I was supposed to go to the Beverly hills location of Jon & Vinny's last week but my plans changed and I was very bummed since I heard the food is amazing. I then was here in town and was able to stop into the slauson location. I ordered my food online, ran a couple errands and then stopped in to pick up my food. That was very easy process. I got the meatballs and I got a pasta dish. I couldn't wait to get everything and everything so amazing. The parking lot isn't the biggest here but it was the middle of the day so I was able to find a spot but yet the restaurant was still really busy. Came to Jon and Vinny's before a concert at Sofi! We were able to snag a reservation but only bar sitting available and it can get pretty tight at the bar. Our server was great, checked in on us constantly and everything came out pretty quickly. We tried the lemonades and classic bruschetta to start, both got pasta - the spicy fusilli and the cacio e Pepe. The spicy fusilli always hits, I can never not order a spicy vodka pasta. For dessert we shared the cheesecake which was perfect to share with a great contrast with the tart cherry topping. Overall a great meal at Jon and Vinny's. So...I think this just became my favorite mid-week/mid-day "coffice" spot. No, there's no public WiFi BUT they are laptop friendly, plenty of power outlets , and a small but ON POINT selection of local craft beers and wines. I don't mind using my hotspot if you got good food and drank to keep me going. Short review: amazing service, great food, good drinks, fire music. Inside can feel tight when it's booked, appreciate the countertop section. Outside for the win (weather permitting). Small private parking lot, neighborhood parking plentiful. Great staff. I ordered, garlic bread, hass avocado toast with olive oil and lemon with crushed red chili peppers, ricotta, orange blossom honey and toasted sesame, spicy fusili, vodka, basil and parmesan, spaghetti limone and parmesan cheese, rigatoni, six hour beef bolognese and parmesan. All the dishes were good and had great flavor. The portion sizes were large enough and priced accordingly. However, the garlic bread although good was a bit overly cooked and did have a somewhat burnt taste. The staff were great and was very attentive throughout my entire meal. The establishment has an outside dining area which, is well lit and can accommodate a good size group. There's also a large wine cellar stocked with a myriad of wines to accompany any dish. One of the worst Italian Restaurants I've eaten in LA that says a lot because there's lots of bad Italian restaurants in LA . First of all they are very overpriced for the quality and portion of food they serve you . The staff there is not very experienced or knowledgeable in their own food . The pasta was over cooked the pizza was absolutely burnt the dough tasted like charcoal all of it I tasted was burnt to a horrible crisp . The chopped salad was not chopped at all it was a regular salad with a disgusting dressing too salty and too much garlic and I love garlic not edible at all . We love a business that not only serves great food, but also does great work within the community. Found out about this place through SZA's not charity initiative . I was fortunate to be able to try their Brooklyn dodger pizza which is basically a margarita pizza that is extremely delicious!!! I'm a big fan of Il Fornaio's margarita pizza but this might be my new favorite . To note with Il Fornaio's Margarita I always have to add extra basil and extra oregano but with this pizza, it was perfect without any modifications especially with the thinly sliced garlic. It's easy to drive by this place. It has a small parking lot and a neon green sign. It's worth a try as the food is good and it's a busy trendy place. The Spicy Fusilli was the stand out. The pizza making classes are fun and perfect for a medium sized group! My coworkers and I all attended a fun pizza making class here where we all got to make our own pizza complete with a tutorial and all the standard fixins :) Overall it was a great experience - our instructor was kind/patient and walked us all through how to spread out and toss the dough into the pizza shape. They provided an array of different topping options from different types of cheeses (mozzarella, smoked mozzarella, ricotta) to meats and veggies. They also brought out homemade ranch and buffalo sauce for us to use as sauces. Both were a big hit among the group and I especially liked the ranch a lot. The whole process took about 3 hrs but that also included wine, appetizers, and dessert for our group. I really enjoyed the pizza I made and it was fun seeing everyone's pizza come out the oven. The desserts were also very good (the tiramisu was my favorite). One thing I noticed about the cannoli was that they don't fully fill the inside in the middle with cream. Not a huge deal but something to be aware of if you want a nice stuffed cannoli. The only downside is that the class takes place outdoors in their parking lot and there are no chairs to sit after you make your pizza. It can get cold at night so make sure to bring a jacket. The parking can also be tough here since the lot is very small but there is some neighborhood parking behind the restaurant, just make sure you read the signs. read more

This is my favorite place to get dinner before going to a concert at the Sofi or neighboring auditoriums. It's the perfect place to get a quality meal and a pre-concert glass of wine or cocktail. My favorite is the Bolognese over polenta. The desserts never look too exciting for me so I have yet to try them. The noise level is pretty high so keep that in mind if you're with a crowd that doesn't like a noisy restaurant. The staff is always friendly and attentive and can make some great wine suggestions as well. I always recommend making a reservation ahead of time so you don't have to wait. read more

