. I do recall when I got the food for takeout only one person was working, so unsure if that has anything to do with the quality of the food. The ambiance at the restaurant itself is very chill. A delicious, meaty-tasting burger. This was my first visit and I figured I would go with their strength. That was their Classic Double. The only change I made was to leave off the lettuce. For me, with these kinds of sandwiches it doesn't add much if any flavor and makes a structurally unsound sandwich even less sound. And, in keeping with leaning into strengths, I paired my sandwich with an Oreo milkshake. Anyway, I've had smash-style burgers in the past and this was the best of the bunch. It outside was done perfectly, with just a hint of crunchiness while the inside, though thin, was still moist and flavorful. You just have to remember to keep it in its paper pouch if you want any hope of having it remain a sandwich throughout your meal. For me, it stayed together from the first delicious bite to the last. As for logistics, I got lucky... There was an available parking space in their small lot. Inside, there were only about a dozen people in line. Even so, it only took about five minutes for them to take my order and another ten or so for me to get my food. Finally, as good as was the burger, the shake was even better. Who knew? read more

The beef is actually seasoned amazingly without doing too much and the char grilled on the Pattie is yummy. It's not one of those burger spots that's only good because of the condiments and sauces on the burger, it is actually really good. I heard great things about this place so I came to check it out. The front of the store isnt very recognizable. I have definitely passed by the location many times and I didnt even notice it was there! When I got inside, the staff were very nice and friendly, they told me they hope I enjoy the food, and yes I did. I got the OKC Burger - and what I really loved about this burger was that it wasnt a greasy smash burger at all, it was fresh and very flavorful with not alot of grease if at all. Single burger will run you $8.95 at the shop, however they do not have their own online ordering, so you have to order through grubhub etc. And they are tacking on a hefty 30% markup on this, so best just to walk in. But be advised, YOU WILL BE WAITING a long while. So, order first and come back later. This is just a smash burger, so it should only take five minutes to cook. Not sure how they managed to stretch that to 25 minutes. Standard setup - theres a counter and five guys (hey, just like five guys!) back there grilling. Simple. Service is ok but not friendly. Burger is basically fresh and ok, bun is good, however would recommend you avoid the american cheese (its awful) and the special sauce (its awful). We ordered the #3 double with a strawberry milkshake. The fries were delightfully crispy, and the burger was smashed to perfection. The place was filled just moments after open, but luckily there are several parking spaces just in front of the restaurant so there usually won't be an issue finding parking. We will definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys smash burgers and casual vibes! read more
