Came to celebrate a friend's birthday. What a great time! Recommended by the birthday girl. We had a bunch of stuff: App: they didn't have anymore fried zucchini but they offered the fried spring onion, eggplant parm, Pasta: pasta de olio, Polenta: mushroom and kale, pizzas: the gladiator, margarita, and mushroom. It definitely wasnt cheap, which if I had any complaint, might be that its a lil over priced... The food was all awesome! The spring onions were hot n crispy. The lil remoulade sauce was tangy with a lil heat. I personally love polenta n mushrooms n kale so I that. The eggplant parm was good! Crispy, cheesy, creamy! I was talking to the waiter cuz the pasta was great...i had asked if the pastas were made in house or brought in fresh frozen...he informed me its all made in house . And the pizzas! Awesome. I personally like more NY style, chewier crust...but these neopolitan, itallian style pizzas were great. Thin, lil chewy, crispy, fresh ingredients. All come in 12" pies. Lil loud for a date place but its nice. Well lit. Modern. Lucky we were here on a Monday. Parking lots small, I can only imagine how crazy it can b on the weekend. Props to our server! There's minimal seating inside and a few outside. They do take reservations so make one in advanced. Service was fast and food comes randomly when its done cooking so dont expect appetizers to come before entrees. It's easy to drive by this place. It has a small parking lot and a neon green sign. It's worth a try as the food is good and it's a busy trendy place. The Spicy Fusilli was the stand out. The Gem Salad was good too. The Cavatelli and Roman Gladiator pizza were good, but I probably wouldn't get those again. It's small and modern with clean light wooden booths. We love a business that not only serves great food, but also does great work within the community. Found out about this place through SZA's not charity initiative . I was fortunate to be able to try their Brooklyn dodger pizza which is basically a margarita pizza that is extremely delicious!!! I'm a big fan of Il Fornaio's margarita pizza but this might be my new favorite . To note with Il Fornaio's Margarita I always have to add extra basil and extra oregano but with this pizza, it was perfect without any modifications especially with the thinly sliced garlic. That comes with it . I'm so glad to have found this place as it's it's more local to me !! Check them out ! read more

The pizza making classes are fun and perfect for a medium sized group! My coworkers and I all attended a fun pizza making class here where we all got to make our own pizza complete with a tutorial and all the standard fixins :) Overall it was a great experience - our instructor was kind/patient and walked us all through how to spread out and toss the dough into the pizza shape. They provided an array of different topping options from different types of cheeses (mozzarella, smoked mozzarella, ricotta) to meats and veggies. They also brought out homemade ranch and buffalo sauce for us to use as sauces. Both were a big hit among the group and I especially liked the ranch a lot. The whole process took about 3 hrs but that also included wine, appetizers, and dessert for our group. I really enjoyed the pizza I made and it was fun seeing everyone's pizza come out the oven. The desserts were also very good (the tiramisu was my favorite). One thing I noticed about the cannoli was that they don't fully fill the inside in the middle with cream. Not a huge deal but something to be aware of if you want a nice stuffed cannoli. The only downside is that the class takes place outdoors in their parking lot and there are no chairs to sit after you make your pizza. It can get cold at night so make sure to bring a jacket. The parking can also be tough here since the lot is very small but there is some neighborhood parking behind the restaurant, just make sure you read the signs. read more

