My first time trying John's Seafood. Upon entering I was greeted by friendly employees. The restaurant is clean and an open space to see cooking area and staff as they prepare your meal. Young man at the counter answered my many questions I had about different seafood options. I chose the 20 jumbo shrimp for $20 and added broccoli, corn and a potato with old bay and garlic butter. Seasoned and cooked perfectly. Broccoli was tender but still had a crunch, corn was sweet, potato tender and delicious, I enjoyed the taste and portion size. This place is sooo good. Free parking, sit down eating (limited tables) and friendly staff. The crab cakes in the tins are fav though I didn't order it this time around, but the fried flounder sandwich with cocktail sauce slaps. Hush puppies were delicious and you can dip them in honey. I wasn't personally a fan of the calamari but my mom enjoyed it. We always get our seafood from here and will continue to do so. read more

This is my son's favorite place for seafoods since we moved here West Deptford in 2023. They love the crabmeat Mac N Cheese and clam chowder, so good! For me, particularly, the service is excellent ! I always orders take out boiled blue crabs and the seasonings to bring home enjoy with a couple beers! The owner will inform what seafoods are in season and fresh so you learn some cooking tips too ! We ordered the food here cause it was highly recommended...it was a HUGE disappointment..What was described as a platter was more like a meal from the kid section..small and not much flavor/seasonings...it was a one small scoop of this and that and 3 hard shrimps and rubbery scallops that had a weird taste and smell. Also the presentation of the meal in its container was poor and not pleasing to the eye (see photo)...at $20 it was a great disappointment. Meh. This place looked good and the other reviews seemed great. I got a snow crab and shrimp platter and a side of hog shrimp. The crab, shrimp, corn and potatoes were over cooked. Two stars for the platter. The hog shrimp was money. It was pretty good. Four stars for the hog shrimp. I was told 25 minutes for to go. It was more like 45 minutes. You gotta get a steamed platter. I was visiting the area and ended up coming here twice because it was so good. I got a steamed platter both times: snow crab and shrimp combo the first time and just the snow crab the second time. Both were really good, but I preferred without shrimp. The butter that comes on these platters is amazing. It's not just butter. They add some spices in there that makes it so special. The outside is quite unassuming and you probably wouldn't think much of it. But I think the locals know this is where it's at because it was very busy here both times I visited. read more

A busy place it can be here so at times they may offer you the food to take home and cook. But if you end up ordering out your in luck to taste some decent food. The stuffed salmon and Mac and cheese is my favorite. I wish it was seasoned a bit more but the food is worth stopping by to try. And every time I look at the photos of that Mac and cheese it brings my taste buds back to heaven. Look forward to stopping by next time. read more

John's Seafood is much like the town of Paulsboro where it is located - a little rough around the edges, but full of hardworking people that have hearts of gold. In Johns case, the heart of gold is a delicious variety of seafood - both cooked and raw. Although I have primarily ordered party trays from Johns, they also have a full menu of cooked platters and sandwiches along with a half dozen tables so you can eat your seafood right there if you desire. All that is well and good, but the thing that will keep you coming back to John's over and over again are the Blue Claw Crabs. And not just the crabs, but for just a few dollars more you can have John's cook and clean the crabs for you so you don't have to mess with the "mustard" that turns many off to the summer magic that is eating crabs and drinking beer on a picnic table covered in newspaper. Check John's out for your seafood needs, but make sure to call ahead to avoid the lines for platters and for your party trays - they often sell out on major holidays. read more

Many people have spoken to me about this little diamond in the rough for a while, I decided to try it approximately two weeks ago. I ordered a blue claw platter they had with vegetables corn on the cob. I am a true seafood lover and I am so impressed with this place it was properly seasoned cooked and presented, due to Covid all meals are to go but that didn't matter because I fully enjoyed the meal as I was waiting for my food I looked at other items thy have for sale the fresh seafood and prepared dishes next time I will try the crabcakes. Prices are reasonable and they practice social distancing. just an update this week I ordered the spaghetti with muscles in red sauce the quantity was great price was awesome but more importantly the taste was over-the-top good job read more

We ordered for pick up as we live 30 mins away. I had the two crab cakes combo with Mac n cheese. The crab cakes were delicious and the Mac n cheese was creamy as well as tasty. I also enjoyed the side of coleslaw. Overall the food and price are worth the drive. read more

Great seafood. I'm here working construction and now have a place for fresh seafood. I lived on the Gulf Coast most of my 66 years and know when seafood is right. Hog shrimp is INCREDIBLE. The best I've ever had by far.

Before I even get my food it's one star because my order was heard wrong and served wrong. I then had to go back and forth with the man who took my order telling him I said a dozen of sautéed crabs and another dozen of regular body crabs. I'm not from Jersey so he took it upon himself to say "Well I thought you wanted them cooked, cleaned, and have the shell removed." That service is an additional $5. I like regular shelled crabs. I had to wait an additional 20 mins after already waiting an hr for my food to be done. I honestly am not even interested in eating the crabs. Currently waiting for half of my order to be corrected while the other half gets cold. First impression for ordering is never again. read more

So this was a new place we tried because my kid's school had a thing. We ordered one of the family specials and a quart of crab bisque. My only criticism is that the soup was way too sweet. That may just be a personal preference. There was a ton of meat in there. The fried stuff was surprisingly good. I'll be honest, I don't normally like fried seafood. It's usually all fishy and tough. Have gone to John's a few times for the family meals. Family means come with a variety of fish, shrimp, scallops and sides either fried or broiled. Its a great value, a long time Paulsboro staple and family owned business. Great price and value, food is good. No complaints! Only criticism i'd have is that the family meals are either fried or broiled, I wish you could do both. read more
