You might find that the most interesting thing about eating at Jollibee's is the fact that it's a favorite fast food restaurant of another country (The Philippines). And despite the ocean between us, the food translates very well to our American tastes. Fried chicken (Chickenjoy) seems to be the flagship entree. It's got a different kind of crust which is very crispy, but a lot less flour heavy. It's a nice change of pace and is very similar to the fried chicken that you can get at the Central American influenced Pollo Campero. I prefer the spicy to the mild version. So from here on out, things get a little more Infilling. There's a tasty hamburger steak and gravy (Burger Steak) served with... RICE! I finally get that whole gravy and rice thing that middle America seems to enjoy. I'm just glad to have rice as an available side (it just tugs on my Asian heart strings). I can see the resemblance that Chris C describes as the ole Nighthawk frozen dinner, but then I liked those, too. Rarely seen on a fast food menu, Spaghetti. Again, it's the Philipino take, with a sweet tomato sauce with sausage & ham then topped with cheddar cheese. You might like the sweetness of the sauce for that kid in you. Can't speak to the hamburger, but David N threw down a lot of YelpLove for the Aloha Burger. The deserts bring is some alternate flavors like the Peach & Mango and the Banana & Jackfruit fried pies. My favorite is the Peach & Mango. I'm leaving the Jackfruit for the hardcore. And, finally there's the Halo-Halo, a frozen sundae/shake/icee desert. There's a lot of interesting, sweet flavors for your mouth. Definitely hit Jollibee's for a different take on some of your favorite fast food tastes. Waiting for the hype to die down, I found myself here Saturday night for dinner around 9 pm. Literally, walking in I felt like I was in Asia. This place was crowded with a decent amount of people and I couldn't help thinking "When did I get on a plane to go to Asia?". At least people weren't hovering or fighting for tables as there was decent amount of seating at 9 pm. Filipino fast food. I was excited because I actually like Filipino spaghetti or the one I tasted before. If you've never had it, the sauce has sugar added so it's sweeter and they use hot dogs for the meat. We ended up ordering the spaghetti, a 3 piece spicy meal with sweet potato fries and a peach mango pie. After ordering, I couldn't believe this place considered themselves fast food. I literally waiting 25 minutes after ordering to get my food. That what I would expect to wait at a sit down restaurant. I also like how they have signs on the vending machines that they would like to "recommend" a 30 minute use for their tables. You might want to suggest a different use time, if you make a person wait 25 minutes for their food. I am definitely not eating my food in 5 minutes. That was definitely my grumpy, hungry persona speaking. Once we got our food, we totally dug in. The sweet potato fries came out cold, so I wish I could have picked something else instead. The spaghetti didn't really hit the spot for me, but I guess you can't compare homemade Filipino spaghetti to fast food spaghetti. Still decent I suppose. I definitely enjoyed the gravy with the chicken over the other items as I was dipping it like crazy. The spicy dry rub batter was nice, and I thought the chicken was nicely fried. At least it came out hot... As for dessert, the peach mango pie was delicious!! Definitely reminded me of the McDonald apple pies but with yummier filling! It was nice and crispy on the outside, and oh so gooey on the inside. Definitely a worthy buy! Overall a nice change from all the other fast food places (reason why I gave it 4 stars), but their food quality is what you expect from fast food places. The only disappointing part maybe is the chicken, maybe it's me but I dont taste the real chicken joy quality, maybe the chicken is made local here in US. Overall I give 4 out 5. The service is great and the food are mostly awesome. There are some items there that is not suitable for black and white folks, but I see lots of white and black dining here to get the chicken. Their burger is great its very nostalgic, but not good for americans (they dont like the hint of sweet on burger) same as spaghetti. Growing up in California, I was ecstatic when Jollibee opened up. The food reminded me of the fast food joints in the homeland and the food was delicious. Now, as an adult, Jollibee no longer interests me as much as it did before. There are a few gripes I have regarding Jollibee USA: the long wait and high prices. All Jollibee locations I've experienced in the USA are all plagued by the above issues. The wait for the food order line is typically long and is understandable to a certain extent. To me, it is not acceptable when there is only one staff member at the cash