Went here last night for a friend's bday dinner. We ordered a wine bottle, where we noticed there was $50 corkage fee. Crazy work. We made a reservation and were sat down immediately when our party arrived. We ordered a gem lettuce salad for appetizer and the ricotta honey bread, which wasnt what i was expecting, it was just okay. Then we ordered a roman gladiator pizza which was also okay and i think my favorite dish of the night was the spicy fusili. For dessert, we were suggested the strawberry shortcake which was okay. Our server was great, she was attentive along with the server that was training with her, the place wasnt too busy on a Wed night and I appreciate the parking situation greatly. We sat inside the restaurant, i noticed they had outdoor seating, and it was uncomfortably hot inside. I think another guest complained because eventually they turned the A/C on. Overall, it was a good experience and I would be interested in trying different foods. So when I saw Jon & Vinny's opening in Windsor, it immediately felt like another sign of the gentrification happening in the area, so I was definitely curious about what the experience would be like. The ambiance was decent, though the music felt very intentionally curated for the neighborhood, which was a bit funny to notice. The menu is pricey, nearly $30 for a pizza, with sauces costing extra. I've been to several Jon & Vinny's locations, and one thing that remains consistent at every location is their good service and quality ingredients! I've tried their Spicy Vodka Fusilli, Rigatoni Bolognese, Gem Salad, and Brooklyn Dodger Pizza. The Gem Salad was very filling and its portion definitely makes the dish shareable. The calabrian chili dressing gives it a nice kick, and the lettuce tasted fresh. I love how the pizza has a crispy crust and each slice had immense flavor from the basil tomato sauce and the mozzarella cheese. In my opinion, the Rigatoni stood out WAY more than the spicy vodka fusilli. The beef was nicely seasoned and the pasta was cooked al dente. The fusilli had a nice spice, but I wish they had the option to add meat to it. (No substitutions for all their dishes). For the price, I also do wish the pasta dishes had a bigger portion! Parking is convenient, and it's always easy to get a reservation on the day of at any of their locations. You have the option to either sit at the bar, booth, or a table. I've wanted to try Jon & Vinny's for years, but never got the opportunity to until this weekend. And wow! We made a reservation about an hour before and were seated around that time on a Saturday evening, for a party of four. The inside is cute with lots of ambiance lighting. We tried their garlic bread, two pizzas (Brooklyn Dodger and White Lighting), and two pastas (Spicy Fusilli and Corn Agnolotti). All four of us finished everything, but I think if the portions were a little bigger, especially the pasta, that would've been perfect. However, everything was delicious. There was not one item that did not hit the spot. My favorites were the garlic bread, Spicy Fusilli, and Corn Agnolotti pastas. But honestly, everything was sooo good I'm not over it. Our server gave us some great recommendations and great service too, which added to our experience. I only took off one star for portion sizes, but that's a nitpicky thing for a place that's been around for so long! I wish I got to take photos, but we devoured everything! Love the Slauson location because it's so close to my house. The spicy fusilli is always my go-to. I wish the portion size was larger for the price point but my last take out order seemed bigger so I appreciate that. Parking is kinda crazy and I'm pretty sure the locals will call it in if you park in the residential. The gem lettuce is a personal favorite and that's coming from someone who's not a salad lover. The Shirley temple is refreshing and the tiramisu is excellent but it does get pricey pretty quickly especially with the added service fees. Definitely keep that in mind and don't be surprised at the bill when it comes. You can sit indoors or at the outdoor patio and I want to try their different items on the breakfast menu. read more

Genuinely I don't know how this place is top rated. Came here twice. The first time I had amazing customer service but the food didn't wow me. Came again because I thought maybe the first time was a fluke. The second time was worst. The customer service sucked, asked for water multiple times and they brought it out after I was almost done with my food. We ordered a gem salad to share, we ordered spicy fusilli and chicken parm. Spicy fusilli came out first and for the price the portion size is a joke and it literally tasted so bad it tasted like a less sour version of spaghetti o's. After I'm literally almost done with it which was maybe 15 min later the chicken parm came out. Will never return unless I really want that gem salad but for pasta never again. read more

Fried calamari, that's it, that's the order, that's the move, a must! Came here for a cute lil date day as it has been on our foodie list for quite some time. We didn't really know what to expect and we were pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was nice and the staff were friendly. I really enjoyed that they give you crayons to color your placemat as you wait for your food! Fun! Now as for the food, literally the calamari is what sold me. Light crispy batter with tender interior, dipped in both dipping sauces, fire! My bf and I really enjoyed it. As for the pasta I went with the cavatelli and the sausage with the breadcrumbs make the dish, I liked the texture of the pasta, it had a good chew. My bf went with the popular spicy fusilli and it was delicious, we get why every other person was ordering that. I definitely want to go back and try more of their dishes as well as some dessert! Jon & Vinny's has become one of my go-to spots -- my brother and I have been here more times than I can count, and the food *never* disappoints. The wings, the gem lettuce, and of course the spicy fusilli are absolute must-orders. Every dish is consistently delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. The only reason I can't give a full five stars is the service. It's always a bit of a hit or miss, not just for me but also for friends and my husband who've joined on different visits. Sometimes it's great, and other times it feels inattentive or oddly off. I'm not sure if the inconsistency is because the restaurant can get crowded at certain times (even though we usually go early), or if there's something else going on -- whether it's age, vibes, or something we can't quite put our finger on. Whatever the cause, it can leave the experience feeling uneven. That said, the food keeps us coming back. If you haven't been, definitely go -- and don't leave without trying the wings, the gem lettuce salad, and the spicy fusilli. Those alone are worth the trip. read more

