Visiting the area and stopped by for lunch. Honestly John and some other customers made my wife and I feel as if we grew up and lived around the corner. Great pizza and salad. We grew up in the Hudson Valley during the 60's and 70's. I enlisted in the Navy in 82 and was stationed in California. Have lived out there ever since. Really was a great meal and brought back great memories. Stop by and say hi to John! read more

Our usual favorite pizza place was closed in New Year's Day so we decided to try John's Pizza despite the not so good reviews. The lady who answered the phone was so nice and pleasant. Pizza was ready 20 minutes after calling it in and OMG the box was so heavy, it felt like there were 3 pizzas in 1 box, and to our surprise, the large special pizza was loaded with toppings, it was incredibly crazy! See photos. The crust was thick and not our preferred thin crust but it might have been because of the heavy toppings. Nevertheless, the pizza was good! The tomato sauce was delicious and even if we had to use fork and knife, we enjoyed it. It's cash only and the pizza was the cheapest you can ever get in this town. $22 with tax! read more

The hardest working pizza maker in the business. Owen's salads are to die for. Been going there for 25+ years. John is a great member of the community read more

No one makes a better calzone. No one. Sicilian pie and white pie also amazing. Very generous and good prices.

My car was in the shop so I ordered online from John's since it was open on Monday. I was craving pizza and when it arrived I opened the box and saw that it didn't fit into the box, two slices were smashed up against the box with the toppings spilling out into the box. That might have been the best part of this pizza because it tasted horrible. It was flavorless, the crust was extremely dense and thick, so thick, in fact, that I had to use a knife and fork to cut through the tasteless crust. I was the only one eating this and after having two slices I took the rest of it and threw it out, it just wasn't worth eating. I consider myself to be one of those people who believe that even bad pizza is good, but there was no redeeming quality in this pizza, it was bad with probably one of the worst crusts I've ever tasted. read more

Love, love, love John's Pizza and food. Relatives from out of town made it a custom to order from John's at least once per trip. They're's very accommodating when ordering take-out or food for any occasion, and the dishes are always excellent! read more

Good pizza and great owner. We got a fresh large pie w peppers. It was solid pizza with good conversation while I waited!

Really casual place, the Pizza was great. The owner was very friendly, and made us feel right at home. We will definitely be back.

The place is small with apex 35 folks. The pizza slices are bigger than other establishments but it's not NY style pizza. It has a thicker crust. The toppings are abundant. The owner always has some humor and quick jokes. read more

I'm a New Haven girl so I'm always skeptical getting pizza outside my town. My husband brought a slice home from work once and I've been obsessed! If you're in the Danbury area and love pizza like me please try John's! Huge slices, nice stretchy cheese & a heavy hand with the toppings!!! read more

IMO by far the best pizza in the area. For being only ~1 hour north of NYC you'd think there would be an abundance of good pizza in the area but it's not so. (most have thick doughy "crust", use tasteless sauce and canned toppings). John's is true NY style--thin crust, great sauce, fresh ingredients. It puts the vast majority of local pizza joints to shame. Plus, friendly service. Bravo John's Pizza. Only draw back--those small napkins! Ugh LOL read more

Our family has been going to John's (and Owen's) for years. The portions are large, the food is well seasoned and tasty, everyone is friendly almost like a family meal each time you go in there. Beer and wine is cheap compared to other restaurants. John's is not pretentious, just great Italian food. The Lasagna is great, when ordering chicken you seem to get a whole bird, sausage , peppers and onions over pasta can last for a few days. Really busy inside between 6 - 8, be ready to wait but you will not be disappointed (he may even give you a few slices of his delicious white pie while you wait)! read more

Lost my appetite after the first two bites of my shrimp scampi entree. If you want pizza, go here. If you're looking for a good Italian entree, their food is trash. Manicotti is nothing but disgusting sauce that is probably from a can or a jar. Cheap ingredients. Arrogant owner. read more

One of my go-to pizza places anytime I'm in town. The owner, John, is extremely friendly and always hook it up for his regulars. In particular, I'm a huge fan of the BBQ chicken pizza and the baked ziti pizza. The portions will not let you down. read more

I was in the mood for a couple slices of pizza, so my buddy and I stopped by John's to do just that. I ended up ordering a slice of ziti pizza and BBQ chicken pizza, which both looked awesome. My buddy insisted we get a chef's salad to split since it's so massive and could be considered a meal for two, or even three people. I went with it. Two slices and a chef's salad for $20 was a little steep. Maybe I'm just used to paying a couple bucks here and there for slices and less than $10 for a salad, but I was a little shocked it came out to that much. Not to mention, they only accepted cash, which I was unaware of. Good thing there was an ATM nearby. We got back to my buddy's place and started chowing down. The ziti pizza was perfect, aside from how lackluster the crust was. Both slices were a bit on the heavy side as well, especially if you saw how much topping was placed on top. It was a bit overkill for me, especially on the BBQ chicken. The chicken was a bit dry and eating the whole slice was sort of hard to stomach since it weighed so much. The salad we shared was literally all deli meat and no lettuce. I guess you could consider it a "Man's Salad" because of how many veggies there wasn't. This would've been alright if I didn't just house about 5 pounds of pizza from two slices, but I could barely eat any of it due to how full I was. John's isn't bad, and the staff there was generally nice to us, but I think they sit on the fact of quantity over quality. I might stop by again, maybe for a salad, but there are plenty of better pizza options in the Danbury area. read more

