We visited the tasting room (only) while visiting the area from out of town. They allow dogs which was nice and offered a water bowl. The tasting room itself has bar seating and lots of space. It has a dark, rich vibe. You are able view wine making equipment and pleasant displays of spirits and other items for purchase. The server was very knowledgeable about the wines and the area, as well as friendly and efficient. The prices were reasonable and we really were able to try lots of different wines. The wine itself was okay. We would consider returning to enjoy their outdoor space on another visit. The only frustrating thing about our visit was that at the very end when we went to pay, we found out that we could not tip using a credit card. This was unexpected. read more

We've been here several times for tastings and special events, and during our most recent visit we had 5 tastings for $5, which also came with a small package of snacks! Their variety of wines is impressive, with a mix of European and American varieties of wines. We came here on a girls weekend checking out wineries. There are 2 areas the tasting room and an outdoor tented area where you can relax with a bottle or glass of wine. We chose the tasting room. There are 2 bar areas to accommodate people tasting. That's when we met Jackson. He is one of the workers in the tasting room pouring wine. He is a lot of fun, very friendly and helpful. We are a bunch of middle aged ladies and just loved him. We recommend Jackson. Now to the wine. There are a few of us that like sweet and a few of us that like dry. The wines did not disappoint. Not every wine was great but the majority of what we tried we liked. It's $5 a tasting for 5. I am in the sweet camp. And I liked 4 out of the 5 sweeter wines. The Niagara was good and the 2 ice wines were outstanding. Prices are pretty good. And we bought a bottle or 2. They also have some distilled liquor. Gin, vodka, whiskey, and bourbon. They are not their own but they showcase them. Those are $10 for 3 tastings. We tried the 2 crème whiskeys. 1 was a crème brûlée and 1 was a cinnamon, nutmeg, crème whiskey. The crème brûlée was the star. It was delicious and we bought a bottle. We never went to the tented area. So I am not sure about that. But this was fun. Definite stop. read more

So this by far is one of our favorite wineries to hit on the Lake Erie trail. The staff here especially Matthew are very friendly and knowledgeable of the wines. They will even tell you about some ghost stories if you are interested. They have a unique mix of European wines and some local ones as well. I am super late on this review!! Johnson Estate Winery please forgive me !! In May of this year I randomly won a May Day wine and food pairing at the Johnson Estate Winery!! What an amazing experience!! This beautiful Winery is a hour right outside of Buffalo,NY. It was such a beautiful drive in. The winery itself has this beautiful rustic vibe. Unfortunately, we missed the array of cheeses and appetizers but we just in time for the pairing. The food was amazing, I even loved the tart which had mushrooms in it, I normally don't even like mushrooms. Each wine paired perfectly with this 4 course meal. The owner had such a fun personality as well the curator!! We laugh the entire time. And the reason for this gathering was the May Wine !!! A wine that is only harvested around this time in Germany for May Day. So delightful and light ....but the alcohol content was a lil on the higher side so we had to be careful,lol. This was such a event, they truly made everyone feel like we were a part of their family. Three of us stopped in this month, on a Sunday, for their "Sip and Savor" event. A lovely way to spend some time, enjoyed both the food and the wine. Truly, each wine sample (there were four) is only a ip or two. Had the wine been a bit more generous, I would have given them 5 stars. Quiche was being offered that day; choice of veggie or bacon lovers. Bacon Lover's: Mushroom Crostini with Bacon, Ham & Bacon Quiche, Green Salad with Bacon Dressing, & Chocolate Baba Tartlette. Veggie Fresh: Mushroom Crostini, Spinach Quiche, Green Salad with Bleu Cheese Dressing, & Caramel Baba Tartlette. Although they were pairing white wine with the veggie option, substituting the red was not an issue. They were very accommodating, and allowed us to sit and chat for a few hours. Me and the hubby (& the pup) had a long weekend planned near Cook's Forest. We decided to go a little out of the way to go to Johnson Estate Winery. Wow! I am so happy we did. We sat at a picnic table outside at Flight. I got the dry white flight (oaked chardonnay, steel chardonnay, and syval blanc) and then a glass of sevyl blanc. The hubby got a glass of the concord and we got a charcuterie board. Our waitress was amazing!!! She was good to us and great to our pup. I didn't catch her name but...wow! She was terrific. The wine is fantastic. The charcuterie board was just enough to hold us over to dinner. And the atmosphere, we had the most amazing fall day. My boyfriend and I were visiting the Westfield area from NYC and decided to stop at the winery for some outdoor wine flights and charcuterie boards for lunch. We had SUCH a wonderful time! The wine flights were awesome but the charcuterie board was especially awesome and for such great value. Stopped in on the way to visiting family from the Midwest. Amazing wines at reasonable prices. The tasting fee of 5 samples for $5 was well worth it. They present you with a generous sample in real glassware suited for the wines you're tasing not a plastic shot cup. We got a good deal more than our five which most likely facilitated a sizable sale. Went in for a bottle or two came out with 12. Our "server was wonderful. I'm sorry I don't recall her name. Dog friendly as long as your pup is well mannered. They provided our dog with a bowl of fresh water. Will definitely be back and recommended them to relatives in the area. My sister and I attended the Harvest weekend in November and Johnson Estate was one of our stops. It was no doubt my favorite!! I love the rustic interior and setup especially the front porch area. The winery was more organized than most. We were told where to go when we arrived. The pairing of the founders red and jambalaya was superb. We had a tough time finding a spot to sample more wine after we got our pairing, so we went back the original spot to ask for guidance (that area was empty) and before we could say anything the woman came over frustrated with us being there and told us we need to clear this area and go somewhere else. Wow, surprised by the unwelcoming comment, I proceeded to tell her that were having difficultly finding an area at the bars to sample. It was crowded at the two sampling bars. She abruptly left and found a spot and waved us over. Maybe she was just overwhelmed and tired. We ended up being treated very well by a woman who was helping us sample wine at the front right-side bar (parking lot). She was lovely and so sweet, and I wish I would have gotten her name to give her a shout out (brown wavy hair). It was a great sampling experience for me and my sister both. I am a red wine drinker.. not white. I have not had any white that I favor over red. This winery had so many delicious blends. I found my white wine, Sayval Blanc. I had to purchase along with the founders red. We will be visiting John Estate again soon. read more

