I've walked by Joloff Restaurant more times than I can count, and I'm kicking myself for not stepping in sooner. This Senegalese spot in Brooklyn is truly a neighborhood gem. I finally made my way inside, and wow--what a pleasant surprise! The vibes are warm, the space is inviting, and the food? Absolutely phenomenal. The joloff rice is hands-down some of the best I've had--perfectly seasoned, rich in flavor, and paired with fish that was tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Every bite felt like a celebration of West African culture. If you live nearby or are just visiting the area, do yourself a favor and stop by. Joloff Restaurant is serving serious flavor with a side of hospitality.

Went with a friend and we both really enjoyed our dishes. Lots of vegetarian/vegan options to choose from, which is always exciting. I got the yassa tofu, and my friend got the yassa chicken. I look forward to coming back next time I'm in town!

Food was super good. I got the ginger drink and peanut sauce chicken with joloff rice. It was so so good. Service was totally fine. Ambiance is quirky and lovely.

I really love this restaurant. This place is by far the best Senegalese restaurant in NYC. The food is fantastic, and the beautiful, intimate atmosphere is incredibly inviting. The service is impeccable. I've been coming Joloff for almost 20 years and will continue to dine at this wonderful establishment. Today, I treated myself to delicious plate of Yassa Ganar, fataya jeun and sorrel. So good!!

Had never had Senegalese joloff. It was so delicious and comforting. And the portions were huge!

Had a craving for African food and so happy I made it to Joloff. You can tell they're big on family here. Our waitress was attentive and helpful in recommending dishes. I was in the mood for fish but definitely didn't want tilapia so I was happy to hear that they had red snapper. My boyfriend enjoyed his lamb. Everything was delicious, fresh and filling. We had fish patties for our appetizer. I would return.

Delicious food with huge portions. Came here on a Thursday night and had no trouble getting seated. The decor is very cute and the overall vibe is homey. I ordered the tiebou jeun, which came with a huge pile of jolloff rice and vegetables. The fish was soft and tasty, but I was unprepared for how boney it would be. Eating around the bones was a bit of a challenge, so the next time I come I might try ordering something from the expansive vegetarian menu instead. I definitely see myself returning!

Went here for brunch with ten of my sorority sisters for our monthly brunch gathering. The restaurant was very accommodating to the 11 of us. I started with their ginger drink without sugar. It was tasty, and oh, could you really taste that fresh ginger? I ordered the chicken in peanut sauce with white rice, but they brought it out with joloff rice. I was a bit annoyed by this because I was literally the last person to get her food, and now this was an added delay. I purposely didn't order the joloff rice because I wanted something not too spicy because, due to my cancer treatment, I can no longer handle spicy food. Once it came, I dug in and didn't put my fork down for about 10 minutes. It was that good. It was way too much food for one meal, so I happily took home a to-go bag. I think the traditional African decor definitely adds to the experience one has at this restaurant. This restaurant should definitely be added to your must try list.

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for ages and I got to try it finally. I had the Jollof and the Dibi for delivery (Via Seamless) and I wasn't disappointed. The packaging was great and there was no spillage. There were utensils packed as well. The portion of Jollof rice was perfect and it wasn't too spicy. The Dibbi was grilled and seasoned well, and the portion was decent. The onions and the mustard-based sauce they used were tasty (per usual). For a takeout dish, it was done very well and I can only imagine how it is when you dine in. I was savoring my meal for hours.

Amazing little Senegalese restaurant family run by a mom and her sons. It doesn't get more authentic than this. I felt like my own mother was there getting ready to yell at me for playing with my food.

2023 review: I've been coming here a long while and haven't been happy with Jollof for several months. The price went up and the portions VISIBLY got smaller. The portions and the nutrition I got from this very same meal was worth it but, I cant keep paying over 20 dollars for continually shrinking portions. First photo was a 2022 review Second two are 2023.