registers when the line extends over 5 people. I really think that Jollibee should have a better process in place to get orders and people moving quickly. It is a fast food restaurant isn't it? In my experience at this Houston location, they had one person manning the cash register and multiple staff getting orders ready. The line at the register piled up and the food was not coming out quickly enough leaving the food runners doing nothing at certain points. McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger King (albeit not ALL locations) have a pretty good system going and they can get orders moved quickly. It just puzzles me that Jollibee cannot get to the same standard as a fast food restaurant. To top it all off, the prices are way overpriced to be considered fast food in my opinion. One of the promotions that they were running during my visit in July was two dishes for about $5-$6. They dubbed it super affordable but I still found it overpriced. I ordered the spaghetti and chicken dippers which came out to half of a regular spaghetti order and two small pieces of chicken fingers, definitely not worth $6. On another day, I visited Jollibee for breakfast and ordered a breakfast tapa. When the order came out, I was extremely disappointed in the reduction of size of their breakfast items. From previous experiences in California, the Jollibee breakfast was served in a size similar to Chinese take-out Styrofoam boxes whereas during my most recent visit, I received mine in a box half the size with half the portion of food. The price for this was also $6. Very disappointing. A few positives for this specific Houston location: they have free coffee for breakfast, they serve all items for breakfast times (chicken joy or spaghetti for breakfast anyone?). The place is also very clean and modern. I appreciate the setting that they provided for this location. To me, Jollibee will always have a special place in my heart and taste buds. Finally took the jump and came in to give it a try. We've heard only good things about Jollibee, so our expectations were pretty high. Our order consisted of the six piece bucket of fried chicken, fries and mashed potatoes. The conclusion: it was just alright. I didn't taste any "flavor" to it. The chicken was just ordinary. The mashed potatoes could've been better. I don't get what the hype is. I really don't. The restroom was typical of a fast food joint. I did notice that they had a wooden stand-alone changing table in the women's restroom minus a changing pad. There is just one sink and a single hand dryer, no paper towels. The seating area is nice and a bit different from what you typical see in a fast food restaurant. The seats are hard even though they look to be soft. Parking lot is small especially on a normal business day. The employees we encountered were polite and our order was made quickly. I don't think we'll be back. I had never eaten at Jollibee before, but I did see it on some TV show, maybe it was the food network. They were showcasing the halo halo, which looked kind of scary, and I've had plenty of drinks with exotic Asian fruits before. This is a Filipino fast food restaurant. I ordered the spaghetti with 1 piece of fried chicken (+ a soda). I liked them both! I liked the sweet tomato sauce in the spaghetti.. meatballs would be nice instead of hot dog meat, but hey, it was still good. If I could suggest anything, it would be to make the spaghetti portion size bigger. Got a fried chicken thigh and it was tender, juicy, and the skin didn't have too much extraneous breading. My friend went on a Wed night around 7 pm and there was a short line but it went quickly. Next time I go, I'm going to try out the banana jackfruit pie. I finally headed over here for lunch with the work crew. Since we had a group of us were were able to order and sample a variety of items. We ordered the chickenjoy (fried chicken), spaghetti, burger steak, mango peach pies and ube pearl cooler. The fried chicken was pretty good, but nothing amazing that you couldn't find elsewhere. The spaghetti was overly sweet which didn't bother me as I don't mind sweet foods for my main meal, but this may be an issue for those that can't stand sweet items in a savory dish. The burger steak reminded me of salisbury steak but tastier than your standard microwave at home type dinner, and the gravy was pretty good. My co-worked added an egg for 35c but I could tell the egg was not a fresh egg and instead the fast-food preserved/fake type. I had high hopes for the ube pearl cooler which weren't quite fulfilled. The pearls are rock hard, ie disgusting and inedible from my tapioca snob standpoint, and the ube drink part was overly sweet and tasted somewhat artificial. The peach mango pie also did not live up to the hype for me. The filling was overly sweet but the shell on the pie is