3.5 stars really. Why? It's a good hometown Italian restaurant, nothing spectacular, just good food at a good price. Service is friendly, but sometimes slow. Decor is dated and booth seating is really worn. A must have is the potato soup. Delicious. On my recent visit I got the Cod sandwich. It was very hot and very big. I had to cut it in half. It tasted good and I liked it. It came with homemade tartar sauce... which tasted like mayonnaise. And some bland potato salad. My husband got the spaghetti with one meatball. They use fettuccine noodles and he liked it, said the meatball was pretty good also. If you're in town and you're looking for good Italian this is the place to go to. But I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

I drive through Union, MO all the time and had never been to Johnnys Restaurant. On this day I had a group in my car with me and someone suggested Johnnys so there we went. I was a little bit skeptical about Italian food in Union, MO. Hey, it could have been really bad but it was actually quite nice and a pleasant surprise. We started with the Olive Oil & Garlic Plate. They brought out a huge dish filled with olive oil, herbs, and fresh chunks of garlic. It was delicious! I was trying not to fill up on bread but you know I have no willpower. Thankfully I ordered the lunch portion of the tortellini. The waitress suggested the white sauce so I went with that. This was the perfect portion. I didn't quite finish it but the sauce was creamy and garlicky and great. My lunch dates ordered the Famous Cheesesteak Sandwich and a Lunch portion of spaghetti with marinara sauce and vegetables. We were all happy! I wouldn't hesitate to return! Good find!

Some of the best prime rib in the area.

Ravioli and potato soup/salad were good. Chicken for the Alfredo was like it was supposed to be fried. But it was soggy and tasted old

Excellent Antipasta salad, very good Alfredo and Marinara sauces, and Coke products. Could use some EVOO on the table.

They have an indoor space & outdoor seating, so you can come anytime of the year or weather! I couldn't help but notice how dog friendly this place is. Good to know for next time so I can bring my dog! We just had a drink an appetizer. You go up to the bar to order, and they give you a buzzer. No server fyi. The crab dip was good! By the time it was almost finished it started feeling like too much due to the richness, but it was good. Whoever made our drinks did awesome. I added soda to mine to make a spritzer. I'll be back, whether on a nice night or cool evening.

The staff were so friendly and the dogs are just the sweetest. However, I can't give this place more than 3 stars because the food was just not good. I had the fish and chips special and there was no flavor to it at all. My husband had a bacon ranch panini with the egg salad and couldn't get through it. We got a pizza for our daughter which she ate, but it truly just tasted like shredded cheddar melted on a big flatbread. If this place was able to upgrade their food then it would be truly amazing!!! We'd be happy to come back and have drinks but we won't get food again.

The ravioli (a regional specialty) was crispy and came with a red sauce. I asked for my steak to be medium (and specifically said pink throughout). The "sautéed mushrooms" were from a can. There were almost no peppers. When I pointed out the overdone steak to the waitress, she said they get different cooks on the back and she said she would discount the bill (by $2) but did not offer to bring out a medium cooked steak. This was a while back. Hopefully the food quality has improved because the view is truly wonderful.