Jolloff was amazing!! The inside was cozy, and everyone was really friendly, welcoming us into the space and taking the time to explain the menu! I don't remember the exact names, but we got the chicken with peanut sauce and the fish with okra and I would order both again. The portions are pretty big, each dish made me feel so cozy, I felt like I was eating a home cooked meal! Would definitely come back.

We tried the beef empanadas and mushroom croquettes for apps, dibi senegal (grilled lamb chops with rice and plantains) and the mafe (peanut stew with beef)-- nothing was left on our plates at the end. The things that can be improved: - the service was quite chaotic- we had made this reservation days in advance and were seated and had already placed our order for appetizers (or so we thought) when the waiter regretted to inform us that we'd have to be moved to a different table. The table we were moved to was right in the middle of the restaurant but by the door and it felt like we were being bumped into all night - as it turns out, the waiter moved us but never did place our appetizer order. So we waited, and waited, and no food came. They even served a table who came in after us! We did find it super strange but figured maybe our food was taking longer? Anyway eventually the waiter realized what happened and came over to take our order for the apps and also our entree (as at this point we had been seated closer to 45 mins). He also offered us each a free drink "on the house" if we wanted as an apology for the wait. Two of the three of us took him up on the offer and ordered two mocktails. As it turns out, at the end of the night when we got the bill, both of these mocktails were added on to our bill, despite what we were told that they'd be "on the house" - my friend ordered a dish to go - which she wanted to take for her mom- and they forgot to add it to the bill or place the order so at the end of the night my friend had to leave empty handed and disappoint her mom who was very excited to try the dish. Overall: The food is phenomenal. The service can be significantly improved.

Instead, we came to Cafe Rue Dix and placed a pick up order since they were closing soon. Upon our arrival, the beignets were ready and the staff was kind enough to let us eat them there. The beignets didn't quite hit the mark for me because they ideally would have been softer and the chocolate sauce was kind of hard to dip into. Outside of that, I thought the restaurant was cozy and the bartender we were talking to that night was really informative. We learned a few new discoveries that night about different types of gin. I would probably return and try out a different dish.

I don't have much experience with Senegalese food but after trying the Thiebou Yapp here, I'm very much a fun. Super traditional vibe which adds to the homecooked comfort style of the food. We started with a bag of small, cornbread-like buns that were slightly sweet and so delicious--perfect for snacking before the main dishes arrived. We also ordered two homemade drinks: the Senegal ginger drink, which had a bold kick to it, and the bouye drink, made from baobab fruit, which was creamy, slightly tangy, and refreshing. We'd never tasted anything like these. Both were unique and complemented the flavors of the food, which came out quickly. For our main dishes, we tried the Chicken Yassa, a traditional Senegalese dish of marinated chicken cooked with caramelized onions, lemon, and mustard. It had a wonderful tangy flavor with tender, flavorful chicken that literally fell off the bone. We also had the Thiebou Djen, the national dish of Senegal, which is a savory, tomato-based fish and rice dish cooked with vegetables like carrots, cabbage, and cassava. I opted for red jollof over yellow and loved the crispy parts. This dish was rich, hearty, and packed with flavor. We wanted to try the Fataya (fried fish or meat turnovers) but unfortunately, they were out. Despite that, we had more than enough food; we left feeling stuffed and still took home a large to-go container. The food came out quickly, and the staff was prompt with bringing water to the table. Overall, it was a great West African dining experience with generous portions and authentic flavors. We'll definitely be ordering their delivery!

Then, moments after a table left they moved us and merged tables so we could comfortably dine. This was so intelligent and comforting imo. Most managers/owners would be afraid to do that, but when you're dealing with mom & pop cultured businesses they make you feel a part of the village so make it work for everybody to eat & enjoy. They handled it professionally and with respect to the customer as we listened in to how they managed. They were fast, helpful, on it from entry to exit! I appreciated the cushioned seating.