better. I actually prefer McD's apple pie to this pie as the McD's pie has a more wholesome, homely taste with cinnamon whereas the peach mango pie tasted like straight up sugar with diabetes on top. The great thing is that we got all this food for about $8.50 each, which is quite cheap. So from the price standpoint, this place is great. After all the hype about this place, my boyfriend and I decided to come try it out. Initial reaction was good, interior was nice and the place was CLEAN (even the restrooms). Unfortunately the food didn't live up to my expectations. I ordered the spaghetti combo with the chicken leg with a coconut pandan tapioca drink. The spaghetti was decent, sweet to the taste buds and had little hot dog slices which brought back some childhood memories. Nothing out of this world though. I wasn't too thrilled about the chicken. It wasn't as crispy as I thought it would be and I felt it was lacking flavor. I prefer the chicken at Frenchy's or Breakfast Klub that pack on that Cajun flavor. The tapioca drink was actually decent, however the actual pearls weren't chewy like the ones you get at actual tea houses...still good though. This place is what I wish America had for chinese food. Not exactly Filipino food but better than any fast food restaurant in American in terms of Filipino food. This place is located between Main and Old Spanish Trail, this place seems like the McDonals of the Philippines. I ordered the N2 - Spaghetti with fried chicken, a burger with lettuce and tomato, and also the banana dessert pie. The spaghetti with fried chicken - softest fried chicken I've ever had...and it was awesome. I saw a guy eating a bucket of chicken himself....THAT guy was a veteran. I will probably do this next time I come back. The spaghetti has a sweet sauce with hot dog meat chopped up inside it. I really liked this dish even though I would never think to match fried chicken with spaghetti. The burger - this is Jollibee's version of a McDonald's cheeseburger. Except this burger costs more and is higher quality. Definitely tastes good though. The banana dessert pie - this is like the apple pies of McDonalds, except banana! This dessert was legit. My first time visiting Jollibee was in Manilla when I went to the Philippines to visit family with my mother. My mom kept raving about this place saying that it was the McDonalds of the Philippines. So of course I tried it; sweet spaghetti with pieces of hot dog and hot crisp fried chicken. Nothing spectacular, but the fact that my mom can now having hot fresh food from a place that gives her sweet memories of home without have to travel via plane 20 hours is totally awesome. I have tried this place so many times spread out over a period of time from Cali to Vegas to Houston and I still feel the same about this place. Its so mediocre and not the best fast food around. I understand that this is suppose to represent Filipino food, but it doesnt. Filipino food is way better than Jolibee. This fast food joint is made up of Spaghetti (Filipino style - im guessing because of Jufran and hotdogs?), Hamburgers, and and Fried Chicken (you are suppose to eat with gravy). There are many other fast food places you can drive to to get better food. The only thing I like is the mango pie. It is like McDonalds Apple Pie but smaller. It's 2 for $3.50 (overpriced) when you are looking at McDonalds which makes it bigger and cheaper. Halo Halo is okay as well. I just eat it for the Ube flavor. You can probably go to a mom-pop store and get a better version with more ingredients. The place is nice and clean because it just opened. I will say the place is spacious. Came here for lunch with my wife on a weekday. We both got the fried chicken and it was fresh, tasty, and just perfect in my book. I got buttered corn on the side that was also quite good. I usually don't drink sweetened drinks but got the ube tapioca pearl cooler and it was just great. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. I am knocking a star off for customer service as the clerk would not make eye contact and seemed generally out of it. I am accustomed to to Filipinos smiling and interacting well so this seemed unusual. We had to ask three different times and were through eating by the time my wife finally got her Halo-Halo, which she rated as just so-so. The place was not at all busy so that was not a factor. For those that grew up with Jollibee, this is basically it, and for those that don't know about Jollibee it's a fast food Filipino chain, and this is the only one in Texas from my understanding but can be found everywhere in California. The food just tastes the way you would get it in the Philippines, so this is great! Some favorites are the spaghetti with fried chicken, palabok, peach mango pie and the breakfast plates. How is this place even staying in business? The