This is one of my favorite stops along the Erie wine trail! We have been here on several occasions over the past three years and several of their staff members have been there over that length of time as well. The woman who served us our pairing is always fun and jokes around with us. The womam who tended to us at the tasting bar knew everything about each of the wines and what they pair best with. She was so informative and also asked for feedback regarding the event, valuing it. This winery has a nice variety of alcoholic beverages. They have typical dry to sweet wines, two spiced wines, a cream sherry (that I love), and a few liqueurs, one being a maple flavor that we tend to purchase almost every time we come here. They have a water station set up that also has hot tea or hot chocolate options as well. The round tables are all tall, standing room only. They display their wine making vats for all to see how the process occurs in their facility. Bottom line - check this winery out if you are in NY. You will find something you like and if not, you will enjoy the company of the staff! read more

Only thing we wish that we would have been able to do was regarding a tip- we were unable to tip on our bill because we used a credit card. We came in on a drizzly Sunday specifically tempted by the offering of charcuterie boards with a wine flight. The wines were acceptable (although only 3 to a flight for $10) but were underwhelmed by the charcuterie and the service. The board options were limited for a whopping $25 and the shrimp- an unusual and welcome addition- were not deveined (yuck). The service was lackluster we may come again but questionable whether it's worth the drive from Buffalo. read more

This winery is the BEST in NY, PA and all around... I have reviewed this wine a couple of years ago. We were in the area and decided to do the tastings to see if anything new is out, and if we still like the others that we purchased before. This place is Heaven to me when it comes to the wineries. My wife and I love this place so much. Everything we tried was awesome!!! The wine tasting is $2 for 6 tastings. We purchased a case of the wines that we liked, along with 2 - 3 Liters of wine. The prices are so great for example the 3 liters is $15.49 which is crazy on how much wine you get for the price. Since we purchased a case of wine we received a voucher that allows us to get up to 6 tastings for free every time we travel to the winery up to 1 year. Is that great or what. That's a motivator to come more often. Too bad it's 3 1/2 hours from our South Hills of Pittsburgh home. If you're in the area please give this place a chance. All of the wines are very good.