Went here last night for a friend's bday dinner. We ordered a wine bottle, where we noticed there was $50 corkage fee. Crazy work. We made a reservation and were sat down immediately when our party arrived. We ordered a gem lettuce salad for appetizer and the ricotta honey bread, which wasnt what i was expecting, it was just okay. Then we ordered a roman gladiator pizza which was also okay and i think my favorite dish of the night was the spicy fusili. For dessert, we were suggested the strawberry shortcake which was okay. Our server was great, she was attentive along with the server that was training with her, the place wasnt too busy on a Wed night and I appreciate the parking situation greatly. We sat inside the restaurant, i noticed they had outdoor seating, and it was uncomfortably hot inside. I think another guest complained because eventually they turned the A/C on. Overall, it was a good experience and I would be interested in trying different foods. This spot hits every time. Parking is a bust most of the time; which has caused me to go elsewhere half of the time. I usually get the Polenta Bolognese and Pepperoni Pizza. Both are rich and delicious, paired with an iced tea, and Affogato for dessert. You cant go wrong. The benches are hard which is a negative due to me having lower back pains. Let me preface by saying this 1-star review is specifically for the server tonight named "Grace," and NOT to the restaurant as a whole. Some context - Jon and Vinny's (specifically this location too) is of one of our favorite restaurants and we have been here countless of times. Our reservation was at 9PM, they close at 10, but we were NOT the last people to come in. We were seated in the outside patio, where Grace was assigned to for this night. There were already 4-5 other tables occupied by the time we were seated. NOT ONCE did Grace bother to check in on us and asked if we needed anything. She deliberately chose to ignore us for whatever reason, when we had no prior interaction with her to warrant her disrespect. It was only until about ~15-20 mins after sitting down, a guy with the khaki overalls (sorry I didn't get your name), finally decided to come over and help us. THE ENTIRE TIME WE DINED AND ATE, nothing. Grace had no problem being friendly and helped everyone around us. But us, nope. Cold shoulder for no reason. The only reason why I got her name? One solo diner sat behind us, 30 or so mins after we sat down, and Grace was so cordial and willing to help her no problem. Literally an hour passed after dining there, does Grace FINALLY take an empty plate off our table that I set aside. But regardless, she still DOES NOT say anything to me/us after grabbing it. After being fed up with her negligence, I purposely made it a point to ask the guy with the khaki overalls how the tips worked, so I can ensure it went to him for actually helping us. Unfortunately it was gonna be split with the whole staff, which was such a bummer. I think it was then that Grace finally got the hint and made sad attempts to try and help us with bringing us a to go bag and specifically bringing our card/check back after payment. But by then it was too late, the damage was already done and the experience overall was so trash. Thank you again, to the guy in the khaki overalls and guy with the long hair who brought our food (and actually gave us extra napkins) for the help while there. Thank you Grace for giving us one of the worst experiences at literally one of our favorite restaurants. We're thankful the food was still good, because after that experience with you, we probably wouldn't come back at all. read more

I work in pizza and I am on a personal pizza journey. Trying the top rated pizza in LA along with suggestions from people I meet along the way. The first time I went to Jon and Vinny's I went to the Fairfax location and had an incredible experience. My focus when I went was pasta and this was a little over a year ago. I don't even remember what the pasta tasted like but I remember the service and ambiance from that location. I wish I could say the same about the Slauson location. What I will remember about my visit 2 nights ago will be the food, not the service. Was it bad service? No. But it was weird from start to finish. We had a 9:30 reservation and the closed at 10, on their website they had reservations available until 945. The paged us at 8:30 saying our table was ready. When we got there at 9:30 we still had to wait for them to get our table ready. I didn't think this is the type of restaurant that was gonna make me feel like I have overstayed my welcome, based on them taking reservations up until 945, but almost immediately after finally sitting down they're telling us they're doing last call while cleaning the tables around us. After all of that energy making us feel like we needed to hurry up when we were ready to cash out our server had entirely disappeared and we had to wait until the host came and asked if we needed anything else and I told her no we are still just waiting to cash out. I tried the vanilla bean soda, it tasted flat and like it was made with sugar free syrup. Not a fan. The highlight was the food. Our first pizza was brought to us and felt like it had been sitting before they ran it to us. It was not nearly as hot as I expected it to be, which I considered to be a service issue not a kitchen issue. The 2nd pizza was perfect. We got a Little Nats and a White Lighting. Incredible, awesome topping combinations, the crust was nicely cooked and had a great flavor, high-quality cheese. I 100% will be back, the kitchen team at this location really nailed it and saved my whole experience. When I return to try more pizza on my second round of pizza tasting, I'm definitely stopping back at Jon and Vinny's. However, I'll return to the Fairfax location, or maybe try one of the others. If I come back to Slauson, I'll probably just sit at the bar or get takeout. Shout up to the awesome cooks who made me wanna come back and try every pizza! read more