food is stale tasting. McDonald burger tastes gourmet compared to this food. The service was terrible. I grew up in Houston and actually just came back from a visit to the Philippines a week ago so I wanted to try it while the taste of the Jollibee in the Philippines was still fresh on my mind. I wasn't disappointed! To quote my brother "it has the same after taste like the Philippines!" There were several of us so we ordered quite a bit: Chicken Joy, rice, fries, mashed potatoes, Buko Pandan and Ube Cooler with Tapioca, Halo-Halo and Mango Peach Pie (we wanted to try to spaghetti too but I forgot to order! I will go back and try). We wanted to also order the sweet potato waffle fries but they were out. Chicken Joy (spicy), gravy, and rice: Yummy! The chicken and gravy really hit the spot and it tastes just like it does in the Philippines! Crispy skin, juicy chicken and just like alot of reviewers said it wasn't super greasy! I eat the chicken plain but I do like mixing the rice with the gravy. Fries/Mashed Potatoes: Fries were good, nice crisp, nice taste. Mashed potatoes were also good, tasted like KFC mashed potatoes (which I like). Ube and Buko Pandan Cooler w/ Tapioca: I got the Buko Pandan and my brother got the Ube. We both enjoyed the drinks but HATED the Tapioca. It was undercooked, chewy and some were hard! I will order the drink again just without the Tapioca. Halo-Halo: I don't eat Halo-Halo but my sister really enjoyed it. She especially liked some green jelly thing they had in it. I also noticed it had Ube AND Mango ice cream so I thought that was a plus. Mango Peach Pie: I have never been a fan of fast food pies but I heard so many awesome things about this one I decided to try. Delicious! The crust was crispy and had great flavor and the inside was hot and gooey and a nice combo of mango and peach! Best part was it wasn't too sweet, just the right amount. I will definitely be ordering this every time I come. Besides the tapioca the only other con I can say about Jollibee is that it is a bit pricey (especially the Halo-Halo at $5.00) for Fast Food. I miss Jollibee! I was born here in the states but my visits to the Philippines always includes Jollibee! It's just so nostalgic. The last time I went to visit my family was in 2005. Moving on to the food. So this location is the very first in Texas and every Filipino across the state has traveled to this place. They have been opened for over 2 weeks and it's still so busy. I got out of work early and my husband suggested we try a late night run. It was a Friday night and we got there around 9PM, they close at 10PM. There was still a line but it wasn't as overwhelming. The first time we went it was the second day and it was about lunch time. Forget. The line was outrageous, parking lot was tiny so we couldn't get a spot and it was soooo hot. From our wait to the counter, waiting for our food it was bout 30 minutes. There's something about being there that just transformed me to being in the Philippines. Filipino hospitality at it's best. While we were waiting in the queue they were passing out menus that you could look over. We made our decisions and we just waited patiently in line. As we approached the inside they started asking people who was taking food to go and who was dining there and how many. It seems that they the staff were in constant communication with head sets trying to make room for people that were dining inside. They would clear tables and but "reserve" signs on tables. We were taking ours to go. A little risky since it's about a 20 minute drive and the fear of our food getting cold but we didn't want to stay there. My husband and I decided to order a couple of different things. Probably way too much but I wanted a taste of it all. It could have been worse because I refrained from order more but there's always a next time right. Here's the run down of our order: Spaghetti with Chicken Joy with drink (combo meal) Fiesta Noodles with Chicken Joy with drink (combo meal) Aloha Burger by itself Halo Halo We took our food to go. I started on the Halo Halo in the car. On the top it had a small scoop of Mango and Ube (purple yam) Ice Cream and a small piece of Leche Flan. It had all the candied beans and jellies but it wasn't enough. I wanted more. Still good but left me wanted more. When we got home we unpacked our yummy treasures. Food still made it warm and tasted great. Spaghetti and fried chicken is my husband's 2 favorite foods. The spaghetti isn't your traditional it's different but so good. Sweetness with some meat and hot dogs. Oh those Filipinos. My Fiesta Noodle aka Palabok was pretty awesome for a fast food joint. Sauce was good, enough meat with some shrimps, crushed chicharones and sliced egg. The Aloha burger was good but it was cold when we got home. For furture we know the burgers don't travel so well. The bun is not your typical bun it was light and fluffy. There was bacon, pineapple and a creamy cheese. The meat had a nice smoky, char-grilled taste to it. Pretty tasty cold but I'm sure it's awesome when it's fresh. I knew that it was going to be hectic when this place opened so I was very patient. I can't wait to go back and get some pies and try the Coconut Pandan. I hope that it calms down a little bit and fingers crossed I hope that more open up in Texas! read more

