I really love this restaurant. This place is by far the best Senegalese restaurant in NYC. The food is fantastic, and the beautiful, intimate atmosphere is incredibly inviting. The service is impeccable. I've been coming Joloff for almost 20 years and will continue to dine at this wonderful establishment. Today, I treated myself to delicious plate of Yassa Ganar, fataya jeun and sorrel. So good!!

Had never had Senegalese joloff. It was so delicious and comforting. And the portions were huge!

Food was super good. I got the ginger drink and peanut sauce chicken with joloff rice. It was so so good. Service was totally fine. Ambiance is quirky and lovely.

Had a craving for African food and so happy I made it to Joloff. You can tell they're big on family here. Our waitress was attentive and helpful in recommending dishes. I was in the mood for fish but definitely didn't want tilapia so I was happy to hear that they had red snapper. My boyfriend enjoyed his lamb. Everything was delicious, fresh and filling. We had fish patties for our appetizer. I would return.

Delicious food with huge portions. Came here on a Thursday night and had no trouble getting seated. The decor is very cute and the overall vibe is homey. I ordered the tiebou jeun, which came with a huge pile of jolloff rice and vegetables. The fish was soft and tasty, but I was unprepared for how boney it would be. Eating around the bones was a bit of a challenge, so the next time I come I might try ordering something from the expansive vegetarian menu instead. I definitely see myself returning!

Went here for brunch with ten of my sorority sisters for our monthly brunch gathering. The restaurant was very accommodating to the 11 of us. I started with their ginger drink without sugar. It was tasty, and oh, could you really taste that fresh ginger? I ordered the chicken in peanut sauce with white rice, but they brought it out with joloff rice. I was a bit annoyed by this because I was literally the last person to get her food, and now this was an added delay. I purposely didn't order the joloff rice because I wanted something not too spicy because, due to my cancer treatment, I can no longer handle spicy food. Once it came, I dug in and didn't put my fork down for about 10 minutes. It was that good. It was way too much food for one meal, so I happily took home a to-go bag. I think the traditional African decor definitely adds to the experience one has at this restaurant. This restaurant should definitely be added to your must try list.

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for ages and I got to try it finally. I had the Jollof and the Dibi for delivery (Via Seamless) and I wasn't disappointed. The packaging was great and there was no spillage. There were utensils packed as well. The portion of Jollof rice was perfect and it wasn't too spicy. The Dibbi was grilled and seasoned well, and the portion was decent. The onions and the mustard-based sauce they used were tasty (per usual). For a takeout dish, it was done very well and I can only imagine how it is when you dine in. I was savoring my meal for hours.

EVERYTHING GREAT. Love this place always good! My grill lamb is the best... authentic well cooked food!

Amazing little Senegalese restaurant family run by a mom and her sons. It doesn't get more authentic than this. I felt like my own mother was there getting ready to yell at me for playing with my food.

2023 review: I've been coming here a long while and haven't been happy with Jollof for several months. The price went up and the portions VISIBLY got smaller. The portions and the nutrition I got from this very same meal was worth it but, I cant keep paying over 20 dollars for continually shrinking portions. First photo was a 2022 review Second two are 2023.

Jolloff was amazing!! The inside was cozy, and everyone was really friendly, welcoming us into the space and taking the time to explain the menu! I don't remember the exact names, but we got the chicken with peanut sauce and the fish with okra and I would order both again. The portions are pretty big, each dish made me feel so cozy, I felt like I was eating a home cooked meal! Would definitely come back.

I don't have much experience with Senegalese food but after trying the Thiebou Yapp here, I'm very much a fun. Super traditional vibe which adds to the homecooked comfort style of the food. The portion sizes were incredible for the price and the lamb was cooked to perfection. The spicy onions added the extra kick to really round off the flavor and the rice complemented the sharp flavors so well. Can't wait to come back the next time I'm in New York.