This was the worst pizza ever. The grease was seeping threw the box The cheese was sooo Chewy which means it was frozen and not fresh Under cooked read more

What more to say - great pizza and even better owners! Owen and John are great friends to our family. I have many fond memories coming here as a kid and helping to make my own pie. Big fan of the meat lovers, and can't go without trying Owen's famous salad! read more

Ordered from vroom service a meatball sub and calzone. The calzone was huge definitely enough to share or have 2 meals out of and delicious, also best meatball sub ever! Meatballs had so much flavor, this is definitely authentic Italian food. Most places don't put enough garlic both had just enough. I will be back thank you for a great dinner and lunch for tomorrow, also not overpriced I paid $20 for 2 meals and again have leftovers for tomorrow. read more

Great pizza and a great atmosphere to eat in. John cooks and serves the pizza himself.

About a year and a half ago came here for a large cheese pizza and a large pizza with bacon and peppers. Called it in and they said "ok it'll be about 20 minutes". Usual wait for pizza. Got there 25 minutes later. And they said "I'm sorry we are behind tonight itll be a few more minutes" I said "sure no problem". I waited for AT LEAST a half hour for my pizzas! As soon as I was about to walk back to the counter to ask them if it was going to be ready anytime soon, they were ready. So I took them home. The pizza with bacon and peppers, instead of bacon they put ham on them. Apparently they ran out of bacon and didn't even bother to call me back and let me know. My father doesn't like ham. And he was disappointed. From now on I'm checking the pizzas before I leave. The pizzas were very sloppy and looked like a 2 year old made them. My father called them to complain and they said "oh come on it's still pork". The owner or whoever the hell was there was rude to him on the phone. Yeah sure it's still pork, but WE DID NOT ASK FOR HAM. This place is a joke! I will never give them my business again! Go to sals across the street. At least they treat their paying customers with respect! read more

While the pizza here is not stellar beyond belief pizza, it is a great pie! You watch while John makes it from scratch right in front of you, pops it in the oven and starts working on the next one. He's a stand up guy. First time I went in I didn't realize he didn't take cards and only had $15 in cash. I had ordered a large to taste test and I knew it was going to be slightly more... he simply said "that's just enough, you can get my next time" and I got him next time. You don't find that kind of generosity in places anymore. The pizza is crispy (sometimes a little soggy in the center because of the generous amount of toppings) and always fresh. Their bbq chicken and buffalo chicken pizza is yummy! I haven't had the white pizza but I'll have to go and try a slice soon! The portions of all the other entrees he has are quite large as I've seen them go by. John also seems to have something in common with every person that comes in. This place really reminds me of a family joint that is lacking these days from the olden days. In certain places (like Greenpoint, NY) where community is still community and everyone knows each other, people had a trust with each other and a family feel to every store... you get that when you walk into John's. My only qualm... I'm a purist and need to have a pizza fit in the box! If it doesn't fit and gets smushed, I get weird about it. Personal issue. His larges are really large and don't fit in the large boxes. Otherwise, I love this place and will continue going back! read more

John makes the BEST pizza. Owen makes the BEST food. Price is always right. Been going there since they opened, about 20 years ago. 5 * yum!

You have to be looking for a good hearty meal to go to John's. The portions are insane and your dollar definitely goes a long way. John himself is always there with a smile on his face making the entire menu. The pizza is good, quite a bit thicker than NY Style, delicious! John will also make you absolutely anything, so feel free to get creative. One of my favorite things on their menu is the Chicken Parm.. it is massive but super delicious. My husband and I always share it and manage to take home leftovers. It is perfectly crunchy and everything is fresh and made to order. It's definitely a local spot and John has his regulars there all the time. Just remember, it's not a huge place and they take cash only.. but all in all.. Great place! read more

Pizza was okay, nothing to brag about. The one thing is they only take cash. Now not for nothing but they should have a sign up or when you call at least let you know it's cash only so you can stop at an ATM. Another thing Is when I walked in no one acknowledged me, looked right past me to the 'regulars' which was so rude because you think seeing a new face you would be extra nice to them but I guess not. Totally not impressed and won't be back. read more

Been eating John's pizza since his days on Mamaroneck Avenue at Nicky's. When we heard John opened his own place in Danbury, we would drive 45 minutes just to go have his pizza. Been going ever since - 20 years! Owen's food is delicious with HUGE portions. Definitely enough to share and/or take plenty of leftovers home. Both John and Owen are extremely generous and take excellent care of their customers. Many many repeat patrons to the point where if you go often enough you will see all the familiar faces. Can't say enough good things about John's Pizza. Absolutely a family favorite for both quality of food, portion size and family feel. read more

Been on a diet and made this my cheat day place. Worth every bite and every moment on the treadmill. Great salads of generous portions. House baked bread....YUM. great meatballs in a great sauce. Add this place to your list!! read more

Good if you're starving and everything else is closed. Mediocre food quality. Ordered a grinder and the sandwich was in 4 pieces. None of the food could stay in the bread. Felt like I was eating dog food. Poor seating. Loud mouths in the "restaurant " made in impossible to hear anything but their senseless noise. These were the obvious locals that have nothing better to do than loiter without buying anything. Owner/chef was real nice but you have to lower your dining expectations a lot, if you're not from the area. read more
