Went today and as usual, numerous Ace employees were an available to help. One immediately located my trimmers and started carrying them for me to the front. Figured he was making sure I paid (which I had offered where he found them). Main cashier line was long so he took to another part of the store to an open cashier. Then he carried them and put them in the car. That's Ace and that's why we go there.

Having very limited time I had to go and select what was necessary so the project could continue and not held up any longer. Stressed well, that's an understatement however I first had the privilege of working with Randy who invoked Todd's opinion and ended with Erica @ check out. They truly made this stressful situation a Joy and I even left with a smile on my face because of them. Randy was extremely patient, I asked him if he was busy and if he could help. He spent the next 20 minutes walking up and down the aisles repetitively (at least four times) before I could finally decide on the tile. As we were looking for the shower flooring to match the fantastic tile- the only thing I knew - I wanted pebbles. This is where Todd came to help, the two of them tag team and got various samples. (I got one which got voted out very quickly for the right reason). Todd had an eye for this as does Randy and that truly made a difference because from what I said earlier, being extremely stressful now suddenly became exciting because of the tile and pebble flooring that Randy and Todd helped select. Upon leaving, I had the privilege of working with Erica who is so kind and patient as I asked many questions about how the contractor will come get everything the following morning. She maintained a smile and when I told her how great Randy and Todd were she handed me a card so I could do a yelp review. Little does she know I've been an elite yelper for Eight years Overall, I'm very happy with what I got, the prices were very reasonable and I got a good value for my money. I was actually surprised at how inexpensive the pebble flooring and tile were as I really thought it was gonna cost a lot more. I purchased a 1/2 gallon pump sprayer on 2/9/2025. I filled it with water pumped it up and I discovered that it was leaking air. I removed the top and noticed that the gasket between the tank and pump was missing. I immediately took it back to the store and asked to exchange it for another one. I was told that because I opened the package, I would have to do the return online. I can understand that there needs to be some kind of limited return policy for items like this. After all, what is there to stop someone from buying a $600 airless paint sprayer, using it, and then returning it the next day, but they need to give the store manager the ability to make a judgment call. I was looking to exchange, not get a refund, for a $3.75 pump sprayer that had been purchased less than an hour earlier. I should have not been sent packing and told that I have to do a warranty claim online where I may or may not get a refund.

I also 'needed' a new canoe with all the extras along with new fishing supplies including bait and new lures. Yes, I know I have two big tackle boxes of lures and other things but, one can't avoid stocking up some more. Hagen has become a short bicycle ride from me and I like a local company versus that other big box store where the bins of bolts and screws are always topsy-turvy mixed up. They actually help you find the right bolt washer and nut you need and advise solutions to problems. Need to repot a lemon tree, they can recommend the right potting mix and pot. Want tips on what bait to use for fishing right there at the bridge nearby, they can help with rigging and bait. Want to find a good range for target shooting, these are guys with knowledge and patience. The ladies at the registers are cheerful, no pointing you to an unmanned register where they watch you like you might be stealing. Following the nose to the smell of popcorn brings a good reward too!

After unsuccessfully searching on my own for my target purchase, I asked the Customer Service Desk to check inventory for the saw I was trying to buy. The girl said "yep" we have 6 and they are back where I had just spent 20 minutes looking. I shared that I wanted to buy the saw in question so it was interesting she did not offer to have someone go and simply bring it to checkout for me. We were after all talking about a $400. plus tax purchase. I guess she expected the 70 year old man standing there holding his American Express Card to climb up the racks, dig through the HD inventory, find the saw, climb down and then drag myself through self checkout. All for the privilege of making a $400. purchase and not inconveniencing any of the HD employees standing around chatting at 8:00 AM on a Saturday. I decided that being an unpaid employee of Home Depot was not a good job for me so I passed. The morning was now heading toward noon and remembering that American Sharpening was open on Saturday, I decided to give them a visit. American Sharpening sells chainsaw parts (unlike HomeDepot) so I thought I might just try and repair the unit myself. The lady behind the counter had the part I thought I needed but still took the time to ask me what the problem was with my saw. After explaining my issue she said my problem would not be solved by the part I asked for and suggested I bring the saw in. (Interesting note: Saturday AM. Cheerful idiot comes into your store and asks to buy a part that you sell but you still take the time to be sure it will solve his problem. Please do not expect that to ever happen at a "Big Box" store) Given new life on repairing my equipment, I drove home quickly and after gathering up my saw returned to American Sharpening. A gentleman greeted me and, since the lady had taken the time to share our conversation, he immediately started checking the saw for some basic issues. It turns out the saw's lack of performance was due completely to operator error which the gentleman quickly rectified. In addition to a repair he also added a much needed tutorial on how to prevent this from happening again and some always good reminders on safety and the potential dangers of chainsaws. My wife would have loved this guy. If knowledge is power this gentleman might be the superman of chainsaws. As if having a repaired saw and new found knowledge on it's operation was not enough I had to almost force him to take any payment for his assistance. American sharpening has some unusual hours but the gentleman repairing the equipment has forgotten more than most folks will ever know about small engine repairs. Friendly, in a good country sort of way, and knowledgable about their products would best describe American Sharpening. Please give these folks a try, and I believe you will be glad you did. If nothing else a visit to American Sharpening will keep you from climbing on the "self service" racks at Home Depot and that is certainly a good thing.
