Trini Breakfast Shed is a staple in the " Little Caribbean " neighborhood. This location is on Church Ave a few blocks from Nostrand Ave. I used to come here years ago and I am thrilled to see that they are still here and that the food is still delicious. My favorite thing from here is the curry crab and dumplings. Not sure if they have it everyday but I like to get it on a Saturday. It is still finger licking good. After so many years the taste remains consistently delicious. I bought the large dish for $20 and I enjoyed it for 2 days. I also tried the cow foot souse but I prefer mines a bit more tangy and spicy so I will add more flavor at home. The place is clean. I've been recommended to this place a few times but because the outside and even inside looks dirty I've only been in there once and walked out until today. I noticed they have an A score from the health inspector so I walked in after 9am there was about 5 people in front of me. I ended up ordering salt fish and dumpling with cassava. The service is really slow here (there was 1 person serving and cashing). After receiving my food, I paid and I left. I live only about five minutes walking distance from this place. By the time I got home and sat down, the food was cold and not cold where it's a bit warm there was actually no heat to it at alll. The weather outside was raining and 40 degrees so even if it was hot, it should've warm. I feel as tho the heat under the food pans either wasn't on or not working. The taste of the food was ok but I would not be returning. I'll continue to go to Tastee Pattee on the corner of church and 32nd st. And I am born and raised Trinidadian! read more

If you are looking for freshly fried shrimp wontons, please go to Trinidadian Golden Place on Nostrand and St. John's. Please do not eat at this establishment.. I decided to purchase some fried shrimp wontons from the Trini Breakfast Shed II. I knew I made the wrong decision when she came back with it in a minute. I asked are they hot and she said yes.. When I ate one in the establishment, it was cold. She later told me they fry them and put them under a light. SMH The food also looked stale and unappealing. I had every intention of leaving a good review, especially because the food that I ordered was decent the first time I tried it, and I like to support small businesses. If I have to leave a bad review, I usually opt out of leaving one at all, but this is the second time I came in here and the person serving me had a nasty attitude. The first time, I let it slide because I figured the person was having a bad day, but this second time was it for me, and it was a completely different worker, too. I don't live in the area. I live in the Bronx, but i just come to the area to get my hair and eyebrows done, and I happened upon Trini Breakfast Shed II. My family is from Trinidad, but living in my area of the Bronx, there aren't a lot of options that serve creole food, so I was happy to come to a Trini restaurant that serves callalloo. However, I don't know if it's my accent or what, but when i greeted the people working here with a smile, they seemed to reciprocate that at first. However, when i began to speak, their faces completely changed and started rolling their eyes. When I asked to confirm the different plate sizes they had (there were no signs or prices on the ones they had on display), that's when the huffing and puffing began. And then when I started ordering my food, they starting getting nasty and rude. The first time I came, they scolded me for ordering pelau and asking for another meat because they said it already has meat in it. Who cares? You have foods out buffet-style with no menu, so how am I supposed to know how to order? There's no menu on the wall with prices or even paper menus on display to at least tell me the prices and menu options (I don't even think it's legal to not have menus available to customers. i had to order in good faith that they weren't making up prices on the spot). I just came back from Trinidad last week, and no one there had any issue with me ordering pelau with other meat. The people at this eatery were short with me, rolling their eyes, and pushed my food towards me in the end. Very ignorant behavior towards someone who had every intention of ordering from them going forward. A restaurant is only as good as the chef and customer service. I have supported this restaurant for 18+ years that I lived in NY and currently live in South Jersey. I don't come to NY often, but when I do, it's to this place. Never again. I got there about 11:33am. and was told the food that I wanted to order was not ready for another half hour. I asked if I could order and pay, that when I come back within the half hour I would not have to wait. She said yes. There was one person being served in front of me. By the time they got to me, order placed and paid for, it was almost 12pm. She took my money and gave me a receipt and told me I have to wait an additional 30 minutes for her to prepare everything, but upon my return, come straight to the counter. I told her I would wait in my car. I ordered 2 chicken roti. 2 Goat roti. 6 solo, 2 currents roll, 3 poulorie, and 2 souse. Upon my return, there were 7 people there. They all got their food. The delivery driver got his order, and my order was still being prepared. After an additional 20 minutes I got my food. What really sealed the deal to NOT support this restaurant anymore. The server prepped all the doubles with only Channa. Nothing else. No sauce, no pepper, and yes, I told her to put everything in it. The souse had no taste. My family don't eat much salt due to hypertension and if we were complaining that the food had no taste, you know it's got no taste. This is the last this business will get any money from me. I usually only come here for a couple of their pastries . Their food has never been to my liking but their is a wide variety of offerings so maybe you can find something you like here. The thing I really don't like is not the food however . It's the painfully slow service . After years of coming here it has gotten to the point where I really gotta set aside an hour of my time just to get pastries !! My issue is is their structure . No one knows where to order . Generally there are two lines one for ordering and one for paying . There is also people placing orders over the phone who enter and just skip ahead of those waiting patiently in line . It is RIDICULOUSLY RIDICULOUS! There needs to be a more efficient way . Management if you're seeing this please do something to speed up the process of ordering or you'll lose a lot of business ! Maybe Have an additional person designated for phone orders (preparing and giving to the customer through that side door you have ? ) But do something ! As for their pastries . The Beef pies are the best ever and their currant rolls aren't too far behind . But an hour wait is starting to make them a little less tasty . read more