Definitely one of my to-go for pizza and pasta, and still my #1 for Cavatelli. I first figured out about it when trying to find for dinner options around Brentwood and bumped into an article saying they're Kardashian and Kanye's to-go. So obviously being curious, I paid a visit and since then have been frequent visitor to their various outlets. The Slauson one probably was the easiest to get seats, but early reservations would surely be the secure option. Most venues had similar ambience for me, neither too formal nor too casual. My rotational list were: Meatballs (7.5/10) Ricotta Toast (8/10) Cavatelli (9/10) Ham and Eazy (8.5/10) If you came in bigger groups, surely go for all and share. The meatballs were great starter for sharing, but could be pretty filling for two. Savory meatballs served in nice tomato-based sauce with toast as companion. The ricotta toast was my option when I had brunch and wanna had sweet touch within the set. Creamy ricotta on toast, drizzled with honey, serving great duo of sweet and cheesy flavors. Their Cavatelli was certainly my recommended pasta to have there with generous fennel sausage toppings, further elevated by extra texture from the breadcrumbs to enjoy with your al dente pasta. I did love the idea to mix this with kale, cause yeah you needed your veggie intake ;) I did have some options usually for the pizza, from Roman Gladiator which was their kind of meat lovers to the Ham and Eazy which used to be named Ham and Yeezy lol. As the name said, it combined smoked ham with vodka sauce, caciocavallo, and smoked mozzarella. I loved how it featured sweet and spicy together with flavorful scent of red onions. Delicious! I was able to snag a reservation for a Saturday night, party of 4, with fairly short notice. We showed up early, our bad, and they couldn't seat us yet- we totally understood. We tried to walk around the neighborhood but there wasn't much open or anything to see (our fault again, we were visiting and picked this location due to proximity to our hotel). We came back in on time for our reservation, and sadly they couldn't seat us right away. We actually stood there for about 20 minutes as many parties of 2 that kept coming in were seated first. It was confusing because there seemed to be many tables open on the patio, and even 4 seats in a row at the bar. I wish we had been offered an alternative. Finally, one of our party asked if there was a problem with our reservation, and it was explained to us that the party before us hadn't yet left, exceeding the time usually allotted. They finally asked them to leave (which was above and beyond, in my opinion) and we were seated. To apologize for the wait, they sent over complimentary garlic bread and a delicious salad of lettuce, zucchini, and hazelnuts in a lemon vinaigrette. Once again, I thought this was going above and beyond and really made me feel warmly towards the restaurant and the wonderful servers. The only thing I would suggest is that the staff could have explained to us why there was a delay before my friend asked. We were totally understanding, but it felt awkward to be standing in the small entry as the hosts avoided eye contact with us and continued to seat people who had come in after us. Anyway, enough of that. Moving on to the food. Aside from the delicious starters, I was lucky enough to order the garlic buffalo wings and the eggplant parmigiana. I LOVED those wings! They will appear in my dreams. If I went back, I would just order those and that heavenly salad with the zucchini. The eggplant parmigiana was also delicious. My husband enjoyed his pizza and we definitely had leftovers to take back to our hotel. So glad this place was recommended to me! read more