I totally understand why most people, specifically non-Filipino people won't understand how much other people rave about Jollibee. First off, Jollibee is basically a little taste of home in the Philippines. Before I even knew about Jollibee being built in Houston my family used to ask our relatives visiting the U.S. to buy a dozen of those cheeseburgers to bring back or get my parents to bring me some Jollibee burgers from a trip back from California or Las Vegas or something hahaha. I was really excited when I heard about the news that a Jollibee is gonna open up in Houston! So after a few months of waiting it was officially finished! It finished during the summer time I believe and there were looooooooooong ass line during the first 2 weeks so waiting in line was hell, literally. Wait time was about 30 mins, not bad, people eat and go. But omg delivering the food took FOREVER, almost about an hour, but I didn't really trip because the place just opened (I work at a restaurant so I know how the workers feel) and we ordered a lot of food. Anyways we got our food: palabok, aloha burger w/ fries, a bucket of fried chicken, spaghetti and some chicken tenders (dip n' strip). Palabok was okay I prefer my grandma's LOL everything else was great, fried chicken here is better than the fried chicken at any fried chicken food chain to be honest. Fried chicken heaven. I visited Jollibee on a Sunday via the drive through. There was not a line, in fact I was the only car. I kept it simple and ordered the 2 piece chicken dinner with rice and corn. It came with gravy on the side that I did not request, but was happy to get nonetheless.( I guess the gravy is standard here) The chicken was very good, nice crunchy crust, moist inside and a good flavor. I added the gravy to the rice. I wasn't a big fan of the gravy and it lacked flavor. I think the rice may have even been better without it. The corn was very good and I could taste the butter. wish I could have tried a few more items from the menu. Overall experience was good, but while the food was good, it was only average. My wife and I made our first trip to Jollibee tonight for supper. We both had original recipe chicken. I'll have to say that was the best tasting and freshest fried chicken we've had outside of my own kitchen! Very juicy and nicely seasoned. Their mashed potatoes and gravy are quite good and their waffle cut sweet potato fries were nice and crisp on the outside and soft in the middle as they should be. First time here, absolutely had no idea there's a Houston location so obviously I'm missing out. I had their Chicken sandwhich meal along with their pineapple drink. Not bad at first but their hot, fresh chicken burned my tongue. My fault though. I didnt expect it to be super hot, especially fresh out the kitchen. Was in the area again and had to try it again...this time went all out!! Food was good like usual, but a few things to note. I love Loco moco which is a native Hawaii dish and I notice a similar option from jolli..only thing disappointed was the egg...either precooked or microwaved...needs that runny yolk of blissness to make that perfect. We had 3 dishes here at Jollibees. I must say, they were all amazing and I couldn't pick a favorite. Spaghetti..savory. Burger steaks... superb. Palabok... out of this world. The pineapple quencher complemented each bite well. Did we get dessert? Of course we did. The peach mango pie was like nothing I've ever had before. Warm,crunchy, and sweet. Meh. I, like many others got caught up in all the hype surrounding this place. I decided to stop by when they finally opened up the drive -thru (speaking of which, I love how the drive-thru is set up). Anyway, before ordering, I asked for sugesstions. The lady taking my order was really nice and patient and gave me serveral suggestions. I decided to go with the pineapple burger with fries and a piece of fried chicken. First of all, I'm the type of person that can hardly contain myself when fries are within a foot of me. So of course, as I pulled off, I dug my hand in the bag only to discover cold french fries. I was immediately disappointed. The fries were cold & "meh". The burger was "meh". The chicken was "meh". I ended up giving the chicken to my dog, she seemed to think it was very tasty. Needless to say, I am not impressed, but I may give it another go in the future. read more