I've had two different visit and I'm giving 3 stars because I love the doubles. Tried the Trini Chinese, chicken was more so baked than fried well. Rice had a good flavor but wasn't cooked long enough. Overall I wouldn't get the trini Chinese ever again. I was just in this place like an hour ago. Because I was in the area, saw it and wanted some roti. Usually I do my research but I just decided to give them a try without looking them up....man do I regret that. Anyway, first off they weren't welcoming but like what west Indian restaurant is?. I wanted boneless chicken, they didn't have it. So opted for the curry chicken roti. I was a lil annoyed cause the lady only gave me like 3 pieces of chicken but I let it go. Then I asked for pepper sauce and the other lady that's bagging it told me "you have to ask her" the lady that made the food...well she done walked away now and you right there you tell her ...w/o me saying anything she requested the pepper for me. I paid $8.70 and left. I get home on the other side of Brooklyn, tryna get me some bites in before I go pick up my daughter. I taste the roti and it's doughy . I open it up and taste the potatoes before putting pepper in it...potato have no flavor....I taste the chicken...of course chicken has no flavor...then I looked closely and pulled out a hair that was the length of my pinky..... Overall I'm really pleased with the service at Trini breakfast shed. I will call in advance to place my order. I always get chicken roti with MANGO (lordddd that mango sings... I digress) now, you want to order early before they run out of mango or you're left with bitter sadness however the roti without the mango is still fantastic. The mango is just spiced so perfectly, and they have these super big electronic screens with the menu above the registers so everything is clear. They take both cash and credit. You have the opportunity to have your roti separate or already rolled. I always opt for already rolled but my mom loves all her stuff separate. I will say the lines get CRAZY, which to me is indicative of superior food. I don't want to eat anywhere that doesn't have major "flockage" They have tables so that you may eat in or take your food to go. From what I've seen, most take their food to go however. Whenever I'm in the mood for great Trini food, this is my one and only stop, I've tried others before but they have one my heart. The food is visible, In warmer metal pans secured by the clean glass which makes me sooo comfortable because you see the food as it's prepared. I like to see what's going on, where my food is coming from, and how you put it together. They've always had a pleasant demeanor when I've come, and I always leave my change/ tip, food service is a hot hardworking profession... I had the curried crab with dumplings & it was GOOD! The crabs were soft & tender. They didn't taste like they were frozen even though they were dungeness crabs & were definitely not fresh. Plus, they gave you plenty of food. The dumplings were flat & not round which is different but enjoyable. I would definitely recommend going there on the weekends as opposed to going during the week. The last time I went during the week for the same meal, it wasn't as good. The only thing I really didn't like was the ordering process. You wait in line to order the food then you wait in another line to pay. As you can imagine, it was completely confusing & made the wait unneccesarily longer then it should have been. If they could fix the ordering processing it would be great. However, I will definitely return & try other things on the menu. read more