So i got chicken, it was delicious but hubby ordered pepperoni pizza and i had a slice and OMG!! the flavor of the crust was so delicious. I held off on writing this review thinking the first visit was a fluke, but after 3 reservations, there's an unfortunate pattern of poor customer service. This review is about our third reservation, but the feedback is similar for the first 2 visits as well. My wife and I visited for an early dinner on a Sunday, and there were only a few people in the restaurant. It was mostly empty. Our server was kind and welcoming, and we placed our order quite quickly. He didn't write anything down. He had to then return to our table 2 times to re-confirm the order. We waited 45 minutes, and after finally flagging a server that our order hadn't come out yet, they put a rush order on it. Multiple other tables that arrived after us already had their meals. About an hour after sitting down, the wrong food came out. They re-submitted the order to the kitchen, and 10 min later the wrong order came out yet again. Keep in mind me only ordered 1 salad, 1 pasta, and 1 pizza. Someone from management then came out and apologized and said our bill would be taken care of. Upon receiving the bill, they had only taken the lowest cost item off the bill. The only saving grace was the food was delicious, but after waiting over 75min for a relatively small and simple order with inconsistency in their commitment for resolution and the reality of the discount we received, it's hard to imagine a world where we'll be returning. read more

Came on a Saturday for a 7:15pm reservation & almost missed it because we couldn't find parking. Their lot was full & street parking was limited. After a few rounds of the neighborhood we found a space across the street. We were greeted by a friendly host & since our table was being turned, we stood waiting. No seats to rest. The dining hall is casual with a hip vibe. Counter seating is available in front of the open kitchen. The kitchen staff efficiently prepped take-out & dine in orders. It was really fun watching them. We ordered 2 appetizers, 2 pastas & 2 pizzas paired with an orange wine. It was plenty for our party of five familty styie. Thin Pizza crust held the toppings firmly. The red sauce was not sour or tomato-ey. It was balanced well. Pasta was al dente. The 6-hour beef bolognese was worth the wait. They brought each dish as they came out of the kitchen. People will never understand the run Jon & Vinny's had from 2015-2019. You really had to be there. Oddly reminiscent of a Prime Tim Duncan. Sure, you can go back and watch highlights, but you won't really get it. "So he was just hitting bank shots and grabbing rebounds??" *Old head hits cig* I felt like 20% of Snapchat stories on my feed were of the iconic Jon & Vinny's green logo pizza box or the spicy fusili pasta. I never actually went because it was hard to get a res at the Fairfax location, and because at some point I can't feed into the hype like that. I am my own man. All this to say, when big bro and I were deliberating where to eat and my 4th suggestion was given a "ehhhhhhhhh," he said "what about Jon & Vinny's?" Yes. It was time to pop my J&V cherry. I pulled into the parking lot off Slauson and parked my Toyota Rav4, which could easily be mistaken for a Range Rover, next to a bright green Lexus wrapped in Jon & Vinnys "Pizza" font. Interesting. I walked in at 1:34pm on a Saturday and was SHOCKED that I was the only one in the place. I was worried that we wouldn't even get a seat when I was on the way, now I was worried they weren't open. I was walked to a booth past a beautiful open kitchen that included an authentic pizza oven, bar seating, and the shelves lined with green pizza boxes. The interior of Jon and Vinny's reminded me of Sugarfish, and I don't know if I could give a higher compliment. I mf LOVE Sugarfish. I knew big bro would be late so I ordered an americano to keep my energy levels up, and it was actually quality espresso. Rarely do I sip an americano and do a stank face along with a slow head nod as if to say "damn this is gas!!" When Big Bro came and started scanning the menu, I could tell he was excited too. The menu is much bigger than I anticipated. We ordered the market lettuce, the lola pizza, and the wood grilled chicken. The vegetables in the market lettuce were so fresh I felt like they were picked from a local garden, something a prime Erewhon would serve. The Pizza had anchovies on it, but big bro is dating a girl from Amsterdam where anchovies are a big part of the culture. I tried with an open mind and the chovies were actually great. The pizza itself was also cooked PERFECTLY, with a thin crispy crust and no flop. The chicken also blew us away. Woodfire grilled AND IT SHOWED! We were both in agreement that it was the perfect meal, oddly similar to a Tim Duncan 21 and 11 game. Quality ingredients and quality taste without leaving us stuffed. Jon & Vinny's is BACK. The only reason I'm giving this 4 stars is because they tried to sneak a tip on top of the 18% service charge that is already added to your bill. That's nasty work. They almost got us too...