My partner and I visited Le Baobab Gouygi 2 today for a late Sunday lunch, per a friend's…read morerecommendation. It's a casual spot where you seat yourself and order at the counter. We started with a bag of small, cornbread-like buns that were slightly sweet and so delicious--perfect for snacking before the main dishes arrived. We also ordered two homemade drinks: the Senegal ginger drink, which had a bold kick to it, and the bouye drink, made from baobab fruit, which was creamy, slightly tangy, and refreshing. We'd never tasted anything like these. Both were unique and complemented the flavors of the food, which came out quickly. For our main dishes, we tried the Chicken Yassa, a traditional Senegalese dish of marinated chicken cooked with caramelized onions, lemon, and mustard. It had a wonderful tangy flavor with tender, flavorful chicken that literally fell off the bone. We also had the Thiebou Djen, the national dish of Senegal, which is a savory, tomato-based fish and rice dish cooked with vegetables like carrots, cabbage, and cassava. I opted for red jollof over yellow and loved the crispy parts. This dish was rich, hearty, and packed with flavor. We wanted to try the Fataya (fried fish or meat turnovers) but unfortunately, they were out. Despite that, we had more than enough food; we left feeling stuffed and still took home a large to-go container. The food came out quickly, and the staff was prompt with bringing water to the table. Overall, it was a great West African dining experience with generous portions and authentic flavors. We'll definitely be ordering their delivery!

Excellent service! Good food. Great location. LOVE the educational map of Africa!…read more The only reason for docking a star is the jollof was not the best and the lamb was a bit less juicy than preferred. We were an odd party of 5 and it was packed inside - they played Yahtzee with a couple parties who didn't yet have food and were seated at larger tables for their small party just so we could sit. Then, moments after a table left they moved us and merged tables so we could comfortably dine. This was so intelligent and comforting imo. Most managers/owners would be afraid to do that, but when you're dealing with mom & pop cultured businesses they make you feel a part of the village so make it work for everybody to eat & enjoy. They handled it professionally and with respect to the customer as we listened in to how they managed. They were fast, helpful, on it from entry to exit! I appreciated the cushioned seating. The fresh ginger juice was amazing especially after all the singing we'd done. They were helping us pronounce the dishes and the presentation was nice. The portion was large enough for leftovers. While they were out of most menu items and handling a large catering order, it seems they're popular for a reason and I'm happy they're doing well. Go, enjoy!!

This food is delicious. It's freshly made to order and takes several minutes before it comes out. The dining chicken tasted like BBQ chicken off the grill. It had a nice char and a slight spice to it. The jillif rice was spicy and had a tomato flavor. The sautéed onions on it were salty, spicy, crunchy while giving off a nice juice. Then the raw onions were peppery and tangy. The whole meal was delicious. The strawberry lemonade was refreshing and sweet. It had a creamy feel to it. Very enjoyable. Theirs is a little dry and not as smokey as I'd like, but they do add a side of some type of tomato and onions near it so I mix it in and it does add a little more to it so thats a 4/5. Ive also had their fatal and it was good too. I see that they recently added fufu to their menu but its too expensive in comparison to the other places I've had. I wish they had egusi on their menu, but it'll probably be very expensive as most things are at this restaurant.

First thing- The family deal states that it feeds a family of 4 (which is a complete lie because it feeds 1 person!) and comes with all of these things. My order was missing the jollof rice, suya, puff puff, and the 2 sides of spinach! Second thing- They lied and said that the fish is Tilapia fish but it is NOT!!! The fish that they used is cheap and nasty Swai fish. It has a completely different taste from Tilapia fish as it is fishy tasting with a really soft soft texture. The "Tilapia " was disgusting! It was flavorless and barely cooked. Third thing- The Egusi was the worst that I ever had in my life! It did not even taste like egusi! There was no maggi, crayfish, or flavors added and it was drenched in palm oil. They also did not cook the Egusi all the way through and it had huge huge chunks in it. Fourth thing- The sauce or "stew" that they put on this fish was also terrible as well! I completely wasted $70 on this restaurant! I would NOT recommend ever buying anything from this restaurant. They lied about the portion size and what came with the meal and the food is gross! I don't know how this restaurant is in operation. I'm not even sure if the people who made this food is Nigerian because none of this food tasted right! DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE! You've been warned!!!! BTW - I threw everything in the trash!