The staff is friendly and the food is great. Visiting New York to learn that Sybil's was closed. I wanted Bales and salt fish at 7:30am. Everywhere was closed. I was on the bus looking for open restaurants when I saw their sign. I got off at the next stop. Walked on.... All the food was fresh, a large breakfast selection, fluffy bakes. I didn't find them too friendly but who cares....... Who knows how early they've been up cooking for me. I applaud the cook and owner. Back again later in the evening for my Roti skins. They deserve a food industry award. The name isn't accurate. There doesn't appear to be a first breakfast shed and you can get food here long after night fall. What you can get is a surprisingly long selection of Trini-style Chinese food, along with some of the island's traditional cuisine. For me, most Trini-Chinese dishes are too greasy and without much flavor, so I stuck to the other side of the menu. I've seen photos of long lines here, but on my 9 p.m. Saturday night visit, there were no other diners. I was able to assemble a plate of chickpeas, curry chicken and some cooked shrimp over a bed of rice for just over $10. It was too much food, but I made an effort. I need to drop off a star for the state of the shrimp - they were small and tasted a bit rubbery. Their sauce almost made up for it, but this just wasn't the highest quality seafood. I have found memories from my time in Port of Spain of fish and shrimp, and it is disappointing to have it not taste the same here. Service was friendly and accommodating - not always a given at a Caribbean restaurant I'm afraid - as they were able to explain all of the dishes currently on offer. There are quite a few Trini options in Flatbush, but this is one worth checking out. Update: I have been told that this restaurant is named after a famous place in Trinidad. While the first sentence of my review was meant a bit tongue-in-cheek, I appreciate the additional information nonetheless! read more

Takes a minute to order but the doubles were very good with light soft bread and flavorful channa. Ask for extra tamarind/pepper sauce. One of the only spots that has a decent place to sit and enjoy your food also. read more

Been eating at this restaurant off an on for years. A great variety of authentic Trinidadian dishes. The only thing that discourages me eating here more often is the personality of the staff. Went there this afternoon to order and not one smile or good afternoon from the woman who was serving. They also had fresh juices and although I don't remember which one I chose, it was the perfect amount of sweet, authentic goodness! I cannot say one bad thing about any part of my meal. 5+ stars! On to the service.. we came in somewhere between 1-3pm on a nice enough Saturday in March. We expected to see a line and we did.. almost to the door. But we came from our hotel on Wall Street to Brooklyn for good food and dammit, we were going to wait. *Fast forward 15-20 minutes of me standing in heels to reach the counter and order* My girlfriend got a table for the four of us, so I had her order and mine ready to go. Of course, they didn't have what she wanted, which I think was crab and dumpling. No scene, she quickly changed her order to a goat roti. The interaction easily added an extra minute to my order time - possibly why the line moves so slow. Imagine, waiting in line all that time with your heart set on something then you reach the front and they are all out; it is bound to take some time to pick out something else! Alright, so I'm ordering and I honestly find the person taking my order was reasonably friendly. Not bright and bubbly, but she took my order, let me know what they had and didn't have, boxed everything and that was that. No frills! But I am OK with that. Maybe if this was a place that offered table service, she wouldn't make the best waitress. But as someone behind a glass, she was fine. Now it's time to wait another 5-10 minutes to pay. People who call ahead just go right to the register to pay, so even though you just ordered, five people could be in front of you to pay because they are just picking up. The girl at the register was adorable: complimented my earrings, which led to another woman behind the counter complimenting my shoes and us chatting for a good 2 minutes. Sorry people in line behind us, girl talk is important! The woman directly in front of me, who we were chatting with as well, was one who called ahead paid and left. When I went to pay, we discovered she actually took my food. So someone had to go and flag the woman down, she had to come back blah blah blah. Of course, I made sure to check my food before paying and realized my pholourie was not in the bag. OMGee.. see how long this review is.. well that's barely how long the ordering process was. I swear it took a smooth 40 minutes just to order the food! But to be honest, I didn't mind one bit because I got to chat with some really nice people, reminisce on Carnival, listen some nice Gospel and most importantly, the food was so very good! Came here for breakfast. Boyfriend wanted me to try it out. I had the shark and bake with garlic ketchup and tamarind sauces. I could've had the bake with the sauces all by itself.