Ordered take out 2 nights in a row. The rigatoni bolognese ($26) is that girl ! So good and filling. The woodfire steak ($33) is very flavorful! The onions and the sweet balsamic vinegar sauce give it the perfect balance. I wish the steak was bigger but it's so melt in your mouth soft!!!!! Even after a 1-hour car ride. The woodfire broccolini ($17) has a delicious sauce that makes me want to reverse engineer the recipe (still working on it). It doesn't have the best smell from the box, but trust me it's very good. I had the pizza and chicken Parmesan a few years ago and they were both good. I'll need to try them again to refresh my memory. The wings are also on my list of things to try. This place is a bit pricey, but if you don't mind spending the money, then you'll enjoy the food. The food is very comforting, but also high quality ingredients cooked well. I've been to several Jon & Vinny's locations, and one thing that remains consistent at every location is their good service and quality ingredients! I've tried their Spicy Vodka Fusilli, Rigatoni Bolognese, Gem Salad, and Brooklyn Dodger Pizza. The Gem Salad was very filling and its portion definitely makes the dish shareable. The calabrian chili dressing gives it a nice kick, and the lettuce tasted fresh. I love how the pizza has a crispy crust and each slice had immense flavor from the basil tomato sauce and the mozzarella cheese. In my opinion, the Rigatoni stood out WAY more than the spicy vodka fusilli. The beef was nicely seasoned and the pasta was cooked al dente. The fusilli had a nice spice, but I wish they had the option to add meat to it. (No substitutions for all their dishes). For the price, I also do wish the pasta dishes had a bigger portion! Parking is convenient, and it's always easy to get a reservation on the day of at any of their locations. You have the option to either sit at the bar, booth, or a table. I've wanted to try Jon & Vinny's for years, but never got the opportunity to until this weekend. And wow! We made a reservation about an hour before and were seated around that time on a Saturday evening, for a party of four. The inside is cute with lots of ambiance lighting. We tried their garlic bread, two pizzas (Brooklyn Dodger and White Lighting), and two pastas (Spicy Fusilli and Corn Agnolotti). All four of us finished everything, but I think if the portions were a little bigger, especially the pasta, that would've been perfect. However, everything was delicious. There was not one item that did not hit the spot. My favorites were the garlic bread, Spicy Fusilli, and Corn Agnolotti pastas. But honestly, everything was sooo good I'm not over it. Our server gave us some great recommendations and great service too, which added to our experience. Love the Slauson location because it's so close to my house. The spicy fusilli is always my go-to. I wish the portion size was larger for the price point but my last take out order seemed bigger so I appreciate that. Parking is kinda crazy and I'm pretty sure the locals will call it in if you park in the residential. The gem lettuce is a personal favorite and that's coming from someone who's not a salad lover. The Shirley temple is refreshing and the tiramisu is excellent but it does get pricey pretty quickly especially with the added service fees. Definitely keep that in mind and don't be surprised at the bill when it comes. You can sit indoors or at the outdoor patio and I want to try their different items on the breakfast menu. read more

Fried calamari, that's it, that's the order, that's the move, a must! Came here for a cute lil date day as it has been on our foodie list for quite some time. We didn't really know what to expect and we were pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was nice and the staff were friendly. Light crispy batter with tender interior, dipped in both dipping sauces, fire! My bf and I really enjoyed it. As for the pasta I went with the cavatelli and the sausage with the breadcrumbs make the dish, I liked the texture of the pasta, it had a good chew. Jon & Vinny's has become one of my go-to spots -- my brother and I have been here more times than I can count, and the food *never* disappoints. The wings, the gem lettuce, and of course the spicy fusilli are absolute must-orders. Every dish is consistently delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. The only reason I can't give a full five stars is the service. It's always a bit of a hit or miss, not just for me but also for friends and my husband who've joined on different visits. Sometimes it's great, and other times it feels inattentive or oddly off. I'm not sure if the inconsistency is because the restaurant can get crowded at certain times (even though we usually go early), or if there's something else going on -- whether it's age, vibes, or something we can't quite put our finger on. Whatever the cause, it can leave the experience feeling uneven. That said, the food keeps us coming back. If you haven't been, definitely go -- and don't leave without trying the wings, the gem lettuce salad, and the spicy fusilli. Those alone are worth the trip. read more

I love going there for breakfast. The pancakes are the best...they are still great if you take them home and reheat them or eat them cold. My complaint is that I can be sitting at one of two or three tables in the place when I get there at 10am and it still takes over 30 minutes to get my food!!!! This is a regular occurrence. The last time I was there, the servers had taken all orders (there was one group of 2 on the patio and my group of three inside and another group of two came in later) and after 1/2 hour, they just stood at the kitchen waiting for the food. There is a manager on-site, but she seems to be afraid to say anything. I've never seen her go near the kitchen. This place is pretty expensive and there is no excuse for how slow the kitchen is. It is very frustrating. Do not go here for breakfast if you have hangry tendencies. I suggest eating a little something before you go, which is sad. read more
